Sidon opened the door to Mipha's old room, and he and Paya both gasped at what they saw. A medium-sized table had been set up inside the large room, and the lights were dimmed. Two chairs sat on each end of the table, facing each other, and three candles were lit and flickering in the middle of the table, which sat in the midst of an ornate centerpiece made with a bountiful blue floral centerpiece. Oh no. Not again.
Paya gasped. "How did you...did you set this up, my prince?"
"No, I did not," he answered truthfully. "My father had something to do with this." He had a worried look on his face, and Paya saw it in his eyes.
"What's wrong, Sidon?"
"Oh, my father likes to 'help' with my dates." I'm sure I can resist again, like I always do.
Paya giggled. "That's kind of sweet."
It would be if it weren't for those flowers.
Paya lifted her arms to his face to place her hands on his cheeks, and Sidon gently turned his head down toward hers. "I love it, Sidon. This is a perfect way to end our perfect day together."
His stomach flipped with nervous anticipation. A knock at the door interrupted their conversation. A voice came from the other side, and Sidon answered it. It was one of the Zora butlers, arriving with several covered plates in tow. Without a word, he quickly set up the plates, arranging them perfectly for the couple. He brought in two large diamond-embellished royal wine glasses and filled them each halfway with the finest aged wine in Zora's Domain.
"Enjoy your meal, Your Highness. Enjoy your meal, my lady. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. I will be just down the hall." He took a bow toward each of them and left the room, closing the door behind him.
Paya could only stare, speechless at what she had just witnessed. She had never been treated like royalty before. Sidon gently guided her to one of the chairs, pulling it from the table so she could sit, and he scooted her gently toward the edge of the table, placing a napkin over her lap before he pushed her chair back in completely. He then took his own seat, facing her.
Their meal was the best she ever had, full of the finest foods she had ever tasted. Hearty Bass braised in goat butter, fish broth, and Zora wine was the main dish, accompanied by a large portion of sauteed Hearty Truffles and Hearty Radishes. A small bowl of perfectly cooked, salted, and buttered Hylian rice flecked with Hyrule Herbs sat next to each of their plates. She felt like royalty by the time they were finished, never having eaten anything in her life that tasted so good, except for possibly the food at the Royal Wedding.
When their meals were gone and the wine had been finished, Paya felt a deep feeling of need well up from within. Her attention was drawn to the floral centerpiece, and she took a closer look at the flowers. Oh no! That's Blue Nightshade! I know exactly what that's for!
As a Sheikah, she knew the primary use of Blue Nightshade. She was glad the lights were dimmed to conceal the redness of her cheeks at the realization. Blue Nightshade was a powerful aphrodisiac, and the Sheikah had used the intoxicating flower primarily for that reason since ancient times. The flowers could be boiled to make a stronger oil, but the flowers themselves were enough to cause a powerful physical effect. Paya glanced breathlessly toward the bed, praying she would hold on to her last thread of self-control as the aphrodisiac flowers gradually continued to blend with her senses. Unfortunately for her, the Blue Nightshade was beginning to have an effect on Sidon too, and she saw how his eyes had a different kind of look to them as he stared at her from across the table. He suddenly stood up, walking slowly toward her, and he lifted her up into his arms, cradling her.
"My sweet, tender Paya..." He gently laid her down on the water bed, and her stomach was in knots as she tried to resist the effects of the Blue Nightshade. He gently lay beside her, gazing deeply into her eyes. Sidon was breathing hard, trying unsuccessfully to control himself. I've been able to resist every other time! What a fool I am! It's because I love her. Why did Father have to do this to me? He knew the answer to his question; the king desperately wanted grandchildren, but Sidon never told his father that he always wanted to marry a female first before...going farther than he would have preferred. Now he wasn't so sure he could control himself this time, thanks to that centerpiece sitting not so innocently in the middle of the dining table.
Paya never wanted anyone more than she wanted him at that moment. She kissed him, and he pulled his face away from her more forcefully than she would have expected.
"What's wrong, my prince? Do you not want this?"
Paya, I promise it's not you. I want to kiss you more than anything. It's...just the Blue Nightshade. Would you mind if I place the centerpiece outside?"
"Not at all, my prince, but please hurry back. I need you."
His stomach flipped at her words, but he knew they were both in an altered state of mind, and he had to put a stop to it. He quickly moved to the table, taking the centerpiece into his arms and tossing it outside into the hall as far as he could throw it, trying not to breathe in the pollen or the scent of the flowers as he did so. He came back inside the room and shut the door, closing his eyes and taking several more deep breaths. Her scent was strongly intoxicating now, and it beckoned him forward. He could not resist following it all the way back to where she was lying on the bed. How he loved the sight of her! He couldn't resist climbing back onto the bed with her again. He bent down over her, careful not to put his full weight against her. He kissed her passionately, eventually moving from her mouth to her neck. Oh, how sweet her skin tasted on his tongue!
Suddenly he felt a wave of relief wash over him as the effects of the Nightshade quickly wore off.
Paya was trembling. The effects of the flowers suddenly wore off for her too, and her eyes widened in near terror at the realization of what they might have done if Sidon hadn't put a stop to it. She couldn't stop the tears from dripping down her cheeks.
"My sweet Paya, I pray you will forgive me."
"Forgive you? For what?"
He gently wiped her tears as his own tears welled up in his eyes. "I should have taken the centerpiece out of the room immediately, but whenever my father did this before I was always able to resist. That was my mistake."
"Sidon, you have shown me such love and compassion for removing it at all. There is nothing to forgive."
He sighed. "My father desperately wants to be a Grandfather. He's been badgering me for years to find a mate, and I've never told him my wishes when it comes to matters of the heart. It appears I need to have a conversation with him. I'm sorry I never did before."
"Sidon, please don't apologize. I understand. And I am so thankful to you for putting a stop to it. You are a very honorable Zora." She never loved him more than she had in that moment, and she wondered silently if he felt the same.
He smiled and took her hand and walked with her to the door, then called the butler. The Zora butler hurriedly removed everything from the room and carried it away while Paya and Sidon waited in the hall outside, holding hands. The lights in the room were fully lit, and they both went back inside the room after the butler left. Sidon gently lifted Paya and carried her to the back of the room where the waterbed was, lifting the blankets before placing her tenderly onto the bed, then tucking her in.
"Goodnight, my prince. Today was the best day of my life. Thank you, Sidon, for everything you've done. I love...spending time with you." She hesitated, nearly confessing her love, but she was too afraid to say it.
"I love spending time with you too, angel of mine. I'll see you in the morning." He bent down to sweetly kiss her on the lips once again. The Zora Prince left the room, closing the door behind him, heading straight to have a serious conversation with his father.
