Mimosa Vermillion Magic Lesson: Plant Lesson
Mimosa Vermillion, queen of the Clover Kingdom and former vice captain of the Golden Dawn, uses Plant Magic. Her expert use in this magic allows her to use both defensive and offensive spells, and one could argue that if it weren't for her quick thinking, the Wizard King may not have lived to become the Wizard King.
After her marriage to Yuno and the birth of her daughter, the Vermilions and many other members of the royal family hoped for this Plant Magic to be passed down to Mimosa's daughter (rather than Yuno's 'unsightly and violent' Wind Magic), the princess of the Clover Kingdom.
Did the Vermillions get their wish, or did something else end up happening?
"My mother gave me the information on the carriage carrying the Clover Kingdom sorcerer soldier potentials, and instructed me to greet them." Sherry blushed, looking quite embarrassed as Aurora, Atlas, Joel, and nearly everyone else in the vicinity stared at her.
"Princess…" Atlas' eyes were wide and his mouth agape as Sherry spoke. "I'm in the presence of a princess…"
"Atlas!" Aurora whispered, softly hitting him in the ribs. "Compose yourself at once in the presence of a royal."
She then cleared her throat and smiled widely. "It's an honor to meet you, Princess Sherry! My name is Lady Aurora Edelias, the first born child of the Edelias family."
Sherry Vermillion is the daughter of King Yuno and his wife, Queen Mimosa Vermillion. She is their first and so far only child, set to inherit the throne one day if all goes as planned.
Despite Mimosa being the one responsible for Sherry's status as a royal, Sherry, for the most part, takes after her father in appearance.
Sherry is a young girl with an average build and fair skin. She's not too muscular but she's not exactly completely out of shape. She has green eyes like her mother and short and messy wavy black hair just like her father.
She wears a puffy black sweater with long sleeves, dark brown puffy short pants, and a gray corset. The corset is tied at the front with strings. Her footwear consists of a pair of brown leather boots that are tightly fit to her legs and extend above her knees.
Aurora grabbed the skirt of her dress and politely curtsied. Atlas glared at her, most likely due to the "first born" comment, but also offered up a bow.
"Lord Atlas Edelias, also one of the first born children of the Edelias family. I just happen to be the younger one by a few minutes" Atlas laughed.
Joel looked rather awkward, scratching his head. "Er, nice to meet you! Sorry, I'm not sure on the proper way to greet someone so...important."
"Joel!" Aurora gasped. "As a noble, I thought you'd know. You're supposed to bow and introduce yourself with your title and family name."
"Oh no, it's quite alright!" Sherry nervously giggled, blushing profusely. "Please don't make such a big deal out of introducing yourself to me, I'm human just like the rest of you!"
"But you're not just any regular human, you're the princess and heir to the throne." Atlas excitedly said. "That puts you leagues ahead of the rest of us when it comes to status! Ooo, you've probably met the Wizard King, haven't you?! I know him and King Yuno are basically like brothers!"
Sherry slowly nodded. "Well, yes, I have gotten to speak to Asta a number of times, but nothing too in depth due to all of his duties."
"Still, that must be so interesting!" Aurora beamed. "But what I think is personally, erm, cool, is the fact that you're the daughter of the King Yuno! I mean, he was apart of the winning team during the Royal Knight Selection Exams, became one with the son of Licht and Tetia, helped defeat the first Devil to infiltrate the Clover Kingdom and the Dark Triad, married Mimosa during the whole election debacle, and-"
"I think she gets it, Aurora." Atlas laughed, noticing Sherry's awkward expression.
"Sorry…" Aurora blushed.
"It's alright," Sherry said. "But to me he's just my dad, and Asta is almost like an uncle. I don't want my status as royalty to be such a big deal here in the Ace Kingdom."
"Oh so you're one of those royals, huh?"
All eyes turned to the blonde boy with messy hair who first called out to Aurora, Atlas, and Joel.
"You claim to hate the attention and say you're just like the rest of us, when you dress like that." He said, gesturing to Sherry's formal outfit. "Newsflash, princess. If it looks like a royal and smells like a royal, it's a royal. Maybe stop being so goddamn gaudy and people won't be able to spot you from a mile away."
"My mother picked out this outfit." Sherry sadly whimpered.
"Hey!" Aurora snapped at the boy. "Have some respect for the future queen of the Clover Kingdom. Who do you think you are anyway?"
"None of your business, bitch." The blonde boy shrugged.
"I'm sorry, I must've heard you wrong because it sounds like you just called my sister a bitch." Atlas glared, flashing his pointy teeth and his sharp nails, slightly resembling claws.
