Chapter X: A New Day
The next morning...
As the sun rose over the town, and the rooster gave his early call from the local farm, Lincoln's eyes slowly cracked open once the glare of morning's day shined into his room and on his face. The young boy groaned into his pillow before he pushed himself up from his bed and checked the time on his collector's edition Ace Savvy alarm clock. His blurry vision cleared up to see 5:41 AM displayed on-screen, still about an hour before he would have to go to school. Lincoln rubbed his tired eyes and let out a grunt from his lips as he sat on the edge of his bed.
"Well, might as well make the most of it." He mumbled to himself. Since he was probably the first one up, Lincoln decided to take advantage of the rare quietness on this Monday morning. Scattered around on his covers were open notebooks and pencils from his rushed homework attempt, some of which fell when he pulled off his blankets. He managed to pry himself from his bed, but his feet never touched the ground. It took him a couple moments before he looked down and saw that he was floating about half a foot above the floor.
"Oh, that's right. Superpowers." Lincoln said, and he remembered that he and his sisters had superpowers now, and the small adventure he had with them in the park last night. The memory put a smile on his face, the jovial feeling of wielding a comic book ability helping him get over his morning grogginess just a little bit. He willed his powers off which dropped down to the floor with a thump before he reached for his towel, loofah and anti-dandruff shampoo, and headed off for the bathroom to start the day. When he opened the door he noticed that he wasn't the only who had woken up early.
"Lynn?"
His sporty, fire-powered sister turned around when she heard her name. Like him, Lynn carried with her a stark red towel and a bottle of sport shampoo as she stood in front of the bathroom door. Lynn certainly had a look of surprise when she saw her brother leave his bedroom at this hour.
"Hey, good morning Lincoln. You're up kinda early." She said to her brother.
"I could say the same to you too Lynn," he said back, and heard the shower running behind her, "So who's in the bathroom?"
"Luan." Lynn responded. "She must've gotten up earlier than us."
"Uh huh. So, didn't sleep that well?" Lincoln asked, wondering why Lynn was up as early as he was. While it wasn't unusual for Lynn to be an early riser, she only did so on weekends, not on weekdays which made it a little strange. He guessed that it could be related to her new powers affecting her sleep schedule.
"Oh gosh, not at all. I kept dreaming that I was falling while on fire and couldn't put myself out while I was burning, and when I woke up it felt like I was sweating lava. I would've loved to take a shower first to wash myself off but Luan beat me to it." Lynn said, and it seemed that he was correct with her being awake because of her superheat. She must have unknowingly activated it when she was asleep, something that Lincoln made a mental note to look into himself later. As he gave his sister a closer look, he could see the sweat stains on her tank top, soaking the top of her collar and under her armpits. She also had dark rings under her eyes, giving hint to a sleepless rest.
"That honestly sounds more like you had a nightmare." He said to her, imagining what that must have felt like to wake up in.
"Yeah, no shit. So, how about you? What's gotten you up so early? Did you pull an all-nighter because of your homework? You were making a big deal of it yesterday before we got home." Lynn asked, considering she'd given her reason and it was time for Lincoln to say his.
"I don't really know. The homework wasn't that difficult, it was just really long. I guess I've just got a case early bird syndrome for the day." Lincoln said back, shrugging as the shower finally stopped running with a squeak of a handle. A couple moments passed before the door opened to reveal Luan wrapped up in a bright yellow bathrobe, her long brown hair draped over her shoulders as she dried her head with an equally yellow towel. The comedian stopped once she saw her two younger siblings standing in front of her.
"Oh hey, good morning Lincoln. I didn't know the both of you were up so early. What gives?" She asked.
"Morning, Luan. I was just feeling a bit restless today," Lincoln shrugged as he gave his reply, similar to what he just told Lynn.
"From your late night homework marathon or the fact that we're going to school with superpowers?"
"Eh, probably both."
"Well don't you sweat yourself like Lynn here!" Luan jovially said with a pointed thumb at her sister, which Lynn responded to with an annoyed look on her face. "As long as we keep our heads together we'll have nothing to worry about, just like you said!"
Lincoln knew his comedy-driven sister was giving him a good point. After all, it was him that said that their powers would only be an uncontrollable problem if they let them.
"Yeah, I think I'm just getting excited for what might happen later." Lincoln responded. It was understandable for someone like Lincoln to have some level of excitement despite the challenges. They had superpowers now, and like something straight out of a science-fiction movie he would have watched the Loud siblings were going to have to try and keep those powers a secret from prying eyes once they were out in the world.
