I'm the love of your life - CH 02

How did you meet the love of your life? For Emily, it's nothing like what she could have imagined as first encounter, but she finds it memorable, unforgettable. She can even picture herself, retelling the story of how they meet during anniversaries, holidays. And, such a dream brings a big smile on her face, a lot of joy which is not well taken, by whom she consideres to be her other half.

"You dare to smile in a moment like this?!"

What Alison doesn't know it's that you try for so long, so hard to find the love of your life. The one and only who takes your breath away with nothing more than one look, that when it happens, you cannot stop smiling.

And, this unexpected encounter did more than take Emily's breath away. She lost consciousness too, because when Emily does nothing more than smile like a fool, already imagining how they will name their kids, well, something hits her face, really hard, the fist of a very pissed Alison.

"Holly shit! Ali, she's a friend!"

Yells Hanna when she rushes to see if her friend is still alive after that punch in the face. Toby finally approaches too, even Spencer seems concerned for the girl who's lying unconscious on the floor of that bar.

"Really?! I'm the one who got assaulted and all of you show more concern to my offender?"

Alison rolls her eyes and she doesn't need to be told twice to leave the place by the security of the bar. She's more than happy to leave by her own will. This is the first time she's been kicked out of a place and that's not all, if the girl she just knocked out decides to present charges, she might get into serious problems with the law. Great way to celebrate her birthday, Alison says to herself on her way back home.

She really hopes this will be the end of this. She hopes this will be nothing more than an awful memory of her 30th birthday and that she will never, ever! See that brunette again, but that's the thing, while she's dreaming to never meet Emily ever again, the brunette is hoping quite the opposite.

"C'mon, Hanna! Help me to meet her again!"

"You're really a masochist, you know that? Do you've a death wish or something like that?"

"Hanna, please!"

"From all the women in the world, why the hell would you fall for Alison?"

"Alison? Her name is Alison?"

The blonde rolls her eyes when Emily looks so happy to learn the name of her crush. Toby checks on her again, he's worried she really hit her head badly. After the awful night they spent last night in the ER because the brunette took hours to wake up, Emily's friends really don't understand how Emily is so eager to meet again the blonde who gave her a black eye. Toby and Hanna believe all Emily should do is to forget about this chick but that's the one thing she cannot do.

Alison is the personification of true beauty. Her eyes, her porcelain skin, her golden curls. Everything about her, it's perfect. She's perfect for Emily and that's why she has to meet her again. Now that she has met her, she cannot imagine a life without her.

Somehow, she has to find a way to meet Alison again. She has to because the first impression counts a lot, any girl who tells you differently, is lying. And the brunette knows that right now she has to improve her image in front of the blonde. Alison must know that she's not the kind of girl who's harassing women in bars. No, she cannot spend another minute, another second without redeeming her imagination in front of the blonde and that's how, a few hours later, she ends walking into the high school where her friend Hanna works.

The bell rings, the hallways get full of people, lots of noises, faces and then…

"Alison… oh, Alison…"

The brunette mumbles the name of the teacher who's scolding some teens in the hallway. Is she always so grumpy? Emily wonders, but even if that's true, she finds it cute, super cute how Alison's eyebrow frowns and her mouth pouts every time that someone pretends to not listen to her.

She could stay there, looking at her in the distance all day long, but, she's here for a reason and that reason is to talk with the blonde teacher, so Emily runs towards her, even if you're not supposed to run in the hallways. And, the brunette can imagine Alison scolding her for running here, but before that could become true, someone holds her from the arm, dragging her into the Principal's office.

"Busted! First day and already in the Principal's office, no good, Em, no good…"

"Shut up, Hanna and let me do the talking"

Spencer says with determination and this bossy attitude. She's no longer the tequila girl on the bar, she's the one who's gonna make Alison's problem go away or at least that's what she plans to do. After all, she feels responsible for the incident between Emily and her cousin so…

"How much do you want?"

"What?"

"You can present charges, but I assure you that Alison will never go to jail for hitting her aggressor, me and my lawyers will make sure of it"

"Wow, wow, wow! Lawyers? Aggressor? What the hell are you talking about?"

Emily has no idea why this interrogation is even taking place. She looks for clarification from Hanna and the blonde just gives her a nod of insurance, telling her that she has it from her when she says…

"Give us your Mercedez, Spencer and, we're even…"

"Hanna!"

"What? Do not look at me like that, Emily! I had to has a really nice car…"

Both brunettes roll their eyes and they get the blonde teacher out of the room. She's not helping at all.

"If you're not presenting charges and you're not here to ask for money. What the hell do you want?"

"Her…?"

"What?"

It's insane, it's madness to believe that this is love at first sight. And, Spencer has all the right to laugh about it but…

"She's the one…"

"She's the one who will kick your ass again the moment you tell her what you just said to me. Sorry to crash your bubble but my cousin doesn't want anything to do with love"

"Well, I'm gonna change that!"

Spencer sighs, she knows Alison too well to know that Emily will be just losing her time and yet, she decides to help. Why? Well, because everyone needs love in their life, at least once. And, who knows, maybe Alison will thank her for this or give her a black eye too. Either way, after a long talk, Spencer makes it real, what Emily wanted the most: another encounter with Alison.

"You called, Spence?"

"Yeah, come in"

The two alone, Alison is not sure why she has been requested to meet with the Principal till Spencer starts talking about the new temporal coach for the swimming team.

