I'm the love of your life - CH 03

Love, how can a word so simple and tiny be so problematic and complicated? For that and many more reasons, Alison has always been able to avoid anything linked with Love but now that the word has incarnated in the form of a brunette who follows her around like a puppy, well… avoiding it, it doesn't seem like an option anymore. Especially when the brunette doesn't stop looking for the woman of her affection, a blonde who's watching, in the distance.

"She looks like a lost puppy the moment she doesn't find me. Why?"

Alison asks her cousin who's actually working on some paperwork. Spencer rolls her eyes, she's not the girl for this kind of talk, if Alison wants to talk about feelings and that kind of stuff, she should have walked into the classroom of the English teacher, Aria Montgomery. God knows that little brunette loves to talk about love.

"She'll eventually get tired. Her fixation on me will pass, right…?"

"Yeah, sure, I mean you're not exactly a sunshine…"

Alison doesn't appreciate Spencer's sarcasm. She knows she's hard to deal with. She doesn't need to hear it from her cousin. And yes, Alison is not a very approachable person, she's not someone easy to love and yet, Emily walks in the school, every day, looking more and more in love with the blonde. How is that even possible?

The blonde has been cold, even mean and yet, here she's, looking for Alison in the hallways of the school. Students and teachers walk by, none of them is the girl Emily is eager to see which brings a big sadness in Emily's heart.

"Damn it, Pepe makes the same pout each time he doesn't find its toys…"

Peeking through the window of Spencer's office, Alison mumbles when she looks at the pout Emily is doing right now, the brunette is turning her head around, looking for no other than…

"Alison…"

She says her name, hoping the blonde will magically appear if she says her name enough times. But, the blonde is unable to put a foot outside the office, even if Emily's pouts are making it very hard for Alison to stay still. The blonde is not a softy, she barely gives in anything and yet, she's struggling to stay still while looking at the sad pout of the brunette who's outside, looking for her.

"Ali, she might stop acting like a lost puppy if you stop hiding from her…"

"Shut up, Spencer!"

Hiding in the office of her cousin is not the answer to her problems, the blonde knows it, she is not the kind of person who hides from her problems, but she's unable to move for now, she is just looking through the window, hidden behind the curtains. Hiding from Emily? Hiding from love? Is that really what life is?

"Are you really gonna hide in my office during all your breaks?"

Alison deeply sighs, of course she doesn't want to spend her breaks, hiding in Spencer's office. But, dealing with Emily and her constant affection, it's too much for a girl like Alison who has no idea about how to deal with feelings at all. So yeah, for now, she's stuck in this office till the bell rings. Or, at least that was the idea, but then she sees a tiny tear appear in Emily's eyes and that's the little push she needed to finally give in, at least for now.

"Are you kidding me? Why would she cry just because she doesn't find me?! Damn it! Damn it! Why does she have to act like a damn sad puppy! Why do I care if she looks sad?! AHHH! This is all your fault, Spencer!"

Of course Alison blames Spencer for all of this when she storms out of the office, but now that she sees the effects of Emily's pout, the blonde teacher might start blaming her dog, Pepe, too for making her become a softy against such a pout.

"ALISON!"

The brunette says the name of the math teacher and in a very dramatic way, Emily rushes to hug the blonde once she's spotted in the hallway. And for once, Alison accepts the hug, she even pats Emily's back and whispers words of comfort while the brunette rambles about how sad she was because she couldn't find her anywhere.

"Mhm-mmm…"

Spencer hums, looking at the cute scene, from her office. Every day, she hears Alison whining about the brunette and yet, the moment she sees a tear in Emily's eyes, the blonde rushes to the rescue. And, to be honest, Emily has never been a damsel in distress, but she will not lie that she has never felt more safe than in Alison's arms.

The bell rings and Alison walks away, not before patting Emily's head one last time, just to calm down the sobbing brunette who happily leans forwards to the hand which is caressing her head.

"She really acts like a puppy…"

Spencer smirks, if Emily was a puppy, she would definitely be waving her tail now that her master is patting her head. And, it's funny because Spencer could swear that such a reaction of the brunette is bringing a big smile on Alison's face.

Who could have ever imagined Alison was able to care for someone else's feelings? No one, especially the blonde who doesn't understand how the hell, Emily provokes in her so many emotions. How is Emily able to make her smile? How is she able to make her blush? How is she able to make Alison's heart feel something at all… How? Alison doesn't get it, she doesn't understand what is changing and why and, she definitely doesn't understand why one morning, while walking towards her classroom, she finds an old couple, waiting for her.

"Miss Alison DiLaurentis, right?"

