Issei Hyoudou was having the weirdest day of his life.
At first he had woken up from one of the worst dreams that he could've imagined, a dream about his newfound girlfriend breaking up with him. Of course like most dreams it over exaggerated everting about it, and had Yuuma kill him while she flew away after breaking up with him.
But when he got to school, and was about to brag about his date with his girlfriend, both Matsuda and Motohama acted dumb!
"Are you guys seriously telling me that I just made up my girlfriend?!"
Matsuda looked at me for a good long minute, and answered with a "Yes, that's exactly what we're saying dude."
"Trust us Issei," Motohama added "If you did get a girlfriend before us, you wouldn't be talking with us. You'd be buried in the school garden six feet under and covered in maggots."
"Yeah you said that the last time to!" Issei exclaimed. He let a groan of despair as he leaned against the wall "It has to be true, I didn't just make her up."
"I don't know what to say man," Matsuda looked at him "We just don't remember a thing."
But he had told the three of them so much about Yuuma! Wait…
"Hang on, where's Minos-san?" He asked "He probably remembers!"
Only to receive more blank looks.
"Who?" Motohama asked.
"Seriously man, what are these names you're asking about?" Matsuda crossed his arms.
Issei's eyes went even wider as they both looked confused at th-
He saw Matsuda's mouth curl up into a smirk, and immediately Issei threw a punch "You jackasses!"
The two of them laughed as the avoided his blows "Sorry man, it was just too easy!"
After failing to deck either of them Issei found himself sitting on the floor "Okay but serious, where is he?"
"I'unno" Matsuda shrugged "I haven't seen him all day. Heck, I even waited at the gates hoping to get some lucky shots of Toujou-chan while she's on his shoulder, but I saw her walking alone to school today."
"Damn it." Issei cursed, whether it was due to the lack of a chance to prove he was right or due to the missed opportunity for a peek, no one will ever know.
[Scene]
Dohnaseek watched from the sky as a Devil scum approached the fountain in the park.
The Fallen Angel observed as the Devil stood there, seemingly contemplating his worthless existence. He heard the words "Yuuma" "Date" and "Die", and he couldn't help but wonder if this was the brat Raynare had bragged about killing yesterday.
The thought came to halt as he looked over his shoulder, a frustrating feeling welling up inside him. For some god-forsaken reason it felt like he had eyes boring into the back of his head for whole day, from the time he went out of the church until today.
He didn't know what it was, and he was sure it wasn't magic. He would've sensed that at the least. But something inside him told him that danger was near.
He sighed and grabbed his hat, pushing down over his eyes to calm his nerves. Looking down at the depressed Devil, he figured that the best way to blow off some steam was with a little hunt.
The park around him glowed and shimmered as he casted a spell to keep the mundane populace ignorant.
With that set he dropped from the sky.
The moment his feet touched the ground, the feeling suddenly returned Ten-Fold, and Dohnaseek had to stop himself from flying back into the safety of the air.
His head whirled around, trying to find out what was this source of danger he was feeling.
But he found nothing.
He turned back to the Devil and clicked his tongue when he saw that he was running. "Where do you think you're running boy?!" He called out to him, and spread his wings to take flight after him.
Worthless as they are, Devils were fast runners.
He saw the panic in his eyes when he overtook him, and landed in front of him. Dohnaseek watched as he backed away, "Th-This can't be real." He heard him babbled "I have to be dreaming!"
"Oh you're not dreaming," He cut short his words "Devil scum, lower than dirt, I see no Master and I see no friends. No circle to form, nor a mark to be seen," He walked forward "So you must be a Stray."
"What are you talking about?!" The Devil shouted back at him.
Dohnaseek snorted "Don't waste your breath talking," he held out a hand to the side "A Stray is a Devil with no home, and a Devil with no home has no one to miss them." He smirked and with a thought, his Light Spear appeared in his grip "That means I can kill you without reprecussions."
The Devil started to run away, and Dohnaseek pulled back his arm to throw it.
"I found you."