"And what are you going to do about it, shark boy?" The blonde boy asked. "Do you want to duel it out right here right now?"
"Gladly." Atlas smirked. "Soul M-"
"Hey, hey, cut it out!" A soft voice interrupted from behind the blonde boy.
A blonde girl emerged, much shorter and neater looking than the blonde boy.
"There's no need to fight everyone!" She insisted. "We should all just smile and get to know one another instead! I mean, it's not everyday you get to stand outside waiting to get your grimoire." She innocently smiled.
"You say that like standing outside waiting around is an exciting activity..." Joel deadpanned.
"Well sure it is." The blonde girl exclaimed. "Just think, there's people six feet underneath the ground, while we're above the ground getting to live and wait like this!"
"Glynis, I think that just might be the dumbest thing you've said." The blonde boy sneered, turning his attention away from Aurora and Atlas.
"Thank you, Admetus!" Glynis beamed.
"I'm sorry if I've caused any trouble, princess." Sherry sighed, bowing her head. "I never meant to upset you or Admetus."
"Oh, it's no problem!" Glynis claimed. "Admetus is just being a big old grump, you've done nothing wrong! Something tells me Admetus is just a little homesick, that's all."
"That could not be farther from the trut-" Glynis began to pull Admetus away mid conversation.
"Come on, Admetus! Let's go look at the plants they have here in the Ace Kingdom." She excitedly said, running with Admetus' hand in her own.
"I could care less about plants!" Admetus yelled, but Glynis ignored him and the two were soon out of sight.
"Well, that was certainly an introduction." Joel nervously laughed. "Do you know those two, Sherry?"
"Yeah, you called her princess." Aurora noted. "Who is she?"
"Who is he?" Atlas said in disgust. "Tell me, he must be some peasant from the Spade Kingdom or something, right?"
Sherry shook her head. "I just met the two of them in person today, but I've been in correspondence with Glynis since I was young. She's the heir of the Heart Kingdom throne so my parents and hers kinda forced us to become occasional pen pals…"
"She's the heir of the Heart Kingdom?" Joel gasped. "But she seems so...well so…"
"Childish." Aurora finished for him. "Nothing like a future queen. Not to mention her awful...how is that Admetus guy related to her?"
"Um, I believe he is her cousin." Sherry said, glancing over at the two. "I've never heard of him outside of what Glynis mentions in her letters...oh my, I think I'm giving too much information away about them…"
"You got that right, princess." One of Sherry's guards spoke up. "How about you come back over here? I'm sure Queen Mimosa will be satisfied with how much you've spoken to the Clover citizens."
Sherry nodded. "Yes, I think I've done enough talking…"
"It's been a pleasure getting to meet you, princess." Atlas smiled. "See ya at the ceremony!"
"Hopefully whenever we can talk again, no noisy nobodies will bother us." Aurora giggled.
Sherry gave a soft smile, but still looked awkward as her face flushed a deep red. "Um, thank you for talking to me! I'll see you later."
She quickly scurried off to stand with her guards.
"Well, that was an experience." Joel remarked. "Glynis is the princess of the Heart Kingdom...so her name must be Glynis Boltor." He concluded.
Aurora nodded. "Daughter of King and Queen Boltor. I can't believe I've never heard of her before. And especially how...spirited she is…"
"Maybe that's why you've never heard of her!" Atlas laughed. "Can't imagine old King and Queen Boltor are pleased to have such a ball of innocent energy for a daughter."
"Oh, quite the contrary, actually."
An unfamiliar girl with magenta hair approached the trio.
"Everyone in the Heart Kingdom absolutely adores Glynis. Despite her naivety and seemingly dimwitted demeanor, she actually is quite the good heir. She has incredible favor with royals and peasants alike, and has done a fantastic job as a princess despite her young age." The girl remarked.
"Wow...you sure know a lot about her!" Joel said. "Are you from the Heart Kingdom too?"
The girl shook her head. "Kandy Avalon. Future magic researcher, current magic researcher student and Sorcerer Soldier recruit."
Kandy Avalon is the definition of intelligent. Born into a fairly wealthy family from the Ace Kingdom, Kandy has spent years making a name for herself in the small community of the Ace Kingdom, which has caused her to be one of the youngest mages scouted by a captain. Unfortunately, due to her lack of a grimoire, she hasn't officially gotten to join yet and must go through the exams like everyone else.
She is a little on the shorter side, but not dramatically so like Petula. She has long, magenta colored hair which she wears in a ponytail. It reaches her mid-back at full length. Her eyes are a light hazel color, and a lilac bow holds her hair up.