The blonde nods to the couple who introduces themselves as the Fields. The last name doesn't ring the bell, Alison has always been very proud of remembering the name of all her students. But right now, she's doubting about her good memory. Fields… She has heard it before, but she doesn't recall where.

Was she meeting a parent today? She doesn't remember scheduling any meeting to be honest and she was trying to figure out who the student in question was, when the old woman hugs her without a reason.

"OMG! Alison, I'm so happy to finally meet you!"

"Excuse me?!"

"Let's take a selfie together so I can show you off with all my friends, back in Rosewood"

The old woman doesn't wait for an answer when she takes a photo with a very confused Alison.

"What is happening?"

The blonde mumbles to herself, she's not a hugging person, her family is not a hugging family and she's definitely not used to hug the parents of her students, but that's the thing, they are not the parents of one of her students, they are the parents of the tall brunette who might have been very vocal about her feelings for Alison a few days ago.

Alison, this… Alison, that… Alison, Alison, Alison. Every time Emily texts or talks with her parents, all she talks about is the blonde teacher. So of course, like any parent, the Fields decided to pay a visit to meet this amazing girl who, according to Emily, it's the love of her life.

"You're prettier in person"

"Ahmmm… thank you?"

"And, you're a Math teacher, so you're smart, that's good!"

Alison is smart, but not smart enough to figure out what is happening right now. And, her mind goes completely blank when the old woman asks…

"Do you want kids?"

"Excuse me?"

"I would love to have some grandkids to spoil very soon…"

"WHAT?!"

"Mom!"

Yells the brunette who's running towards them. Alison will scold her for running in the hallways later, now she has to explain what is coming on here and, why is her mother asking Alison about kids! Emily would like to give some answers but she has nothing. After all, her parents' visit wasn't something planned.

"Mom, Dad, what are you doing here?"

"Well, you are talking about Alison all the time so we decided it was time to finally meet her…"

"You talk about me?! With your parents?!"

Emily nods, finding it completely normal and Alison cannot believe this. She wants to kill this brunette right now for putting her in such an awkward situation, but those dark thoughts vanish the moment Pam starts to compliment her beauty once again.

"Emy! You were right, she's very pretty! Like a barbie!"

"MOM!"

Emily blushes when her mother points out the good look of the blonde. And, she's not the only one. Alison is getting really red with all the attention she's receiving. Hugs, it's not the only thing the Fields were planning to give today. They came with gifts too.

"Emy mentioned you like sweet things, so I baked you some cookies, I hope you like them"

"I…"

Alison is not able to even start to talk since Emily's mom is already tucking a cookie inside her mouth. And, OMG! It's so sweet and delicious! The blonde is already humming about how delicious it tastes when the old brunette also puts a very soft scarf around her neck.

"I also wove you a wool scarf. Emily doesn't stop telling us how you're constantly feeling cold, hope this will keep you warm…"

"I…"

"I asked Wayne to bring his tool box too, he's going to fix your chair, sweetheart, he's really good fixing things at home"

The old man nods and wastes no time to get into work.

"I…"

Alison holds onto her words for a moment, waiting for another interruption, but this time, Pam Fields has nothing else to say and for the first time in her life, Alison is without words. She has no idea what she wants to say or what other things she should say besides…

"I… appreciate it. Thank you"

"Oh, do not mention it, sweetheart, that's what family is for"

"Family?"

"Well, yeah, Emy doesn't stop telling us she's gonna marry you, so, we are more than happy to finally meet you. I cannot wait to tell all my friends how pretty is my future daughter-in-law"

MARRIAGE?! Alison's eyes get bigger and she almost chokes with the cookie, which gets stuck in her throat the moment she hears what for her it's a complete lie. But for Emily, it's not a lie, she has already decided to marry Alison one day, she just might have forgotten to mention to her parents that 'one day' might be still too far away…

The blonde professor has all the intentions to make it very clear that there's no wedding, no now, no ever, but once again, she gets out of her element when Wayne drags her to sit on her fixed chair. And, oh… it's nice to finally be able to adjust the seat height. The blonde is so comfortable with the settings of her chair that she doesn't register the moment she nods, agreeing to having dinner with the Fields, later that day till it's too late to back out.

"How did you agree on meeting her parents…?"

"It just happened, Spencer"

"How?! You're not even dating! Or, are you?"

"Stop saying nonsense, Spencer! Of course we're not dating! I want nothing to do with that woman, whatsoever!"

"Then, why did you agree to have dinner with her parents?"

"Because they asked and I… they… they… they fixed my chair at school"

"I told you to buy a new one a long time ago"

"And, I told you I'll not use my money for something the school should pay for!'