Only for his instincts to scream at him to MOVE!
An axe, many times longer than he was tall with a blade that was as wide as his own height, smashed into where he had just been standing. The ground split in two from where it had struck, as if the stone path was made of styrofoam.
Dohnaseek followed the axe to its owner and saw a giant holding the weapon. With a wild white mane that reached his back, manacles around his arms and legs, and two massive black horns growing from his head. It was an intimidating sight.
So how had he missed him?
The giant turned towards him, and he saw inhuman red eyes.
The Devil boy was screaming even louder, falling over from the sheer strength of his strike.
Dohnaseek gritted his teeth "Wh-"
"Shut up." The growl rattled him to the bone, and he noticed that he had another massive axe in his other hand "I'LL KILL YOU!"
Once more he moved his head just in time, the spike on the top part of the axe would've skewered his head right then and there. The Fallen Angel found himself stumbling backwards, the attack was enough to send him back despite that it had missed.
The giant turned his wrist, and Dohnaseek forced his wings to carry him into the air. The axe barely missed from amputating his feet, he steadied himself in the air as he could feel the whirlwind created from attack.
Dohnaseek teeth grinded against himself as he tried to keep up with the speed of the attack, it had taken every instinct in his body just to barely avoid the attacks. He barely managed to steady himself, before he launched himself backwards to avoid another stab from the giant.
This time the strength was to his advantage, and Dohnaseek allowed himself to be carried by the wind.
Then… the giant roared.
Dohnaseek felt his stomach turn, he felt his lunch suddenly rush up to his throat, he felt his wings go stiff. He felt all of this as his body processed the absolute terror he was feeling from the roar of this giant.
No… of this monster.
The ground under it cracked and exploded as it launched towards him. In a blink of an eye he was in front of him already, one of his massive weapons held aloft.
The Fallen Angel tried to hold his Light Spear as a shield, to parry, to just slow it down.
It smashed through his holy weapon like it wasn't even there, and the giant blade sunk into his shoulder.
It wasn't a holy weapon, nor was it demonic. It was mundane steel, only at a ridiculous size.
Even then, it felt like his shoulder was burning as it cut through skin, flesh and bone with that single strike. Dohnaseek wished that his vision went white with pain, but it didn't and that meant that he could only stare into the rage filled face of the monster in front of him.
It followed through with its swing, and the Fallen Angel was sent flying back. His back smashed into the fountain, breaking it as his limp body cartwheel in the air, before he finally slammed back into the ground on his back.
He slammed his teeth together as he withheld from screaming in absolute agony. Pain flared in his shoulder, and his free hand moved to apply pressure to the wound. "My arm," He gritted out "I can't feel my…" He didn't finish his sentence when he noticed his appendage was in front of the fountain, instead of attached to his shoulder.
He lifted his head a bit more, and saw that the monster was preoccupied with the Devil, who had long since passed out.
That was good, Dohnaseek used his elbow to push himself into a sitting position. He tried to crawl away while it was distracted.
Only for the monster's head to suddenly snap towards him.
"AAAAARGH!" A scream tore out of his throat when monster leapt from his spot, and crushed one of his legs under his foot. He stared at the mangled limb, before his eyes lifted upwards.
Once more inhuman red eyes stared down at him, filled with absolute anger and hate towards him. The monster lifted one of its weapons, whether it was his own imagination or not it felt like it was covered in a crimson glow that emphasised its monstrosity "Die."
Dohnaseek barely stopped himself from begging for mercy as the axe fell.
"HALT!"
Mere inches from his head the blade of the axe stopped.
The monster turned its head, and Dohnaseek followed.
A magic circle on the ground heralded the arrive of other Devils, three of them. One of them went towards the Devil that had been his hunt. The one walking towards them however.
"Gremory," He muttered, recognising the crimson red hair. He narrowed his eyes "What are you doing here?"
She looked more than a little amused at his current condition, her eyes filled with sadistic mirth "I could ask the same for you, Fallen One."
