Sonja arrived back at the hotel and found Isler waiting in her room.
"Isler? What are you doing here?"
"I just got word you resigned? What the hell Percy?"
"Yeah I did, although I've told Pride and everyone else that you discharged me. I'm coming home to New Orleans. My life is here and I just didn't know it."
"What about everything we did to accommodate you? I personally arranged for a family to watch your son while you were undercover. I didn't have to do that. We made sure you had the best prenatal care and ensured the safest delivery possible. The agency bent over backwards for you and you're throwing it all away?"
"Isler, I appreciate everything you guys did but LaSalle is here and he deserves to know his son. My son deserves to know his father and the other family he has here. Caden is my world, you know that but I'm not about to make him suffer so that I can stay with the FBI. I need you to understand that."
Isler sighed and shook his head. "I do understand that. I just don't want to see such a promising young agent throw everything away by taking a chance that could end up leaving her devastated and alone with a baby."
"I've already talked to LaSalle. He's all in for whatever I choose to do. As far as a job, I'd love to come back to NCIS but that will be up to Pride. There's nothing in the official rules about interoffice dating but I have to put Caden first. This is his home."
"I do wish you the best of luck, Percy. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything."
"Thanks Isler."
Isler left and Sonja faced her son. "Mama is gonna take care of everything. We are never going to be alone again. How about I get us packed and then we go visit grandma while we wait for daddy to get home?"
Caden just laughed and Sonja set him on the play mat while she packed up their stuff. She called the front desk to ask for help with her luggage and they helped load everything into Chris's pickup. Then she fastened her son in and headed for her mom's house.
At the crime scene, Chris wasn't having much luck with Petty Officer Shell. It appeared the young sailor didn't know much. He thanked him for his time and went to meet Pride and Gregorio outside.
"Shell didn't seem to know much other than Watkins was looking into missing weapons. I don't think he has anything to do with the thefts."
"Same with Wallace. I don't think he had anything to do with it either," Gregorio said. "What did you get out of Wells and Kingman?"
"Both were forthcoming with information but it all seemed a little too convenient. Almost like they were placing the blame solely on Watkins. Kingman said that he noticed Watkins poking around late at night and supposedly witnessed him having a suspicious conversation with an unknown person three nights ago."
"Sounds like Kingman might be more involved than he let on," Chris said.
"I agree. Let's head back to the office, see if Patton has been able to dig up anything on Wells and Kingman," Pride said as he headed for his SUV. Chris and Gregorio followed.
Back at the office, Patton was working on the social footprints of Wells and Kingman. He was trading screens faster than the team had ever seen before. Pride didn't want to interrupt him and went to see Loretta instead. Before he left, he asked Chris and Gregorio to check out Watkins background and see if there were any surveillence cameras in the area of the weapons cache.
"Pride didn't seem all that angry about Percy and the baby," Gregorio said to Chris as she sat at her desk.
"I already told him I wasn't gonna let it interfere with my job. I'm still devoted to the team and my personal life is just that, personal."
"You know it would've been better if Percy was out there with us today?"
"I know. I'd love for her to come back but I don't know if King will go for it."
"Have you looked into the NCIS policies regarding interoffice dating?"
"Not yet but I bet Sonja already has. Maybe I should check in and see if she made it to the house okay," Chris said reaching for his cell.
"Didn't you just say that your relationship wouldn't interfere with the job?" Gregorio asked.
"Checking in is being polite. After all, she has my truck," Chris said with a chuckle as he waited for her to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Hey City Mouse."
"Hey."
"Did you make it to the house okay?"
"Haven't been there yet actually. We came to visit my mom for a little while."
"Has she met Caden before?"
"Not in person but she's seen him on video chat."
"Does she know about me?"
"She knows you're his father and that I didn't tell you right away about him. She knows I wanted to take my time and tell you the right way about Caden, to make sure that you wanted to be in his life."
"Nothing would keep me from him or you. I hope your mom knows that. I love you City Mouse."
"I love you too Country Mouse."
Chris hung up the phone and dived back into his files.
Meanwhile Sonja was hanging up while her mom held Caden.
"Was that Christopher?"
"Yeah."
"I assume he knows about Caden now."
"Yeah he does."
"Do you really love him, mija?"
"Yes mama, I do. I love Chris with all my heart. I've loved him for so long that I'm not sure I know how to love anybody else besides him and Caden."
"Have you told him that?"
"Not in so many words."
"Do you see a future with him?"
"Yes I do."
"Marriage and more kids?"
"Someday. I'm just happy being with him and Caden now."
"Mija, you need to make a decision about your future. You need to decide on a future for you and for Caden. You need to decide if that future is with Christopher. I know you would never keep him from Caden, you're much better than that, but if there is a future there, you need to decide if you want that future to be permanent."
"I know mama and I will make that decision. I just feel like I can't make that decision until Chris and I have a chance to talk more. We didn't have much time to talk last night and yeah he has asked us to move in with him, which we are, but I know he's been hurt in the past. He went through something awhile ago where a girl showed up with a baby in tow and he was told it was his child. Turns out he wasn't the baby's father, but that messed him up for a bit inside. I know he's devoted to Caden and he just met him."
"Do you think he will leave you Mija?"
"Never. He says he loves me."
"Then I will give you my blessings. You know that your sisters and I are always here for you and for Caden. Our home is always open to you both. I just want you and Caden to be happy. Nothing else matters. If you want a permanent future with Christopher, then maybe you need to be the one to make it so. I have found that my greatest joys have been as a wife and mother, now a grandmother. You're still young Sonja, but you're very level headed and you know how to take charge of your life. Don't be scared about what the future holds, Mija. You've got this."
"Thanks mama."
