Remus and Tonks were sat in the living room of headquarters together, it was late long after midnight and the inhabitants of the house were all fast asleep. They'd had the children in the past for a month now and each day they'd spent with their son, getting to know the young boy who they would one day get to create but not raise. It was heart-breaking knowing that he'd grow up an orphan, without them in his life. They hoped that when he eventually returned to his own time, he'd understand how much they loved him.

"I don't want to leave him alone, Remus," Tonks whispered as she stared at the dying embers in the fireplace.

"He won't be alone Dora, he has your mum, Harry, the Weasley's, our son has grown up loved and I'm sure we are watching over him," Remus replied wrapping his arms around the woman he was growing to love.

"He doesn't have us though; he's grown up without parents." Tonks whispered.

"Our future selves die making the world a safe place for our son to grow up in. I have no doubt that our friends love our son, that they share stories with him about us, about how much we love him. We have to treasure our time with him now, it's a gift few will ever experience," he told her, quietly pulling her shaking body against his chest.

I wish we got to see him grow up," she whispered, tears streaking down her porcelain cheeks,

"Me too Dora," he replied, a single tear escaping his amber eyes.

Together they stayed before the dying fire, each of them grieving for the life they will never get to live, grieving for themselves and the young boy they had both fallen in love with in such a short space if time. Often life was the most unfair to those that deserve it least. There only solace was that they knew Teddy was growing up loved.
