a/n: Hello everyone, here I am back with the newest update! Even though it is a Capitol interlude, please don't just skim through the Session Reports, since I've got some really fun stuff planned for this chapter, and I'm very proud of it. Without further ado, I give you Viola, who is going to have a lot more to tell us than she did when we left her seven chapters ago. To begin the chapter, I'll be going over what Viola wrote for her Private Sessions, and then get into her interactions with other characters. Eugene, if you're reading this, I loved your Tribute File idea, but I just couldn't lump it in and fit the chapter into a good length, so I decided to cut it out and incorporate it into the Other Notes section.

D1F
Name: Turquesa Miracelest
Age: 17
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Turquesa first went to the sparring station, picked up a spear, and demonstrated her finesse with it on a few dummies, whom she destroyed quickly and mercilessly, before moving onto taking on actual trainers. First, she took on an intermediate level trainer who was easily bested, and then advanced to the highest level of trainer. After a minute-long grueling fight, the pulled out the win by using scrappiness and parrying the sword out of his hand. Extra points for beating someone so much bigger than her. Turquesa used up the remaining time in her session by running two laps and average a 4.38-minute mile.
Relations to Other Tributes: Turquesa has two primary allies: Aquatico Espovera, the D4M, and Mystic Archeron, the D8F. She is much closer with Aquatico as they partnered up during the Parade, and they seemingly enjoy each other's company and have a nice repartee. Mystic only joined yesterday morning but shares their drive and distaste for a certain tribute. There is strong animosity between Turquesa and the careers, particularly Imperia Crimson. The two had a loud spat on the first day and share an apparent loathing for the other, and her overaggressive dislike may lead to harsh consequences.
Interview Notes: Humor Turquesa and play into her confidence. Ask her why she believes that she was Reaped, there is sure to be some drama there. Play into the storyline of her and her alliance versus the careers. Turquesa could potentially turn volatile fast, so tread lightly.
Other Notes: Turquesa seems to dislike the Capitol and her home district, something rare in a District One Female. She should be monitored closely for suspicious rebel activity. She also has a history of being a notably bad student. At the Academy she trained at, she was known for frequently disrupting class and getting into fights, purposefully failing, and, after an expulsion and subsequent reenrollment after a lofty donation from her parents, putting in no effort in anything other than fighting out of spite. The scheduled volunteer was reportedly her nemesis, so this could be why she refused to, since she still has another chance to next year.
D1M
Name: Marvel Silver
Age: 18
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Marvel first to the knife-throwing station, where he had impressive accuracy with stationary targets, and then moved onto the holo-station, where he had less success and hit in less lethal areas, but still went in for the kill, drawing it out to the point of it being intentional. After that, he moved onto twin sais, which he claimed were his true specialty, and sliced up a few dummies before besting two intermediate level trainers at once.
Relations to Other Tributes: Marvel is a member of the career alliance, consisting of himself, Scylla Frigard and Arlo Maddox from Two, Talisa Rowland from Four, and Imperia Crimson from Nine. He seems to be trying to manipulate them from the inside and is behaving in a friendly and submissive manner, gravitating towards Imperia.
Interview Notes: Marvel will most likely fade into the background as the least memorable career and play the angle of wanting to redeem his brother, which we guess is his strategy. Let him be charming and less memorable if that is how he wants it.
Other Notes: Marvel seems to have demonstrated sadistic and suicidal tendencies, but we will see when we have the psych evaluation. This could possibly stem from the death of his brother in the 152nd Hunger Games, as the Academy reported a sudden change in his behavior after this. He could hold a grudge against the victor of the Games, Amalfi Belfast, who assisted in the murder.
D2F
Name: Scylla Frigard
Age: 18
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Scylla first showed some disappointing sword skills with dummies for the first few minutes and seemed to get into her own head, halting momentarily. Luckily, she turned her act around and beat two trainers at the highest difficulty using her sword and the pocket mirror requested by her mentor. She was dominant and completely unpredictable, especially in her second fight. She rounded out her session by camouflaging her bare foot into the grass to the point of it being nearly unnoticeable.
Relations to Other Tributes: Scylla is in the career alliance but is rather distant and is only remotely close to her partner, with whom she has been seen conversing a few times throughout the pre-Games. She was seen on the rooftop two nights ago with Aleyn Garsow of District Eleven, but their topic is unknown, and they haven't reconnected.
Interview Notes: Scylla's interview is completely unpredictable, just like everything else about her. Just take what she gives you and resort to asking the basic questions if necessary. We want to push a narrative of giving her a rise-up arc, so her score may be lowered. Adjust your questions accordingly.
Other Notes: Scylla refuses to give a reasoning for her blue face paint or scabbed arm. She really is a nutcase; we don't need a psych evaluation for her. Teachers at her school have listed attention deficit issues in class and she has shared a bond with Aleyn Garsow (D11) that seems to originate from a shared issue or trauma. A mental illness is likely upon reflection.
D2M
Name: Arlo Maddox
Age: 17
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Arlo began by slashing at some dummies with a variety of swords, which he proved to be talented and expert in. He spent much of his time here, and after a while seemed to be dallying and stalling. Eventually, he chose the intermediate trainer, but before the fight began, stammered out a request for the advanced trainer instead, whom he beat soundly. He lifted weights and flexed his impressive muscles with the remainder of his time.
Relations to Other Tributes: Arlo is in the career alliance, where he seems to be largely trying to lay low, which is proving difficult, as Imperia seems to be singling him out since he appears physically to be her biggest adversary and/or right-hand man. He has been seen conversing with his district partner, but the two have still only remained quaint and joined together in their shyness. Rooker Hilt (D12) has been vocal in his distatste of him ever since he picked on him on the second day.
Interview Notes: Present Arlo as big, strong, and scary. These are traits that he naturally exemplifies, but he seems reluctant to. Try to coax some anger out of him, and if not, try to go with the silent killer trope.
Other Notes: Arlo could potentially be a powerful force in the arena, but seems to lack a drive to fight, contrary to his Academy records, where he is constantly noted as being the most diligent and hardworking male tribute in years. This decline may eventually snap him in the arena, and that's something that we want to see for some good TV.
