"Don't worry, you said. I know what I'm doing, you said. I'm sure we'll find her before the day is out, you said." said Kurama leaning his head on his paw, looking very bored.
"I know! I know! Stop rubbing it in!" exclaimed Naruto angrily.
After his conversation with the spirit, Naruto started going from rooftop to rooftop, looking for the Avatar. For hours, he had been going from place to place, staying on top of buildings and out of sight of the blimps to avoid attracting attention, but so far, he hadn't found anything and the sun was setting, ushering in the night.
"Finding a single person among many is quite tricky." thought Naruto jumping to another rooftop.
"You know I can detect her, right?" asked Kurama, causing the ninja to suddenly stand still.
"What?" asked Naruto.
"Remember I felt her right after I first came to this world, so I could feel her again." said Kurama.
Naruto stood still, slow to comprehend what he had just heard.
"Why the hell didn't you say so before?!" yelled Naruto very angrily.
"I wanted to see until when you were going to figure it out on your own, but I got bored of waiting." said Kurama, receiving a death glare from the ninja along with an angry growl.
"If it wasn't because you're part of me and you're 100 times bigger than me, I'd kill you with my hands." thought Naruto very angrily.
"Ha. Try if you can, brat. Anyway, the Avatar is in that direction and she's not far from where we are." said Kurama pointing in a direction.
"Fine, but we'll talk about this another time." thought Naruto before heading in that direction, hoping to find the Avatar.
After a while, Naruto was getting closer and closer to his destination.
"Is it much farther?" asked Naruto.
"No. We should be..." started Kurama.
Suddenly, Naruto stopped as he felt the ground shake.
"W-what was that?" asked Naruto.
"Naruto, look to your side." said Kurama.
Naruto walked to the edge of the building he was on and looked down to see Korra and Asami falling into the men's trap.
"What's going on down there?" asked Naruto.
"Looks like those guys have caught those two women. Are you going to do something?" asked Kurama.
"No. I want to see how the people of this world fight. If things get messy, I will intervene." said Naruto sitting on the edge of the building to observe the situation.
For the next while, Naruto was watching the fight between the two women and the armored men.
"I must say that those benders are not that different from ninjas." said Naruto.
"Yeah, but I think you should take more notice of that short haired woman. I can't be the only one who noticed." said Kurama.
"You're right. That woman has used all four elements. Without a doubt, she must be Avatar Korra." said Naruto recognizing the person he was looking for. "But why doesn't the other woman use some element to fight?" asked Naruto turning his gaze to the engineer.
"Maybe it's just that she's not a bender and fights with her own fighting techniques." said Kurama.
"Ah, like Rock Lee and the master intense brows." said Naruto remembering the two ninjas who only used fighting techniques.
It was then, when the two noticed something interesting.
"Those benders have a lot of stamina." said Naruto.
"I have a suspicion that that stuff they injected earlier has something to do with it." said Kurama remembering that the men injected themselves with an unknown liquid before the fight.
"Yeah, I have it too." said Naruto with his suspicions.
Soon after, the men caught Asami on the ground.
"Aren't you going to intervene?" asked Kurama.
"Not yet. Let's see what the Avatar does now." said Naruto.
Naruto stood and watched as Korra continued to fight hard against the men, but her stamina and strength was greater than he thought and she ended up falling. Soon after, she was caught and the men looked like they were about to finish them off.
"Now?" asked Kurama.
"Now." began Naruto before standing up and crossing his arms. "Ey!" shouted Naruto getting everyone's attention. "Mind if I join the party?" asked Naruto with a smile.
On the one hand, Korra and Asami were relieved that someone came to their rescue, but on the other hand, they didn't know who that person was or whether he was friend or foe.
"I don't know who you are, but stay out of this matter." said the pursuer.
"I'm sorry, but after seeing what you were planning to do, I don't intend to stand still. I will stop all of you." declared Naruto pointing at the men.
"Hehehe. You're going to stop us? You're outnumbered and out-strength. How do you plan to stop us?" asked the pursuer taking it as a joke.
Naruto gave them a toothy grin before gesturing with his hands, causing explosions of smoke to happen all around the edge of the building. By the time the smoke cleared, several of Naruto's clones could be seen with the same grin.
"This way!" said Naruto and all of his clones in unison.
Everyone below stood with their mouths and eyes wide from shock.
Naruto and his clones let out a battle cry as some of them dove downwards while others ran along the wall before jumping into the earthen prison.
The pursuer had to snap out of his shock when he saw the current situation and turned his gaze to the men.