"I thought you said there was no budget to pay someone to do it"

"And, it's true, this person who was an athlete on her good days, is willing to do it for free"

"Really? Wow, the kids will be thrilled with this"

"Yeah, but…"

"There's always a but…"

Spencer sighs, not sure how to give the news, but Alison is not someone who goes around the bushes so…

"For Lord Sake, Spence! Just tell me already!"

"She has a request in order to do this voluntary job. And that request involves you…"

"Oh…? How?"

"Well, she would like a guide, someone who would show her how things work around and things like that…"

"Any teacher can do that…"

"Yeah, but it must be you…"

"Why?"

Spencer doesn't reply.

"Spencer…?"

"Ali, please believe me that I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think it could be good for you…"

"Spencer, what the hell are you talking about…?"

"She could have presented charges against you and decided to not do it, so, you should keep that in mind too"

"What? Wh…?"

Alison's eyes get bigger of shock when by the corner of her eyes she recognizes the brunette who's shyly entering the office, Alison's mind finally understands what is happening.

"Hi, I…"

"Oh Hell NO!"

"Ali…" (sighs) "Emily can you wait outside please?"

"Sure…"

From outside the office, you could hear the yellings, the angry and unique voice of the blonde, huffing around for what is to come. So scary to hear her like that, some students have the instinct to run away as far as possible. It's a very natural response, so why the hell, Emily is not having the same reflex? Hanna wonders while she stands beside her friend, who just radiates happiness, hearing the heated argument which is taking place inside that office.

"Geez, you're crazier than me…"

"What do you mean?"

"Alison is inside, huffing like a bull because she has to spend some time with you. And, what do you do in between? You're here, acting like a damn puppy, waving its tail, waiting for its grumpy master to walk him home"

"Do you really think she might invite me to her home?"

"OMG, Emily! Are you listening to yourself? Geez! You really should check your head! That punch really messed up with your head"

Hanna looks so annoyed and Emily doesn't take it bad, neither does she take it bad the way Alison looks at her when she finally gets out of Spencer's office.

"Hi! I'm… wait! Wait for me!"

The Math teacher doesn't stay to hear a word of what Emily has to say. And, just like Hanna predicted, Emily goes after the grumpy blonde, like a lost puppy.

"Yep! She's crazier than me…"

There are so many ways to pursue love. And, this might not be the ideal, but Emily will swing it and get the best of it.

"Good morning, Ali!"

Emily says the next day, putting a cup of coffee on Alison's desk. She hopes this will give her some points but all she gets it's an indifferent look from the blonde who says…

"I don't drink coffee. Just tea"

"Oh, noted… I drink Americano! Just if you were wondering…"

"I wasn't…"

Alison is as mean as possible, she has no intentions to be nice and pretend they can be friends or something like that. She hopes the brunette gets the message, but looking at the way Emily is constantly looking at her, it doesn't look like it.

"Did you really check out your head after hitting the floor the other night?"

"Why does everyone think there's something wrong with my head?"

Emily asks and Alison has no time nor the patience to explain to her how oblivious she's to their actual situation.

"Forget it. C'mon. I'll show you where the pool is…"

It's before classes when they do a quick tour in the school. And, more than once, Emily feels tempted to hold Alison's hand while they walk side by side but it's too soon right? And, the pain in her eye is still too fresh to remind her that the last thing she needs right now, it's to piss off Alison and get another black eye for doing something imprudent.

"Thanks for the tour…"

Alison shrugs her shoulders, she has shown her around, she has done her part of the deal. This should be enough, right? So why?! Why?! The brunette passes by her classroom each time she has free time?

"Ali! I just finished my first class! It was so fun!"

"Ali, I brought you tea, this time!"

"Ali, it's already Friday!"

"Ali…"

"Ali…"

The brunette uses any silly pretext to talk with her and Alison is over the edge to snap and maybe hit her again if she must because she had enough.

"Breath, Alison. Just breath…"

Alison mumbles to herself when once again, Emily pops up in her classroom without reason. What will be the annoying reason today? The blonde is wondering when the brunette kneels beside her desk, resting her crossed arms and head over the desk when she asks something that, for once, Alison doesn't find silly at all.

"Ali, why do you like Math so much?"

The blonde teacher stays stiff when she hears the question. Staring at the brunette who's looking at her with nothing more than adoration. This is the first time someone takes the time and shows real interest in understanding her admiration for the numbers. Not even her parents have asked that question, not even once, ever! And, deep down, Alison feels bad about it and a tiny trace of sadness appears on her face.

Making her sad was never the plan, Emily just wants to know her better, but looking at Alison's face, it cause big concern in Emily, the last thing the brunette wanted was to make her sad and she wonders if she shouldn't have asked such a question, but then, for the first time since they met, Alison looks at her with some kind of tenders and gives her a tiny smile.

The tiny sparkle in those blue eyes, the way those tender lips show the cuter smile Emily has ever seen. It's like a new world was opening up to Emily. And, Alison is not the kind of person who is willing to open up with anyone, but she has always been eager to talk with someone about her only passion: Math, so she wasn't going to walk away from this chance to do it.

Alison' smile grows with each word. She looks vibrant, free and more beautiful than ever in front of Emily's eyes. And, the blonde is so relaxed talking and talking that she doesn't get why she hears Emily saying the 'L' word to her.

"You what?!"

"I love you, Ali. I'm so in love with you"

So, how did you meet the love of your life? How did you confess for the first time? It was memorable? Unforgettable? Well, for Alison, it was definitely unexpected, definitely unexpected, just like the way her heart pounds at the resonance of the word 'Love'.
