Day 153: Moonday the 18th, Calistril, 4708
I woke up and realized that I had made a promise over a week ago, and I needed to fulfill it. I also realized that I needed to work on Faunra's project. Even more than that, I had something vital that I needed to do. I telepathically summoned Niddler, who responded that he would be right to me. I carefully extricated enough of myself from underneath Savah to enable me to perform the required movements that are needed to generate the Unseen Craftsmen spell.
Niddler slowly came in, mentally asking me if it was okay to do so first. I gave him the all-clear and he flew in, to alight on the table by my side of the bed. He thought to me that he was glad that I was back, and that he had a lot to share with me about the goings on of Scratchpoint. I thought to him, asking what Scratchpoint was, because I had not heard that before. Niddler responded back to me that he had been making a replica of the town in "chicken size" and since the chickens liked scratch, he had changed it from Sandpoint to that name.
I smiled and told him that I would be more than happy to listen to him about all of this, but that I needed him to do somethings for me, if he was able. Niddler asked what would be in it for him, and I told him that I would assign a group of unseen crafters to work on his Scratchpoint. It would get it made much quicker. Niddler tried to bargain, saying that he needed at least five groups set up for him. We eventually agreed on three groups, and that I'd set them up at different times so that they can feed their work product into each other.
With our telepathic bargaining reached, Niddler asked what I needed to have him do. I told him that I needed to do three things, one for each of the groups of unseen craftsmen. I needed him to send a message over the radio to Faunra that the truck would be ready for enchantment tonight. Niddler agreed to that and asked what the other things were. I told him that I needed him to go to the Quads and let them know that the highest priority right now was the truck, and that they needed to pause everything to get the truck finished. Niddler said that he would pass on these messages and asked what the third thing was. I sent the thoughts to him that I needed him to take a message to Jonathan to see if he thought we could work together to get about improving the nutrition of our community.
Niddler agreed to all of it and asked if I could cast the first spell in about an hour. I told him that I would, as long as Savah is awake enough to be okay with me getting up. Niddler flew off to perform the tasks. I continued to relax in Savah's embrace and nestled back in to go to sleep. After a few minutes Savah asked me if I was going to get up or if she could lay like this all day.
I sighed and told her that I had made a promise to someone to show them the video of the attack on Sandpoint, and that I intended on following through with it. Savah smiled with her eyes closed and asked me who. I told her that it was Tato, from Rings and Things. Savah kept her eyes closed while she nodded. She told me that she had to visit with Hannah anyway, as Hannah had spent some time going over the books that I had given her and wanted to check some things out. I asked her when she was planning on heading out.
Savah opened one bleary eye and told me that she wouldn't be heading out before breakfast, and at least not until two hours from now. I told her that I didn't have to cast a spell for Niddler until a little under an hour for now. Savah smiled and said that meant that we could continue to rest. I agreed with her that this was a distinct possibility but slyly suggested that we could always do… something else. Savah's eyes snapped open after a second of thinking and she was fully awake. She agreed that that "something else" would be a MUCH better use of our time, with the biggest smile I had seen her make in a while.
We were up and out of bed just before Niddler got back after the hour. I even managed to summon up our clothing and armor onto us before he managed to make it back from telling the Quads, radioing Faunra's estate (getting one of her Waxhoms, apparently named "Faunrab"), and doing his morning chores. Savah smiled and went into the kitchen, commenting that we could really use getting one of the Unseen Servant variants set up as a set of chefs. I told her that I would bring that possibility up to Faunra later. I went to the balcony and flew towards Niddler's little chicken cavalcade, my overland fight spell still in effect.
Niddler caught up to me and gave me the low-down on what all he needed done. I started this first group up on gathering up the lumber that he would need. The next batch, which I would summon up about noonish, would be tasked with getting the landscape exactly right, along with its own Little "Chickendarok" River. True to name, we'd get an enchantment for the head of the "river" to just create the water that was needed. The basis of the design would truly be the town, just scaled down of course, to a one thirty-second scale.