"Don't just stand there! Stop them all!" ordered the pursuer causing all the men to rush into battle.
One man lunged toward three Naruto clones and attempted to impale them with a trail of emerging stalactites, but the clones quickly dodged him before diving to kick him.
Another man lifted several rocks before hurling them toward four incoming clones. While three of them managed to dodge them, one clone was hit by the rocks and disappeared in a burst of smoke, much to the man's confusion, which the clones took advantage of to hit him.
One clone engaged in hand-to-hand combat with one of the men and every time the man tried to hit the clone, he easily dodged or blocked any attack. But then, the man saw an opening and pulled out a hidden knife with which he stabbed the clone. He hoped he had finished off his opponent, but suddenly, the clone disappeared in a burst of smoke, leaving him totally confused and open for another clone to come up behind him and give him an axe kick.
Korra and Asami stood where they were, watching in amazement and disbelief what was happening before their eyes. Recently, they had fallen into a trap set by some unknown earthbenders. They fought hard against them, but it seems that the liquid they injected earlier had done something to them and in the end, the two of them were defeated and at their mercy.
However, when they thought they had lost everything, a mysterious boy appeared out of nowhere ready to save them, but what they would never have imagined is that this boy had the ability to create copies of them out of nothing.
You would think it was an illusion, but those copies could hit like a real person and when one were hit, he disappeared.
Never in their lives or, in Korra's case, in their many lives, had they ever seen anything like it.
But there was something Korra had noticed that Asami didn't. That boy… he gave off the same feeling she felt that morning. He was the dark spirit they had been searching for all day, and now that 'dark spirit' was saving them. Who was this boy really? Where did that feeling come from? Why did he feel like he was someone similar to her? Several questions were crossing the Avatar's mind and she guessed he would be the one to answer them.
"W-who is that boy?" asked Asami.
"I don't know, but I have to admit he's impressive." said Korra.
"Oh, thank you for the compliment."
The two women startled before turning their heads back to see Naruto looking at them with a smile.
Before they could ask anything, Naruto pulled a kunai from his pouch and used it to shatter the Avatar's earthen clamps and unearth the engineer, freeing them from their captivity and allowing them to stand up.
"Thank you." said Korra.
"You're welcome. Now if you'll excuse me..." began Naruto before disappearing in an explosion of smoke, revealing himself to be a clone, much to the surprise of the two women who quickly turned their gaze to the fight.
Another man slapped his palms, causing a pair of earthen walls to erect from the ground before slamming into each other, crushing several clones in the process, but then, a clone got underneath him and gave him an uppercut that sent him flying before receiving a side kick from another clone.
A Naruto clone lunged at a man intending to hit him, but the man raised a wall that blocked the blow and before the clone could react, the man caused spikes to erupt from the wall, impaling the clone and sending him disappearing in an explosion of smoke. Knowing what could happen, he raised a spiked wall behind him, but another clone foresaw that and jumped over the wall before punching him in the head sending him crashing to the ground.
The last man standing set about continuously throwing discs of dirt around him, hitting any clone that came near him, though most of the clones were able to dodge the attacks. Suddenly, one of the clones caught an earth disk and threw it back like an Olympic player, hitting the man in the process and before he could get up, a couple of clones hit him several times until he was knocked down.
The pursuer couldn't believe what was happening right under his nose. Although they were few against the Avatar herself and her girlfriend, the serum they had injected had given them enough strength to defeat and finish them off. However, just when they thought they had victory in hand, that strange boy appeared with an uncanny ability to make copies with which he defeated all their men easily.
As much as I wanted to find out more about that boy, I was more focused on the rage I felt towards him.
"That's enough!" shouted the pursuer sending out a huge earth wave that shook the ground like a carpet.
Korra used her own earthbending to stop the wave from hitting her and Asami. Meanwhile, the rest of the clones noticed the incoming wave and were held in place by the chakra in their feet before turning their gaze towards the pursuer.
"Stop hiding among those copies and fight for real!" exclaimed the pursuer angrily.
"Is that what you want?" asked Naruto before all the clones disappeared in bursts of smoke and when it dissipated, only the blond ninja was visible. "Well you're going to get it."
"I really don't know how they did all that, but you're going to pay for meddling in my plans, monster!" said the pursuer.
"You know? You're not the first person to call me 'monster'." said Naruto with a grin.
The pursuer let out a growl before lifting huge rocks from the ground and hurling them towards the ninja. Naruto jumped towards an incoming rock and, adding chakra to his feet, walked on the rock as if it were solid ground before hopping from rock to rock until he launched himself towards the pursuer, who quickly erected a pillar that hit the ninja.
