The days that followed their first day of rehearsal were chaotic for both Maya and Josh. Here's a schedule for reference.

Thursday- Top Twenty Rehearsal

Friday- Small Group Rehearsals

Saturday- ALL Dances Rehearsed

Sunday- Dress Rehearsal

Monday- Live Show

Tuesday- Results

So you can only imagine just how tired each and every dancer was. They were spending about about ten hours a day rehearsing, making sure every single move was right. Needless to say, Josh and Maya haven't spent much time together if any at all. It was a routine. Wake up, eat, dance, sleep, repeat. So there wasn't much room for anything or anyone else. By Sunday, everyones nerves were at an all time high. They were all dressed from head to toe in their costumes for tomorrow nights live show. Maya was dressed in a short white flowing dress as she was doing a contemporary routine for her first routine on the show. As she waited quietly for her turn to perform, Josh quietly snuck up behind her. "Hey there," he whispered as he softly ran his hands up her arms.

Maya melted into his touch and smiled. "Hey," she replied as she turned around in his arms. "Shouldn't you be changing for your small group number? I'm getting ready to go on soon with Ricky."

Josh nodded. "Yeah I should be. I just wanted to see you for a second. I feel like I haven't seen you at all." Maya just nodded and nestled her head into his bare chest. "Wanna sneak out tonight?" Josh whispered. Maya pulled her head back and looked up at him with an eyebrow raised. "Come on it'll be fun. Besides I can finally take you out on a proper date."

Maya turned attention behind her and noted that it was her time to go onstage. "Fine," she relented. "Now go! I have to go and I don't want you to run late."

Josh pecked her lips and bounced away happily as he called out to her, "See you later gorgeous."

Their day ended at a decent hour as by six o'clock, Joshua Matthews was standing in front of his bathroom mirror fixing his hair. He could tell that Maya had been off ever since he saw her when they arrived in L.A. They just a needed a night to themselves to really build a connection. To really open up those lines of communication that had been missing those past few months. As Josh finished fixing himself he took one last look at himself in the mirror before he psyched himself up for the night.

Josh left his room and walked towards Maya's which was only a few doors down from his. Josh stood in front of the door and knocked politely as he waited eagerly for Maya to open up. As he looked down at his shoes once more, Maya opened up the door. As Josh looked up, he traced her body from the bottom to the very top. A long beautiful flowing black dress that hugged her in all the right places, with black heels that showed off her dancers feet. Her long blonde hair frames her face in beautiful bouncy curls that he could tell were from this evenings rehearsal. "Wow," he said speechless. "You look amazing." He held out his hand for her to grasp. "Shall we?"

Maya took Josh's hand into hers and followed his lead as they made it down to a restaurant in the hotel. Maya laughed quietly to herself. "And here I was thinking you were gonna take me to the pier."

Josh's eyes widened as he realized that might've been a better idea than just dinner. "The pier? I had no idea you wanted to go to the pier. I can take you to the pier if you want. I just have to cancel our reservation here and I can get us an Uber down there in like five minutes."

Maya cut off his babbling and squeezed his hand. "I was kidding Josh. This is perfect."

Josh nervously rubbed the back of his neck. "Good thing I'm not nervous right? I just want tonight to be a good night for us. We've barely seen each other since we've been here and I just want to make you happy."

Maya smiled softly with the left side of her mouth raising a bit higher than the right as she stared at the man in front of her. "You're sweet," she said right before she kissed him.

"I try," Josh admitted, letting his usual sly demeanor peek through. "Come on beautiful, let's eat."

The pair had a wonderful evening at dinner. Laughing and really getting to know each other. They hadn't gotten a chance before to actually sit down and date so this was a welcome change. After dinner they took a moment to walk down the streets of L.A. enjoying each other's company as the watched the sun set. "So," Josh began. "I did have something I wanted to talk to you about while I had you all to myself."

"Okay," Maya began. "I'll bite. What's up?" she asked as she rubbed Josh's hand with her thumb as they walked hand in hand.

Josh stopped walking and pulled her over to the side as people walked past them on the street. "You've been distant ever since we got back, and I know its been hard with not being able to talk during the break and everything but I just thought you'd-"

"I'd what?" Maya said defensively as she took her hand out of his. "I thought we agreed to focus this week. We're both trying to get far in this competition. I've just been really trying to get myself together this week. I thought you knew that."

