Sorrow and Kisses
"How could she do this to me?" He asked as he cried softly into her arms. She held him and stroked his hair lightly out of his face. "How could she just, tell me that we have AIDS… and then kill herself? I don't understand why she would do this to me… Is it because I'm an alcoholic? Mo, please, help me understand." His body shook as he wrapped his arms around her small body.
Marueen tried to quiet him as he broke into tears again. "It's okay Rog. She…" Maureen sighed slightly as she ran her fingers through his hair. "We all know April wasn't one for bad news."
"It still doesn't explain why she chose me." Roger sobbed slightly. Even though he wasn't making sense Maureen didn't correct him, or get him back on track. He needed to talk to somebody about this, and Maureen was the only person who would listen.
"She chose me, she got me started on drugs, and then when something bad happened, she left me." He pulled away from Maureen and hit the arm of the couch angrily. "Why! Why did you do this to me April? How am I supposed to be able to go on? I can't live by myself, without you, knowing that I don't have anyone who is going through the same thing as me."
He wiped his eyes angrily. "I mean, yeah Collins knows, but he doesn't know what it's like." He looked at Maureen. "I'm sorry." He whispered. "I just… I don't know what to do. I miss her so much. It's only been a week since she's been gone, but I still keep hoping that this is a bad dream."
"It's alright," Maureen said softly. "I can't imagine what you're going through. But I'm here for you, don't ever forget that."
Roger smiled slightly through his tears and pushed Maureen back slightly so that she was lying down on the couch. He then lay beside her slightly as rested his head on her chest. He listened to her small breaths and grabbed her hand lightly, intertwining his fingers with hers.
Maureen smiled, and with her free hand she played with his hair.
They lay like that for hours it seemed, before finally Roger sat up and looked at her. "You have no idea how much you've helped me today Mo." When he said this Maureen blushed deeply.
Roger looked at her for a time; he stared into her green eyes as he slowly lifted his hand to move some hair from her neck. His fingers traced her collarbone and then slowly moved to her jaw line. He looked at her for a time, before slowly leaning forward and kissing her lightly.
Maureen was a bit shocked at first, but didn't hesitate to kiss him back.
He pulled away just when the kiss was becoming more intense. "I'm sorry." He muttered as he looked away.
Maureen ran her fingers down his cheek and smiled at him. "Don't be."
And she pressed her lips against his again.