With the Unseen Crafters summoned, and set to task, I bid Niddler a good day. The prophecy came back, unbidden, stuck in my head as I flew back to the house. "Unto the Ides, Scal will shed a single tear. That tear will send the Wave of Harbors to the Quay of Aenigmas." It wasn't the Ides, at least. In fact, the prophecy was delivered after the Ides, so it would possibly be next month at the earliest. Time enough to prepare for a lot of different things, as soon as we figure out where it is to happen.
I meandered my way back to the dining room upstairs, where Savah was already seated with a light breakfast. I sat down in one of the reinforced chairs, and Savah got up from where she was sitting, and sat on my lap, her arm draped around my armored shoulders. She took my helmet off and lovingly started feeding me bits of breakfast. I smiled and put my arms around her. I asked her if she wanted another set of armor like this.
Savah looked at her belly and noted that she would probably not be in an adventuring way much longer. I scoffed and told her that no matter what, she'd always be the most adventurous vixen I had ever met. Savah smiled and laughed a bit, while she continued to feed me. I told her that I appreciated her doing this, but that she didn't have to. Savah smiled and said that she kind of liked doing this from time to time, as long as I reciprocated.
I smiled and told Savah that I definitely would be willing to do so, especially with stuff like breakfast in bed. Savah told me that she really liked that, and I offered up that I would try to get something extra nice set up for the next few days. I changed the subject after another bit of breakfast was fed to me, and asked Savah how she was intending to get to Hannah's. Savah offered up to me that she would likely be walking. I sighed and cast my recovered overland flight spell on her.
Savah started to lift up of her own accord, and I told her that it should last close to two days. Savah smiled and noted that this opened up a lot of opportunities for us in other areas. I nodded, noting that I would definitely be thinking on that later. Savah smiled and drifted a bit around the room, before coming to land back down on my lap. I offered up that I really didn't need more food, but that I was going to be working on something specific with Jonathan, that might be of interest to her.
Savah asked me what it was, but I told her that while I was thinking of it specifically for her, if she was willing to attempt it, but that I didn't want to get more details to her before it could be built, because I didn't want to raise her hopes, in case I couldn't get it done. Savah told me that this all sounded very mysterious, with a wink. I told her that if it panned out, we'd have to make a lot of them, and a power plant to go with them, because my little solar panels and tiny steam generators just would not cut it anymore when we were all said and done. I added that if my discussion with Jonathan went well, I might have to cross verify with Hannah next, so I might end up catching up with her when I was done, if she is there a while. Savah offered up that she could just go with me for all of it. I told her that I was going to be checking in with Tato first, so all the first visit would be is waiting to have him have a chance to watch the video of the attack on Sandpoint.
Savah didn't seem to really want to just stand around while that worked its way through, but she told me that I should still call her after that, as we could always head out to talk to Jonathan together, and then hit Hannah. Savah offered up that she did want to have me there for the discussion with Hannah anyway. I relented and told her that I would call her when I was done checking in with Tato. I had no real intention of letting her sneakily figure out what I was trying to do. This was a BIG deal, and something that each of us could only do once. I wouldn't let it, or the surprise, go by.
I finished getting everything ready and got my helmet back on as the morning rose to the point that sane people were up. Getting used to having another four hours available to relax and recuperate is going to be an interesting thing, but I know that this is a gift almost better than any other that this world could give me. Time is the one thing that we can NEVER get back. I went to my balcony and checked to see what the morning looked like. It was slightly snowing, but not enough to actually cause a problem. I lifted off of the ground and started to fly towards Rings and Things.
As I crossed the Turandarok, some guards on the walls waved to me. I waved back to them and continued on to my destination. I flew over the Sandpoint Cathedral and saw some people getting ready for morning services. I waved to them too and they also waved back. It really feels like I am beginning to make myself welcome here.
I touched down at the entry to Rings and Things, and Tato was there. He waved to me as I landed and asked me how he could end up getting a suit of armor like this. I shrugged and said that some of what I could do was not based on the armor, like the more controlled flight. He looked at me inquisitively, and I told him that the armor was capable of directed long jumps, but that the flight that I had exhibited, was a personal ability. Tato shrugged and asked if I wanted to go get breakfast while I showed him the video.