She wears a simple outfit consisting of a lilac dress with green accents, and brown boots.
"Magic researcher student." Aurora repeated with a nod. "That's a program for Ace Kingdom citizens, right?"
Kandy nodded. "Ran by the Vice Captain of the Amber Owls, the squad which I hope to join. I was actually supposed to already be in there, but I have yet to obtain my grimoire."
"Which brings us here." Atlas surmised. "You seem like an awfully smart cookie! If the exams involve any type of intelligent test, you'll definitely knock it out of the park."
Kandy smiled. "Well, thank you. I suspect I'll do well on the exams. I just hope I don't knock you out of the park."
Atlas raised a brow. "What do you mean?"
"Oh you don't know?" Kandy tilted her head. "Just because you applied to take the exam doesn't mean you're guaranteed to finish through to the end. The exams involve multiple rounds, each of which will see the elimination of those who fail to score adequately."
Atlas gulped. "Well, let me rephrase that...If the exams involve any type of intelligence test, I'll be knocked out of the park."
"I wouldn't worry." Kandy said. "I can sense intense mana from all three of you. Especially you two."
Kandy pointed to Atlas and Joel.
Atlas narrowed his eyes, while Joel smiled.
"You think my magic is strong?" He asked in a hopeful tone.
"Strong...I'm not sure. But definitely intense." Kandy answered.
"Oh…" Joel's smile immediately fell.
"And as for you," Kandy turned to Aurora. "You...you have a type of summoning magic don't you?"
Aurora nodded. "Yes! How did you know?"
"I sense several ranges of mana within you." Kandy answered. "They range from intense to weak, and even some that fluctuate from intense to weak. Summoning magic is tricky. You can either make it into something powerful, or rely on it so much you yourself become weak."
Aurora smiled, bowing slightly. "Thank you for your knowledge. I'm constantly working on bettering myself and making sure I grow alongside my magic."
"Good." Kandy said. "Well, I'm off to introduce myself to the other recruits. I'm trying to meet another magic researcher student…" She muttered as she walked off.
"Strange girl." Atlas remarked with a frown. "I don't like her."
"Why not?" Joel questioned. "Cause she's smarter than you?"
"No!" Atlas quickly objected. "I just...don't know."
Aurora looked concerned, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Don't mind any of the remarks she made about your magic. Soul Magic is difficult, she probably doesn't understand how intense it is. Remember, there's no need to feel guilty about the fact that eating souls adds to your life span."
Atlas nervously smiled, slowly nodding. "...Yeah, you're right. I'll just shrug it off."
"That's my little brother," Aurora joked, ruffling Atlas' hair.
"Oh!" Joel gasped. "Brother. Where is he? You guys mentioned him on the carriage, I thought he'd be here waiting for you."
Aurora and Atlas simultaneously gulped.
"Oh, uh…" Atlas stared up at the sky.
"In all the chaos after meeting Princess Sherry, we completely forgot!" Aurora lied. "Thank you so much for reminding us, Joel! Atlas, let's go look for him!"
"Uh, yeah!" Atlas quickly nodded. "Be right back, Joel!"
The two waved and then quickly scurried off as Joel just stood there, dumbfounded.
"They left me alone…"
Atlas and Aurora made it to the outskirts of the group, where no one could see them.
"Sheesh, that was close." Atlas sighed. "But cool that he reminded us! C'mon, let's bring Matsu out!"
Aurora nervously looked around. "Are you sure? I mean, there's so many people around, what if we get caught?"
Atlas rolled his eyes. "I'm sure it'll be fine, everyone's either focused on Sherry, anxiety about the grimoire ceremony, or anxiety about the sorcerer soldier exams."
Aurora pursed her lips before sighing, pulling her book out of her satchel. "Fine. But let's make this quick…"
Meanwhile, while Aurora and Atlas were summoning Matsu, a mysterious pair watched the two from the shadows of the forest.
"One of them is definitely going to be in our squad, boss." A male voice remarked. "I can feel it."
"You better be right." Another male voice sneered. "If I get that Soul Magic on my hands, I'll have anything I want, and deserve! No more of Captain's bullshit."
"You got it, boss." The first voice said. "Just which one will it be is the question?"
"Either will suffice." 'Boss' answered. "However, I have my eyes on one in particular…"
The two continued to discuss their malicious plans, just as Aurora and Atlas are finishing up the summoning process.
"And...Wander!"
The doll sat on the ground, Matsu's soul engulfing it. Slowly, he started to appear, one feature after another until…
…
…
…
"Hello." Matsu said.
"MATSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" Aurora and Atlas tackled Matsu down on the ground, hugging him tightly.
"It felt so terrible being away from you." Atlas remarked, beginning to cry. "I'm sorry we took so long!"
"Don't worry, Matsu!" Aurora said. "From now on, you'll be out and about just like Atlas and I."
"I'm glad." Matsu said. "Although, I feel a little suffocated from your embrace."
Atlas and Aurora quickly let go, standing up and dusting themselves off.
"May I ask where we are?" Matsu asked as Atlas helped him off the ground.
"Some chapel in the border forest of the Ace Kingdom." Atlas answered. "Aurora and I will be receiving our grimoires later on."
"Ah, I was supposed to receive a grimoire before I died." Matsu revealed. "Unfortunately I didn't make it to 15."
Aurora sadly frowned. "I know, Matsu, I know…"
"Hey, what the hell are you doing?"
A familiar voice emerged from behind the trio.
"Damn it…" Atlas muttered, slowly turning around.
Admetus and Glynis both stood, the former looking pissed off and the latter looking very curious.
Admetus is a bit of a mysterious figure. He's Glynis' cousin, but not much is known about him. The only thing is that he has a bad attitude and doesn't seem to like royalty.
Admetus is fairly well built and rugged for his age, with fair skin, piercing sparkling blue eyes and unruly blond hair that is only combed back on the right side. His expression is usually conformed into a frown or scowl.
He wears what looks to be a sort of Royal Guard military uniform. With a white jacket, gold trimming and matching white pants that are tucked into his knee high white boots with gold trim as well.
"Are you guys doing something fun?" Glynis asked. "I want to join in!"
Glynis is a fairly small girl with skin paler than her cousin. Her big sparkling blue eyes are always looking in awe at even the most simplest of items. She has her long blond hair pulled into a braid at the bangs and two pigtails are pulled together at the bottom of her hair, extending over her shoulders down to her chest.
She wears a simple white smiling angel's lotus ruffled blouse with a green dress on over that extends down to her ankles and black ankle boots
"We're talking with our brother, not that it's any of your business." Aurora frowned.
"Tch, you two are just talking to your brother, huh? You look suspicious as hell standing around in this area." Admetus crossed his arms.
"But you're standing around out here with us…" Matsu said matter-of-factly.
"Aw, your brother looks exactly like you two!" Glynis remarked, gasping in awe. "But what happened to his eyes? Why are they covered?"
Admetus' eyes widened. "Glynis! Even if the two of them are insufferable nobility, that's not something you should bring up…"
"What's wrong with just asking a question?" Glynis asked, tilting her head.
Atlas rolled his eyes. "Control your cousin, anger issues."
"You control your mouth, pointy teeth." Admetus glared.
"I know you're not talking about appearances when your hair is messier than a bird's nest." Aurora scoffed.
"Oh, I can make it even messier after pummeling you to the ground." Admetus said haughtily. "I'm sure some triplets from the Clover Kingdom of all places wouldn't be able to handle the power of a Heart Kingdom mage."
"Oh, so now you want to compare kingdoms?" Atlas laughed. "Remind me, which one of our kingdoms is considered the most powerful in the realm?"
And thus, Atlas, Aurora, and Admetus ended up in a heated argument, screaming over each other and causing quite the scene. Glynis desperately tried to mend the situation, trying to interrupt and change the topic of conversation, but her efforts didn't do any good as the three ignored her.
As they argued, Matsu spotted a group of four looking at him with curious expressions, so naturally, he decided to abandon Atlas and Aurora and investigate.
"Hello." He said as he walked up to them. "My name is Matsu Edelias, a noble from the Clover Kingdom. I am the triplet brother of Aurora and Atlas Edelias."
"You're with the twins?" The boy with two piercings on his ear asked. "Huh. Thought those two just came by themselves; I didn't see you there."
"Noble." The short girl with purple hair repeated, twirling her hair. "But you do not introduce yourself with your title?"
"My apologies, I just came back from being kidnapped." Matsu answered dryly. "I haven't been fully caught up on noble customs."
"Oh geez, that's terrible!" A scary looking tall boy said. "Ami, maybe you shouldn't have brought that up…"
"...Sorry." Ami awkwardly said, staring at the ground.
"It's ok." Matsu said. "I've been through worse. I've even die...I've even almost died before."
"Same here, friend!" A teal haired boy with pointed ears smiled. "The price of being a peasant, I suppose!"
"Who are you four?" Matsu asked. "I'd like to know your names, if possible."
"Sure thing!" Piercing boy beamed. "I'll go first! The name's…"
