I fall asleep on my bed not long after Loki leaves the room, and I sleep through the night without even stirring. I awaken the next morning feeling much better, but my stomach is quick to remind me of its lack of food. I haven't eaten since yesterday at breakfast, and my gut is screaming at me. I wince, rolling out of bed and stretching, and I frown when I realize I'm wearing the same clothes that I fought disgusting aliens and nearly got squashed like a bug in twice yesterday. The lights suddenly turn on, surprising me, but they are dim enough that it doesn't hurt my eyes.
"Good morning, Miss Victoria," I hear the cheerful voice of the Tower's AI greet me. He sounds much quieter than yesterday, probably a precaution of Tony's to prevent morning headaches. I smile.
"Morning, JARVIS. Sounds like you found out my real name."
"Yes, Mr. Stark asked me to put your information in his files."
I raise an eyebrow, walking over to the curtained window. "Did he? What else does he have on me?"
I open the curtains, frowning down at the sorry state of the city as JARVIS answers me. "Very little, ma'am. Only that you are an enhanced individual and were a prisoner of Loki for a short period of time."
"Huh," I say thoughtfully. "He was up during the night doing research on me, wasn't he?"
"He was indeed, Miss Victoria."
I smirk, letting the curtains drop back into place. "And he didn't find a single thing. I'll bet he's going to have a million questions at breakfast."
"I wouldn't be surprised, miss."
I chuckle. "Well, I need clothes. Know where I can find some?"
"Ms. Potts may have a few items that would fit you. Shall I request them from Mr. Stark?"
"Ummm...I guess so?"
"Very well."
The AI goes silent, so I go into the bathroom, wrinkling my nose in disgust at the smell of my clothes and body. I really need a shower.
"Ms. Potts has an assortment of unused garments that Mr. Stark says you are welcome to use," JARVIS informs me a moment later.
"Thanks, Jarv," I say, relieved. I exit my room and enter the elevator, and JARVIS takes me to a lower level and directs me to an rather large unused room. Inside the room's huge walk-in closet, I find an astonishing amount of women's apparel. And JARVIS was right- it mostly looks brand new. I look through the items, and settle on a simple t-shirt and capris. I also grab underwear, my face flushing slightly at the sight of some lingerie that looks a little more used folded neatly with the other items. I smirk. This is definitely Pepper's room...
Heading back up to my room, I surprisingly encounter no one. But I'm rather glad, since I feel disgusting. I take a long, relaxing shower, scrubbing myself thoroughly and washing my hair twice. But by the end, I'm in a hurry, wincing in pain as my stomach rebukes me. I step out and dry off, then towel dry my hair. After dressing, I French braid my damp hair, and tie it off with my hair tie I've kept with me since I stepped into this crazy world.
I sigh and look at myself in the mirror. I don't feel the same as before, and I don't look the same, either. I look...stronger, I suppose. More experienced. Older.
Shaking my head, I turn away and gather up my dirty clothes. "Hey Jarv, where do I put these?"
"The laundry chute is to your left."
I look to the left of the bathroom counter, and sure enough, there's a laundry chute there. "Thanks!"
"My pleasure, Miss Victoria."
I drop the clothes in the chute with a smile. "You can call me Vikki, if you want."
"Very well, Vikki."
"Um, so where is everyone?" I ask, exiting the bathroom.
"Mr. Stark, Mr. Rogers, Agents Barton and Romanoff, Mr. Odinson, and Dr. Banner have gathered in the kitchen on the 45th floor for a late breakfast."
I nod, walking to the door. "And I assume Loki is still in his room?"
"Actually, he is just now leaving—"
I open the door, and am surprised to see the door across from mine opening as well. Loki steps into the hallway, closing his door behind him. He is still in chains, which oddly doesn't give me the sense of satisfaction I thought it should. I give him a smile, trying to ignore my suddenly increased heart rate. Come on, Victoria. He's not that scary... "Good morning! Sleep well?"
"Well enough, I suppose," he replies in an almost bored tone, joining me as I walk down the hallway to the main area. I squint up at his features, noting that he seems to have healed some overnight.
