He'll be all right.
She can tell. She can see the electricity running through his circuits, the blood running in his veins, mechanical parts working in an odd sort of symphony with what's left of the organic. She watches his chest rise and fall. Every beat of his heart is closely observed.
She doesn't have to be here next to him. She could be half a city away and still see what's happening. But… after what happened, she can't stop the almost primal need to reach out and touch him, to make sure he really is here with her, that his body isn't cold.
Joe's body is warm under her fingertips, and Francoise smiles through her tears.
He'll be all right.
