Chapter 25
Camille felt something warm, soft, solid and hard. Those were her first sensations. She opened her eyes and wanted to stretch her body but couldn't. She moved her face and got a shock to see Richard so close. She wanted to move back but her arms wouldn't leave him. "What?!" She uttered as she looked around and wanted to stand up.
"Calm down, you're okay." Richard whispered in the half-light. Even more fear coursed through his chest now that she was awake.
She could make out his form very clearly. "What the hell?!" Camille muttered as she looked down to find herself in his lap. What was this?! She couldn't move away from Richard? "I'm sorry." She uttered as she wanted to stand up immediately and distance herself from his close proximity.
"Camille!" Richard groaned pleadingly. "Would you... Please not move around too much!" He snapped through gritted teeth.
"What happened?" She tried to loosen her wrists but she felt the cold, hard metal of the cuffs cutting into her skin. When she moved again the sound of the handcuffs connecting with the cell bars told her enough; She was cuffed around the bars, not just around Richard. Getting out of this would be nearly impossible. But she wasn't going to give up anytime soon.
"Calm down please." Richard urged.
But she wasn't calm, how could she be?! Camille tried to loosen her wrists anyway.
"Don't bother, I've been trying that for hours."
"Hours?!" Camille barked surprised. "Has it been that long?! Where did she go?"
"To the party I think." Richard whispered tiredly.
"Alone?!" Camille uttered in shock. Did Kris have a dead wish? Or maybe she worked together with someone... She needed to get out of this immediately! She began to move avidly.
Richard groaned in horror. This was excrutiating. And she didn't listen. She just kept moving. Making it even harder for him to control his bodily reactions to her. "Stop wriggling!" He ordered.
"I'm just trying to get out of your lap." Camille snapped. "Maybe if I twist my body like this-"
"NO!" Richard uttered in desperation, but it was too late. He was too tired.
"I can-" She stopped talking when she felt something hard pressing against her leg. "O." She uttered. As she tried to sit back from his lap as far as possible. "Is that...?"
Richard face heated up immensely, he could disappear into the ground right now. "I told you not to move!" He blamed her angrily.
"Well, I didn't know..." She swallowed. "...How was I supposed to know that you-"
"-What do you think?!" Richard interrupted her heatedly. "I've been here for hours trying to control myself. You're in my lap for crying out loud!" He snapped. "You're a woman in my lap, do you think I'm made of stone?!"
"I didn't ask to be put here!" Camille defended angrily. She reined herself in immediately when she realized that it wasn't his fault either. "I'm sorry." She wanted to move away again but succeeded miserably and made things worse.
"Stop moving!" Richard snapped. "You're only making it worse!" What a nightmare!
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." She said quickly. "Richard, look at me." He didn't. "You don't have to be ashamed. It's okay."
"Yes, it's great." He mumbled sarcastically.
She sighed, heaving her chest against him unwillingly.
"Would you not do that?"
"What? Breathe?" Camille questioned annoyed as she looked at him.
"Push your-" He looked at her chest. "-against me."
"I need to breathe Richard."
"Just not so deep if you please."
"You want me to suffocate?" Camille snapped stubbornly.
"I want you to stay still for once." He snarled back.
"It's not my fault that you can't control yourself." Camille blamed him quickly.
"If you wriggle around in my lap it is! I told you not to move!"
"Well, I felt stiff and-" She stopped talking immediately, realizing that wasn't the right choice of words... She swallowed and looked away. "I thought you weren't attracted to me." She muttered obstinate as she raised her right eyebrow at him daringly, with a hint of stubborn anger that was built up from things he had said and yelled at her only days ago.
"What do you think?!" He growled.
This wasn't the moment to talk about this, or to blame him. He was already feeling awful about this. She shouldn't rub his nose in it. "I'm sorry. I'll try to move back a bit so you can have your space."
"Like that will help." He mumbled dissatisfied.
"It's the best I can do right now." Camille snapped shortly.
'You're right, I'm sorry. This is Kris's fault. That witch!" Richard groaned.
La Kaz
Catherine stared at the clean glass in front of her. It was strange. Or wasn't it? Something felt off. But what was it? She looked at the walls of her bar. There were still a few people, enjoying their drinks, laughing. Kris, her explanation from earlier... It had felt off. Why was that? Finding them together in Camille's bed had been surprising. Especially because Catherine knew they had a job to do.
And then Kris's whole explanation of it being some kind of ritual before they went to work, to calm Nick's nerves? And Nick liked being dominated? He didn't seem the type. And Kris didn't seem that type at all. But still, she'd seen the proof of it. She'd seen them on the bed together.