D3F
Name: Nerissa Doppler
Age: 18
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Nerissa took care to acknowledge us before taking a knife and proceeding to slice open a few dummies meticulously and carefully, slowly puncturing them in an almost experimental, yet still rehearsed, manner. After doing so, she slaved over propping them up with weapons and in odd positions in a manner with an uncanny resemblance to death. After she finished, the curtseyed, said "Enjoy!", smiled pridefully, and exited. She created a death scene, an array of corpses, complete with the very weapons they used to kill each other.
Relations to Other Tributes: Nerissa is in the misfit alliance, dubbed by yours truly, Cassia Obsidian, and has maintained an air of niceness and agreeability for most of her stay in the Capital. She appears to be manipulating her allies from the background, according to the Head Gamemaker, and her charm is undeniable. Her closest relationship is with her district partner, and the two have a nice dynamic. She is friendly with all of her allies, though seemingly not the one closest to any of them. They seem to have unintentionally paired up without her. The Sevens were previously in the alliance, and she has been amiable with them in their interactions after splitting. Aleyn Garsow (D11) was also briefly in the alliance, bt split early on, and the two have not interacted since.
Interview Notes: Nerissa is going to be a hit, undoubtably. She is very charming and likable, and also has a splendid backstory. Play up her filmmaking angle, that is sure to get her some sponsors, but other than that, let her command the interview. Try and leave playing up her alliance for her allies.
Other Notes: She is quite the dark horse, and is the outlier to beat, though we will still be adjusting her odds to fit her angle. There is something in Nerissa that is so distinctly Capital in the way that she talks and her inspired mind, and it will get her far. She seems excited to get to the arena, which is always good in an outlier.
D3M
Name: Bolt Dattery
Age: 15
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Bolt started by running an astonishing 4:46 mile, and then headed over to the agility course to post a time in the top ten percent. He then showed off his intellect by scoring a ninety-eight on the memory test, and used the rest of his time to score well on a series of survival tests, though his mind seemed to waver towards the end.
Relations to Other Tributes: Bolt is in the misfit alliance with Nerissa, and it is apparent that he is the glue holding it together, though there aren't any notable festering points of concern in the alliance's trust in each other. In particular, he is very chatty with Nerissa, and seems to have taken up an older-brotherly role with Raihan Everstow (D10). He has been social with every tribute he has interacted with.
Interview Notes: As with Nerissa, Bolt will do the talking for himself. We predict that he will emphasize his alliance, so use him to play them all up and as a buffer for Nerissa. His sister is also autistic, but he doesn't seem like the type to try and play this up for extra sponsors from the UACD (Umbrella Association for Capitalites with Disabilities).
Other Notes: Bolt is being closely monitored for rebel activity after the executions of both of his parents because they were seen in contact with elusive notable rebel figureheads in District Three. He seems to be largely unaffected by this. His school testing scores are also off the charts, and he was poised to be valedictorian come his senior year. All around a completely golden boy and nice guy on the surface. Boring.
D4F
Name: Talisa Rowland
Age: 18
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Talisa showcased her strength by throwing spears from long distances with accuracy before taking on two advanced trainers at once and trouncing them over the course of thirty seconds. She then surprised us by displaying impressive survival skills and creating a decent water filtration system and finished her session with some laps around the pool.
Relations to Other Tributes: Talisa is in the career alliance and has talked with her mentor heavily on manipulating from behind the scenes and pulling the strings. She is cordial with all of her allies, though seems to share a mutual rivalry with Marvel Silver and regards him as her biggest threat.
Interview Notes: Embrace Talisa's confidence, she exudes it. It will be easy to present her as a fierce competitor, and we are guessing that that is the angle that she will want to go for. She also has worked in philanthropy and has a compelling story.
Other Notes: Her father is one of the richest men in District Four and a business mogul, which is sure to garner her a ton of sponsors from friends in District Four and the Capital. She is a dark horse pick to take the win.
D4M
Name: Aquatico Espovera
Age: 16
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Aquatico ran the agility course and completed it with the best time since its remodeling seven years ago. He then proceeded to engage in a lengthy spear fighting match against an intermediate trainer where he seemed to have the upper hand for the vast majority of time but spent most of it teasing and tantalizing the trainer and performing complex dodges at every strike, as if to show off. Aquatico seemed to be quite open about this, and even winked at us a few times. He then battled the advanced trainer, but after trying to use the same strategy, was overpowered and simply couldn't dodge fast enough, though he still put up a strong showing in the match. At his request prior to the session, the workout mats were then folded together, and he finished with a series of flips before exiting.
Relations to Other Tributes: Aquatico is a member of the Anti-careers, and is quite close with Turquesa Miracelest, whom he approached at the Chariot Parade to initiate the alliance. They have a good teasing relationship. Mystic Archeron (D8) was also let in on day three, though seems to be more distant, though the two of them gel. Aquatico was seen socializing with the pair from Five prior to his Private Session and is on good terms with Talisa even after declining a spot in the career alliance. His allies have strong animosity with them, and he seems to share it but keep it under wraps so as to present himself as the best of the three in their eyes, which is very clever.
Interview Notes: Let Aquatico do the talking for you. He is an entertainer at heart and will not refrain from telling jokes and flirting with the audience. He put in a request to his stylist asking to be given flexible outfit to be worn for his interview and easily removable shoes, so it is expected he will also use some of his interview to perform. He seems to be aware of his need to fuel his storyline with the careers, and that is what appears to be his strongest suit.
Other Notes: Aquatico ironically seemed to be playing matchmaker in his conversation with the Fives, and also has flirted with many fellow tributes in his stay. He was reportedly also known as a flirt back in Four but seemed to have two primary interests but nothing too official. Lust would be an unfortunate downfall for him in the arena.
D5F
Name: Konani Sowka
Age: 15
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Konani used her time first to slice carefully at different areas of dummies with a stubby sword, though she seemed timid and uncertain through it. She alternated between cutting and flexing medical knowledge by taking care of the wounds correctly. For the last five minutes, she ran a mile-long lap, and properly paced herself.
Relations to Other Tributes: Konani seems to be intent on only allying with her district partner Elior, and the two have been tight knit ever since meeting and harbor palpable romantic feelings for one another. They have otherwise remained closed-off, with the exception of their conversation with Aquatico and Talisa.
Interview Notes: Play up the romance angle, everyone will love it. There isn't much else to be said, though it is likely that the duo will both be modest in their own strengths and instead talk up the other. Embrace that.