Naruto rolled a bit on the ground before quickly getting up and running at full speed towards his opponent. The pursuer tried to stop him by causing walls of dirt to spring up in his path, but Naruto was able to dive to the side to avoid hitting those walls. When he caught up to the pursuer, Naruto punched him hard in the face followed by a side kick that sent him backwards, but he got up soon after.
The pursuer caused a pillar to stand up underneath the ninja, sending him flying into the air. Before he could do the same thing he did to the Avatar, Naruto had a clone of himself appear at his side, grab him and throw him back to the ground, straight towards the pursuer, who jumped backwards to dodge a punch from the ninja.
The pursuer proceeded to pull several large stalactites from the ground which he then threw towards the ninja, who jumped towards the wall to dodge them, ran along it until he reached the pursuer and jumped towards him and kicked him in the face which knocked him down.
"Why don't you just give up already? It's obvious you don't stand a chance." said Naruto wanting to end the fight.
"Never! He'd be angry if I gave up so easily, but once I'm done with you and the Avatar, he'll be happy for me!" declared the pursuer.
"He? Who is he?" asked Naruto curiously.
The pursuer pulled out a hidden knife and charged with all his might towards the ninja and before he could react, the pursuer plunged the knife into his heart.
Korra and Asami were horrified to see that the real one had been stabbed.
Suddenly, however, Naruto disappeared in an explosion of smoke and was replaced by a piece of log, much to the shock of the three present.
"What?!" asked the pursuer in utter shock at the realization that he had been tricked.
"I wanted to end this easily." the pursuer turned to see Naruto creating a clone next to him. "But you leave me no choice." said Naruto extending his hand towards the clone with his palm facing up.
The clone went into tearing motions on top of the original's palm and then, much to everyone's surprise, a sphere of blue air and energy was forming in the ninja's hand.
"Korra, is that, by any chance...?" asked Asami.
"Yes, it's airbending." said Korra impressed, more questions arising in her mind about the person who had saved her and her girlfriend.
By the time the sphere was complete, the clone disappeared and Naruto charged towards the pursuer who was so shocked by it that he was paralyzed.
"Rasengan!" shouted Naruto slamming the sphere into the pursuer's stomach, who was thrown backwards while spinning as if in a whirlwind until he ended up hitting the earthen wall so hard that it left a crater. "Ha. That was a sucker."
"You just got lucky, since those guys weren't expecting someone like you, but I think you should focus on something else now." said Kurama.
It was then that Naruto remembered what he came to do in the first place and turned his head to see the Avatar and the engineer looking at him with surprised expressions.
"Oops. I'd forgotten about them." thought Naruto before turning towards them. "Are you two okay?" asked Naruto snapping the two women out of their shocked state.
"Yes, we are. Thanks to you." said Asami.
"It's nothing." said Naruto before turning his gaze to the Avatar. "You must be Avatar Korra, right?"
"Yes, I am. Why?" asked Korra.
"Because I had been looking for you for quite a while." said Naruto.
"More like all day and I could have found you sooner if I had thought a little harder." said Kurama, receiving a mental growl from the ninja.
Korra was becoming more and more confused about him. Wondering who he was and what he wanted from her.
"By the way, who are you?" asked Korra wanting to know her savior's name.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki." said Naruto introducing himself.
"Well, Naruto, may I know why you were looking for me?" asked Korra.
"Well..." began Naruto.
But suddenly, an explosion sounded from one side of the earthen barrier and from the smoke caused, several police vehicles came out from which some men got out, including an older woman with a scar on her face.
Recognizing the woman, Korra stepped forward to talk to her, leaving her girlfriend and the ninja behind.
"Hey, who are they?" asked Naruto whispering to the engineer.
"They're the city police force and that woman is the chief of police, Lin Beifong." explained Asami whispering to the ninja.
"Ah." said Naruto understanding that the police were something similar to the ANBU units of the village.
"Chief Beifong, what are you doing here?" asked Korra.
"We got calls of a fight happening in this part of city and we came here quickly. May I know what the hell happened?" asked Lin wanting answers.
For the next few minutes, Korra was explaining to the police chief that it all started with her and her girlfriend walking through the city when they noticed that someone was following them and when they cornered him, they ended up in a trap set by that pursuer and some men who were earthbenders.
What surprised the police chief the most was when she told how they were about to kill them until Naruto showed up and saved them with never seen before skills.
"And that's it." said Korra finishing the explanation.