"Your face looks better. Tell me, what's it like to be Hulk smashed?"
Loki frowns at me, but I think he knows I'm joking, since he doesn't appear angry. "It is not pleasant, to be sure," he responds. I grin.
"Yeah, I can imagine." I snicker, remembering what he looked like when I entered the building yesterday. "You looked pretty beat when I came in yesterday."
Loki rolls his eyes as we both make our way to the kitchen. "That pun was pathetic."
I laugh. "Aw, come on. I thought it was great!"
Loki scoffs. "Of corse you did."
I grin at him, then turn my attention to my need of sustenance. "Hey JARVIS, I'm in the mood for a quick breakfast. Do you happen to know if there's any cereal or instant oatmeal around here somewhere?"
"Mr. Stark has requested that you join him and the others for breakfast, Vikki."
Loki raises an eyebrow. "Vikki?"
I glance at him. "It's my nickname." I return my attention to the AI. "Ok, what about Reindeer Games?"
Loki scoffs. "Surely you can be more creative than that."
I don't miss a beat. "Greenhorn."
Loki rolls his eyes as JARVIS responds to me. "He is to remain confined to this level."
I raise an eyebrow and shrug. "Ok." I turn to the Asgardian in question. "Want me to bring you something to eat? I'm sure you're used to hot breakfasts."
Loki looks surprised that I would offer. Actually, I've surprised myself with how amiable I'm being towards him this morning. But I can't help being happy that I'm alive. "No, thank you," he responds cordially, which in turn surprises me. I shrug again.
"Suit yourself." I turn, heading for the elevator. "I'll be downstairs. Behave yourself," I throw over my shoulder, partially joking, but mostly serious.
"No promises," he returns. I look over my shoulder at him, and shake my head at the twinkle of mischief in his eye.
JARVIS takes me down to the kitchen on the 45th level, and I walk in to see the exhausted-looking Avengers sitting in a rather large breakfast nook. They seem to wake up a bit when I come in, and Tony points at the kitchen counter. "I ordered breakfast."
I raise an eyebrow. "You don't have a cook?" I walk over to the counter, and my eyes light up at the sight of the assortment of waffles, pancakes, fruit, sausage, eggs, and bacon.
"He eats when he feels like it, not at mealtimes. It would do him no good to have a cook," Natasha answers for him. I grin, and Tony shoots her a glare. I quickly fill a plate with an unhealthy amount of food, and sit down in an unoccupied chair next to the only female Avenger. Well, the only one for now. Tony's eyes widen.
"Are you going to eat all of that?"
I take a large bite of waffle, and just look at him while chewing.
"I'll take that as a yes. Good grief, you eat like Thor."
I grin at that, wiping my mouth with a napkin before answering. "Thank you!"
Thor grins at me, shoveling food into his own mouth. Then the place goes silent, the only sounds being my own eating and Thor's. After I swallow my last bite of waffle, I look around at my heroes. "So, when are you going to start?"
They all give me rather odd looks. "Start what?" Steve asks.
"Questioning me. I know you all want to, so it's just a matter of when."
Thor just grins at me again, while the rest of them exchange looks. "She's got a point," Tony says. I look at him.
"I figure you want to know why you couldn't find any information on me last night, so fire away. I'll answer whatever I can."
"How did you know...you know what, nevermind. Why couldn't I find any information on you? It's like you don't exist."
I look down at that. I'm not supposed to exist. "Because I'm not Midgar- I'm not from Earth."
Thor looks up, the obvious question in his eyes. The rest all give me looks ranging from surprised to wary. "Then where are you from?" asks Steve. I take a deep breath, hoping I'm doing the right thing.
"I am of Asgard."
Once again, I get a range of looks from shocked to wary. Thor is openly staring at me. I smile slightly at him, bowing my head. "It is an honor to finally meet you, my prince." I look around the table at my teen-years heroes. "To meet all of you."
Author's Note: I was going to keep writing, but then I didn't. Ehehehehehe. I hope you enjoyed it anyway, though! Not much, I know. More of a filler chapter than anything, so that's why I'll have the next chapter out tomorrow.
Anyway, thank you for reading! More is coming.