Other Notes: Konani has seven siblings, and her nature is observed to be very selfless and caring both with them and with Elior. Their likelihood of trying to sacrifice themselves for the other is high, so we need to be on the lookout for a potential situation mirroring the 74th Hunger Games. We must not let that happen.
D5M
Name: Elior Gobel
Age: 15
Skills Displayed in Private Session: First, Elior ran on the agility course and finished in the thirty-fifth percentile, and then ran again and finished with a time seventeen seconds faster. With the rest of his time, he threw spears from a short distance, which he had an apparent talent for, as he hit the target on every one of his throws. His confidence seemed to grow throughout the session, as did his results.
Relations to Other Tributes: As previously, Elior and Konani are loyal only to each other, and both seem to have fallen for the other. Elior in particular appears not to think Konani should ally with him, though she is adamant on the contrary. Elior has been strongly antisocial outside of meeting the Fours and Konani.
Interview Notes: Elior might have some trouble speaking in front of a crowd, so try and be gentle and warm with him, and use his modesty to create a mold of someone who won't acknowledge their own strength. The crowd will love that dynamic, so we will be sculpting his image accordingly.
Other Notes: Elior comes from a rich family background and thus is bullied by his peers. His father is the boss of one of the upper district supply plants and has garnered a reputation of quick-temperedness, cruelty and power abuse. A middle school teacher claimed she saw bruises on Elior multiple times, and we suspect his father is the culprit.
D6F
Name: Keeley Axel
Age: 13
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Keeley began confidently with a flawless run on the stealth course, not coming close to being caught once, and in her movements after, still remained lithe, catlike, and poised to react to anything surprising, a quality noted by Drusillus Barrion. Next, she used up the rest of her time at the knives station, where she first cut up a few dummies and displayed decent dexterity and knowledge of arteries before taking on a beginner level trainer and beating her soundly.
Relations to Other Tributes: Keeley is in an alliance with her district partner, Carroll Heinback, and the two appear to already have heavily bonded. They talk frequently and have a chemistry that the audience will love, and at different times both seem to be the ones keeping each other's emotions in check and comforting and encouraging the other. Other than that, Keeley has intentionally remained reclusive and mysterious.
Interview Notes: Focus on how Keeley's strength and intelligence set her ahead of most people her age, it will give her room to expand on it and talk game. Trying to set he apart from thirteen is essential for the role in the story that she should play. Also zero in on her and Carroll's unique dynamic.
Other Notes: Keeley was obviously some form of criminal in her home, based sheerly off of her mannerisms, dexterity, and stealth. She is being closely monitored for rebel intelligence and activities, since numerous titanic criminal organizations in Six has strong rebel ties.
D6M
Name: Carroll Heinback
Age: 16
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Carroll went directly to the survival skills section, and first built a decent shelter before showcasing a retentive memory on numerous tests of survival skills. The scores that he earned were always impressive, especially for somebody from Six, but not too much so.
Relations to Other Tributes: Carroll is in a tight-knit alliance with his district partner, Keeley, and trusts her deeply. He has displayed no ill will or negative feelings to her or any other tributes, and acts as a pacifying presence in her psyche. In return, Keeley grounds him in reality, and both have been seen comforting each other in moments of weakness. Carroll is likely to prioritize Keeley's life over his, but whether or not she would do the same is doubtful. He also talked with Aleyn Garsow (D11) on the elevator on the third day and, after monitoring him, self-diagnosed him with Dissociative Identity Disorder, which, if correct, would explain his odd behavior. He showed authentic concern and friendliness for him, and will likely try to help him going into the Games get over it as much as he can.
Interview Notes: Carroll is another tribute with an excellent stage presence. He has a quite unique backstory as a hospital clown, so be sure to lead with asking him about his Reaping attire, which will in turn lean into his job description. His jokes and tenderness will automatically endear him to the crowd.
Other Notes: Carroll seems to be one of the staple tributes who is a pacifist and is morally very challenged with the idea of killing others. Seeing how this affects him in the arena will be interesting.
D7F
Name: Tessa Oakhart
Age: 12
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Tessa was the first tribute of the day to approach the climbing course, and she finished it with a time of 2:24, which, though minimally missing the top quadrant, is extraordinary for someone of her age and size. She then proceeded to run the stealth course, and did well, slipping up just a few times. Tessa then scored ninety-four and ninety-seven percent on the edible plants and edible berries tests and rounded out her session with knot-tying that flexed her dexterity.
Relations to Other Tributes: Tessa and her current ally and district partner Rowan Hunter (D7) were previously in the misfit alliance but dropped out fairly early on. They left on good terms, and this was motivated by Rowan. Tessa views Rowan as an older brother figure and is already very trusting and loyal to him, and he has on multiple occasions sagely guided her decision making and comforted her in times of weakness. She still remains friendly with her old alliance and has been occasionally socializing with other tributes in training such as Coleus Yarrow (D9), Rhiannon Castor (D10), and Aleyn Garsow (D11), which she told her mentor was since they seemed lonely and to get in their good graces.
Interview Notes: Tessa has already been advised by her mentor to go for the cute angle, since that is something that she does well in her daily life. Make sure to play up her sibling-like relationship with Rowan.
Other Notes: Tessa's brother died in the bloodbath of the 152nd Hunger Games, the same as Marvel's older brother, which could potentially stir up drama, as he was the one who killed him. She is an orphan, and from her movements and lack of a file has likely integrated herself into the festering, pesky circle of thieves within her district like many orphans do.
D7M
Name: Rowan Hunter
Age: 14
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Rowan demonstrated proficiency with an axe from his job as a lumberjack and brutally chopped up two dummies. Next, he took on an intermediate trainer and participated in what was the longest fight of the day, where he swung forcefully but was frequently evaded before finally backing the trainer into a corner, never giving up. He rounded out his sessions with some tired and perfunctorily sorted edible plants and got seventy-seven percent correct.
Relations to Other Tributes: Rowan pulled out of the misfit alliance due to what he described as a foreboding feeling involving Nerissa, but has remained amiable with his former allies, but with underlying tension, especially with Nerissa. He cares for Tessa the way a brother would, and is defensive and kind to her, and frequently tries to make her laugh.