Josh was taken aback by her defensiveness and was racking his brain trying to figure out how to turn this conversation around, but as he thought more and more he needed to stand his ground on this one. He'd been pushed around in his last relationship and wanted this one to be different so he stuck his ground. "I do Maya. This competition means a lot to me too. I just thought that we were sticking by each other through this." Josh took a deep breath. "Look," he began. "You started acting different before we even left for the break."

Maya rolled her eyes and started to walk past him. "There's nothing to talk about here Josh. Everything's fine. We're just doing our own thing."

Josh turned around to face Maya's back and called out to her, "Can you not walk away from me? I just want to talk about this."

Maya stopped walking and turned around to face Josh. "Like I said there's nothing to talk about here. I've been transparent about how I feel about all of this. Yes, I care about you but I also care about my future on this show. We can't get distracted."

"Maya you're not a distraction. We're doing this together. Like we said." Josh was so confused right now he had just been trying to understand what was going on with her. "Why are you being like this? You're so hot and cold and I don't understand you. We literally just had an amazing dinner together."

"Josh listen to what I am saying. I am fine. We are fine. I just don't want to get too wrapped up into this when we both came here with sole purpose of putting our best foot forward and winning this competition." Josh cocked his head to the side and contorted his face into one of disbelief.

"You can't be serious right now."

"Josh I-" Maya was cut off by the sound of someone calling out both of their names.

A young girl who looked to be no older than sixteen ran up to the pair excitedly. "Oh my god! You guys are Josh and Maya right! From America's Best Dancer! I've watched the show religiously for years but this season is my favorite because of you two! You both are amazing dancers and the fact that you're together is even better! Can I please get a picture with you guys?"

Josh just stood there with his mouth open in shock at the fact that this girl even recognized who they were. "Um sure," he said as he came back to reality. He and Maya stopped and took a quick picture with the girl before she left and promised she'd vote for them tomorrow night. Turning his attention back towards Maya he shook his head and took a deep breath. "You're acting weird. The person in front of me right now isn't the same person that kissed me when she found out she made it into the top twenty. I don't know what's going on with you but you need to grow up and talk to me about it. Because I can't do this if you won't talk to me."

Maya ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. In that moment she chose to ignore everything her heart wanted and to go for what her mind wanted. "Like I said everything is fine. Can we just go back to the hotel now. I don't want to talk about this anymore. Please."

That night Josh and Maya laid down back to back not speaking to one another as the tension in the air was thick. They ignored each other throughout the entire morning as they ran their final dress rehearsal and prepared for the live show later that evening. As Josh stood backstage a mere five minutes before the show, he picked up his phone and held it to his ear. "Hey valentine," the sweet voice echoed.

Josh smiled to himself as he spoke softly. "Hey mom."

"Shouldn't you be getting ready right now? Me and dad are sitting in the living room camped out by the TV waiting for your show to come on. We're so proud of you." There was a pause for a moment before she continued. "You're going to do amazing honey. Dad and I have our cellphones and the house phone on standby so that we can max our votes for you tonight."

Josh laughed aloud and looked around him as chaos started to ensue as they started to get closer and closer to the top of the show. "Things are starting to get crazy around here. I should probably go. I love you mom."

"I love you too. Good luck honey."

Josh still held the phone up to his ear as he heard his mom hang up. Boy did he miss her. She still believed in him no matter what. He had to do this. Not only for him but for her too. He was so lucky to have a supportive mother like Amy in his life so he had to do right by her. He was going to make it to the very end of this competition. He had no choice. He wasn't going to let his fight with Maya last night impact his performance tonight. He had the group routine, his Paso Doble, and his small group hip hop routine tonight and he was going to kill it. No matter what.

Thirty seconds to places was called and Josh jogged out to his spot for the top of the number. Spotting Maya a few feet away from him, he threw her a soft smile despite their frustrations with each other as the lights suddenly turned on and shined on them brightly.

The music began to play through the monitors they had on stage as Josh looked out and saw the sound stage full of people. It was finally showtime.
