Nine months later...

Danny was surprised when he opened the door and saw Catherine.

"Is this where there's a birthday party going on? I love cake. Happy birthday," She smiled at Danny.

"Where's Steve?" Danny asked her and was a bit rude.

Steve got out of the car with Kevin and Danny was relieved. "What took you so long to get out of the car you idiot? Did you want to scare me to death on my birthday?"

"I was putting the sneakers on Kevin," Steve replied.

"What did you think I did to him, Danny?" Catherine asked with a serious face.

Danny didn't answer and hugged Steve. "It's good to see you, Steve."

"Good to see you too, Danny."

Steve introduced Kevin to Danny. "Nice to meet you," Kevin said to Danny.

"Nice to meet you too," Danny replied and smiled. "Polite boy."

Steve realized that Catherine was upset and he passed his arm around her shoulder and kissed her lightly.

"Yes, he is very well educated, Catherine does an amazing job with him. She's the best mother he could have," Steve said to Danny and then looked at her. "Right sweetie?"

"Right sweetie," she replied.

Catherine and Steve saw Tani and Junior arriving with Kai and the boy was walking. "Oh my goodness! He's walking already, Cath!" Steve exclaimed and walked over to meet them and picked Kai up on his lap. "Hey boy! Uncle Steve was missing you," Steve told Kai.

Kevin ran up to Steve and Steve picked him up on his lap as well. "That's Kai, son. Look how big he's gotten."

Kevin gave Kai a hug and they both stayed on Steve's lap.

"Junior, Tani, I've missed you too," Steve told his friends. Tani and Junior hugged him while he was with the children on his lap and then they hugged Catherine. "It's good to see you guys again," Catherine said.

Junior and Tani also hugged Danny and congratulated him on his birthday.

Grace went to check why Danny was taking so long to get into the house and let out a happy little squeal. "Aunt Catherine!" Grace hugged her and Catherine returned her hug. "Grace, you are already a beautiful woman, but I will always see you as that little girl in the bee costume. I miss that time."

"I miss those times too, Aunt Catharine."

"What about Uncle Steve? Don't I deserve a hug?" Steve said to Grace.

Grace hugged him and kissed his cheek. "I missed you Uncle Steve. What comforted me was knowing that you and Aunt Catherine were happy together."

"I missed you too, Grace. I'd give you a hug too if I had both arms free."

Grace smiled. "None of them seem to be willing to leave your lap, Uncle Steve, but I understand them. You are the best uncle in the world."

Steve smiled and Catherine seized the moment to tell them the news. "And the best father in the world. I got final custody of Kevin and now we've filed for adoption so that Kevin will have Steve's name as his father. Kevin is going to be a McGarrett very soon."

"Oh, that's great! Congratulations boss," Tani told Steve.

"So you're definitely not back yet?" Danny asked.

"Not yet, we're going to be here for a month and then we're going back home. Mary and Joan will be coming too, they arrive tomorrow," Steve replied.

"Joan is bringing her boyfriend to meet us," Catherine said and smiled.

"Don't remind me of that, Cath," Steve ordered and everyone laughed.

"Shall we go inside? There's lots of good stuff to eat. My mom made delicious sweets," Grace said.

"Your mom?" Steve asked Grace but looked at Danny.

"We'll talk about that later," Danny said to Steve.
