Chris was sitting on the back deck with his mother and son when Pride pulled up to the house. This was not a message he wanted to deliver but he knew Chris needed to know where they were at case wise since Sonja wasn't coming home tonight.
Pride knocked on the wooden railing as he began to climb the stairs.
"Hey King. This is my mother, Celia. Mama, this is my boss, Dwayne Pride," Chris said as he stood and shook Pride's hand.
"It's nice to meet you Mr. Pride," Celia said.
"Dwayne please. It's nice to meet you as well. I can see where Christopher gets his Southern hospitality from."
"Well, I always tried to raise these kids right, despite what Beau might have been trying to do. Now I get to help with my grandson," Celia said as she snuggled closer with Caden. Chris just looked at Pride.
"You're here and Sonja isn't. Something's wrong?" he asked, the worry evident in his voice.
"Not wrong per say but I thought it best to come and tell you."
"Tell me what?"
"Sonja went under today with 4th Street."
"Yeah she told me. She called before the went in."
"In order for her to maintain her cover, they wanted her to stay the night. She agreed."
"So she's not coming home tonight?"
"No, I'm sorry Christopher. The meet is happening tomorrow and this is our chance to take them down."
"Then I'm gonna be right there beside you," Chris said, standing up next to Pride.
"Christopher you're still on medical restriction."
"They said a day or two. Its been a day. There is nothing you can say or do that will stop me from being there to make sure Percy is safe and comes home."
"What about Caden?" Pride asked.
Chris opened his mouth but closed it. Pride had chosen the right thing to say but Celia cleared her throat.
"Christopher Charles LaSalle, I didn't raise you to step down from your commitments. If you were told a day or two and your feel up to it, you don't worry about Caden. He will be safe here with me while you go and get his mama home safely. You love that girl and you'll be able to bring her home safe and sound to him. Don't worry about us," Celia said.
"Thanks Mama."
"Of course, my son."
Chris looked at Pride. "What time do we leave?"
The next day, after an awkward and uneventful night sleep, Chris and the rest of the team began to assemble. They wanted to go over the plan one more time to make sure they had everything covered. Luckily they were still able to track Sonja's location to show she still hadn't left the 4th Street warehouse yet.
"When we get there, Gregorio and Sebastian take the back, Christopher and I will take the front."
"Have you thought about side exits?" Gregorio asked.
"NOPD is going to assist with the takedown and cover all exits other than front and rear. This is primarily an NCIS investigation and we will run point."
"And we make sure we get Percy out safe," Chris said, not meeting anyone's eyes.
"We will get her home," Sebastian said.
"Nothing will keep us from getting to her, LaSalle. We've got your back and hers," Gregorio added.
"Let's move out," Pride said and they all dispersed.
Over at the warehouse, Sonja was getting antsy. She wanted to get this done and over with. She just wanted to hold her son and kiss Chris. There were so many other things she wanted to do that sit on this grungy old mattress on the floor of dirty warehouse waiting to find out who was dealing Navy weapons to the gang.
There was a knock on the door to where Sonja was.
"Yeah?"
The door slid open and Dre stuck his head in. "You ready Andi?"
"Been ready. Let's roll," Sonja said.
"Come on. Its me, you and Willie going to the meet."
Pride and the team followed behind as Sonja was taken deep into the city of New Orleans. She didn't recognize any of the back roads that Dre and Willie were taking. She just hoped the team was close enough to help when it came down to the nity grity.
"Where we meeting this guy at anyways?" she asked.
"Just be patient, boo. We'll be there soon," Dre answered. Sonja sat back and examined her fingernails. Suddenly Willie stopped the car.
"We're here," he said.
"Good, let's go."
Dre and Willie went in front and Sonja trailed behind. Before entering the building, she saw the black truck pull up outside in the corner of her eye. She would know that truck anywhere, it was Chris's!
Once inside she followed the men into a back room.
"You got the goods for us?" Willie asked.
"A dozen M16s, fresh out of Belle Chasse. You won't get better guns than these," the male voice said and Sonja froze. She knew that voice. It belonged to Troy Spooner, a former member of the militia that had put the bounty out of Pride. How the hell did he start working at Belle Chasse?
"Good. Willie, give him the money. Spooner, this is an old friend of mine, her name is Andi. Andi, come here," Dre said, pulling Sonja by the arm. As she came face to face with Spooner, the color drained from her face.
"Andi? Funny, last time I met her she was going by Agent Percy of NCIS."
"What?" Dre said, pulling her back to look at her. Sonja had no choice. It was now or nothing.
"Federal agents! Freeze!" Sonja called just as her team burst through the door followed by NOPD. Pride went after Spooner as Gregorio went for Willie. Chris came towards her as Dre delivered a right hook to Sonja's cheek and sent her flying into Chris. He caught her just as they went down.
About 20 minutes later, NOPD was helping clear the scene and Chris was pressing a cloth to Sonja's cheek. Dre had gotten her good, she might need a couple stitches. Pride walked over.
"How the hell was Spooner working at Belle Chasse?" was the first thing out of Sonja's mouth.
"Apparently after Zed was no longer involved with the militia, they got Spooner on as a civilian support to Belle Chasse's weapon support under an assumed name," Pride said.
"Did we get them all?" Chris asked, still tending to Sonja.
"We believe so," Pride said as Sebastian came over.
"Pride, we got a problem."
"What is it?" Sonja asked.
"Dre is missing."
"You better hope Dre don't find ya ass, Andi or whoever the hell you're supposed to be. He will get everyone you love before getting you himself," Willie hollered out as NOPD put him in the back of the car.
"Pride, we need to find Dre," Sonja said.
"We will but you need to get that cut checked out. Christopher, take Sonja to the hospital and then home. We can sort through paperwork tomorrow."
"You got it King."
Chris took Sonja to the truck and headed for the emergency room. The doctor on duty was the same one who had stitched up Chris a few nights ago. He remembered them well.
"Back again?" the doctor asked.
"For her this time," Chris said with a smile.
"It's not that big of a deal," Sonja said.
"Well, we can get you all stitched up but maybe you two should take it easy before you're both back in here," the doctor said with a chuckle. Both Chris and Sonja couldn't help but smile.
After leaving the hospital, they made their way home. The sun was setting and made a beautiful scene.
"I can't wait to be home," Sonja said.
"Mama can't wait to really meet you," Chris replied, feeling the ring box in his pocket. He was waiting for the right time.
"I almost forgot she was still here."
"Well she didn't."
"What have you been telling her?" Sonja asked.
"Nothing," Chris said with his trademark smile. They pulled into the drive and saw the lights still on.
"Hmm, Mama must still be awake," Chris said.
"Does she go to sleep early?"
"Usually cause she's gotta get up to tend to the farm."
They went inside and saw the room. It was ransacked, pictures thrown about and stuff everywhere. Frantically, Sonja and Chris raced to the spare bedroom where Celia was staying. They entered the room, guns drawn and found a sight. Clearly a struggle had been had. They heard a moan come from beside the bed. Sonja covered Chris as he moved the blankets and pillows. They found his mother, beaten and bloody on the floor.
"Mama!" Chris said as Sonja pulled out her phone. She called for an ambulance and gave them the address.
"What happened to you?" Chris asked, holding his mother.
"Men broke in, tore the place up," Celia said in ragged breaths. "Didn't know what they wanted until they followed me through the house. Christopher, I'm so sorry."
"Where's Caden?" Sonja asked.
"They took him."
