Kuvira left Bataar's office feeling much better about the so called situationship on their hands. She still wasn't quite sure how to go about it from there but she was confident in her ability to figure it out. All she knew was that she had Bataar's approval and that was enough for her.

Kuvira merrily made her way from Bataar's office to Suyin's relatively quickly. After knocking sharply on the door, she took a deep breath.

"Have this conversation with Suyin. It's what you've always wanted. Now you finally have your chance to be with her," she thought to herself. She quickly straightened up her appearance as rapid footsteps marched towards the door. Kuvira was greeted with the warm and welcoming smile she had grown to know and love. Her favorite smile.

"I assume the Captain of my royal guard showing up at my door means you have something to tell me?" Suyin prodded with a grin. "Come in Kuvira," she said before opening the doors wider so that both women could fit through. Kuvira made her way to the couch and sat down.

"I just came from Bataar's office," the younger woman said in a quiet tone. Suyin, all too eager, was practically sitting in Kuvira's lap. Her hands went to her captain's face as she stared lovingly into her eyes.

"And?" The older woman asked. It probably wouldn't take much to be able to tell how the conversation with her husband had went but she still wished to hear about it all from her lover.

"I had only one question for him. I asked him how he felt about me," Kuvira replied. Her words made Suyin's heart sink as the younger woman kept a pretty emotionless look for most conversations.

Suyin knew how her husband felt about Kuvira already, and she knew it had never been her place to tell her young protégé. Unsure of how the conversation had gone, she dropped her hands to fiddle with Kuvira's instead.

"What was his response?" Was Suyin's only question. If he hadn't been completely honest with Kuvira, Suyin did not want to be the one to tell her. It was his feelings to tell.

"He told me that I make you happy...and that as long as you're happy, he's happy with me being around. He said he's been around for your highs and lows and he wants me to be as well," she replied as a small smile appeared on her face. "I told him that I would always be around if it made you happy. I'll be around for as long as you'll have me." The smile that adorned her face turned into a slow blush as her eyes finally met Suyin's for the first time during the entire conversation. Suyin reached out to grab her lovers face once more before placing a gentle kiss on her dry lips.

"Now tell me, what does this mean for us?" The older woman asked. "You know what I want. Now it's up for you to decide." Kuvira pursed her lips and thought for a moment. Was this what she truly wanted? Would this make them both happy? Or would either one of them regret it down the road?

"You don't think you would regret it?" The younger woman asked tentatively. Her mentor smiled as she moved closer to place a loving kiss on Kuvira's cheek.

"Kuvira, this is all I've ever wanted. In my mind even if this were to end for whatever reason, I wouldn't regret a second of it," she replied. She knew what she wanted. And what she wanted, was Kuvira.

"Then I think we have our answer don't we?" Kuvira asked, sucking in a deep breath to calm her nerves. "I'd like to be in a relationship with you Suyin. I want to be your partner."

That warm and loving smile she had always known came back as it spread rapidly across her lovers face. Suyin's arms found Kuvira's neck as she pulled her in for a deep and loving kiss. All was as it should've been between the two lovebirds. Suyin finally had her missing puzzle piece.

One month later

The city of Zaofu seemed to buzz with excitement. All in the city were ecstatic that Wing and Wei had accomplished so much and of course no one would ever turn down a celebration. The party was to be held in the Beifong compound later that night and Kuvira was nothing more than a nervous wreck. She sat on her bed staring into her closet wondering what outfit could've been appropriate for the twins big night. Suddenly, in the midst of her worrying, two slender hands gently grabbed her waist. The sudden touch startled her a bit, but because she was certain of who the intruder was her worry soon faded.

She turned to stare directly into her mentors eyes, full of nothing but love and admiration.

"Stop worrying, Kuvira," the monarch said with a grin. "You could probably wear nothing and still be the prettiest woman there." The younger woman giggled as Suyin dipped her head down to place sloppy kisses all over her neck and collarbones.

"Well if you're there, my dear, I most certainly would not be able to outshine you," Kuvira replied. She knew Suyin better than that. At almost every event ever, all eyes were on Suyin. She was always the most beautiful woman in any room. Still though, her lovers cheesy comment earned nothing but an eye roll from Suyin.

"I think for once it would be nice to fade into the background," the older woman said. Kuvira's eyebrows furrowed in response.

"And why is that?"

"Because if I fade into the background...that means I'll be able to sneak away with you and take you wherever I want," she replied with a mischievous grin. The very lewd comment caused her partner to blush uncontrollably and the sight drew a laugh out of Suyin. "You don't have to worry though. I promise I'll be on my best behavior, mostly just because I planned the damn thing."

