The last time Christopher LaSalle saw Sonja Percy was the night she left New Orleans. She was going to New York to work for the FBI. Now she was back, undercover with the Cambias family that had ties to the American Navy for recieving stolen weapons. Chris thought he had gone back in time when he saw Sonja, just before she pulled out a gun and shot him per orders from Sergio Cambias. Luckily he was vested and her shot hit the vest.
Now the bust was over and Sonja walked over to him.
"I think we need to talk. Do you maybe wanna come to my place for dinner?" Sonja asked. "The FBI is putting me up at the Marigny, penthouse suite."
"Penthouse? Nice. Yeah, I can come over tonight. Do you want me to bring anything?" Chris asked.
"Just you. How about 7pm?"
"Sounds good. I'll see ya then City Mouse."
"See ya then Country Mouse."
Sonja was a nervous wreck by the time LaSalle showed up at her door. This was the biggest conversation of their entire lives and she wasn't really sure how to start. She took one last deep breath before opening the door
"Hey, you made it."
"Yup. Grabbed a bottle of wine for ya. I know you like the red," Chris said handing her the bottle. As Sonja took it, Chris let himself in and shut the door behind home. That was when he saw the stroller by the door. He noticed the toys on the coffee table and the car seat by the couch.
"What's with all the baby stuff?" Chris asked and Sonja froze. She had kinda hoped he wouldn't notice right away. So she took a deep breath and faced him.
"Okay so I thought we really should talk. I mean we haven't talked since I left NCIS and the going away party at Pride's bar."
"Oh I remember the party at the bar. We drank so many beers that night," Chris said with a chuckle. He was slowly remembering what else had happened that night.
"I bet you're remembering everything else we did that night too," Sonja said, taking a step closer to him. Chris just looked at her, remembering how she had looked that night.
After leaving the bar, Chris hasn't wanted to let her go just yet. He asked her to take a drive with him, one that ended up back at his house. As they had sat in the moonlight on the back deck, he had taken her hand. All the feelings he felt for her came rushing back even though they had agreed not to pursue them.
Sonja has turned to him and her eyes sparkled in the moonlight. Chris couldn't help himself and slowly lowered his head down to her. That kiss had felt like magic between them and Sonja was wondering why she had been fighting it for so long.
They had barely made it inside the house before they were tearing at each other's clothes, getting lost in the passion they had been holding back.
Chris shook his head before he spoke. "What does that have to do with anything?"
"We has a great night, LaSalle and I wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world."
"It was pretty good for me too."
"Good cause we didn't really define anything. Whether it was a one time thing cause I was leaving or if it was the start of something but I didn't want to think about since I was leaving."
"What are you getting at Percy?"
"I found out shortly after arriving at the FBI field office in New York that I was, um well, pregnant."
Chris went silent as that word penetrated his head. Percy had been pregnant, she had baby stuff in her hotel room and they had made love before she left.
"Percy, what are you saying?"
"You got me pregnant, LaSalle."
"There's no way. We were careful."
"Not careful enough. And before you ask, I know 100% the baby is yours."
"There's no way. I can't believe you would joke about this after everything that happened with Melody and Tucker. She came to me, telling me Tucker was my son and he wasn't. Why would you do this?" Chris exploded as he walked away from Sonja and went to the window.
Sonja felt a little hurt by his reaction but knew he was completely justified. So she pulled an envelope out of the desk and walked over to him. He turned to face her and she handed it to him.
"You want to see proof? It's right here and if you think you can't trust Sebastian, then we have a problem."
Chris took the envelope and opened it. It was a DNA test and it said that he was 98.72% the father of Sonja's baby.
"When did Sebastian do this?"
"I had him take a glass from you and sent in the other sample. I had him test it and expedited the results. I wanted to have all the proof I could before I told you. But I got all the proof I needed when I looked into our baby's eyes. He has your eyes."
Chris's ears perked up. "It's a boy?"
"Yeah and he has your eyes and your nose. The minute I looked into those eyes, I saw you LaSalle. He is your son."
Chris didn't know what to say. He was a father, no doubt about it. The test proved it and Sonja said he had Chris's eyes. He had to see this baby.
"Can I see him?" Chris asked.
"Yeah, absolutely." Sonja went into the adjoining room and came back with a tiny bundle in her arms. She handed the baby to Chris and he peered at the tiny little boy wrapped in blue. He did have Chris's eyes.