Interview Notes: Let Rowan's sense of humor do the talking for him and you. He will command a strong stage presence and attention, and be able to play up himself and Tessa, and make jokes while doing it. Make sure he doesn't come off as too self-deprecating and talk about his score some.
Other Notes: Like Carroll, Rowan seems to be strongly considering protecting Tessa. It is curious whether or not he will follow through with this or not.
D8F
Name: Mystic Archeron
Age: 16
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Mystic started out with archery and came in firing deadly arrows in the close-range simulator, before moving onto the mid-range simulator and faring almost as good, and then finally moved onto shooting arrows with enviable precision from further distances. She then posted a time on the agility course in the top twenty percent and moved onto showing honed survival skills for the rest of her session, which is out of the ordinary for someone from Eight.
Relations to Other Tributes: Mystic is the third member of the anti-career alliance, and seems to be more distant and resigned, though still has bonded with the other two over their shared adventurousness and untamedness. Individually, Mystic and Aquatico shares many traits of raucous spirits, while she and Turquesa share a bitterness and resolve. She seems to have no problem with being a third wheel. Mystic has made her loathing of Imperia Crimson (D9) and the rest of the careers known and has painted a large target on her back.
Interview Notes: Mystic will definitely have an energy that the crowd will enjoy, but her approach seems to be unpredictable. She could try to ride the high of being a volunteer and her gorgeous parade costume, but her rivalry with Imperia will both make her relevant but also unlikable to a large portion of the Capital. She may also be outspoken about rebellious beliefs, which would not bode well for her or her allies. On the flip side, if she goes the route, she will gain the favor of the districts.
Other Notes: Mystic is the daughter of the late overseer Connal Archeron, who was suspiciously linked to the murder of his other daughter and was killed in an alley after Mystic and her brother fled the house. Said brother was also later confirmed dead in similar circumstances. Her mother died due to complications in childbirth. All of that goes to say that mystic has nothing to lose and has apparently been turned against the Capital by her abusive father, which makes her very dangerous to us. She is being monitored the closest of any tribute, and will be terminated at the first sign of open rebellion.
D8M
Name: Cassius Heart
Age: 16
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Cassius seemed fairly lost as to way to show us. He first started by swinging a sword around aimlessly and with horrible technique and was largely unsuccessful in that and other blades that came after. He gradually lost effort and began to mentally break down and throw his weapons down, but eventually dragged himself over to the edible plants test. There, he scored a fifty-four percent, and then stormed off, ending his session early.
Relations to Other Tributes: Cassius has been standoffish and rude to every tribute, including his district partner, who knows his reputation and dislikes him. On the inside, he seems lonely, but continues to lash out at others.
Interview Notes: The only things Cassius can claim as a plus are his fashion sense and family money, which he will certainly try to milk based off of the way he has behaved around everyone here in the Capital. He is prone to breakdowns and tantrums, so tread lightly and make sure to flatter him. Or you could try to get him angry if you want some more comic relief.
Other Notes: Cassius is doomed if he doesn't change his ways soon. He is banking on sponsors that will never fulfill the quantity and quality that he envisions. That is, if he can run fast enough to escape the bloodbath. We will say that he is one of the outlier tributes that is the most unopposed to killing to save himself and will likely do so.
D9F
Name: Imperia Crimson
Age: 18
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Imperia first strode over to the whip section, where she demonstrated her adroitness and immense power with the weapon by sending a few dummies flying and ravaging others to the point where bits of their flesh where mostly scraped away from their bodies. She then took on the only whip trainer and won deftly before also besting the simulator. Afterwards, she thanked us, the only tribute to do so, and left.
Relations to Other Tributes: Imperia is the last tribute and only outlier in the career alliance, though is quite clearly the self-appointed leader and boss, which the other four were surprisingly okay with. She has dictated their movements across training and has accumulated the loathing of every other tribute outside of her alliance, and possibly even some inside it, by unabashedly praising the Capital and instilling fear in other tributes by bullying them. She seems to be a bit oblivious to how many tributes will be gunning for her, and her own pride and trust in and underestimation of her allies could be her downfall.
Interview Notes: Imperia is by far the most patriotic tribute of the Games and the most eager to display this, and so she will most likely want to devote a hefty portion of her interview to thanking the Capitol, though intimidation is one of her primary goals. She will be easy to read as a host and see what direction she wants to go in.
Other Notes: Imperia comes from a family of Peacekeepers, and her eldest father was even offered the position of mayor in District Nine but refused, saying he had important business, which was most likely training his daughter. Like I said earlier, Imperia could win, or her brazenness and cockiness could end her game early.
D9M
Name: Coleus Yarrow
Age: 16
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Coleus first demonstrated knowledge of edible bugs and scored a ninety-three, before doing the same on an edible plants test and scoring an eighty-eight. He seemed to be the most nervous of any of the tributes, and this could have affected his memory and decision-making ability. He then stood aimlessly for a minute before deciding to brew a poison of which he displayed a decent knowledge. He finished out his session by coating darts in the poison and blowing them at targets with moderate success.
Relations to Other Tributes: Coleus has remained intentionally closed off with everyone, especially his district partner. He has been approached by Tessa Oakhart but entertained her conversation for only a few minutes before leaving her. He seems to be a bit paranoid of being betrayed.
Interview Notes: Coleus probably won't give you very much, so it will take some effort to get him out of his shell, and you may have to resort to more basic questions. If he wants to be forgettable and fall into the background, he'll probably die anyway. It doesn't seem to be a contrived strategy and more sheer paranoia and introvertedness. He does have a girlfriend, so you could try using her to bait some personality out of him.
Other Notes: Nothing in particular is standout about Coleus. He makes good grades, his family owns a bakery, and his life seems average. His girlfriend's best friend died of an unknown poison almost a year ago, which could be affecting his paranoia, as he could be potentially worrying that the same thing could happen to him or someone close to him.
D10F
Name: Rhiannon Castor
Age: 15
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Rhiannon acted disinterested for most of her session and walked leisurely and without purpose from station to station. She scored well on an herbal recognition test, and then then edible plants test directly after, and then wandered over to the camouflage kit, where she concealed herself into a grassy swamp by using minimal paint, more-so mud, grass, and leaves. Her performance at this was average for a private session.