"You can keep yourself excited right here, Lincoln. I'm hitting the showers." Lynn said with a dismissive wave of her hand, marched on to the bathroom and closed the door behind her.
"Ignore her, she's gotta be really cranky and, dare I say, fired up?" Luan laughed at her joke, as simple as it was. When she was done she gently lay her hand on Lincoln's shoulder and she knelt down to eye level. She spoke with a caring, supporting tone of voice and said, "We'll be fine, Linc. We got this far thanks to your advice, bro. Give yourself a pat on the back for once again helping us out when we needed it."
"No problem, Luan. It's what family's for." He said back, now feeling a little brighter after hearing his sister praise him at this hour. Seeing as her brother was certainly feeling better, Luan headed back to her room and left Lincoln alone in the hallway with his thoughts. As he waited in line for his turn in the shower, Lincoln's imagination began to play out its own little fantasy world, one with heroes and heroines like him and his sisters using their powers to fight villains and protect the innocent. He could see it playing clearly in his head.
Of course, this was all just his imagination. He might have superpowers, but he wasn't a superhero.
"Not yet, at least."
...
The morning hour rolled on with the rest of the family steadily waking up after Lincoln had finished showering. His other sisters were certainly surprised when they saw Lincoln emerge from the bathroom before them. As he told Lynn and Luan before, he had informed them that he had been under some sleeplessness in the previous night and managed to wake up earlier than usual. After that Lincoln had gone to his room and put on his usual orange polo and blue jeans, stuffing his backpack with notebooks and papers before he left. He was surprised to see that the hallway had not descended into chaos like it usually was, but then again he guessed it was because they had powers, and nobody wanted to act up at this hour.
"So this is how it feels to be an early riser. Might have to make this a recurring habit." Lincoln happily said to himself as he made his way down the stairs. Being one of the first ones up did have its benefits. The growling coming from his stomach was telling him he needed some breakfast, and today he was aiming to get some first dibs for once.
"Speak for yourself, Stinkoln," Lynn groused behind him, rubbing her eyes as she followed her brother, "Oh man, practice is gonna be brutal today with this crap going on. I almost fell asleep in the shower."
"You could always take a mulligan, Lynn."
"Screw that. I'm Lynn Loud, I don't quit no matter what. I can beat some stupid friggin' insomnia." Lynn spat at her brother, offended that he would dare use the m-word to her face.
"Whatever you say, sis." He shrugged right as they entered the kitchen.
"Good morning, kids!" Lynn Sr. cheerily said as he cooked some eggs over the oven once the two siblings made their way into the kitchen. The two let out their respective "Hello," and "Hi," as they took their seats at the small table, since nobody else was downstairs other than them. Their father made a whistling noise once he saw Lynn round the corner and noticed what was going on with his sporty daughter. "Yikes, LJ. Those are some dark rings under your eyes. Were you late-night exercising in the garage again?"
"No dad, it's just some stupid sleeplessness from a bad dream I had." She said to him, and her mind was too tired to care about her annoyed tone of voice. She kept her head up with her hand as she waited for her breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast.
"Bad dream? Wow, you haven't had those in years. Must've been quite a spook. How about you, sport?" Lynn turned his attention to his only son. "What's gotten you up so early?"
"I was feeling restless this morning. That's it." Lincoln simply said, shrugging as he answered his father. Lynn Sr. had a perplexed look on his face after her heard both of his children's responses, and how oddly similar they were. But it was probably just a coincidence, so he let it slide. Once the eggs were done cooking, scrambled for Lynn and over-easy for Lincoln along with a plate of buttered toast, breakfast was served. The two siblings eagerly chowed down just as Luan and Lola arrived from upstairs, clad in their usual apparel.
"Morning dad."
"Hi daddy!"
"Man, it really is waking hours today! Good morning you two!" Lynn exclaimed, seeing two of his usually late-riser daughters coming down before everyone else. "Were you guys having too much fun last night or was Lori keeping you guys under wraps?"
"Oh don't worry," Lola waved her hand in a dismissive manner, "We sure had a lot of fun last night, didn't we Luan?"
The comedian instantly caught on to what Lola was implying and went along with her.
"Yep! As much fun as we could have with Lori around, a walk in the park as some might say." Luan said, winking at Lola. Unfortunately their little shared joke had some unintended results as Lynn and Lincoln nearly choked on their foods after overhearing what Luan said, with Lincoln sucking down his eggs a bit too fast and Lynn hacking up some orange juice from going down the wrong pipe. Both of them had been verbally blindsided with their siblings talking about what happened yesterday like it was no concern, even if it wasn't directly referenced. The rest of the family turned to see what was going on just as Lincoln was done beating his chest and swallowed his food while Lynn wiped her lips from excess juice.
