The impromptu meeting ends when Astra, Spooner, and Gideon departed from the area. Zari memorizes the successive order in their "vacation". Thankfully, her eidetic memory makes the task easier. She collects one glance at the board as if she captures a snapshot on her phone. Following this, she wipes the handwriting off. She then racks her brain about what food to serve and what games to play. When Zari has an idea, she immerses herself in the zone in bringing it to fruition. Using her own experiences as inspiration, she scribbles additional ideas on Post-It notes and coheres them on the board.
Astra and Spooner are chatting in the corridors about the sleepover. During the time, Astra is pacing back and forth in dissatisfaction and Spooner watches her with her back against the wall. "Out of the most... a sleepover? When do we enact something as average like that?"
"Come on, Astra. Our lives are bizarre, but we are not, more or less." Spooner stops her with a strong yet light grasp on her forearm. "Astra, escúchame. You can't let whatever happened with you and Behrad eat at you. This plan of Zari's... it can be the typical diversion you need." Astra shakes her head. Spooner doesn't comprehend because she has no time for romantic relationships. She has not mentioned any person who has captured her interest. If anything, she's right about one matter. She needs a distraction from any thought of Behrad or their argument.
Gideon, for her part, is an eager child on Christmas Day. The grin on her face feels real as it can be. She already envisioned the first sleepwear she can claim as her own. Up to now, she has worn anything on a loan from Astra or one of Gary's work shirts. She went to her quarters and retrieved a folded-up piece of paper from a book on the shelf. She scampers into the fabrication room and unfolds the paper. It is a sketch of a lavender Victorian-style nightdress. The sleeves are short and laced at the openings. She uploads her drawing through the tablet. As Gideon switches on the fabricator, Astra finds her and peeks inside. "What are you doing?"
Gideon turns around and glances at her maternal figure. "I was just creating my nightdress. Would you like to see it?"
"Really?" When her daughter figure guarantees this with a nod, she replies, "Okay." Astra walks in and sees the finished product, which is made with soft cotton and lace. Gideon has slowly removed it from the fabricator. "That is a pretty color. Did you choose this?"
"Yes, do you like it?" Gideon eyes at her "mother" with anticipation.
Astra's anger and troubles are cast aside after she notices the brightness in her daughter's face. She smiles at her, saying, "Yeah."
By 7:15pm, Zari is dressed in her ivory-colored satin pajamas. Astra wears a white tank top and matching boxer shorts. Spooner wears a mismatched T-Shirt and plaid pajama bottoms, and Gideon dons her nightgown. They adjusted the lab into a large sleeping area. The larger equipment is positioned against the wall, while the utensils are concealed in the cabinet. Four sleeping bags with white pillows are dispersed across the floor: a crimson red one for Zari, a black-and-white one for Astra, a forest green one for Spooner, and a medium gray one for Gideon. Three boxes of pizza and a 12-pack of root beer, cultivated from the food fabricator in the Galley, are placed on one table. The karaoke machine, which is sitting on another, is connected to the monitor.
They first did karaoke; Zari starts with a cover of "Queen" by Jessie J. She has embraced her role on the Waverider. Even though she has relinquished her totem to Nate at the time of his departure, she recognizes her other capabilities as equally significant. After her performance, the other girls applauded. Zari then hands the microphone to Spooner. "No way," she voiced, pushing it away.
"Come on, Spooner," Astra urged moderately. "It's one song."
"Look, I haven't sing anything in English or Spanish in a long time." Hearing her own words, Spooner slaps her hand against her face.
Astra and Zari are shocked to hear this. "Wait, you can sing in Spanish?" Spooner reluctantly nods her head.
"Oh, you are definitely doing this." Zari gives her the mic again.
Spooner, bothered by the insistency of her friends, snatches it from her hand. "Fine, fine. I'll do it. Just pick the song already." Zari did so with "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. After a faulty start, she actually sounds really good. Spooner has a contralto voice, according to Zari. "You three now know, and are the only people who will." She passes the mic to Astra, who sings Jordin Sparks's "Battlefield". The song choice is so obvious to them, they didn't have to say it.
Gideon is the last one. There were so many songs for her to choose. Astra advised, "Pick the one that stands out to you the most." Taking this sentence to heart, Gideon rummaged through the options on the screen until she spotted one song title, "Brave Enough". She thought to herself, "Why was I not this before he left this morning?"
Zari catches the sight of her solemn face and questions, "Gidget, are you okay?"
