A/N: Hey guys, welcome back to this dumbass that left this fluff fic for more than a couple months like a moron. Seriously speaking, this is why I didn't want to write plot because sometimes I overthink things and I want to get back to Asterios and Koneko fluff. Also this was just hard, because Asterios is… weird on his monster identity. Sometimes he's awknowledges it and accepts it for his whole self, and sometimes he… doesn't. Any case, have this weird chapter.
"my father was the king of crete, his name is Minos. my mother was pashipae, the queen."
"Those names…"
"Wait, so you're telling us that you're a Prince Asterios?"
"no… because i wasn't born from the two. my mother was pashipae, but she bore me with the cretan bull."
The King stared at the abomination within the arms of his wife, the queen happily cradling the human with the head of a beast.
It stared at him with its inhuman eyes.
"Wait sh- How did that happen?"
"I know about Pashipae and the Cretan Bull, I've read up that she used a bull costume made by Daedalus to trick it to mate with her."
"That's weird."
"It's a very old myth, and from Pashipae and the Cretian Bull a monster was born. Known as a Minotaur."
"correct. it a creature that was half-man half-bull."
"I suppose, that means…"
"yeah. i was that monster."
The abomination grew fast.
Only a year old, and it was almost as tall as the adults around it. Young as a babe, yet it's appendages filled with terrifying muscle and power.
And always, it had that terrifying face. A pair of inhuman eyes, with a pair of monstrous horns that grew from his head.
Pashipae, as expected of a mother, felt nothing but love for it.
But Minos feared what it would do when it grew older.
He feared what the monster would become.
"But that myth happened so long ago. To some, it was the origin of the Minotaurs and where the earliest records of them could be found."
"i told you, i am the Minotaur."
"Then, you would eventually be locked into the Labyrinth. A maze where King Minos had Daedalus build so that nothing could escape."
But despite the fear within the heart of King Minos, deep inside bore a somewhat fatherly care for someone who was still 'his' child.
It a feeling that prevented the king from slaying the abomination right then and there.
But it wasn't enough to stop him from the horrible action he would do it instead.
Barely old enough to understand the world around him, barely old enough to understand words, barely old enough just so that it could be considered a child rather than an infant.
Minos threw the abomination within the deep dark depths of the Labyrinth.
The King thought to himself, that it was for the safety of his kingdom, for the safety of his people, and more importantly it was for the safety of himself and those that he loved.
His queen cried out for the child, but in the end the King's words were absolute.
And the abomination was held behind the walls of the Labyrinth, where it would live for the rest of its life.
"yes, the labyrinth became my home. i… remember when i woke up… alone and in the dark. after that, i never saw my mother or father again."
"He just locked you away like that? How could he had just done that?"
"he was scared of me, because i was a monster. so he locked me away, like the monster i was supposed to be."
"Then… why didn't he kill you then?"
"Kiba!"
"What?! That's better than just letting him… starve!"
"father didn't let me starve. he would feed me."
"…No."
"The seven boy and seven girls of Athens, the sacrifice that he would provide into the Labyrinth."
"yes, whenever that time came, it was when i would eat."
But despite having the chance to simply lock away the monster and let it starve, despite having all the excuse to simply let it die out of sight.
King Minos still sought to feed the beast within the Labyrinth.
For reasons not known. Maybe he felt responsible for its existence, yet did not wish to see it live? Maybe a sick twisted parental love wanted it to survive, but could not stomach its existence?
No one knows.
But, everyone knows of the horrible actions he took to keep the beast alive.
Sacrifices.
Children.
Seven boys and seven girls to be fed to the beast within the walls.
They were just as young as the beast that lived within the Labyrinth, just as afraid.
And when they entered and roamed the seemingly endless halls of the maze, they would find themselves hunted by the horrible being inside.
"i would find them inside, always afraid and scared."
They were already afraid of the dark halls, occasionally hearing the haunting sounds within them.
"and when i did, i would always be so… hungry."
But what they fear the most, was the monster that roamed the halls.