"Are you two okay over there?" Lynn Sr. asked.
"W-We're fine!" Lynn croaked with her throat full of phlegm. She grimaced when she saw her orange juice on her breakfast. "Aw man, got it all over my toast."
"Here, you can have mine." Lincoln handed over a slice to his sister. She definitely needed it more than he did.
"Thanks bro."
Luan and Lola scooted on over once they had their breakfast in hand, one sunny-side up for Lola and a deviled egg for Luan. The moment the two of them sat down they were greeted with glares from the two current occupants. Luan finished chewing on a piece of egg before she spoke up.
"What?"
"Don't you what me, sis!" Lynn hissed at the comedian, who looked quite confused as to why Lynn was acting this way. She quickly made sure to check to see if her dad could hear, and thankfully his attention was focused on cooking more breakfast, before she went back to chastising Luan. "You two almost blew our cover, you morons! You heard what Lori said, we absolutely cannot tell mom and dad what happened to us!"
"Yeah, nonetheless start joking about it! What's wrong with you?" Lincoln added, feeling just as annoyed as Lynn was. Luan looked like she'd just been accused of a crime and so did Lola.
"Yeesh, you guys are acting like I'd actually do just that. Look, nobody here is gonna spill the beans about us, including myself." Luan reassured her younger sister and brother, making sure to get her point across so they'd feel a little better. For Luan it honestly felt like she couldn't be trusted with life-changing info, but she acknowledged what Lynn was conveying. She did have a history of loose-lip syndrome when it came to family secrets. "So what if I hinted at what went down last night? Nobody else is gonna know, so who cares?"
"Yeah, cut us some slack." Lola pointed her fork at the both of them before finishing off her breakfast. "We're in no danger here."
"You say that Lola, but I've seen enough movies to know that's how it all starts." Lincoln said, taking a bite out of his egg. His mind began to play out some rather dark scenarios similar to the ones he'd seen on film and TV. "Soon we'll have to watch out for government agents and deadly bounty hunters that will be sneaking around trying to capture us, or worse."
"Sure, whatever Lincoln." Lola rolled her eyes as she sipped her orange juice. Her brother could really be foolish sometimes. "You can tell me when that happens, 'cause I'd love to know."
Lincoln shook his head and went back to eating.
...
"Okay, everybody who isn't in the van in one minute's gonna be left behind!" Lori announced from the driver's seat of Vanzilla while she blared the horn. Once breakfast had been served to the rest of the siblings as the house reached its maximum livelihood, it was finally time to start heading out. Lori, as per usual, had been the first one out the door and into the family van since she was the only one with a license. Given that it was a Monday, she was in no mood to wait for her siblings. As soon as she gave that warning her siblings rushed out of the door in a frenzy, carrying their notebooks and backpacks. After some pushing and shoving, they were finally ready for the drive to school.
"Bye kids, happy Monday!" Lynn Sr. waved to the van as it drove off, Rita right beside him. In her arms was Lily, who was nervously watching her older siblings leave the house. She might be young, but she too knew the rules that Lori implemented. The baby wasn't that oblivious. But without her sibling's help, the question of who would be there to guide her without any peril was on her mind.
"Are you ready for today, Lily? We're gonna be playing with blocks today!" Rita said to her youngest daughter, tickling her nose. The mention of play instantly brightened Lily's mood and the baby let out a cheer.
Meanwhile back in Vanzilla, Lori could sense the anxiousness that her younger sisters had. The only one who seemed to be calm was Lincoln, busy reading a Deathstroke comic with a curious Lana. Even after the night before with testing their powers, they knew that was still a good chance something could go very wrong. School was far from the best place to be secretive, and it would be utterly disastrous if their secret got out. From the driver's seat she spied Luna tugging on her guitar straps with small electrical bolts humming between her fingers, and Leni keeping her hands balled up and off of any surface she might touch and accidentally manipulate. Lori's instincts as the eldest sibling commanded her to say something, so she did.
"Is everyone okay back there? I know this isn't going to be easy, even after all we tried to do," Lori began, hoping to get their minds off of overthinking themselves, "But if we can get through this, then we can literally handle anything else. Right?"