I smiled and told him sure, especially since the shop was not supposed to open for an hour or so. He asked me for my recommendation, and I told him that I always liked the Barghest, since it made food that I was familiar with from where I had grown up and lived before coming here. I asked him if his pride would allow him to be carried while I fly there, and he looked a little bit offput, but accepted. I picked him up underneath his arms and activated my jump boots. We rocketed off through the sky at a "blistering" twelve miles an hour.
We landed just outside the door to the Barghest, right in front of a group coming out with the remains of their breakfast. We about scared the shit out of them as an angry barbarian and a seven-foot-tall mechanical monstrosity just touched down in front of them. The couple and kids almost scattered before I told them that everything was fine, that we just tanked the landing a bit. The couple calmed themselves down and their kids were a bit more fascinated. I told them that I wished them well and hoped that their breakfast had been a good one.
We entered into the Barghest, and Jonathan was right there. He welcomed us in and brought us to the booth that I am usually in. I willed the armor to allow me to exit and I stepped out of it. Tato asked if he could try it on, and I told him that aside from a few specific pieces of it, the armor was non-magical, and as such did not really resize. Tato sighed but accepted the explanation.
Jonathan took the initiative and told us that he would have the kitchen prepare a veritable feast for us this morning. Tato looked at me with a bit of concern, and Jonathan stopped him, saying that he could never think of charging the Emperor of Xin-Shalast, or his guests. I quickly shot back at him that I thought that he was the emperor, as he was wearing the emperor's robes. Jonathan smiled and looked down at his clothing. He noted that while he was indeed wearing the emperor's robes, but that the emperor was not in fact naked, as I was clearly dressed.
Tato tried to follow along, but Jonathan stopped him. I told him that we were going back and forth because we had slain the Runelord of Xin-Shalast, and due to the laws of succession, we were in line for the rulership. Jonathan cleared his throat, and corrected me, saying that I had been the one to kill the emperor, (and he put special emphasis on the next part) WITH the former Emperor's own magical, intelligent, and resisting, artifact. Tato looked at me with surprise, and Jonathan continued with adding that I had even used a cool phrase when I did it, and the artifact has seemingly chosen me to be the new ruler after many attempts at getting others to take up the mantle.
I muttered that this was enough of this subject, and Jonathan smiled. He asked us again what all we wanted to eat, and Tato cautiously ordered a big breakfast. Jonathan looked at me, and I told him that Savah had decided to hand feed me bits of food, so just something light. Jonathan nodded and zipped off to the kitchen area. There were some other people in the restaurant, and I came up with an idea. I asked Tato if he wanted to see what happened on a bigger screen. Tato said that he would, and I produced the old pseudo-projector that I had made.
One of the waitstaff, one of the warriors of wrath oddly enough, came over when I beckoned, and I asked if they could put out a few of the lights for a bit. I announced to the customers that we would be showing the view from above the city during the attack on Sandpoint, if they all wanted to watch. Most of the customers stopped their meals as I loaded up the video. I had the volume on maximum and started the show. The video played perfectly, and the sound was loud enough for everyone to hear.
After the video was over, there was a lot of talking among the different people in the Barghest. Tato asked me a couple of questions about it, quite a few about how my armor has changed from then. I listened to all of his questions and answered him as best I could without revealing a lot of different secret options, that I had wanted to keep up my sleeve. Tato offered up that he'd want to talk to Savah about ordering a set of the armor, or at least the lighter version of it. I told him that I was more than happy to set him up with an interview with Savah, or he could just drop by the shop.
Jonathan dropped by and casually mentioned that he had seen the armor turn aside a storm giant's arrow, and that some of my later modifications can even help reduce the damage from lightning bolts, fireballs, and the like. Tato thanked me for showing me the video, and for the talk about the armor's capabilities. I thanked him for his time and Tato mentioned that he had to head out but thanked me again for breakfast as well. I wished him well on his way and asked Jonathan if he had a few minutes to talk about an idea that I had. Jonathan sat down and perked up an eyebrow.