Relations to Other Tributes: Rhiannon has also purposefully gone without interacting with any other tribute. She was originally standoffish yet cordial to her district partner Raihan, but blew up at him in an incident on the second morning of training on their floor where she revealed some polarizing viewpoints. He has been scared by this, but still is nice to Rhiannon. Tessa Oakhart, the other twelve-year-old, also approached her to socialize, but was coldly turned down, since Rhiannon gave her nothing in the one-sided conversation she tried to start.
Interview Notes: Let Rhiannon talk about what she likes about nature and keep her peaceful. This could keep her fresh in the memories of some Capitalites and steer her away from being someone more unlikable. The creepy nature girl is a good archetype for her to fill.
Other Notes: In her tirade, Rhiannon revealed that she would rather there be no humanity, and that she would go to extreme measures to accomplish this if necessary, which paves the way for more sinister actions. She could be an easy one to break, as she may already be there. An interesting parallel is that her uncle is a famous animal poacher and slaughtere in Ten, and this could have something to do with her beliefs.
D10M
Name: Raihan Everstow
Age: 12
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Looking optimistic, Raihan first ran the agility course, but had many frequent stumbles and seemed to let his nerves get to him. He ended up with a time outside of the top fifty percent. He then moved onto the camouflage station and painted himself into the grass, though on the zoom-in camera his arm was clearly discernible and looked like the artwork of a typical twelve-year-old, which is to say less than perfect. Raihan then failed an edible berries test, which furthered his discouragement. Tears were slipping out of his eyes as he left.
Relations to Other Tributes: Raihan is in the misfit alliance and is currently taking the role of the baby. He genuinely likes all of his allies from what we can tell, especially Bolt Dattery, whom he has been comforted and supported by individually. The two have formed a brotherly connection. Raihan is also friendly with his ex-allies the Sevens and has also made an effort to still be nice to Aleyn Garsow (D11) despite his quietness and soft rebuttals. Rhiannon still is in Raihan's good graces, and he probably has convinced himself that she meant no harm in her speech. He is quite afraid of the careers, specifically Imperia, who has singled him out on multiple occasions.
Interview Notes: Be gentle with Raihan; he gets overwhelmed and emotional easily. Cuteness is his go-to, so play that up and highlight his relationships with allies, which will endear him to the audience and serve as a refresher of the alliance. Be prepared to help articulate the dialogue of a child his age or younger.
Other Notes: Raihan has very little chance of survival, and if he makes it past the bloodbath, will likely float with his allies until he can't do so anymore and then perish. Contrary to this, he is outwardly lustful of heroism and courage, and may try to pull something like this instead of chickening out.
D11F
Name: Sierra Hay-Fields
Age: 17
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Sierra was the only tribute to show off their hand-to-hand combat skills, which she did first by facing off against an advanced level trainer, whom she fought gruelingly, trading many blows before winning. She seemed to be too prone to making bold and risky movements, but to be fair her sheer defense and the fact that she hardly wavered when hit was shockingly good. She then moved onto squatting staggering weights twenty pounds heavier than she was. After this, she needed a two-minute break to regain her strength, and then showed refined technique with the scythe as she slashed up multiple dummies. Exhaustion seemed to have been a detriment to her overall performance; as her slashing wore on it became less methodical and more like repetitive drudgery.
Relations to Other Tributes: Sierra is in the misfit alliance and has become the visible leader due to her large presence, charisma, tact, and leadership skills. While all of her allies embrace the leadership, Nerissa seems to have more indiscreet sway over the group than she realizes, if she realizes at all. She has bonded one-on-one with all of her allies and is still welcoming to Tessa and Rowan. In particular, she has been very motivating to Tabitha Declan (D12) and is the closest to her of any of her allies. Sierra has also tried to maintain a steady bond with her district partner Aleyn, though he distanced himself from the alliance early on. Sierra doesn't understand why and seems to be slightly insulted by it. Lastly, she hates the careers and has stood up to Imperia on multiple occasions. She has made a large target out of herself, but we wouldn't be surprised if she takes the initiative and goes for Imperia first.
Interview Notes: Sierra will give the crowd a story. She is very bold, charismatic, and stuck in her boots. She has an interesting backstory but is likely to devote most of her time to talking up herself and her allies before digging into Imperia.
Other Notes: Sierra was a star student in every way in her district, so much so that she was able to stay in school until now but has recently been involved with a trouble-making faction that is suspected of rebel intentions. This is a probable reason for her distaste of the careers. While she is very protective and cunning, she also has no filter and is prideful, which could lead to a hard downfall.
D11M
Name: Aleyn Garsow
Age: 14
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Aleyn walked into the sessions with a completely different persona than what we normally see from him: He was cool, cold, and cocky. At the knife station, he stabbed dummies repeatedly with the jabbing motion and had a grim smirk of enjoyment on his face some of the time. After that, he faced a mid-level trainer with the knives and won after feigning an attack and then kicking the trainer in multiple tender areas, leaving him hurt and on the floor. Points were docked because he did not follow the protocol of not hurting the trainer while he was down.
Relations to Other Tributes: Aleyn was very briefly in the misfit alliance before withdrawing on the first day of training for reasons he would not say. He is most likely fearful that his alternate persona, most likely the one in the Private Session, could harm them. He has constantly rebuked Raihan, Bolt, and Sierra's failed attempts to invite him back in. He has bonded over his mental illness with Scylla Frigard and Carroll Heinback, both of whom were able to decipher his behavior as being affected by it. He has no formal alliance.
Interview Notes: Depending on who is interviewed, Aleyn's interview could vary drastically. If it is the timid child, try to coax answers out of him and make him seem mysterious, leaving viewers speculating on how he got his score. If it is the alter ego, ask him why he volunteered and try to make him seem lethal and villainous, which shouldn't be hard.
Other Notes: After analysis of tapes from experts on mental illness, they have concluded it is very likely that Carroll was indeed correct. We will see on the psych evaluation some evidence to prove or disprove this. If it is true, Aleyn is potentially one of the most unpredictable and dangerous tributes in this year's crop and will be very entertaining to watch if he begins to switch between his identities. He could also receive sponsors from different organizations, and explanations on his condition may be required depending on how long he survives.
D12F
Name: Tabitha Declan
Age: 13
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Tabitha spent the whole time hopping from survival station to survival station, where she took many tests and came out with a wide array of results varying from 92% to 44%. He confidence seemed to dip down and climb back up towards the middle, and she applied strong effort to doing well, something that hasn't been seen from her yet. Afterwards, she built a passable fire and tied knots, though Tessa and Keeley did much better than her.
