"How did you come to be here? The Bifrost was destroyed over a year ago!"
I smile at Thor's question. Time to step into my role as an Asgardian. "I came here through a magical door."
"A magical door?" Tony repeats, incredulous. I nod.
"You mean a portal? Like the one Loki came through?" Clint questions. I think for a minute.
"Ah, not exactly, but it's similar."
"You said you were Loki's prisoner. Did he know of your heritage?" This is from Steve.
"Yes, he did." I huff a laugh. "That is most likely why he did not kill me in the first place. He wanted to use me and my abilities for his own purposes, so he began to train me in the art of magic, hone what skill I have and teach me more."
Thor's eyebrows shoot skyward. "He trained you?"
"Every day," Clint affirms. "He was also teaching her how to fight— hand-to-hand combat with and without knives. I've never seen the style he uses, but it's effective, for sure."
I roll my eyes. "You can say that again. He nearly killed me so many times during the training that it's not even funny."
By now, all of the Avengers are wide awake and staring at me. I'm about to comment, but then Clint says something that stops the entire conversation in its tracks.
"Oh, and she can predict the future. Accurately."
My gaze snaps to Clint, who is looking at me coolly. I sigh. "Thanks a lot. Now they all think we're both crazy."
"Are you a witch?"
I glare at Thor. "Are you kidding me?! Loki asked me the same question. Why do I have to be a witch to know the future?"
"Well, are you?" Clint asks. I turn my glare on him.
"No, I most certainly am not a witch!" I huff my annoyance. "You people are so superstitious..."
"If you aren't a witch, then how can you tell the future?" Thor asks. I roll my eyes.
"I suppose you could call it a gift, but I consider it a curse."
"You were born with it?" This, surprisingly, comes from Steve. I shake my head.
"No. It's complicated, and I'd rather not explain it right now." Or ever.
Tony looks around the table at everyone. "Ok, hold on. She tells us that she can turn invisible and see into the future, and you all just accept it because she said she's Asgardian?"
I look Tony straight in the eyes, and then make myself invisible. I grin when everyone at the table reacts the same way those at the compound did when I accidentally made myself invisible for the first time. Slack-jawed, wide-eyed, and looking around as though they'll be able to see me if they turn their heads. It's rather amusing to see. I quietly stand up without moving my chair and walk around to Tony's chair. He is looking around wildly. "JARVIS, where is she?"
"She seems to have vanished, sir," comes the AI's voice. If possible, Tony's face pales even more. My grin becomes rather mischievous as I step up behind him, and then I grip his shoulders roughly and make myself visible at the same time, yelling loudly in his ear. He practically leaps out of his chair, screeching like a little girl, and everyone in the room jumps. I burst out laughing, and after a moment Thor and Clint join in. Even Natasha has a tiny smile on her face.
"She is right behind you, sir," JARVIS intones from somewhere above us, sending me into another fit of laughter. I saunter back to my chair and sit down, a smug smirk on my face.
"Believe me now, Stark?"
Tony sits up straight in his chair, glaring at me. But even now, I can see the curiosity in his eyes behind the mask of annoyance. "How did you do that?"
"I told you." I flick my wrist, summoning one of Loki's knives and casually inspecting it. "It's magic."
Tony's eyes widen, but Clint scoffs. "It's a trick, that's what it is."
I look at him. "Oh really? Let's see you do it."
Clint raises his hands in mock surrender. "Hey, don't look at me. I've never learned that one."
I smirk, flicking my wrist and sending Loki's knife back to wherever it came from. "That's because you can't. Your body apparently isn't strong enough to handle the magic."
Clint scoffs again. "You're starting to sound like the psychopath who tried to take over the world yesterday."
I roll my eyes. "I'm pretty sure Queen Frigga would tell you the same thing, Barton. She's the one who trained him in magic."
Clint frowns. "You mean..." He glances at Thor, who nods, a distant look in his eyes.
"Our mother."
"What else can you do?" Tony asks. I shake my head with a smile.
"At the moment, that's all I can do."
"You said you can tell the future. Prove it," Tony challenges. I frown.
"I'm not going to—"
"She accurately predicted the German gala incident, the capture and escape of Loki, and the arrival of the Chitauri. She can tell the future."
I give Clint a grateful look, while the others pretty much gape at me. Once again, the room goes silent.
"If you're Asgardian, why do you speak like one of us?"
My gaze snaps to Dr. Banner. That's the first time he's spoken all morning. "I suppose you could say I've had experience with humans, Doctor."
He nods, nervously cleaning his glasses. He looks even worse than Loki did after being smashed by the Hulk. I smile gently to put him at ease, and he smiles back a little uncertainly.
"What kind of experience?" Natasha asks me. I look at her.
"I've lived here for a few years now," I answer vaguely. It's not exactly a lie, since I have lived on Earth for years. Just not this Earth.
"How did Loki find you?" she continues her interrogation.
