AN: IT MAY APPEAR LIKE SOME EVENTS ARE OUT OF ORDER AND I APOLOGIZE. BUT IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU'D LIKE TO SEE, DON'T HESITATE TO ASK!
Arriving back at their home, Sonja and Pride helped Chris inside. Then once he was settled on the couch, Pride said his goodbyes and headed back home. They would start the case fresh again in the morning. Sonja just looked tired as she leaned against the counter in the kitchen. Chris could hear her as she sighed.
"Hey come here," he called out and Sonja walked to the couch.
"Do you need something?" she asked.
"Yeah."
"What?"
"You," he said as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his lap. Sonja just smiled at him before kissing him gently.
"Don't do that again, LaSalle, you hear me?"
"I'm pretty sure this won't be the last time you sit on me," Chris said innocently.
"I meant get hurt Neanderthal. I don't like getting calls from Sebastian that you're in the emergency room for something stupid."
"Okay, next time I'll make sure Gregorio or Pride calls."
"Not funny," Sonja said, pushing his shoulder.
"Well you said you didn't like Sebastian calling so..."
"What am I gonna do with you?" Sonja asked herself, shaking her head.
"Oh I bet you could think of a thing or two," Chris said, his eyes dancing suggestively. Sonja just laughed.
"So what are we gonna do for the next couple days? Are you gonna be okay with Caden alone?" she asked.
"I might need some help."
"But I'm going back to work tomorrow. What are we gonna do?"
"Hold on," Chris said, fishing out his phone. He dialed a number he knew by heart. After two rings, someone picked up.
"Christopher?"
"Hey Mama."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong."
"Something is wrong if you're calling so late."
"Mama, it's only 9pm."
"Well that's late when I've got to get up early and tend to the farm."
"What about the hands? Aren't they there?"
"Yes but these young fellas don't know their ass from their elbow sometimes. It takes me getting out there to make sure it all gets done."
"I'll find you some better help Mama."
"It's fine, I'll manage. So why are you calling?"
"Well, I wanted to tell you something."
"Oh God, you're dying. You contracted one of the sexual diseases, didn't ya?"
"Mama, I'm offended by that."
"Well, honey, I hate to be the one to break it to ya, but you do tend to like the ladies."
"Well that's all changed now Mama. Do you remember Sonja?"
"That sweet young lady you told me about? She sounded so lovely. Why didn't you ever make things work with her?"
"Mama, she left for the FBI. What was I supposed to do?"
"You tell that girl you love her. It's so obvious Christopher, I swear sometimes you make my head hurt. I mean you might've been born at night but it certainly weren't last night."
"I know that Mama but before she left, I did try to tell her."
"Did you mess it up? You always end up with your foot in your mouth, boy."
"Well seeing as how we spent the night together, I'd say I didn't quite get the whole foot in my mouth."
"Christopher!"
"Sorry Mama but you asked. Anyways, a case brought her back to New Orleans and we saw each other again."
"Christopher I think I know where this is going and I'm proud of you."
"Seriously Mama?"
"Yes, you're going to ask her out aren't ya? About time, son."
"Well I think we might be a bit past that."
"What do you mean?"
"Sonja didn't know but when she left, she was pregnant. She found out a month or two after she left."
"Christopher Charles LaSalle did you knock up that poor girl and not help her out?"
"To be fair, Mama, she didn't tell me until now."
"So you have a child?"
"A son, he's four months old and his name is Caden."
"Caden? After your brother?"
"Yeah, Sonja wanted to pick something that meant something."
"This Sonja sounds like a perfect match for you Christopher, I can't wait to meet her."
"Well that's the other half of why I'm calling."
"What's that?"
"There was an incident at work tonight and..."
"Didn't I ask you if you got hurt? Where is your head at boy?"
"I didn't get seriously hurt but just an itty bitty scratch."
"More like almost a foot," Sonja said but it was loud enough for Celia to hear.
"Is that Sonja?"
"Yeah it is."
"Put that fancy phone of yours on the speaker, Christopher."
"Why Mama?"
"Don't ask just do as your mama tells you," Celia said and Chris hit the speaker button.
"You're on speaker now Mama."
"Hello Miss Sonja. I suppose I should introduce myself. I'm Celia, Christopher's mama."
"I know, he's told me so many stories about you and the rest of the family. I feel like I know you already."
"Well I just want to apologize for my son, you know mother to mother. I didn't raise him to run out on his commitments."
"To be fair, I didn't tell him right away. I wasn't sure he would want Caden and I in his life."
"Well, you sound like the best girl he's ever had so I for one am happy you are in his life and I can't wait to meet Caden."
"That's why I was calling Mama," Chris said, rubbing his temples. Sometimes his mama gave him a headache. "I'm out of work for a few days and will need some help with Caden. I thought maybe you could drive out and help me?"
"Oh Christopher I'd love to! But what about the farm?"
"Why don't we see if Mr. Sherman will keep an eye on it for ya?"
"Perfect! I'll call Tussie and talk to her. When do you want me there?"
"Sonja starts back at NCIS tomorrow morning," Chris said before turning to Sonja. "What time is your mom bringing Caden home?" he asked her.
"Probably around 10."
"Can you make it here by 9:30 Mama?"
"Absolutely! I can't wait to meet my grandson! Bye now and I love y'all both!" Celia hung up and Chris just sighed.
"My mama gives me a headache."
"I like your mom," Sonja said with a laugh.
"Oh sure, take her side," Chris said, feigning shock.
"Come on tiger, let's get you to bed since you're on daddy duty for the next few days."