A sharp knock on the door pulled the two women out of their playful manor. Kuvira got up and opened the door slowly. Behind it stood Bataar.

"Hello Kuvira. So sorry to interrupt you, but some of the caterers are requesting Suyin's presence in the dining hall. Some sort of mixup has occurred and they're wanting her to sort it out," he said to her in a very apologetic tone. Kuvira turned to shout to the woman in her bedroom but it seems Suyin had already predicted this as she was already right behind her.

"I suppose it's only fair as the planner of this party that I go sort this out." Suyin turned to place a loving kiss on Kuvira's lips. "Figure out what you're going to wear tonight and I'll see you tonight, dear." Then she turned to Bataar and kissed him in the same way she kissed Kuvira. The jealousy still hit the younger woman sometimes but she knew it would just have to be one of those things she was going to have to get over. Bataar was her husband and he always would be, but that didn't mean that she meant less to Suyin. She just had to keep telling herself that. "Alright well I suppose I should go. Don't go getting into any trouble you two!" Suyin said with a grin as she left the presence of her two partners.

And there stood Kuvira and Bataar, just as awkward as ever. It hadn't always been awkward between them. But it hadn't always been amicable between them either. Growing up Kuvira had always gotten the short end of the stick. Her family abandoned her (albeit with rich strangers who did try to provide the best care they could) and for many years she felt nothing but resentment and anger towards anyone and anything. She would frequently take her rage out on the kids around her and her guardians. More than once had she gotten into it with Bataar as a teenager. He wasn't one to raise his voice or hit but growing up, it's almost like that's what she was trying to get him to do. It was almost as if she was trying desperately to feel anything, whether it be good or bad. Now as the years had matured them both and also mellowed out Kuvira the only thing left between the two was...awkwardness.

"Do you, uh, know what you're going to wear tonight?" Bataar asked after a moment. Kuvira sucked in a deep breath and said,

"I'm not quite sure. I hardly doubt anyone would pay any attention to me, all attention will be on the twins so there's no need for me to get really dressy." Bataar furrowed his brow at her remark.

"True, tonight is for the twins, but I think it would mean a lot to Suyin if you did dress up nicely. Act like you're going to a wedding!" He replied, laughing a bit towards the end. "If you want I could, erh, assist you in choosing what to wear?" The kind gesture surprised Kuvira just a little bit but after a moment of deliberation she decided to take him up on the offer. Of course she would do anything to impress Suyin and who would know her likes and dislikes best other than her own husband?

"I would actually appreciate the help, Bataar," she replied. Calling him by just his first name still felt odd but it was just one of those things to get over. She opened her front door and gestured him inside. Once they were both behind the closed door she showed him to her closet. "I don't have much, but this is what I do have."

He stood there for a moment just contemplating what to do before rummaging through the closet. After a moment or two he pulled out a lighter colored long sleeved button up shirt.

"Try this on for me. I know you aren't big into dresses so we should probably go with a more masculine look that compliments your general style," he said as he handed Kuvira the green shirt. She stood there for a second, embarrassed because he had asked her to try it on. "It's okay, you can wait to put it on until I've found some other things to go with it," he said, almost as if he had read her mind. Relieved, she sat on the bed as he continued his rummaging.

On the second go, Bataar pulled out a light grey vest riddled with small, intricate gold designs. And on the third, some basic darker grey dress pants that were more form fitting than their regular attire. Once he had given her the components of the outfit he shooed her into the bathroom to get dressed. After what seemed like forever, she emerged from the small room. Bataar was absolutely taken aback by the woman coming out of the bathroom.

"What do you think? Does it look okay?" she asked, as he tried to gather any words to say.

"Y-you look stunning! I think you might even look better than me tonight!" He exclaimed. He stood there staring at her like a dog just seeing meat for the first time in his life. Kuvira wasn't sure how to feel about his expression but nonetheless, the attention made her a bit nervous and caused a light blush to creep across her face. A few seconds went by and Bataar managed to snap out of his trance. "One last thing Kuvira...wear these shoes," he said as he handed her a pair of dark green and gold dress shoes. "And if I may offer one more suggestion...wear your hair up tonight. But use this if you do in fact decide to do so." He held out his hand to the woman in front of him. In it was a gold hair pin that somewhat resembled some sort of family heirloom she had seen in her childhood. Without another word spoken between the two, he left and Kuvira was once again alone.

She sat down on the bed and stared at the heirloom in her hand. Why had he given it to her? What had he stated at her that way? What did any of it mean? The unanswered questions rattled around in her head as she flopped onto her bed thinking about how that night could possibly end up going. Even with all of the thinking she was doing, she could not prepare herself for the night that was in store for them all.
