CHAPTER 4
(SOOKIE'S P.O.V)
I watched Tara jog out of sight, as I tried to process her unexpected reaction. I was well aware that Tara had commitment issues when it came to relationships, especially after she lost Eggs. Eggs however seemed to make Tara happy, and made her look towards the future in a positive way.
Or so I thought…
After revealing to Eggs all the horrible things Maryann made him do, I realized that Eggs would never be the same mentally and emotionally. Which meant the happy ending Tara wanted with Eggs so badly, was out of reach, even before he was killed. A part of me always felt guilty for revealing too much to Eggs. After all, I wanted my best friend to experience the same kind of happiness, and intimacy like Bill and I had. Which is why I was hoping she found that with Mario. I was very well aware that they were currently friends, but I hoped it would lead up to them ending up together. I didn't know Mario very well, but my instincts were telling me he was a pretty decent guy who seemed to like Tara as well.
"Hey Sookie," Mario greeted me, as I stood up now. "Do you know where Tara ran off to?." He inquired looking in the direction Tara went. "She ran off to get ready to take up her shift at the Merlotte's Bar," I said, lying through my teeth, and praying to God that he didn't follow Tara to the bar. There was a moment of silence between us, so I decided to take the opportunity to read his thoughts. 'Damn I wonder what I did to scare Tara off?' he thought. 'She's been avoiding me ever since…' "So how do you like Bon Temp so far?," I suddenly asked. "Great," he grinned at me. "Love the food, the music is different from what I'm accustomed to, but I can work with it." "Happy to hear," I smiled back. "And I see you and Bill are getting along as neighbors," I pointed out as well. "He has nothing but good things to say about you." I admitted.
"Bill's the homie," he replied. "I'll admit I've never had a friendship with a vampire before. Back in LA I had to work with them on a professional level, however I like what Bill and I got going on. Uh Sookie…" Mario said, staring at the second tennis racket on the ground. "Oh yeah," I said looking at it too. "Tara forgot her racket." "Do you mind if I take it to her?." He asked me picking the racket up. "No problem at all."