Was she not going to get him out of this ridiculous situation before she started asking?!
When she was unmoved by his glare, Dohnaseek could only reply "I was out hunting," he winced as he felt the foot crushing his leg press down harder. He didn't risk glaring at the monster above him "A Stray Devil, before this monster came out of nowhere and attacked me."
He heard it growl, but he ignored it.
The Gremory raised an eyebrow "So you so brazenly hunt Devils without my knowledge within my territory?"
"Your territory?" He questioned "So this city is under your watch then?"
"Indeed," she nodded her head towards the monster "And this fine gentleman here is a known citizen, so he is more in the right to kill you than you have to kill Stray Devils. Especially since the 'Stray' is from my household."
"So you would let this monster under your household kill me?"
"He is no more part of my household than any other citizen in this city." She glared at him "If he wants to kill you, so be it. That is his choice and his own justifications do so. Unless you can offer a proper explanation for your act of harming my servants."
He stared at her for a good long while, before he sighed "A misunderstanding," he admitted "I merely assume a Devil running free with no Master is a Stray and so I hunted him as such. Apologies, I wasn't aware of his true allegiance."
"Very well," she walked up towards them and placed a hand on the monster. A moment after, he felt the giant foot come off his leg relieving the pressure. He looked up to see her crimson eyes boring into him "You may leave, and hope that you don't do this 'misunderstanding' one more time."
He growled "Is that monster not going to kill me, as his 'right'?"
She turned towards it, it was still staring at him with pure anger in his eyes, but it didn't move. She turned back to him "It seems he doesn't wish to kill you now, are you going to look a gift horse in the mouth?"
"No," with his remaining hand he slowly pulled himself to a standing position. Putting all of his weight on his uninjured foot rather than the one that was smashed "I'll take my leave. My name is Dohnaseek, may we never meet again Gremory."
He unfurled his wings, and flew away.
[Scene]
Rias watched as the Fallen Angel flee'd the scene. A moment later the spell that he had casted faded out, and it was once more a normal night at the park.
"president," She heard Asterios call out to her "why did you let him leave?"
"Because outside of the club, you are not officially affiliated with the Gremory Household," She told him "If you did kill him, the Fallen Ones are more than within their rights to hunt you down and kill you as well." She turned to him and smiled "And I'd rather not have you put under such pressure and let yourself get hurt."
"he was going to hurt issei."
"And if that happens again, I assure you I won't give him any mercy." She reassured him.
"hmm" he nodded.
"That was wicked Asterios." Koneko said as she walked up towards him and Rias, the passed out form of Issei in her arms.
"Oh, is he okay?" Rias asked.
"He's just fine and dandy," Akeno answered a smile on her face "He's just a little spooked and passed out from sheer fright after Asterios' little performance." She sighed and placed a hand on her cheek "Though considering what I saw, I'm tempted to join him."
"I can only carry one." Koneko deadpanned.
"Oh? Well then, I'm sure Asterios wouldn't mind carrying me?"
"Stop."
"issei is fine then?" Asterios leaned forward and asked, ignoring the previous question.
"Yup," Akeno answered "Besides a few scrapes from falling over, he should be fine physically." Her mouth pulled back slightly "Mentally though, he might have issues."
"Then I suppose I can handle it," Rias stepped in "It was my fault for leaving him alone today, so I'll help him get acquainted back at his home."
As they discussed what they were going to do to Issei, Asterios found himself staring at a pool of blood and the severed arm. He walked over to it and smelled blood.
His head turned to a distance, his grip on his axes tightening.
"Calm down Asterios," Koneko appeared beside him, sans Issei in her arms.
"i can still smell him," he stated "his blood is still fresh, i can follow him and finish him off."
"If you go alone, you'll get hurt." She stated "Don't worry, you'll get the chance later, just trust us."
He nodded his head.
"Besides," Koneko punched a fist into an open palm "It'd be more fun if we go together."
Asterios smiled in response. He stopped, before he lifted his fingers to make a more 'normal' smile.