I told him my idea. He listened to it in its entirety and asked some appropriate questions. I don't know if Savah reads this, so I'm not writing it in here yet. That will have to be later, after the Golemwalk Parade, when the actual work can start. At least that is when I can get the quads working on everything.
Jonathan was down with it and said that he would work on his end. I mentioned that I was going to have all of us go through the process first, to make sure that it is safe. Jonathan nodded and said that it would have to be tailored to each person. I nodded and noted that this was why I needed to bring him onboard. Jonathan said that he'd get everything set up, so that we can start the process.
I thanked him and chirped up my radio. Savah responded and asked if I was ready to come pick her up and talk to Jonathan. I told her that I Tato had demanded that he take me to breakfast, and that he was going to want to talk to her about getting an armor set up. Savah seemed a bit angry, but I offered up to her that I would bring her by Jonathan later, after I got all of the details, because she would be one of the first to go through with this, after it was determined to be safe. Savah sighed and asked me to pick up a chiliburger for her. I responded that I would and told her that I loved her.
I turned around and Jonathan already had a boxed-up chiliburger, anticipating what she would want. I thanked him, and he replied that he would do the research for her first, since she was already with child and that would yield better results. I thanked him and told him that I appreciated the focus. Jonathan said that he would like to get this all set up, because he was looking forward to getting things ready for his own rampage after everyone was set up. I promised Jonathan that I would help him to the best of my ability.
I grabbed the chiliburger and left from the restaurant. I floated up and flew towards our house. I flew at a leisurely walking pace and landed back at the balcony. Savah was at the balcony and looking a little cross. I landed and presented the boxed chiliburger. Savah looked at me, then at the burger, then at me again. I had the helmet lens lift up and told her that I was not trying to keep something from her just to be mysterious, it was just that it was something that I wasn't one hundred percent certain about, and her safety was more important to me than anything.
Savah took the chiliburger and started eating it. I asked her if she was okay with flying over to Hannah's with me. Savah looked like she was about to say no but it appeared like she changed her mind and said yes. She lifted up under the power of the spell that I had cast on her earlier and invited me to fly alongside her. I took her up on that offer and lifted off of the balcony.
We flew gently over the town of Sandpoint. I touched down first and held my hands out to grab Savah and gently lower her to the ground. I knew that it wasn't needed in any way, but I wanted to make the effort and show her that I still was focusing on her. It's true, I mean, but showing is just as important as the intent, right? I held her stable as she righted herself, she had a bit less experience flying than I did, after all.
We were right in front of Hannah's when we landed, so I asked her if she wanted to go in first, or if we should go in at the same time. Some of the kids who I had transmuted the plant to a hacky sack a while back were there, and it looked like they were trying to get a snowball fight going. Savah noticed that I had seen the kids and told me with a smile that they might need my extreme expertise. She hugged me and said that she would get me after a few minutes. I smiled and wished her luck as I ran over to where the kids were getting a pair of snow forts set up.
It must have been twenty minutes before Savah got my attention. By the time that she did, both Hannah and she were watching me explain all of the best, and meanest, tactics for snowball fights. One of the kids had asked me if I had a lot of experience in snowball fights, and I waxed poetic a bit about where I grew up and how one year, there was so much snow on the roads that the snowplows had pushed the snow so high that it was twelve feet tall. I noticed Savah and Hannah looking at me eventually and excused myself. I used a prestidigitation to clean off all of the snow before I made my way into Hannah's office with Savah.
The meeting with Hannah went well enough. There were no major issues with Savah's pregnancy, especially with the addition of the literature that I had provided to Hannah. Who knew that a .pdf dive a couple of years ago would be useful now? I mean, I was getting prepared for anything, but I didn't think I'd be preparing for this. At least not a fantasy realm with Elves and Demons and Giants and shit. The ghouls seem close enough to zombies that they seem to pass okay.
Then came the big issue. I asked Savah if I could just have a few minutes with Hannah to discuss what I was considering. Savah seemed a bit huffy, but Hannah said that it was a good idea for me to check with someone of medical experience before I considered something that could be deleterious to her or the baby. I went into the meeting with Hannah. We discussed what I had figured out and what it would do before coming to some conclusions. If you ARE reading this Savah, Hannah actually agreed with me on you not knowing until we make sure that it is safe.