A chorus of nervous-sounding "Yeah,"s and "Mmhm,"s followed, but it was their brother that had a driven look to his face when he decided to speak up after he heard his eldest sister talk. The words that Luan said earlier to him this morning rang in his ears, and he felt that it was now his turn to give his family some motivation.
"Lori's right, girls!" Lincoln suddenly shouted, putting down his comic book and pounding a fist into an open hand as the van stopped at a red light. He immediately got his sister's attention with how invigorated he seemed. "We're the Louds, and we don't give up, no matter what! So what if we've got some rather awesome superpowers, that's not gonna stop us from being who we are! Nothing will! We'll get through today and every other day together!"
Their brother's sense of pride and support was just what they needed to hear. Surely, their minds began to delve into happier, more joyous thoughts. They had done their best to learn how to control their powers, not the other way around, and if anything happened their family would be there to help them out no matter what. Luna stopped playing with her strap, clutching a fist to shut off her supercharge and keep it under wraps. Lincoln was right, she was Luna Loud, and she wasn't about to let some powers ruin her life.
"Little bro, you know exactly how to get me rockin'!" The rockstar said. Her brother had a point. If they could get through today, then it was certainly possible they could do it again for as long as they needed.
"A quite impressive speech there, Lincoln. I sincerely applaud you for giving us a sense of duty in these trying times." Lisa said, pushing up her glasses from the second row as she peered behind her, using her UV-vision to see through the van seats to find her brother. Or at least she wanted to, but had to stop when she realized that Lynn was sitting next to him, and her superheat was practically blazing under ultraviolet. Lisa visibly flinched and squeezed her eyes shut. "Sweet science, your body temperature's newfound natural eminence makes you utterly blinding, Lynn."
"Yeah, can't exactly control that, Lisa," Lynn said, and then snarkily added on, "Unlike some people with their big mouths."
"Hey, who you callin' big mouthed, sister?" Luan instantly knew that Lynn was talking about her and Lola regarding what they said earlier during breakfast.
"I'm calling you big-mouthed, you Weird Al hack!"
"I take offense to that!"
"Lynn, Luan, shut up!" Lori barked, just as she pulled up to the front of the elementary school, "Alright, all elementary kids out. And remember what we practiced!"
"Stay totes strong, guys! We'll get through this!" Leni added.
"Gotcha! See you later!" Lincoln waved goodbye with Lucy, Lisa and the twins as Lori put the van in drive and drove off from the roadside towards the middle school. Lincoln turned to face his four younger sisters, all of them looking at him for guidance. "Are you guys ready to do this?"
"I guess so, Lincoln." Lucy said.
"We're ready!" Both Lana and Lola cheered at once.
"I too share my sister's mood. I say, bring it on!" Lisa thrust her fists in the air, a sudden thrilling burst of energy coming from the genius toddler.
"Sweet, let's go." Lincoln said and led his sisters in through the school doors where they were greeted with the ringing of the first bell and a rushing population of kids heading to classes as the school day officially began. It was quite hectic for a Monday morning, and he could see it in everyone's dull, tired eyes. Lisa had just stepped inside when she heard someone call out her name, someone she recognized.
"Good morning Lisa!" A young, cheery voice called from the other side of the hallway, and the little scientist turned to see her friend Darcy run towards her and give her a hug which Lisa gladly returned. An encounter with her best friend always brightened her mood, which Lisa didn't know she needed until now.
"Hello Darcy, it is wonderful to see you again."
"You too! Wanna hold hands?" Lisa eagerly nodded, and the two of them headed off to their kindergarten class.
While Lincoln gave his farewells and drifted away from his sisters as they separated and went to their various homerooms across the school, the white-haired boy spotted his usual posse of friends waiting for him by his locker. Clyde was the first to notice his best friend as he approached them.
"Hey, Lincoln!" Clyde cheerily said, holding up a high five that Lincoln eagerly gave back.
"Morning guys, what's cooking?" Lincoln asked. It was nice to see his friends again, especially after the weekend he had.
"Yo Linc, we were just telling Stella about the movie we saw last Friday," Rusty said, leaning on his locker as he gestured towards the taller girl with a thumb, "Could you believe she thinks it sucked? It was the best movie I've seen yet, and here she thinks it was too boring for her to enjoy."
"I so did not say that, Rusty." Stella argued as she crossed her arms in annoyance with the ginger, who of course was now prattling about how a small dislike she had morphed into thinking that she hated the entire movie. "I only said that I didn't like how much filler there was in certain parts. Sure, there was a lot of action, but way too much talking for my tastes."
