Cassandra Fraiser had always done very well in school. Friends, grades, boy friends, it all came easily. She wasn't a nerd or anything; she just knew she needed good grades to get into the Stargate Program. That was her goal: go to med school, maybe enlist in the Air Force afterwards, and since she already knew about the Stargate she would be the most likely candidate for a medical position their. All in all, she like school and had never gotten in any trouble. Well...except for the time in 8th grade when she punched a kid for saying that he wanted to grow up and kill aliens. But he deserved it.
So Cassandra Fraiser stared in horror at the letter in hand, still not believing it. With dread filling each step she walked slowly home. It had been her first day back at school since recovering from Nefertiti's little experiment. She had written a note this morning to give to all her teachers explaining the absence and her mother had signed. She had showed it to her first period teacher and had been startled when the teacher turned to her and asked, "Is this a joke?"
When she had shook her head the teacher had sent her to the principal's office where the principal had read the note. He had then told her that forging her mother's signature to get out of the class for over two weeks was not acceptable. He had printed up a notice of suspension and promptly dismissed her from school for the next two days, and had told her it would appear on her permanent record.
With a heavy heart she walked into her house. Janet was surprised to see her daughter home so early, and from the look on Cassie's face, Janet knew it was serious.
"What's wrong sweetie?" Janet asked.
"You remember the note you signed for me? Explaining the absence?" Janet nodded. In truth she hadn't read it, just signed and ushered Cassie towards the bus.
"They think I forged the signature. I got suspended!" Cassie flung her backpack down on the ground and looked at her mother's confused face.
"Why did they think that?" Janet asked. Cassie just shrugged. "Let me see the note." Cassie rummaged through her backpack and handed the note to her mother. Janet used every fiber of her being not to laugh out loud at what the note said.
To Whom It May Concern:
My daughter, Cassandra Fraiser, has been absent from school due to reasons that are classified top secret. I cannot tell you why as it would threaten nation security, but I assure you it was a good reason. Please excuse her absences.
Thank you,
Janet Fraiser, MD
"Its okay Cassie, I'll call the school and explain everything. And next time, let me right the excuse okay?" Cassie nodded, and went up to her room.
Janet picked up the phone and quickly dialed the number she knew by heart.
"Sam? You won't believe what Cassie just did..."