We got Savah back into the office, and Hannah explained that I was working on something that would be extremely beneficial not just for us, but for the entire town once we figure out how to get everyone thru it. Hannah just reassured Savah that I was trying to do something extremely good for not just her, but for the town as well, and that when I was done, it would all be worth it. Savah huffed and noted that she didn't like surprises. Hannah reassured her that she would like this one. Hannah asked me how long that I thought it would take to get everything sorted.
I did some quick math. After we were done with the truck for Faunra, I could start work on the generation system. That might be done VERY quickly now that I can do this whole fabrication trick. At a worst case, I figure it would take me a week with all of the Quads help to get the generator finally built. After that, once the schematic is worked out, with some help from Dame Rebekah and Faunra, I might take another week each of the six subcomponents.
I spoke up after the dirty math and told Hannah and Savah that at worst, assuming no other problems, seven weeks until EVERYTHING was done, and we had a generation system that would be sufficient to power a LOT of equipment for the town. Hannah nodded thoughtfully and asked how long until at least one part of the project was done after the generator. I told them that I was figuring on a week for each component, but that was assuming very bad conditions. Hannah asked if one part could be started before the next part finished. I noted that each of the subsequent parts would necessarily HAVE to be done separately.
Hannah nodded and looked at Savah, who was getting a bit pissed now. Hannah rested her hand on Savah's shoulder and told her that I would be working on something that would be benefiting her first and foremost, and that once it was verified to be fully operational, and tested, she would be informed on it. I told Savah that I would tell her when we were starting the first test, and that I would even give her the choice, barring herself, who the first person to test it would be. Savah told us that she'd think about it. I offered up that I really wanted to make sure that it was one hundred percent safe, but that it was her that I was thinking about most for this.
Hannah had another appointment, so she wished us well. She whispered something in Savah's ear, and Savah got a mischievous grin. I looked at Hannah, and Hannah simply said that she had revealed that it would helping both Savah and our kids. I looked at her and mouthed, Kids? Hannah smiled and told me loudly enough for Savah to hear that it looked like I wasn't the only one to be keeping secrets.
I looked to Savah, but she had already started to drift back towards the house. I ran after her on the ground to catch up and took flight when I got close enough. I flew after her, not getting too close, but ensuring that she knew that I was there to support her, if she wanted. We made our way home through the skies of Sandpoint, and it was about lunchtime. Savah alighted upon our balcony, and I told her that I had to cast a spell for Niddler quick, but that I would be right there.
I flew over to where Niddler was and quickly cast the Unseen Craftsmen spell. I directed them to follow his orders and flew back to the balcony quickly. Savah was laying on the bed, all provocatively like. I closed the balcony door behind me, and she had the biggest smile on her face. I asked her, what this was about kids.
Savah smiled and started to say, "well, you know, when a man and a woman love each other very much…" I stopped her with a finger raised up, and floated across the room, ordering my armor onto a dummy with a reflexive spell. I hovered over her and asked her again. Not being mean or angry, I asked her what Hannah meant by the plural of kids. Savah smiled and said that she didn't think about it until a few weeks ago, but twins do run in her family. I floated down to just above her and hugged her. We embraced for a good long time.
Savah asked me if I would come clean on the project. I told her that I would definitely, once I got the last bit of information that I needed to make sure that everything would work right. I told her that I didn't want to disappoint her with the possibility of what I was going to try, and then come up short. Savah sighed and asked when I expected to be able to reveal everything to her. I told her that it would be no more than three weeks, and a day, after the Golemwalk Parade. Savah noted that it would be over two weeks away.
I looked at her oddly and asked her what day it was. She confirmed the day, and the date of the Golemwalk Parade. We have more time to get things done for the vehicle. I decided to get into communication with Faunra to see if she had any ideas about other things we could do. It was then that Jonathan messaged me before I could even call her.