Spencer rolls her eyes, she believes it's pointless to explain once again how complicated it is to get a proper budget in a public school. And, just like Spencer, Alison doesn't want to explain why they are here, in front of Alison's favorite restaurant. Mostly, because she cannot even think about a good explanation to justify her actions. Alison just knows that she gave her word to meet them for dinner and she's keeping her word but…

"I get why you're here but, why was I dragged to come, too?"

Spencer doesn't get why she's the plus one and Alison doesn't feel the need to repeat again that all of this mess is Spencer's fault, so the blonde just grabs her cousin from the arm so they can step into the Italian restaurant where the rest of the guests were already waiting for them. To Alison' surprise, Spencer is not the only plus one unexpected in the dinner.

"Hanna, what are you doing here?"

"Well, I heard The Fields saying they are paying for this dinner so, who am I to say no to a free meal?"

Alison and Spencer roll their eyes, this woman is really something. She might be a close childhood friend, but the blonde teacher should pay for the big amount of food she will probably eat tonight, or at least that's what Alison believes and that's why she says…

"Everyone should pay its share"

"It's okay, Alison. We're the one who settled this dinner"

"But, Ms Fields, this place is expensive"

"But, it's your favorite, right? So, we don't mind"

The Fields look at Alison with happy smiles, they want to feast on Alison, give a good impression and she appreciates the gesture, but one look at the prices on the Menu and she can tell that the old couple is already gulping hard, wondering if they will really be able to pay for all, especially for Hanna's meal.

"Ready to order?"

The Fields decide to settle with a salad, the least expensive in the Menu and Emily does the same. And, Alison knows that Emily is not a salad person, she's a pizza's lover, but she is probably choosing the same because of the price.

"The salad is just an entry. Are you sure you don't want anything else?"

The waitress asks before taking the order of the rest of the group and the Fields and Emily nod, trying to not worry about what Hanna might order and they might look okay, settling with a simple salad but, Alison is not okay with it, so she takes care of it…

"Of course they will have something else because it's me who's paying for all tonight. They're my guest"

"Ali…"

Alison doesn't allow Emily to even finish the word and somehow the nickname is something the brunette likes to say, she hopes to keep saying in the future, a lot. Anyway, Emily tries to say they're okay with one tiny salad, but Alison ignores her and she takes care of the global order while she talks with the waitress in Italian. No one understood a word, except for Spencer, who's already smirking and looking at her cold hearted cousin with a teasing gaze.

"You're a softy, Alison"

"Shut up, Spencer"

"What is happening, why is the waitress leaving? I haven't given her my order"

"Do not worry, Hanna, you'll get full with all I ask for"

"Ali…"

"It's ok, Em. I've this…"

Says Alison, holding Emily's hand and assuring her that everything will be okay. This is the first time that the blonde calls her with a nickname and Emily feels like she cannot stop smiling about it. The Fields try to insist on paying but Alison makes it very clear that while they are in the city, visiting, they are the guests and they shouldn't pay for anything at all.

"If that's how it works then, when you visit us in Rosewood, it will be us who will pay for all, Alison"

Alison chuckles and agrees, thinking that day will never happen while Emily is already picturing the four of them, having brunch at the Brew. How wonderful would it be to bring the blonde to her hometown, right? Emily is already picturing the two of them, holding hands and walking in the streets of that little town. There are so many places the brunette would love to show her. And, thinking about the tour to do in town, Emily blushes and giggles when she pictures the two of them, sitting on the kissing rock. The place where all the teenagers got their first kiss and Emily cannot wait to have that first kiss with Alison. Daydreaming about all the hypothetical kissing that might occur above the kissing rock, Emily disconnects from reality till the food finally arrives.

Wine, bread with olive oil, garlic and cheese arrive with the salads as the meal entry and from there, it's a culinary journey to Tuscany and its flavors. It's a magical, jaw-dropping experience that the Fields will never forget. Neither Emily, who's overjoyed, watching Alison laughing, interacting with her parents and mostly doing everything in her power to make the Fields happy.

Alison doesn't stop to surprise her. She's so kind, so smart, so refined… There's no doubt that Emily couldn't have chosen anyone better to be the love of her life. Alison is perfect, but for the first time since they met, Emily starts to wonder if she's perfect for Alison, too.

Is Alison out of her league? Doesn't Alison deserve better than Emily? Is Emily worthy to be the love of Alison's life? Lots of questions start to pop into the brunette's mind and somehow, the idea of holding hands with Alison in Rosewood starts to look more like a dream than a possibility.