Relations to Other Tributes: Tabitha is the quietest in the misfit alliance, and rarely talks, more preferring to listen to the others, though she obviously enjoys their presence and has endeared herself to them. She idolizes Sierra and has been motivated by her to apply herself. She tried to approach her district partner twice but was angrily yelled away in tears both times.
Interview Notes: Tabitha will probably be the most nervous of any tributes, but she has talked with Nerissa and Sierra about enjoying fashion, so that may be something to latch onto. Focus on Sierra's impact on her and her appreciation of the Capital. She is an orphan, and that won't do her any favors.
Other Notes: Even if Tabitha tries, she likely will die early, but Sierra and her allies seem to be encouraging her on principle. District Twelve's drabness seems to have rubbed itself into her, and everything about her is resigned, so she won't be much good for television value.
D12M
Name: Rooker Hilt
Age: 13
Skills Displayed in Private Session: Rooker switched between a few different weapons and failed miserably with all of them since they were all to heavy and big for him. He quickly began to break down in anger, and took out his fury on the Gamemakers, trainers, Avoxes, and Peacekeepers. After hurting his foot and making no headway with the dummies, he ran away and threw a tantrum. His side has been bothering him throughout training, and the medical evaluation will likely reveal a preexisting injury.
Relations to Other Tributes: Rooker has rudely turned down any invitation into an alliance, taking it as others taking pity on him or perceiving him as weak. It could just be his horrible personality. He scared his district partner and acted as if he enjoyed it as it distracted him from the task at hand. He dislikes the careers, specifically Arlo from Two, as he was forced by Imperia to taunt and bully him on the second day. This ha intimidated him even if he doesn't want to admit it.
Interview Notes: There is no turning Rooker into a likable person, so just go along with his petulance and turn him into a comic relief caricature of himself. At least that way people will remember him. Be wary of an attempt at physical harm, and don't be afraid to harm him instead., He is only a Twelve, afterall, and already damaged goods.
Other Notes: Rooker's anger and temper will definitely spell his doom. A death by taking on someone far too strong or trying to face an impossible task in very likely. At least he'll be funny before he is killed. We will be interrogating him shortly to inquire on what all he picked up, and also to keep it quiet.
Viola Velveteen, 20, Capital Citizen and Gamemaking Intern
The keyboard clicks one final, satisfying time as I finish typing the final words. It echoes off of the thick black marble walls of the hallway that descends down the flights of stairs beneath my feet, resounding from the top to the bottom. It feels good to be at the top. One could say that Cassiopeia Obsidian is at the top theoretically and opposed to physically, and they would technically be correct, but I'm the one who just typed out this entire report without her even requesting a proofread. Besides, she won't be there fr much longer if I have anything to do with it. Sure, I haven't found anything that seems surreptitiously rebellious about her, more surreptitiously negligent, but I'll make something up if I have to just to spice things up.
Fake news isn't that different from real news anyway, just as long as you're the one to deliver, and if it ever is proven false, you have enough time to distance yourself from it. That same feeling of vindictive superiority is still there, that same clinging to me now, permeating the charcoal chamber like smoke stemming from me as I finish looking over my handiwork. Cassiopeia couldn't have done something as beautiful even if she tried.
Incompetent old bitch. Her time is nearly over.
It's still entertaining to watch her, though, to navigate the even higher collar world that President Nero has so graciously introduced me to. I won't let him down. I've been watching my boss for the past three days like a hawk, and there still hasn't been a trace. It's infuriating, almost as infuriating as her obnoxious, insufferable, hollow laugh, or the grimace of a smile that she wears just to show off her ugly tongue piercing. It's so out of fashion, too. She wouldn't know. I would. I know more than her.
She has no idea how I've been following her every move. At this moment, I have a camera feed of her office. She isn't doing anything interesting right now though, just turning the lights on and off indecisively as she tries to force herself into a midafternoon ciesta.
3:15- Tried to force herself to get some beauty sleep. She sure needs it.
The least that I can do is pepper the log that President Nero told me to make with some humor to make it less mind-numbingly boring. I can't help reliving that moment in every second of my spare time, the way he looked upon me with those strong, icy blue eyes and looked truly like a lion as he told me what he wanted me to do. I vowed to obey him to the last second, and I don't intend to break that promise anytime soon. He gave me that big break I was always destined to receive, and now I can really begin to climb the social ladder.
Soon, I'll be higher up than any of them, Head Gamemaker, Mistress of the Arena. And then I'll truly get to be the best as I sit upon the top of this chamber from my desk, down, down, down, to all of those even furthest beneath me. That infinite sustenance of the thrill of being better than them is nearly within my grasp, and Cassiopeia Obsidian is only the first to stand in my way. I'll make quick work of her soon, anyway.
I was the one who told her about Cornelius biting the dust. It felt so good to see that look of shock and worry on her face, because I knew deep down that all she felt was fear for her own invaluable little life and jealously that I found out before she did. President Nero's secretary warned me herself over the phone. And, now that the worry has been cleared up and the night spent in that dreadful bunker has been completed, it's time to fully relish in the drama of it all. This is much better than the stuff that Vivienne watches, stuffing her face with caramel corn on the sofa as soap operas play on the television screen.
The even interviewed me! I was the first one out of the building, and the first one pulled aside by the indigo-haired man clad in the matching tuxedo and shades. I didn't waste the opportunity.
As for the actual evident serial killer at hand, I'm not worried. They don't know that I'm so closely connected with the president, so why should they try to target me? Even if they did, I'm so closely protected that they couldn't reach me. A taut anticipation permeates the walls of the business and Games-involved of who will be revealed dead in the newsletter next. In a way, it's exciting!
It's time to go show Cassiopeia the final product. She told me on Monday that there would be a meeting about garnering bets and sponsors, but I don't know who'll be there. I bend my index finger backwards to compensate for the three-inch cerulean fingernail glued to it and press "print" on the computer and push myself up from the plush, velvet office chair. My heels, mauve and embedded with diamonds from my first paycheck, clack across the floor as a whirring sound fills the air as the report slides out.