It was town council from Jotunburg. They had a passed a question to Jonathan, and it had been his turn to listen in on the radio. They had wanted to know if there would be the possibility of sending possible recruits to the school. I gulped and thought for a brief moment I turned the radio to that channel while Savah was waiting there. I responded back on that channel that I had not prepared the facility specifically for those of increased size, but we can work on accommodations if they are needed.
Morgiv responded back that for his people it would not be necessary, but there was a Stone Giant that had tested highly in those fields of my test and was interested. I responded back to him that I would leave the possibility of up to four representatives from the town for each semester. They can be filled by agreement from the four groups, or each group can elect one of their members. I will leave it to the town to decide. Morgiv thanked me and said that he would relay this to the rest of the town council and get back to me with the results.
I changed the channel back and looked to Savah. She smiled and noted that the school was certainly going to be a bit busier and more important than I had anticipated. I shrugged and told her that I would want to know if she had any issues with this. Savah shook her head and noted that she was certain that I knew what was really important. I smiled and told her that I knew it was her and the future kids.
Savah smiled before she told me to go make my calls, as she knew that I had to call Faunra to check about this and other things. I told Savah that I would back as soon as I could. I headed down to the former workshop where the extension array was still located. I picked up the radio and paged Faunra. I heard her voice after a minute, and she asked me what I wanted.
I responded over the radio that I needed to talk to her about the school, and about the truck project. The voice responded that she would be right back. I guessed that I had gotten one of the Wax-homs. Faunra's voice picked back up and said that she was available to talk about whatever I needed to talk about. I told her that school was looking like it was going to need some accessibility magical items, as it was likely that we would need to decrease the size of some of the students, to more normal levels.
Faunra considered for a minute and came back with saying that she could whip up a few magic items to decrease the size of the wearer for hours a day. I told her that we might need three or so of the magic items, as the town council of Jotunburg has four picks for the school. Faunra said that she understood and wanted to know what I needed to talk about for the truck. Were there going to be delays? I responded to her with telling her that apparently the Golemwalk parade was in twelve days, so we had time to add weapons.
Faunra was silent for a minute and asked if I meant to include a battery bank and weapons in the truck after the fact. I told her that I would work on the stuff, and she could integrate it in later, or they could be upgrades like armor or weapons. Faunra asked me how I would spec out the truck. I noted that we had not designated the truck's utility at this point, that we could go with either weapons for defense, or even an emergency fire response vehicle. Faunra said that she liked the thought of a fire response vehicle.
I told her that I would work on the weaponry and on the specs and get back to her. Drawing up some quick schematics, I figured on a bunch of fire extinguishers and maybe some rocket launchers for defense, you know, like Inferno. After the brief write up of what all would be needed, I went back upstairs to check in on Savah. She had apparently decided to take a midday nap, so I decided to do the same.
I woke up with Savah cuddled up to me, but she was asleep. I smiled and had a voice in my head reminding me that I needed to put the third group to work on Scratchpoint. I sighed and extricated myself from being in bed with Savah. I got up and floated over to the balcony, where Niddler was waiting. We flew over to the area where he needed the next group to be summoned.
I did my part and ordered the Unseen Crafters to do the work that was needed to be done. Niddler thanked me and I took a lap around the property. I noticed that Oren was waiting at his future property, and I flew down to check in on him. Oren talked about his plans and the house. Oren noted that he was amazed that the prices of everything was so much less here than back in Riddleport.
Riddleport…
Riddleport.
Riddle-Port.
The Quay of Aenigmas. The Quay (Port) of Aenigmas (Riddle(s)).
Fuck.
Riddleport HAS to be the location. It HAS to be. A city on with a deep harbor. My rough translation now goes, "On the fifteenth (or thirteenth) of some month, in the near future, a meteorite will fall in the vicinity of Riddleport that will cause a tsunami." While I was realizing this, I absentmindedly create as many "Wall of Stone" spells as Oren needed, and then rushed home.
I paged over the extended radio to everyone that we needed to talk as quickly as possible. Jonathan responded first, saying that we all could drop by his restaurant tonight. Faunra agreed next, or at least it was likely that one of her Wax-Homs did. Now I wonder if at any point in the future, who I will be talking to. Chelger responded that Dame Rebekah can be available at the end of the day. I paged back to everyone that we needed all hands on this, that I likely figured out the location of the prophecy.
