"Get out of here! Now! Go go go!"
I scream at the onlookers, keeping an eye on the Chitauri that escaped Stark, pouring out of a hole in the sky and flying every which way. My voice snaps most of the bystanders out of their daze, and they immediately begin running for cover just as the Chitauri ships zoom down and begin firing at anything in sight. I jump out of the way of a couple of different blasts, and continue shouting for people to run. Several more ships zip past just above me, but all of a sudden, they begin exploding into bits, one by one. I gasp, dashing out of the way of falling ship pieces, and realize that a quinjet is flying straight towards me, firing mercilessly on the aliens. I grin, knowing exactly who it is.
The streets begin to fill with police cars and screaming civilians, and I do my best to show people where to go. I can send them inside of buildings, but if they go any higher than the second level it's possible they will get crushed by random Chitauri ships crashing into the building. Or the building may collapse on top of them, if it happens to be one of the multiple unfortunate buildings to be destroyed today. But I can't let them stay out in the open either; they'll be sitting ducks. I quickly usher a group of terrified teens into a nearby building and tell them to lay low, and then dash back out into the street, rounding up more people and getting them to safety. After about ten minutes of doing this, the streets directly around Stark Tower are empty, since the Chitauri are following the people that are running away from it. But there are still people pouring out of buildings all around the Tower, so I begin to move further away from the Tower, yelling for the people to get out of the street. A moment later, I screech to a stop in the middle of the road and yell with fright when I see the quinjet round a corner, on fire, and headed straight for me. I rush to the side, trying to get out of the way, but I am still thrown to the ground on impact as it crashes into the ground not ten feet from my position.
I get up slowly, groaning and spitting out dust as Natasha, Clint, and Steve all exit the quinjet in front of me. They rush into the street and back towards Stark Tower, not realizing that I'm there. I blink, suddenly having a feeling of unreality wash over me. Those are the Avengers. The real, flesh-and-blood, life-sized Avengers. Right in front of me.
I take a deep breath, shaking the feeling off. I have to focus. I can fangirl later, when people aren't dying and aliens aren't pouring out of a wormhole in the sky. I follow the trio of heroes, seeing more people running away from the Tower, and I begin to direct the frightened civilians into different buildings, trying to get them off the streets. Just as I reach one young woman, though, she points up into the air, a terrified look on her face. "What is that?!" she practically screeches. I whip around, look up into the sky, and then find myself rooted to the ground in astonishment. An alien...worm? fish? centipede?... the size of a seven story building comes floating out of the wormhole, roaring mechanically. It almost swims through the air over our heads as everyone on the street just stands there gaping at it. Sparks ripple across its midsection, shooting out disgusting Chitauri humanoid creatures that immediately attach themselves to the nearby buildings, hissing and growling gutturally. They begin to leap inside the buildings to terrorize and kill the occupants.
"Whoa..." is all I can say. But a few seconds later, I'm jerked out of my daze by a loud crashing sound. The Chitauri alien/creature/ship/fish/thing is not at all concerned about his "fins" crashing into various buildings and statues.
Including the building that I and the young woman are standing directly under.
"Run!" I scream to her, just as the monster's "fin" tears into the building above us. She is standing directly underneath a huge piece of building that is now falling through the air almost in slow motion. She snaps out of her horrified trance and shrieks, taking off running.
The wrong way.
"No! Wait!" There's only a split second left before the huge piece of rubble will squash her flatter than a pancake. I'm just barely clear of it, but she is directly in its path. My legs make the decision for me, propelling me forward. I leap for her, tackling her to the ground and covering her with my body, and not a moment too soon. The ginormous chunk of building crashes down on top of us, the worst of it hitting right beside us. A good deal of rubble falls on top of us, though, pinning us down beneath its crushing weight. Both of us cry out in pain, though hers is muffled beneath me. I wait for a moment to let it settle, groaning.
Ok, what the heck am I supposed to do now?! I am surrounded by rubble, and can barely see through the cloud of dust kicked up by the crash. One of my arms is pinned beneath a slab of concrete, and my legs are trapped as well, though I think I can free them if I wiggle just right. I take a deep breath, mentally preparing myself, and then twist my legs until I can pull them out and position them beneath me, right beside the now-unconscious woman. This position puts my trapped arm in much more pain, however, and I bite my lip to keep from crying out. Quickly, I grasp the slab of concrete with my free hand, and shove upward, putting most of the power into my legs. The slab, to my great surprise, moves upwards easily, freeing my arm. I gasp with relief, and then stare at the huge slab of concrete like it's an alien from outer space. How the HECK did I just lift that?!
Suddenly, a loud burst of gunfire erupts nearby, and I look up to see Natasha and Clint battling Chitauri on a bridge above us. And several more have just spotted us. Oh lord. I jump up, flexing my injured arm with a wince. Then I reach down and lift the unconscious young woman bridal style, shocked at how lightweight she is. What is going on?! I rush her into the building right next to us, set her down gently, and look out the window to see a couple of Chitauri coming our way. I grit my teeth. Natasha and Clint are busy. Looks like I'll have to deal with these brutes myself.
I duck down out of sight just as they spot me again, and I can hear their guttural screeches as they jog toward us. Both of them have those weird, incredibly dangerous alien guns, so I'll have to stay clear of the barrels. And I need a weapon. Time to put that training to good use. I close my eyes, smirking as I think of one of Loki's perfectly balanced blades. I flick my wrist, and it appears in my hand. Thanks, Greenhorn.
Just as the pair of screeching aliens comes into sight on the other side of the window, I make myself invisible and head for the door. The aliens look around, trying to figure out where I went, and I sneak up behind them. Great. I huff, realizing that their armor will block a knife thrust. I'll have to slit their throats or shoot them with their own weapons. And of course, they're really tall. This is perfect. Just perfect! I try not to think about the last time I tried to sneak up on Loki from behind and "slit his throat". Let's just say that the bruise resulting isn't fully healed yet. I hiss my annoyance with the situation, but position myself anyway, running and leaping onto one of the Chitauri's backs, still invisible. He screeches his fury and confusion, but my knife swiftly ends his incredibly loud complaints. As he falls backwards, I leap off his back towards the other one, who is looking around wildly. I send Loki's knife back to wherever it came from and grab the dead Chitauri's gun-thingy, while trying not to look at the blood draining out of his neck. Wait, how do you fire— Suddenly the gun goes off, firing wide of my target and instead blowing a car upside down. Oh. The Chitauri creature immediately turns and looks in my general direction, and I make myself visible with a smirk on my face. "Bye-bye, buster." I shoot him twice in the chest, and he collapses.
I sigh, and look back towards the building to see the woman inside just starting to wake up. I smile slightly. I wonder if she'll remember what happened. Then I turn, Chitauri weapon in hand, and jog away, looking for other people to help.