"Well how else are people going to know what's going on with a movie like that?" Liam asked as they headed towards their first homeroom class with Ms. Johnson. "Can't just have 'em start blasting away, you gotta give 'em character and backstory."
"What can I say? I'm an action junkie. I like explosions." Stella admitted as the six of them entered the filled classroom and took their assigned seats, and just in time as the bell rung again. The only one late was Ms. Johnson, who managed to stumble into the class in the nick of time, carrying a stack of paper and a cup of coffee after a couple minutes passed with the kids inside talking to each other. She carefully tossed the paper on her desk before she said her hellos.
"Good morning, class." She said to her students, sipping her warm beverage to get some energy flowing in her veins.
"Good morning, Ms. Johnson!" They all replied.
"Now I know you're all excited to get started with your classes, but I have an announcement to make before I start taking attendance." Ms. Johnson went back over to where she dropped off the paper stack and started to hand it out to each student she passed by. Soon enough she got to Lincoln, who was stunned to see what was written on the paper file he was given by his teacher.
"We're going to visit the Royal Woods Air Museum this Wednesday!" She said, and the class erupted in cheer. The red-haired woman put her hands out to try and calm her students. "Yes, I know field trips are very exciting. So I want you to hold on to those papers so your parents can take a look at them and make sure you can sign up to visit. Now on that note, let's get started with the attendance for today..."
As she kept on speaking, Lincoln digested the information presented to him thanks to the flier in his hands. The crest of the museum printed in color was a dead giveaway, and the numerous pictures of fighter jets, helicopters and other aircraft got his attention as well. The passage below detailed some sort of celebration, an anniversary of a historical battle that took place during the second World War. He'd been to the museum before, but that was when he didn't have superpowers, especially said superpowers that granted him the ability to fly just like an airplane. It was oddly coincidental, but he couldn't help but feel somewhat thrilled that he was going to see the museum with this friends.
...
As the school day went on, Lucy wound up in the library, making herself busy in her open study class by scribbling a rune in her personal sketchbook, small and wrapped in black bindings, that she kept with her at all times. Usually it was filled with her poetry, but after receiving her magic-based powers she had decided to try and use it to create new spells for her to practice later on. Of course she wouldn't do it on school grounds, that was for sure. However, Lucy knew that it was good for her to try and learn more about what magic she could use as her powers progressively grew.
"Huh, that looks pretty good." Lucy said to herself, putting her pen down and glazing over the rune she had just drawn. It was the third one she'd made so far, each of them drawn with intricate designs and shapes, the first being a triangle and the second a heptagon. She turned over to a new page, eager to make another one. Checking to see if anyone was around, Lucy summoned the same rune she had drawn in the palm of her hand, this time glowing neon green. She couldn't help but smile in amazement at what she was capable of. She could only imagine what more she could do down the line.
"Wicked."
"Good morning Lucy." A sudden voice caused the goth to snap her hand shut as Rocky Spokes announced himself right behind her, nearly causing her to freak out.
"H-Hello Rocky. How are you?" She asked, calming herself down as her good friend approached. She hadn't known that he was also here. A faint blush appeared on her face when the young ginger made himself known. Rocky had a special place in her black heart, though she'd never admit it out loud. In the heat of the moment, and from seeing the boy, Lucy had forgotten to close her book, which Rocky was able to see what she had drawn with a curious peek.
"I'm good. Ooh, those are some nice drawings, Lucy!" The redhead said, leaning forward to get a better view. "Almost looks like magic!"
"Magic you say?" Lucy near instantly replied, spinning her head so fast her neck let out a tiny pop.
"Um, yeah, like runes and stuff. Very ornamental, but it looks cool!" Rocky said, slightly unnerved with how fast Lucy responded to what he said. She seemed to be a little secretive, or rather more secretive than she usually was, but he was used to it. Their brief conversation was cut short by the bell ringing, which meant that Lucy's time in the library was over.
"Well I guess I gotta go. Talk to you later, Lucy!" Rocky waved his hand as he left the library.
"You too Rocky." She waved back. The moment he was gone she let out a breath of air that she had unknowingly been holding in. That was way too close for comfort for the goth. Lucy didn't want Rocky of all people to find out she could now use magic like the stories of witches and wizards they had shared. She'd dodged a proverbial bullet right there, wiping off a bead of sweat that trickled down her forehead as she stuffed her sketchbook into her bookbag and hurried off out of the library, thanking that she'd been saved by the literal bell.
"Note to self," she mumbled under her breath as she left, "Make sure to check all of my blind spots."
...