I purse my lips, remembering the day I stepped unwittingly into another world. "He didn't find me, I found him accidentally. I was snooping around where I shouldn't have been, and got captured because of it." That definitely wasn't a lie.
"What did you do to help Loki?"
"I helped the cook and went to the gala with him."
"That's all?" Steve asks, not looking convinced. I look at Clint.
"She's telling the truth. I was there," he affirms.
Steve nods, then looks at me. "What are your intentions here, now that Loki has been defeated?"
I look down at the table, pondering his question. I can feel the eyes of everyone in the room on me. "I believe I will stay here awhile longer." I look up with a smile. "I enjoy your culture, and I would like to learn more if I can."
Steve nods slowly, and I look around the table again after a few minutes of silence.
"So are we done with...ah, what's that game called? 21 Questions?"
Stark grins at me. "It's 20 Questions, but yeah, I'm done for now. I'm sure I'll find something to question you about later."
I roll my eyes, a grin on my face as well. "Somehow, I don't doubt that."
The mood lightens considerably at that, and everyone returns to their breakfasts.
"So can you cast spells like Harry Potter?"
I sigh and shake my head. "I thought you said you were done, Stark."
"Ok, first of all, it's Tony, and second of all, I warned you I'd have questions later. It's later now."
I can't help but laugh. "No, I can't cast spells like Harry Potter. It's different." I smirk. "Why don't you ask Loki about it? He's much more skilled than I am."
Tony frowns. "No thanks. I want that psycho maniac off my property ASAP."
I give him an amused half smile. "Once again, somehow I'm not surprised."
Suddenly, Tony's eyes light up. "Hey, what are you the goddess of?"
My eyes widen, and I laugh. "I'm not a goddess, Tony. What gave you that idea?"
"Well, aren't the old Norse legends about the gods and goddesses of Asgard?"
I nod. "They are, but we aren't gods and goddesses. We're just people, like you. Except that we live a lot longer."
Tony looks disappointed. "So you aren't the goddess of invisibility? Or the future?"
I snicker. "Heavens, no. I'm just an average Asgardian with the magical strength of becoming invisible and the curse of knowing the future." I wince. "And believe me, it's a curse."
"Ok, I have to know," Clint pipes up. I look at him expectantly. "How did you escape from the compound? You said you used a toilet seat?"
I laugh a little. "Well, I had to be resourceful, because I didn't have any weapons. So I grabbed the top of my bathroom's toilet, used a butterknife from the kitchen unlock the door, and then used the toilet top to knock the guards out."
"But how did you get a knife from the kitchen if you were locked in your room?" Natasha asks. I smile, and flick my wrist, summoning the same knife from the compound's kitchen to my hand. I frown a little at the amount of energy it took, but realize it's because of the distance. I need to be more careful.
Natasha's eyebrows rise in surprise, and she takes the knife, inspecting it. "Impressive."
I try not to show my surprise. The Black Widow just said what I did is impressive..?! "Thanks!"
She nods and gives the knife back. "How does that work? You just flick your wrist and it appears?"
I shake my head with a grin, remembering asking Loki a very similar question. "Not exactly. With magic, it all depends on how much energy you have, the size of the desired object, and your distance from the object to determine whether you can summon the object to your hand. For instance, I can't summon a car or a mattress to my hand, because those items are much too large. And I can't summon anything from Asgard or Jotunheim or Vangard, no matter the size, because of the distance between the realms. But small things, such as knives, can be summoned to the hand with a minimal amount of energy, as long as they are near enough to be summoned."
By the time I'm finished with the explanation, everyone in the room looks impressed, even Thor.
"Well, you sound just like Point Break, I'll give you that," says Tony. I grin.
"Thank you!"
"Sir, you have a meeting with Alexander Pierce in one hour," JARVIS informs Tony before he can say anything else. He curses.
"Thanks, Jarv." He points at me. "Don't go anywhere, Cheshire."
I frown. "Cheshire?"
"Don't tell me you've never seen Alice in Wonderland."
"Oh, you mean the Cheshire Cat? I have never seen the film, but I read the book once."
Tony looks horrified. "We're going to fix that when I get back."
I grin. "Alright. I don't really have anything better to do, anyway."
Tony grins back. "Then you haven't explored the Tower yet."
I raise my eyebrows. "Am I allowed to?"
Tony scoffs. "Of course, what kind of a question is that?"
I smile widely. "Thanks!" I stand up, putting my empty plate in the sink. "Enjoy your meeting, Tony," I say with a smirk. He smirks back.
"Don't wreck my Tower while I'm gone."
I grin innocently. "No promises."
Author's Note: Hi again, everyone! Told you I'd publish again soon! What did you think? I hope you liked it!
Half of the questions that the Avengers asked were actually thought of by my readers on Quotev, so thank you once again to all of them! And thank you to my community for reading! I haven't been here long, but it's growing every day! I really appreciate the love!