Amidst the noise, there is a disturbance as an Avox opens the door for someone to enter, presumable for the meeting… It's him! Apollo fucking Vanahara is standing there in the doorway, gelled hazel hair glistening in some magical sunlight as his blue eyes beam their way through his round glasses to meet mine!
I nearly drop the printed stack, fumbling with it and throwing it to onto the linoleum desk in a dignified attempt to recover and look casual.
"Stable that and make ten copies," I command to one of my personal Avoxes before turning back to meet Apollo.
A true lady never loses her dignity. A Velveteen lady never loses her dignity. That's what Mama said all of those times that we sat in the tearoom encircling the table, contrary to Vivienne smacking on her shortcake and slurping her tea before dabbing at and staining the numerous tablecloths that decorated the room. I was the best, and all three of us knew it. Just look at where I am now as Vivienne sits at home filling out admission essays to try and scrape a living by as a mutt builder, professional model, photographer, and/or fashion designer. I'm not going to let Mama down now.
Coming off as haughty and self-assured is just part of the game. Fuse it with a dash of polish, manners, beauty, and charm, and you've got yourself a potent combination. I've got myself a potent combination. I won't let the beating in my heart do the thinking for me. I'll show him why I'm better than all of the other girls and better than him. I'll make him want me without him even knowing that I'm trying to.
The chamber is a bit long, though. His walk up is agonizingly awkward, but not if I can do anything about it. I stay standing, waiting for him to meet me. I won't come to him.
"You must be here for the meeting, right?" I ask him, extending my hand for him to shake as he reaches me. He kisses it instead, kneeling down so that his crisp navy be-suited knee brushes the floor. Butterflies flutter in my stomach.
"Yes, I am." He stands back up. "Pleasure meeting you. I'm Apollo—"
"Vanahara, and you filled in for Catonius Flickerman before the news got out. You did a much better job, too."
He raises an eyebrow, impressed. "And you are?"
"Viola Velveteen, Head Gamemaking Assistant." I intentionally phrase the title so that the lines between secretary and advisor are ambiguous. "And about Catonius, I'm sorry, that must have hit hard, and during a time like this, especially."
"Oh, it did, and thank you for being so thoughtful. I worked under him for a few years, splendid man, he was, and an even better entertainer. It was his time to leave the commentary booth, but not the world. He still had a good few golden years left in him."
He looks into my eyes again, and they never seem to leave. I won't let myself be the one to break it, because the one who does is the weaker of the pair, and because I don't want to lose that feeling that I get when I stare into his. We both know that neither one of us could give a damn about Catonius Flickerman, and that Apollo Vanahara is lightning on television.
"I heard about Cornelius as well," I add in a hushed, grieving yet animated tone, spurring on more information. "They say you were one of the last to see him before he passed."
Maybe now that I've introduced myself to him, I can try to coax out a little more top-secret information regarding the string of murders, the kinds of stuff that they don't display in the news. It's all a matter of letting the words slide out in that curious, seductive way as they caress the bottom lip and curl it into a coy simper. I might just be able to scoot in a little closer to Apollo as well.
"I may have been," he wistfully, pinching his eyebrows together as he looks into the distance in that somber way that movies stars can't even hold a candle to. I can't lose it all for him; I've got to keep that since of superior rigidity and knowledge, that satisfying feeling of making everyone around you seem ignorant. That's how you pull them in: Sheep who want a leader, boys who want a girl who knows what they desire.
"Or, the last excluding the killers, or killers."
"Them and Pennyworth, unless they're one in the same. I'm not supposed to let you in on this, but I can sense that you're special: Cornelius was going to meet Pennyworth to discuss classified information involving the tribute scores being represented on the Betting Board. Whether he met up with him or not is to be determined."
Now I'm finally getting somewhere.
"Odysseus Pennyworth, the new head of the Pennyworth Betting Center? The teenager? That would be a twist, but why? He could be trying to get ahead. His father was the first victim, remember, and he inherited the fortune."
"That's exactly what I was thinking!" Apollo's hushed voice raises into an excited yell of a whisper, and I can smell icy mint air exuding from his baritone voice as we lock our gazes again, and I feel a buzzing coursing through my feet.
As for Odysseus Pennyworth, his time might just be up. Now I know something incriminating, and however arduous it will be not to brag to Vivi or Vincent or anyone else, I won't, because I would be failing President Nero if I did. I already have once, and I won't repeat it. The new evidence all but condemns him.
"They've already interrogated him," Apollo says, his eyes peering through his thin lenses knowingly, anticipating the question. "He wouldn't give them anything, and he said he didn't know, but he was so nervous and antsy that he was bound to be lying about something or other. His little sister tried to give an alibi for him, but it was so weak you could have shattered it by blowing too hard."
"Well that settles that matter—I'm certain it's that boy—but what about the scores? What kind of a meeting is this?" I ask as I lean into him on the toes of my right foot, flicking my turquoise hair over my shoulder once again as I slim the gap between up even further. "You know, I typed up the report on the scores themselves, and I know about how to tell a story."
"Then you know what this is about. You're fixing the scores, it's obvious. But the meeting is on gathering up interest and all of that fun stuff."
The voice that speaks is deep but feminine, smooth and buttery. Amalfi Belfast, the Victors' Liaison, closes the distance between us. Before her presence was so stealthy that it went unnoticed under my… enamored spout, but now she commands the granite walls of this room, making the imposing walls her own. I can see now why she won her Hunger Games. She smiles up at us, but it holds no substance, just a mask all of those girls who think they're beautiful wear to hide their insecurity and boredom. Her face is already worn, though it is framed well by her golden-blonde hair. She really should have some work done. You're never too young to start.
"Now hurry up, will you," she calls out, her stormy blue dress swishing in the air when she turns back to call for someone behind her.
That someone is Odysseus Pennyworth. This day just can't get any better!
For a second as she turns around to face us once again, her green eyes show something like tenderness, or sympathy, before glossing back over to their unflappable, wise state.
Apollo extends his hand out to meet her, and she accepts. "Nice to see you again, Cordelia," he greets warmly.
"Same."
She pauses, coming to a graceful halt as Odysseus begins to fumble with papers and speed up to meet her. Taking the initiative, I introduce myself.
"Hi, I'm Viola Velveteen. I'm Cassiopeia's assistant."
Despite my sweetness, Cordelia doesn't smile.