"Alright. Guys, arrest all those men immediately." said Lin before the cops went to grab all the unconscious men, including the pursuer. "Your friend should come with us so we can question him."
"Wait. He said he was looking for me. Maybe I can get information from him if he comes with me." said Korra trying to keep them from arresting her rescuer.
Lin didn't want to accept that, but the Avatar had shown a good point.
"Agreed, but if a problem arises, it will be your responsibility and I expect you to tell me everything you learn from him." said Lin before leaving with the rest of her men.
Once they left the area, only the engineer, the jinchuriki and the Avatar, who approached the ninja after settling the whole matter, remained.
"Well, thank you very much for saving us." said Korra.
"You're welcome." said Naruto.
"How did you do that? I mean, you made copies of yourself that hit like the real thing and you made that sphere that hit the one who set us up. You have some amazing skills!" said Asami.
"Thanks and I must admit that you have good skills too when you fought them." said Naruto.
"Wait, did you see how we fought against them? Why didn't you come to help us before?" asked Korra.
"I wanted to see a little bit how you benders and non-benders of this place fought." said Naruto.
"What do you mean? You've never seen a bender before?" asked Asami.
"Where exactly are you from?" asked Korra.
"Well..." began Naruto scratching his cheek. "It's kind of a complicated and long story." said Naruto when suddenly his stomach let out a slight growl. "Hehe. Sorry. I didn't eat anything since this morning."
"In that case, why don't we go to my place? There we can talk quietly as well as eat some food." said Asami.
"I couldn't refuse such an offer." said Naruto before the three of them set off.
As they walked, Korra, on the one hand, couldn't help but be curious about Naruto and his strange abilities, but, on the other hand, she also couldn't help but think about that strange dark and powerful energy coming from the ninja.
In fact, now that they were close, hit felt almost like when her uncle merged with Vaatu. There was an instant when she thought he was an enemy or a monster, but that thought was removed when she remembered that he had saved them. If he really was a monster, he wouldn't have intervened at all and let them be killed.
She hoped that, at some point in the explanation, she would be able to find out more about that energy inside him.
After a while of walking, they arrived at the Sato mansion and, needless to say, Naruto was completely amazed by the building in front of him.
"Wow, that's a big house. Are you a noblewoman or something?" asked Naruto to the engineer, who chuckled.
"No. Just the head of an important company." said Asami before heading for the entrance.
It was then, when they noticed several people waiting and, getting closer, they could see that it was Mako, Bolin, Tenzin and his children, who noticed the arrival of the two women.
"Korra! Asami!" exclaimed Mako before running up to them and putting her hands on their shoulders. "Are you okay?"
"We're fine, but what are you doing here?" asked Korra.
"Lin communicated to us what had happened and we came here quickly." said Tenzin.
"What exactly happened?" asked Bolin.
"Some suspicious men set us up and almost had us at their mercy." said Korra.
"And how did you free yourselves?" asked Jinora.
"Well, we had some help." said Asami stepping aside so they all saw the ninja.
"Hello." said Naruto.
"Huh? Who are you?" asked Mako.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki." said Naruto.
"He was the one who saved us. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be here." said Korra.
"I see. In that case, I thank you for saving them." said Tenzin bowing in thanks.
"Bah, it's nothing, old man." said Naruto, receiving a slight scowl from the airbender.
Korra had to stifle a slight chuckle at the way the ninja had called her teacher of airbending.
"And how did he take down the attackers?" asked Bolin curiously.
"When he fought them, he used incredible skills we've never seen before." said Korra.
"Incredible techniques? Like what?" asked Meelo very curiously.
Naruto gave them all a toothy grin before gesturing with his hands, causing an explosion of smoke to erupt beside him and when the smoke cleared, a Naruto clone was revealed.
"Like this one." said the Naruto clone before high fiving the original and disappearing in an explosion of smoke.
Minus the two women, who had seen enough, the others had been left wide-eyed and open-mouthed, due to never having seen a technique like that before.
"That. Was. AWESOME!" exclaimed Ikki before getting very close to the ninja. "Was that copy for real? Can you do more? Do you have any other techniques as mind-blowing as that? Are you some kind of sorcerer?" asked Ikki quickly.
"Wow, wow, wow. Stop the cart. Slow down. Answering in order. Yes, yes, yes and no." said Naruto.
"So what exactly are you?" asked Jinora.
"Well, to start things off, I'm not from this world." said Naruto.
All went silent upon hearing the ninja's answer.
"What?" asked Korra surprised by that revelation and hoping to find out more about him.