"C'mon Lola, please?"
"No."
"But I just got here! Can't you cut me some slack?"
"That was before I remembered you promised me ice cream yesterday from our little excursion, so you owe me. Now hand it over."
The two twins were currently sitting opposite each other in the cafeteria as lunch period started, and the second graders were the first to munch down. It was chicken nuggets with fries and salted green beans, and for dessert they got small cups of ice cream. Lola had already downed her lunch right as Lana took her seat in front of her twin on the other side of the table, and the pageant princess was now badgering Lana for the vanilla cup she had brought under the promise that Lana made for her yesterday, as a reward for going on their outdoor exploits she would get some ice cream.
"Oh alright," Lana finally relented and handed her cup over to her sister with greatly annoyed shove, "Here. I bet you're so happy now."
"I certainly am, my dear sister." Lola tore off the plastic top, snagged the wooden spoon tapered underneath the lid and began to chow down. Lana had started eating and she was finished just as Lola had taken the last bite of ice cream, letting out a satisfied sigh as she tossed it onto her empty tray. She'd throw it out when she had to leave. Lola noticed that Lana was giving her a stink eye, probably because she wanted that ice cream more than her, but she had a deal. And Lola never forgot a deal.
"Oh don't you look at me like that Lana. You're the one who said that you'd treat me for ice cream, and you did. So stop giving me those eyes. You'll get crow's feet when you're older." Lola said, and Lana did in fact stop, going back to sipping her milk.
"You think everyone else is doing alright?" Lana suddenly asked as the thought crossed her mind. Lola, with some trepidation, merely shrugged.
"Eh, I'm sure they're doing fine."
...
Over at the high school, Lori was doing better than fine. In fact, if it hadn't been for Lincoln's little speech in the van earlier, she might have completely forgotten that she had superpowers. Chatting away with her friends for so long, like they hadn't seen each other in ages, had drowned out the fact that she could turn herself into a giant as she wandered the hall with Carol by her side.
"So you guys went out for a hike last night? That sounds wonderful! We oughta do that someday, especially now that the warmer weather's finally started to set in." Carol said, gushing with joy after hearing about how Lori spent her afternoon. The eldest Loud sibling left out some few minor details, of course. Telling her friend she could match a house in height would only spell trouble.
"It was such a nice evening yesterday, Carol. The view I had of the sunset was literally perfect." Lori responded, keeping it simple and realistic enough for Carol to believe in.
"Aw man, I can't believe I missed out. Pictures of the sunset get so many likes, its not even funny."
Their little reunion was interrupted by the school bell ringing above their heads, signaling the last class of the day. Despite everything going very well for Lori, she could not wait to leave school. Just one more class and she was out of here straight back home to hang around.
"I'll catch you later, Lori! See ya!" Carol waved as she left for her class.
"See you, Carol. Have fun in geometry!"
"Ugh, don't even get me started!" Her fellow blonde let out a groan, and Lori let out a short laugh as the two parted ways. Before she went to class, Lori decided to take a quick trip to the lady's room just so she wouldn't feel distracted. Once she arrived at the bathroom Lori felt her phone buzz with an incoming text. The moment she felt her phone go off Lori couldn't help but feel a sinking sense of dread build up in her stomach, wondering if it was heralding some bad news. That ringing she heard was for the sibling group chat. She hastily pulled out her phone from her shorts pocket to see who it was and what sort of emergency it may be, but much to her relief she saw that it was just Leni who sent a text.
leni: hi everyone! how r u!
Soon enough she was getting responses from her other siblings.
Luan: I'm doing good. Keeping myself from porting LOL
Moonfish: Hanging w/ tha crew!
Sam says hi!
Lincoln: same here. I'm ok. Field trip this Wednesday WOOT WOOT!
LYNN: Doing good! Can't wait for practice!
The moment she realized her fears were for nothing, Lori let out a quick, relaxed huff from her nose as she saw more texts coming from her siblings talking about their day. None of the messages rose any sort of alarm, and for a moment it felt like there was nothing to worry about. A sense of comfort and ease filled Lori's body, knowing that her family was doing well in these trying times for the Loud children, with them all having superpowers. Yet they still remained strong, and she couldn't be more happy. She quickly typed out a text and sent it.
Lori: That's literally great, you guys! Glad to hear you're all doing fine!
Lincoln: :)
leni: Thnx lori!
As she walked out of the bathroom back to class, Lori learned that if today was any indication, it was that she and her sisters and brother were going to be okay, and life would continue on normally.
For now...
