The rest of the week went by in a blur. Before Josh and Maya knew it was Sunday night. Josh had dress rehearsal earlier that day and Maya sat all week pondering her decision. They hadn't spoken to each other since their fight earlier that same week. Neither seemed to want to relent and talk to the other. Their stubbornness was going to be the death of them. The entire time Josh was focused on one thing, winning. This was his chance. This was everything he had been working towards the past few months. His dream of becoming a professional dancer was one night away.
The dress rehearsal went beautifully. Josh even saw Maya earlier that day. She stopped by the dress rehearsal to go over the staging with him for a routine of theirs that was selected to be performed in the finale. They didn't say a word to each other the entire time. They even marked their kiss so that they wouldn't have to be that close to each other at this current moment in time. That evening it poured in the usually sunny Los Angeles. Josh looked out his hotel window as the rain fell, reflecting on the day. He thought back to when he saw Maya earlier. His first thought was, of course, about her beauty but he couldn't let his stance go. He meant what he said. What she did was unfair and inconsiderate.
The sound of the door knocking brought him out of his thoughts as he turned towards it. It was this rapid, consistent knocking. Confused, Josh walked to the door and opened it to see a soaking wet Maya at his door. "Maya?"
Shivering and cold Maya looked up at him and let out a shaky breath. "You're right, I'm wrong. I don't want to fight anymore. I want to figure this out because I need to talk to you about something."
Maya walked farther into the room and turned to face Josh as he closed the door behind her, still confused. "What are you doing here?"
Maya stepped towards him, her blonde hair sticking to her face. "I need to talk to you about something. Listen Josh I-"
"No," Josh said cutting her off. Maya's eyes widened as his response startled her. "Do you even understand why you upset me so much? Or are you just saying sorry so we can move on and pretend like this fight didn't even happen? So that you can say whatever it is you need to because it's convenient for you now?"
"Listen Josh-"
"No," Josh said firmly. "You don't get to do this. If I'm remembering correctly you told me to talk to you when I stopped bitching about this." Josh crossed his arms over his chest and looked at the ground. "You know we agreed to not curse at each other when we fought? You absolutely disregarded it last week."
Stunned by his response, Maya swallowed nervously. Nodding slowly she replied, "You're right. I should have called and said something I just-"
"You what?" Josh interjected. "It does not kill you to send a text."
"Can you let me speak?" Maya snapped. "I am literally standing in front of you soaking wet from the rain and I'm just trying to speak from my heart here!" Josh's jaw stiffened as he continued to look at the floor. "Can you at least look at me Josh?"
Josh looked up at her and uncrossed his arms. "You should get into some dry clothes before you get sick. You can take a shower here and borrow some of my clothes." Maya looked at him with her big blue eyes with her mouth open as he walked towards her and handed her some clothes. "Tomorrow is a big day for me. I've worked so hard to get here and I wanted to share this hell of a week with you. It has been crazy and amazing and I wanted to share it with you." Josh turned his back to her and walked towards the door to his room. "I've always supported you and what you wanted. Even when I haven't understood it. I understand that we weren't on the same page about earlier but I thought that maybe, just maybe you'd-" Pausing he said, "I'm gonna give you some privacy while you shower and change. I'll be back in fifteen."
Maya's freshly blowdried hair sat beautifully upon her shoulders as she slipped on one of Josh's t-shirts and pants. Walking out of the bathroom, she looked around the room and noticed Josh wasn't back yet. Sighing, she sat on the edge of the bed wracking her brain on how to fix this. She had never seen Josh so upset with her before. She wasn't quite sure what to do. She thought back to their fight and put herself into his shoes. Quickly realizing how he must have felt Maya muttered to herself, "Shit."
As soon as the words left her mouth, the room door opened and in walked Josh. "Hey," she breathed from her seat. Noticing a small bag in his hand Maya leaned forward to take a peek. "What'd you bring?"
Looking over at her Josh extended his arm out to her as he walked in her direction with the bag in hand. "I didn't know if you'd eaten so I went out and got you something to eat," he answered.
Taking the bag in her hand Maya smiled softly. "Thanks," she whispered. Setting the bag down beside her she stood in front of the brunette. "I'm so sorry," she began. "I've been sitting here and thinking about our fight and I genuinely understand now that what I did wasn't right. It wasn't fair to you in the slightest and I understand that now." Josh just stared at her, waiting for her to continue. "And I shouldn't have let it create this tension between us. You didn't deserve that. Especially not now. Not when you needed my support this week."
Josh nodded slowly. His voice barely above a whisper he said, "Thank you." Staring at her face he continued. "I want this relationship to work Maya but it's not going to work if we keep going just like we are now. I know that this is your first real thing and we're both going to make mistakes but I don't believe in being senseless and reckless with the other person. People get hurt that way."
Silence fell between them as Maya took in his words. "I understand what you're saying," she replied back. "And I want our relationship to be something good. I want to be honest and truthful and communicative. You deserve the bare minimum at that." Josh nodded as Maya took a deep breath. "Which is why I'm going to begin with this," Breathing out Maya finished her statement. "I've been offered a full time position with the New York Contemporary Dance Company."
Stunned and proud, Josh took Maya into a hug. "Congratulations," he whispered. "I'm so proud of you."
Pulling away from the hug Maya smiled softly. "Thank you. I haven't accepted yet."
Frowning, Josh asked, "How come?"
"I just have some things to think over first. Like us. What happens if you win the show? You're going to have countless jobs and offers and don't forget the tour regardless of you winning or not. You have so much ahead of you in your career and that's amazing but where do we stand in all of that? Our relationship hasn't existed outside of this show bubble we've been living in. What happens then?"
Josh stared at girl in front of him and took in her words carefully. He understood her concerns. They were valid after all he just wasn't sure he had an answer for them. "I don't know Maya. I wish I did but I don't."
Sighing Maya ran her fingers through her blonde hair. "I know. Me either."