"Pleasure," she says curtly, though it looks like anything but, judging from the evident boredom spreading down her face. She must not even care that she looks like a bitch. I hate those people, the ones who don't conform to the system and lack any ambition to do anything, the ones that you can't get anything out of.
"Good afternoon," rings through the hall in Odysseus's rather high-pitched voice as he makes it to us, still shuffling his papers. "We haven't met formally yet, but I'm Odysseus Pennyworth, head of the Pennyworth Betting Center." He has regained his composure by now, and currently just looks mildly uncomfortable and worried. He must be a novice, just like me. The difference between the two of us is that you could never tell I haven't been in this position for a decade; at least, you couldn't if I wasn't so young and gorgeous.
Odysseus holds out his hand to shake, and I reach forward to accept the invitation first. It's clammy. As my fingers slide across his sweaty palm, his eyes widen, mortified, and his face begins to flush again. I giggle inside, staring back at him, but keeping my lips closed. Just the fastest way to get him indebted to me.
His hands brush across his golden slacks in a way he tries to make look casual before he does the same to Apollo.
The question of why I am socializing with a murderer does cross my mind, but I brush it off. If anything, the fact that he's a murderer only makes him more intriguing, and Vivienne would certainly be anguished if she knew that I was hanging out with Odysseus Pennyworth, let alone Cordelia Belfast and Apollo Vanahara. I can't wait to brag to her about all of this!
"So, Odysseus, how've you been hanging?" Apollo asks him cordially, cocking his head in a casual manner to make small talk.
"Good… With the murder investigation and the new promotion and everything, I haven't really been able to have a reprieve to relax in a while. I don't know how you do it."
The boys quickly ramp up a conversation, showcasing their acquired charm. Odysseus really isn't bad, far from it, but he has nothing on Apollo, and he knows it. The conversation itself is disinteresting, so I move over to Cordelia. I want to get more out of her. I've never talked with a Victor before either, but I won't tell her that.
"Cordelia, let me tell you," I start, advancing in as I start my attempts at flattery, "the finale of your Games was the best that I can remember! Thank you so much for giving me a moment to cherish!"
Her eyes, the color of the sea of her district, bore back into mine as if they are lasers. She is unmoved.
"Let me tell you something, Viola Velveteen," she rebukes as she takes a powerful step towards me, and I'm suddenly struck by how tall she really is. "I don't give a damn about your flattery, don't try that on me. You think that you're so smart and cunning, but you're just like the rest of your kind: Conceited and naïve and certain that you're going to be the next big superstar. That may work on some of you Capitalites, but don't try that on us Victors."
"Don't overblow it, that was sincere," I say, laughing contrivedly as I place a hand to my chest in mock shock. I keep the same tone of humor as my voice lowers. "Wait and see."
She may think that she's all that, but she hasn't seen the last of me. There isn't a chance in hell of that. She thinks that she is infallible to me, impervious to me, but give it a few years, and I will be lording over her. I'm already on my way to the top. She'll see. Then I'll be able to exercise my full power, have something real and intransient to latch onto and hold over her head as something that makes me truly superior to her. She's only a district whore that got a ticket to freedom. I was born in this life, and I am going to make the best of it that I can. The best is far from now.
The Ministers of Finance and Patriotic Capital Sentiment Arrive, and on cue Cassiopeia saunters out of her office as an Avox holds the door for her. She looks sicker than yesterday, paler and with dark rings under her eyes, accompanied by an unpleasant grimace. It's only one of many signs that she's on the way out, and when she finally goes, I'll be swooping in to snatch control right from her fingertips. My time is coming, and I'm losing my patience. I can't wait to stand upon that obsidian throne and rule over all of them so sternly and viciously, to finally enact and flex my power.
"Come in, everyone," she says, casting a distasteful glower my eyes.
I stand alone as the other five make their way to the looming doorway hanging in space so cruelly and tantalizingly. Why should they be able to go and not me?! I deserve to be in there!
"You too, Miss Veleveteen, you'll be taking notes," Cassiopeia adds before shrinking back behind the wall as her visitors pass through.
A feeling of elation passes through me, and I try not to let it show, though it manifests in a satisfied smirk. Even if taking notes is a deplorable position, I'll still be in on everything, and knowledge is such a handing tool in causing the envy of others and supplication to get the same insight.
I pass through the doorway last, feeling a gust of chilly air as it swishes closed.
"You'll be doing the same for the interrogations," Cassiopeia says begrudgingly, not meeting my eyes.
My elation compounds. This is only getting better and better! I can't wait to flaunt this later, but right now I have a job to do. Soon, I'll be moving onto something much more glamorous, past these petty thrills and onto a high mound of superiority. I guess I'll just have to settle for this information as of now, which is no bummer. I ready my hands, my eyes, and my ears, ready to soak up as much as I can.
"Now, let's get started," Cassiopeia says awkwardly.
Let's get started indeed, Cassiopeia. Let's get started indeed.
First off, to all of my readers out there, I am so sorry that this took me so long to push out. Getting back into the swing of things in school, homework, extracurricular activities, my job, and my social life are taking up a hefty amount of time, but I am never going to drop off of this site anytime soon, and fully intend to have this story finished by 2023. Those of you on discord already know this, and those of you who aren't should pop in by PMing me or somebody else prominent on Fanfic to get an invite, you won't regret it.
With that out of the way, what did you think of the chapter? Please give your thoughts on the Private Sessions especially. Were there any surprise descriptions? Any you enjoyed or disliked specifically? Anything you had forgotten and didn't know about the tribute that you found out? Tell me in the reviews! I also would like to hear your thoughts on the subplot, and that includes critiques along with what you like. I'm proud of this and there is a lot more to come that I was initially expecting to divulge in this chapter, but I'm waiting a bit longer for the pacing, since that seems right. I know that this is an ambitious subplot for a debut SYOT, but I'm excited to further it in later chapters and stories, and I think that I can more than handle it. We got a refresh for a few characters and got to meet some more, so tell me all about them in particular and your predictions on the roles that they will play later on.
I'll be working very hard to get the next update out, and I'm having an extended weekend sometime soon, so I think two weeks is a reasonable deadline for me. Be on the lookout for POVs from Arlo, Cassius, Aleyn, and Rowan! See you guys next time, all of you readers are awesome! I'll see you next time.
