Steve woke Catherine up early the next morning. "Good morning," he whispered in her ear.

"Good morning," she replied and opened her eyes. She noticed that he was already dressed and had a backpack on his back.

"Are you going to work today?" She asked a little disappointed. It was Sunday and she expected him to stay home since he had worked on Saturday.

"No. We're going to Maui and I've already put some clothes, a bikini, a sandal and slippers in your backpack. Get dressed quickly, we can't waste time."

"Maui? But I need to leave tomorrow, Steve."

"We'll be back tomorrow morning and you won't miss your flight," he replied.

"Okay." She got up and dressed to go to Maui with him.

They went to the hotel where Steve had already made a reservation. It was a very large room that received the sea breeze. "It's a great room," Catherine told him.

"I'm glad you liked it. I know we wasted a lot of time, but today I do everything to see you happy."

Catherine put her right hand on his face affectionately. "Thank you. It means a lot to me to know that you've never forgotten me even if we've gone our separate ways."

"Come here," Steve pulled her into a passionate kiss and she hugged him hard.

"Put on your bikini, let's take a speedboat ride. We already have a schedule booked."

"Oh, really? How wonderful!" She replied.

Catherine and Steve took a speedboat ride and stopped the speedboat at sea to swim and also had a "picnic."

"Wow, how much, Steve! How did you have time to prepare all this?" she asked.

"Well, I may have asked the help of someone on my team."

"Junior," she said, and Steve asked how she knew it was Junior.

"He seems to be the only romantic on that team," she replied.

"What about me? I'm not romantic?" he asked.

"Only when you want to. Now you're being very romantic," she said by putting her arms around his neck.

"I'm gonna try to work on this thing of being romantic," he said.

"I like that," she smiled and they kissed.

The next day they returned home in the morning and in the afternoon Steve took her to the airport.

"I don't want you to go," he told her.

"And I don't want to go, but I need to go. Thank you for that wonderful weekend, Steve," Catherine said looking him in the eye.

"Call me when you get home, okay?" He asked while he put a lock of her hair behind her ear.

"I'll call," she replied and hugged him very strongly and kissed him tenderly. "I love you."

"I love you too," Steve replied as she walked away.

Steve stood there for a while and watched her disappear from his field of vision. He was thinking he should give up everything and leave on that plane with her.

"Why didn't I go?" He asked himself. "Why didn't I go if she is the love of my life?"

Catherine arrived in the town where she lived the next day. She was tired, but went to Susan's house to see Kevin.

"Oh, no!" Catherine put her hands on her head in despair when she saw Susan's house. She knocked insistently on the door next door. " Mrs Davis!"

"Hi, Catherine," Mrs Davis said when she opened the door.

"What happened?" She asked pointing to Susan's house and she was afraid of the answer.

Mrs Davis saw the fear in Catherine's eyes. "Come, Catherine," she said calling Catherine to enter the house.

"Kevin..." Catherine said in tears.

"Kevin is alive, the neighbors managed to get him out of the house before the fire hit the room where he was sleeping, but he inhaled smoke and is in the hospital."

Catherine had trembling hands. "What about Susan?"

"Well, she and her boyfriend are missing. The police are looking for her because she left the boy home alone at night."

"What an irresponsible madwoman!" Catherine exclaimed.

"Yes, she was very irresponsible about her son's life. The judge won't let Kevin get back to her."

"I shouldn't have traveled," Catherine was heartbroken.

"It's not your fault, Catherine. She's his mother and she's supposed to take care of him."

"I'm gonna go to the hospital and talk to Doctor Jones and try to see Kevin," Catherine told her.

"Kevin is in the nearby city hospital. The hospital there has more resources to take care of him."

"I'll go there then. Thank you for telling me everything, Mrs Davis."

Mrs Davis wrote her phone number on a piece of paper and gave it to Catherine. "Can you call me to tell me how the boy is?"

"Yes, I will," Catherine left Mrs Davis' house feeling frustrated and guilty.