"He's perfect," Chris whispered.
"Yeah he is."
"What's his name?"
"I wanted something that meant something for you. LaSalle, his name is Caden."
"Caden?"
"After your brother."
"You named our son after my brother?"
"Do you know how many times I wanted to pick up the phone and call you after I heard that Cade was murdered? He was your best friend, your closest ally and then he was just gone."
"I appreciate that. Not a day goes by that I don't think about Cade and his murder."
"I thought it was a nice way to pay tribute. This way you can help raise Caden to be the kind of man Cade was."
"So what now? Where do we go from here?" Chris asked.
"Isler has discharged me from the FBI. I'm gonna look for a place here in New Orleans for me and Caden. It's time that we come home, isn't it Country Mouse?" Sonja whispered to Caden. Chris just looked at her.
"You call him Country Mouse?"
"I started calling him that once I saw those eyes. Your eyes, LaSalle."
"Well you guys are welcome to stay with me. After all, Caden is my son and I want to be with him. Plus I'm sure King and the rest of the team would love to meet him."
"You never asked me about the rest of his name," Sonja said as she took Caden and laid him in his crib.
"What do you mean?" Chris asked.
"You asked about his first name, but not his whole name," Sonja said.
"What's his full name?" Chris asked.
"Caden Dwayne LaSalle."
"You named him after King? Why?"
"Pride is important to you and to me. If it weren't for Pride, Caden wouldn't be here. As far as his last name, he's your son so he should have your last name."
"I still don't know what to make of all this but I'm making a promise right here and right now. I promise I will do my best to be here for Caden and for you."
"You can't make that promise. It's not fair asking you to do that. You just found out about Caden."
"Doesn't matter. He's my son and I'll always do right by him and you."
"You don't have to do that. I mean, I'll never keep you from Caden but you don't have to worry about me. You know I can take care of myself," Sonja said.
"I know that. Things are different now though."
"Why?" Sonja asked.
"Because you've come back. Not just to New Orleans but you've come home. Not a day goes by that I don't wonder what things would've been like if we had given in a lot sooner. Not a day goes by that I don't wonder what could've happened if you had never left. You know the kind of man I've always been. Well I don't want to alarm you but damn it, I love you Sonja Percy."
Sonja just looked at Chris. He said it, he finally did. She knew she had felt strong feelings for him and she felt it in her bones that she loved him but he finally admitted his feelings.
Sonja stood close to him and reached her hands up his chest, firm muscles and broad shoulders, rippling under the cloth. Her hands slid up the back of his neck before gently tugging his head down to hers. He complied and once he felt her on his lips, all reason was lost.
Chris pushed her back against the wall, cupping her face and feasting against her lips. Sonja ran her hands up and down his back, fingernails lightly scratching through the fabric of his Henley.
His lips were on her neck, his fingers working the buttons on her shirt. Sonja sighed at the sensations and brought her fingers to his belt buckle. Hers were much quicker than his and she was just pulling at his zipper when Caden cried out. Sonja and Chris pulled back to look at each other, panting and regaining their breath.
"I better get him," Sonja said but Chris stopped her.
"Let me."
"Seriously?"
"I need to learn how, right?" Chris said flashing his signature smile. Sonja settled on the couch to watch Chris with their son.
"I have to tell you - watching a man take care of a baby is so sexy," Sonja practically purred at him.
"Glad to know you find me sexy," Chris said.
"Always have LaSalle and I always will."
"How would you feel about us taking Caden into the office tomorrow? I'd love for King to meet him," Chris said, settling on the couch with Sonja.
"Sure, I suppose it's time they all met. I'm actually surprised your not jumping up and down to call Pride and tell him that you're a daddy now."
"I suppose I can wait a little more than 30 minutes before I tell him. After all, I'm still getting used to it myself. But maybe this summer we can take Caden home to Alabama, let my mama meet him and see the family farm. Roll Tide," Chris said to Caden which made him giggle.
"Just what I always wanted - a couple of Bama boys," Sonja said as she settled into Chris's side. Together they sat together and cuddled their son until both Sonja and Caden were fast asleep. Chris gently put Caden in the crib before picking up Sonja and carrying her into the bedroom. He laid her on the bed and slid in beside her. Covering them both, Chris kissed her cheek.
"I love you City Mouse," Chris said in a sleepy voice as he drifted off to sleep with Sonja curled up in his arms.
