CHAPTER 9
(MARIO'S P.O.V)
"Checkmate," Russell announced triumphantly, as I silently watched Bill and Russell play a game of chess. As the sun rises, I couldn't help but think that this was one of the most interesting nights I've had in Bon Temp so far. Bill who continued to play silently, while having a blank look on his face, seemed to be lowkey nervous right now. To be honest I didn't blame him. Even I could sense that Russell was dangerous. Russell is definitely a narcissistic psychopath, who thinks Bill, and the rest of us in Bon Temp are his playthings. Which is why I couldn't understand why Bill would take the position of vampire king, knowing he would be dealing with freaks like Russell.
"The time has come Bill," Russell stated, as he stood with a victorious grin on his face. "I want you and Mario, preferably Mario, since he wouldn't be destroyed by the sun to watch me walk out into greatness." We did as we were told, as we watched Russell saunter towards the front door. He opened the front door, as the sunlight flooded into the passageway only. However Russell stood parallel to the sunlight, as he paused for a couple of minutes, baring his fangs, at his ancient enemy. I could see he was physically struggling to step into the sunlight, probably afraid that the medallion wouldn't work.
With baby steps he gradually stepped out onto the porch. "What's he doing?" Bill inquired standing next to me but couldn't look out the window himself for fear the sunlight would burn him. "He's taking deep breaths eyes closed, enjoying the fucking sunlight." I mumbled. Suddenly Russell began sprinting up and down Bill's yard shouting for joy. Bill, who could clearly hear Russell's shouts of joy, took the opportunity to use his inhuman speed to close the front door and lock it. I said nothing, and continued to stare at the overjoyed lunatic outside. "This is fucking incredible!," I heard Russell exclaim. "Three thousand years i have waited for this moment, and now I hold the keys to reigning forever!."At that exact moment Russell paused in confusion, as he suddenly exploded into a million pieces. I quickly closed the window, in time to see chunks of Russell splattered all over the window.
I closed the curtain, as I began to laugh, while I patted Bill's shoulder in relief. "Mario what's going on?," Bill inquiries clearly confused at my reaction. I finally stopped laughing and turned to Bill. "Our problems are over Bill. I'm really sorry you couldn't see it, but take a look at the window." I stated with drawing the curtain a bit. Bill's eyes widened in shock, when he saw chunks of flesh all over his window. "Ok look," I quickly explained. "When I told you I met a Clurichaun last night in my wine cellar, who had the medallion, what I didn't say was that he had two identical medallions around its neck." "Why two?." Bill questioned. "I wondered the same thing, so I asked the Clurichaun. It explained that when he stole the medallion, they sent two to Russell. Meaning one was a fake decoy, and one would be the real thing. I made sure to let the Clurichaun distinguish the real from the fake, as I cleverly gave Russell the fake one." I then pulled out the real one, and threw it to Bill. "Seems like Russell didn't know about a fake, which led to his pathetic demise." Bill stared at the medallion in silence for a moment. After a couple of minutes he put it on. "Thank you Mario," Bill said to me genuinely. "You're welcome man. How 'bout we try it out, and if it works as Russell thinks why don't we give the girls a visit. I know Sookie will be more than happy to see you." I suggested. Bill agreed as he cautiously headed to the front door.