The unlucky ones would come face to face with a monster hungry for human flesh, and without any chance of escape, would be devoured messily.
Their screams echoing within the halls of the Labyrinth, as they begged for mercy, as they screamed to be saved.
"that is why the skeletons are there. they were food that my father would give to me. they were the innocent children that I killed and ate. that home that i can summon will always have those there."
"…"
"after that, a Hero called theseus went into the labyrinth and stopped me from killing more children."
"The Athenian Hero with Ariadne's thread… He was the one that slayed the Minotaur, the one who brought an end to the horrible sacrifices of King Minos."
The young Hero heard of the horrible sacrifices, and vowed to stop such a horrible act. Theseus, with the help of the Princess of Crete, Ariadne, ventured into the Labyrinth.
With the string given to him by the princess he could move within the halls without fear of getting lost, and so he ventured deeper and deeper.
Until finally he met with the beast that lived within the Labyrinth.
Theseus saw the inhuman eyes that he had, he saw the wicked horns from his head, he saw the terrifying physique of the beast, he saw it covered in the blood of the innocents that it had killed.
Theseus also saw the scared child that stood before him. Confused of the world around it, confused of what it had to do to survive.
Theseus moved, and put an end to the suffering of the boy, for once seeing it as a human child rather than the abomination that it had been seen as for so long.
"Are you saying that he killed you Asterios?"
"yes."
"Then, how are you here?"
"all i remember was dying by his hands. happy that a Hero finally killed me-"
"!"
"but then I woke up by that man who summoned me. He wanted the Minotaur, and tried to feed me more humans to make me stronger."
"Then I showed up."
Once more he found himself covered in the blood of the innocent, after he had thought to have been freed from the horror of his existence.
Once more he had heard the screams of those that begged for mercy, only to be mercilessly eaten by his jaws.
His rage, and his anger at the freedom that had been ripped away from him, exploded, and once more the beast found itself covered in blood.
And when it ran, when it hid away in the dark.
She approached him.
"And let me guess, she found you in the basement?"
"yes…"
She offered the beast food, it took it gratefully as it was fed something that wasn't human flesh. She offered it kindness, giving it an offer to join with her.
And most importantly.
"She did."
She offered him his own human identity. Allowing himself to be reminded of the name that he was born with.
He was the Minotaur, but he was also Asterios.
[Scene]
"and that's everything…" Asterios finished looking at the rest of the club members, his expression had barely shifted from the stoic look that he seemed to always have.
The same couldn't be said for the others.
All across he could see them staring at him with sad eyes, Yuuto himself looked twice as regretful.
"I see," Rias moved towards where Asterios was sitting. Her hands reached up and gently pulled his head towards chest and drew him into a hug. "I'm sorry to have asked such a story from you Asterios," she spoke to him, her hand running through his (Surprisingly) soft hair.
"its fine president," he replied "now that you know, if you want me to leave then-"
He was cut short by a weak, but noticeable jab into his stomach by Koneko. Her yellow eyes glaring into him.
"That's not necessary Asterios," Rias smiled "I've said it before, you are now part of the Occult Research Club and considering how long you've joined us for almost every venture, you're practically part of the Gremory family. The Gremory take care of each other," She pulled away and stared into his eyes "And right now, that includes you."
He face blushed red at the words, and he nodded "thank you… president."
[Scene]
"You know, there was something you didn't answer back there." Koneko spoke from Asterios' right shoulder.
The disguised Minotaur turned his head towards her with a quizzical look.
She fidgeted in place for a moment, before she took a deep breath "That maze, how are you able to summon it?"
"i just can," he answered "something inside me told me that i could. and that the fact that i could summon it, was the proof of my existence."
"But aren't you afraid of it?" She asked him "Doesn't it remind you of so many scary memories?"
"it does, but those memories are who i am." He turned his head, staring ahead of him "and even though they scare me, i shouldn't forget or ignore them."
"Oh…" Koneko looked in front of her as well "I see."
She leaned her head onto Asterios' as they continued their walk.
"Hey Asterios?"
"yes?"
"When we get home, I wanna show you something as well."