Gideon recollects her composure and shows her song selection to her. "I want to sing this, please."
"Lindsey Sterling featuring Christina Perri," Zari read. "All right, let me know when you're ready." She rests on Spooner's side of the couch as Gideon began singing. As she did, she thought of her relationship with Gary. One by one, memories of them together drop in her head. One particular memory is their dinner date... that fateful night. Gideon can hear Gary's high-pitched voice when he said "Just don't lie". Knowing she did that again agonizes her more with guilt.
Following this, they played Never Have I Ever. Before they commenced, Zari made one rule: "No questions on sex and relationships". Unknown to Gideon and Astra, she constructed this to prevent outing Spooner. Back when they were displaced from the ship, they started interacting with each other as Astra and Behrad were getting close. While they played a game of "Smash, Marry, Kill", Spooner revealed her lack of exhibiting sexual or romantic feelings for anyone. Zari indicated that she's asexual. That moment enhanced their becoming friends. So far, excluding Zari, none of the other Legends know about this.
Zari expressed, "Never have I ever met my doppelgänger." She and Gideon took a sip of soda. She questioned Astra and Spooner, "You two didn't meet your clones?"
Astra replied, "No."
Spooner recalled, "I saw mine being eaten by Robo-Gary, only for both of them to get blown up because she pulled a grenade. Guts and tentacles were flying." They all shudder at the flashback.
"That's pretty graphic. My turn, never have I ever been to a live concert," Astra declared. Gideon transpires as the one who didn't take a sip.
Gideon pitched, "Never have I ever... learned to speak more than one language." Spooner, Zari, and Astra sipped their soda.
Spooner spoke, "Never have I ever... thought about getting a tattoo." She and Zari took another sip.
Astra offered, "Never have I ever... cried watching a movie." She and Zari took a sip. "Okay, what movie was it for you?"
"There was an old Bollywood movie I saw. I forgot what it's called, but the ending always had me in tears," Zari admitted. "How about you, Astra?"
"I was 8. My mom—my real mom—and I saw this movie called The Croods. The scene that had me crying... was the tar pit scene... and how Guy lost his parents." She swallows a lump in her throat when she divulged this. She tearfully chuckled, "Who would've thought that I'd lost my own the following year?" Spooner rubs her back and Gideon, who was sitting beside her mom, hugs her.
A sympathetic Zari expressed, "We should call this a night." The others agreed with this. After Astra starts feeling better, they store the leftover pizza in the fridge and clean up the clutter. They then separate in pairs for the bathrooms, one on the ship and the other in the pocket dimension. While Spooner and Zari went to the latter, Gideon waited for Astra in the former. As she withdrew from the bathroom, she goes inside without saying anything.
That night, everyone is soundly asleep in their sleeping bags. Gideon tosses and turns in hers. She hears familiar music echoing in her ears.
Her eyes opened. She looked at herself in a mirror. Her hair in an updo, her lips painted in rouge. She is wearing the same red dress. Instantly, she went to the bridge. He is not there. AI Gideon appears over the console behind her. She asked, "Where's Gary?"
"He's on his way out," the AI coolly responded.
Gideon shakes her head and rushes to the cargo bay. Gary is on the other side. Dressed in his suit with a red bowtie, he is frantic. "Gary!"
"Gideon, she told me you're here."
She tried to open the door, but the system is locked. She called, "Gideon, open the door."
"I cannot do that," Computer Gideon heartlessly responded. "He is a distraction from your mission at hand. Therefore, he has to go."
"Gideon, help me," Gary called.
"He's not a distraction, he is my boyfriend. Think about what you're doing," Gideon proclaimed. "As the captain of this ship, I command you to stand down and open the door."
"Very well," Computer Gideon declared. The couple sigh with relief. Seconds later, she callously asserted, "Goodbye, Mr. Green." She opens the door hatch, sending him flying out of the cargo bay.
"Gideon!"
"No!"
Computer Gideon slowly closes the door hatch. Gideon looks on through the bay door helplessly.
Gideon woke up in tears. She glanced at the others, who are still sleeping. She heads to the bathroom to rinse her face with water. She studied herself in the mirror. Her face is puffy and pink from crying. She breathes for ten minutes. "It was just a bad dream," she verbalized to herself. "A haunting experience from my unconscious mind." Once she can confirm that her nerves are soothed, she returns to the lab and finally goes to sleep.