The radio was silent as I expected everyone was waiting for everyone else to speak. Finally, I came back over and told everyone that we needed to have a discussion in the SECURE ROOM in the school. Jonathan responded again first, saying that he was going to bring food for all of us. Chelger responded back that the both of them would at the school at the end of the day. Faunra responded back that she would get in contact with Shalelu, but that she would not likely be available to get back in time.
I agreed with everyone and told them that I would prepare the area. I still had the ability to conceal an area from divinations. They all signed off that they will be at the school at dusk. I thanked them and told them that I would set the area up. Jonathan said that he'd bring the refreshments when he said goodbye.
I immediately went and got Savah, and we walked to the most secret area of the school, the "hazard room". We started checking everything out and I put a spell over the area to protect it from scrying. I'll really have to figure some more impressive ways to keep scrying from going on in whatever planning room we end up making, but for now, this will have to work. Savah was doing her very utmost to ensure that there were no hidden spies or items that had been left that could be used as a scrying focus. After all of our preparations, we felt that we were ready.
Jonathan showed up with Shayliss, telekinetically floating a huge platter full of tacos and burritos. I don't even remember giving him a recipe for either of them. Maybe it was in the recipe book that he read on the tablet. They were damn good tacos too, just saying. Hell, I don't even know where he found the spices to make tacos, but he did a damn fine job. Somehow, he even managed a good version of the Diablo Sauce from Taco Bell.
Faunra and Shalelu showed up next, walking down and into the room. Faunra walked up to me and asked if it was an issue that a Starlight Archon was floating around the halls. I shrugged, and noted that as long as everyone remained non-violent, I didn't care. Faunra nodded and went over to try one of the foods that Jonathan had brought. Dame Rebekah and Chelger were the next, and they came walking down, thanking me for having Niddler take custody of their pegasi.
I shrugged and said that this was all on his initiative, and that I have mostly divorced myself from needing to tell the lot of the kids what they should do. Savah smiled and said that them and Bailey are really growing up, before hugging me happily. I smiled and noted that our kids will have a lot of defensive older siblings. Savah smiled to me and hugged me harder. Jonathan cleared his throat, and I broke out of the happy feelings to tell them why I had summoned them all here.
I told them about how I had been talking to Oren and he brought up the name of his city of birth, Riddleport. Shayliss coyly asked if that was the city of my birth too, since he was my "cousin". I sighed and looked at her but didn't say a word for a full minute. I broke the silence and repeated the prophecy for everyone, "Unto the Ides, Scal will shed a single tear. That tear will send the Wave of Harbors to the Quay of Aenigmas." I translated it out for them as I understood it. "Likely, 'On the Fifteenth of Pharast, a meteorite will descend from the sky, and cause a tsunami to strike Riddleport.'" I went through the months where it would be on the fifteenth, and when it would be on the thirteenth.
Dame Rebekah sighed and asked if there was a way to isolate it down to a certain month. I thought for a minute, and realized that during the month of Rova, the Ides would be on the thirteenth, and that the thirteenth would be on a Fireday, or Friday. I told them that in all likelihood, it would either occur next month, or during the month of Rova. Shalelu asked me why Rova or Pharast, and I told everyone that the Ides were a specific thing from my cultural history, and as such Pharast, or being the closest month to March, would be the likeliest. I continued with telling them that I viewed Rova, although it was farther away, as being the next likeliest, because it's Ides would be on a Fireday, and that back where I was from, there were horror movies about how bad and unlucky of a day a Fireday the thirteenth was.
Jonathan seemed to agree with my assessment and asked what we would do if it was some other month. I told everyone that this was all guesswork, but that it kind of felt right to me. Faunra noted that prophecies felt "right" when they were understood fully. I offered up both translations, and Faunra said that the Rova one felt more accurate for some reason. Dame Rebekah agreed with her assessment. Savah sighed, and I asked her what was wrong. Savah said that of course it would be close to her birthday.