Catherine was an open-minded woman, everyone had to know for themselves what they wanted and longed for, as long as it was respectful and no one got hurt. But Kris didn't seem like the type that would just sleep with someone or do things like that without any other attachment with that person whatsoever. It had been quite clear to Catherine that there was tension between Nick and Kris. And she was almost sure that they liked each other, in deeper ways. And instead of admitting this to each other they fought a lot instead.
But going from that phase to suddenly the phase she found them in? No, it felt off.
Police station
"Camille, I'm so sorry. I'm so ashamed." Richard said softly. His voice was filled with regret.
"Richard stop apologizing. It's not your fault." Camille's simple reply came.
"It is, I should be able to-"
"-Let's not waste energy by discussing it. This is an awkward situation so we have to make the best of it. I know the male anatomy is difficult to rule so I'll not take it personally okay?" She felt him nod. And even though it was a bit dark in the station, she could still see his features. And even if she couldn't, she would have felt the waves of nervous and shame filled energy that were coming off of him. "Richard, I don't want you to feel ashamed. That's the way your body works, nothing to be ashamed of."
"It's just... So unprofessional..." He hated himself. How could he ever face her again?
"It's natural Richard. Don't worry about it." Her voice was soft, sweet and caring.
"I know, it's just... I wish I wouldn't have reacted like that and-"
"-It happens. It's less awkward if you just accept that." She sighed slightly and thought of a way to get Richard to calm down. "It's not a strange thing for me; I have seen that in other men you know." Maybe that would help to calm him.
"Yes er..." He looked up at her and then quickly away. It was difficult to look her right in her eyes when she was so extremely close. "Right... Yes... Of course... It's just... The situation... This isn't the situation.. I mean... It never is... I mean... With those other men that probably was... Because you wanted it... And now is not what you want...I mean. What I want. That it's NOT what I want." Why couldn't he just say clearly what he meant? Instead of stammering like a stupid school boy again?! Which only made things worse then they already were!
"I hear you loud and clear."
"I wouldn't want you to think that I think less of you. Because you're a woman." He told her quickly.
"I don't."
"I'm not a man who just wants to sleep around with you and only wants you for your beauty."
"You want me?" She asked surprised.
"No! I meant in general when a man... That when a man sees you and might want you just for your looks I mean... That's not me I mean."
"Yes, you already told me very clearly how you aren't attracted to me." She answered with a hint of annoyance in her voice.
Did he hear disappointment? "I just meant that I value you very much and I'm appalled at this situation and I don't want you to think because I'm... Because my body... I'm... Arou-... My body is acting this way that I... Will look any different at you... It's just a natural reaction that's all."
"Thanks." She said when she was able to push away the hurt feeling in her chest. He meant well. His words were sweet. He wanted her to be at ease.
Richard felt her smile.
"You can be very nice." She said softly. "But don't worry, I'm more concerned with other things at the moment."
"Camille? Are you okay?" Richard asked when he thought he heard sadness in her voice. He wasn't good at reading emotions, but he had learned a bit about her and how she sounded and acted when she was hurt.
"Non, I'm not okay Richard. I'm very not okay." She shook her head. "I didn't see this coming. What kind of cop does that make me?" She asked hoarsely.
"Don't blame yourself. No one saw this coming. Nick didn't either and he knew her very well these past three years."
"Nick? What happened to him?" Camille asked with big eyes.
Richard shrugged. "I don't know, but he isn't here and Kris said she'd taken care of him a while ago."
"I have to get out." Camille said as she wriggled again.
"Camille!" Richard warned pleadingly. Not again please!
"I'm getting out of these cuffs, or do you want the Commissioner finding us like this?"
Richard shook his head quickly. That would make things even worse! If that was even possible!
"Okay, you still have some space between your back and the cell bars."
"Space?" Richard asked surrpised. What was she talking about?! There was no space! "Barely." He commented.
"We can use every centimeter." Camille pushed her hips against his.
"Camille- What are you doing?!" Richard uttered warningly.
"Calm down!" Camille ordered him.
"-Camille! Good Lord!"
She sighed annoyed as she looked at him, now wasn't the time to nag and be careful! They had a job to do! "I'm not going to sit around and do nothing. If I get Kris in my hands I'm going to rip off her head!"
"I agree but..."
"Let's just decide that what happens now is nothing sexual but just physically practical okay?"
Richard nodded slowly.
"And once we're free we'll forget all about this."
He nodded. That seemed like a very good idea.