I looked at Faunra, and we shared a quick glance. I told Savah that there was no reason to think that it was related to her. Hell, it was close to a year after I had showed up here. It could easily be more related to me. Faunra shook her head and noted that from what her goddess had told her, things like these were set in motion long, long ago. Faunra added that the direct movements of deities were more likely, due to Scal being mentioned directly in the prophecy. Savah seemed a bit relaxed after hearing all of that. I offered up that we were still planning on going to special for her birthday, it was going to have to be on a weekend anyway.
Savah did some more math and figured that she would be due a month or so before the tsunami, so she was going to be stuck not assisting in the rescue operations. I noted that we still needed to get a few more planes built up, as we would need as much rescue capacity as we could to help out. Faunra said that she didn't think that planes would be the best solution, as the city would likely need more precision than speed. I nodded and noted that I had been thinking about whipping up some plans to make DaVinci happy. They all looked at me oddly, but I just noted that they would see the results when I had a minute to figure everything out, but that we were going to need more pilots.
Faunra said that she would help with the fabrication, of course, and if she won the Golemwalk parade contest, she might even be able to exert some pressure on Toth to have his students help as well. I offered up that we could try to spin this to the Lord-Mayor as a way to increase the "legitimacy" of Magnimar as the pre-eminent power in Varisia. Savah nodded and said that she could make a push with the merchant guild in Magnimar. Shayliss offered up that she will contact the Taverners and Innkeepers guilds as well. Dame Rebekah and Chelger both offered up that they would be going to their respective churches to get their support, but that pilots seemed in short supply.
I thought about it and figured who would be the best fits. Then it came to me, I had a pair of people that I would be more than happy to ask tomorrow morning. That would leave us with three helicopters and a plane for moving more people. If we focus almost entirely on rescue, we can probably do it for around twelve thousand apiece. And each one might be able to lift off with a decent amount of people, transfer them over to a floating dock that we fabricate up, and then go back for more. Oh yeah, its all coming together now.
I told them that I would get back with all of them in the morning about what I thought that we might need from each, and that I'd work up the plans for what I was thinking about and get them to the right person as soon as I could. I added that it is to my understanding that we pass these over to the town afterwards, so that they can utilize them as needed. Dame Rebekah countered with recommending that we sweeten the pot with the Lord-Mayor to offer him up two of whatever I was designing for his assistance. I told her that this was a great idea, and that we could tease it out tomorrow, to try to get all of the details worked out.
We spent the rest of the night postulating different things and figuring out what to do with any people we rescue when it happens. A couple of times, it was brought up as to why we had been tasked with this, and surprisingly it was Shayliss who had the most succinct answer, that we were in a position where we could act for it. Eventually, the taco/burrito platter ran empty, and the plans were made. Everyone parted ways, with Faunra and Shalelu getting the truck to drive back to their tower. Jonathan levitated their bikes onto the bed. Dame Rebekah and Chelger flew off with their steeds.
Savah and I retreated back to our home. Savah asked me if what I was going to build would add time to her "surprise". I told her that I'd be working on her surprise first, that with the reconfigured times, I might be able to get them all made very quickly, especially with the help of the generator. Savah asked how quickly. I smiled and told her that it would take less than two weeks, after tomorrow working on the guns for the truck.
Savah looked at me and asked me why I had said that it would be month earlier. I looked at her and said that I had been planning on having to get ready for next month. If I have several months to prepare, I can get the preparations spread out over time and get something finished up earlier that will help us greatly. Savah asked if that was the generator. I nodded and said that I would be working on it to get us a much better functioning power distribution system for the town, including everything that we need the generator for.
We talked a bit more about the various plans, and eventually Savah excused herself to sleep. I spent a little while drawing up plans for the Helicarrier. It was time. We had the Quadjet, we were going to need it for the rescue effort. I'll pitch this different idea to Faunra tomorrow, with the possibilities of us just having drop pods instead of actual ships. Drop pods will be a LOT easier to pilot, and only really need to go up and down. We can have one pilot for the whole thing, if only I could find a Samuel L Jackson on this planet.
