Arthur laid in his bed, thinking about nothing and everything at the same time as he notched that the door to his room slowly opened. He flung up to seated position and grabbed his sword that laid beside his bed, now pointing it towards the door.
''Hi'' Elena's head appeared and she looked at him with troubled eyes.
''Elena? You startled me'' he said as he lowered his sword, looking at the girl that now stood by his door. She was wearing her nightstand and looked like an angel, but her eyes were sad.
''What's wrong?'' he said worried as he now placed his feet on the ground, still sitting on his bed. She observed him for a while, he could tell that whatever she was about to say she was torn about it.
''I think I need to leave Camelot'' she finally said and he felt how his heart left his body and emptiness filled his chest.
''What?!'' he said and rose.
''Why, did something happen?!'' he was aware that he had started to panic, but right now he didn't really care. She shook her head no and looked at him.
''I love you Arthur Pendragon, so I can't be near you because it hurts me to see you all the time'' she sobbed and he started to walk closer to her, not too fast to not alarm her. When he reached her he just pressed her against his body and laid one hand behind her head that he had placed against his chest, and the other hand on her waist. She finally said it.
''I don't know what to do'' she continued to sob and he parted with her body to look at her. He wiped some tears off her cheeks and cleared his throat as he brushed his hands down his sides a little nervously. She looked at him a little confused, but not until he started going down on one knee did she understand what he was about to do, her eyes widened.
''Elena, will you marry me?'' he said and looked at her. She covered her mouth in shock and just stood there, staring at him.
''Arthur… I…'' she was stunned.
''I… yes... but,'' she said without noticing it herself and Arthur rose, lifted her up and pressed his lips against hers. They just stood there, kissing each other before they had to part to get some air. He smiled at her and she smiled confused back at him, a million thoughts crossed her mind.
''But… Ella? I don't think it works like that, Arthur?'' she said and arched her eyebrows. He just looked at her, still smiling, she said yes.
''I don't care, I'll handle it'' he said and pressed her into another kiss.

It was the night of the ball, and Arthur had tried to find Ella for hours. He now sat beside his father as the guests started to enter and suddenly he spotted Ella. She smiled as soon as she saw him, this was his shot to talk to her.
''Ella! You look beautiful'' Uther said and Arthur remembered that this was a ball, there were people around.
''Yes, fantastic'' Arthur said as Ella took his side and greeted him with a kiss on the cheek. How will he talk to her with all these people around, on a ball that's more or less heald for the two of them? Maybe he should wait until tomorrow?, he thought.
''Ah Elena, you are certainly sent from above'' Arthur heard his father say and turned towards where Uther was looking. Elena had entered, she had a red dress on and looked unreal, he couldn't help but stare at her beauty and noticed Ella catching him.
''Your highness, no one flatters me more than you'' she smiled before turning her head towards Arthur, locking her eyes on Ella's hand that was placed on his shoulder. He looked at her and knew what she was thinking, but as he opened his mouth to speak, she cut him off.
''Arthur, Ella, you both look amazing'' she said and smiled. There it was again, that sad smile that he now knew by heart.
''Thank you, and you look stunning as always Elena!'' Ella said with joy. Elena thanked her and just as Arthur tried to move toward her, she turned and disappeared among the crowd. Arthur felt how his heart started to beat faster and he aimed to go after her when Ella suddenly grabbed his arm.
''Where are you going?'' she said and he looked at her. He felt sorry for her, she had done him nothing wrong, but she was not the one he wanted.
''I'm sorry'' he said and kept on going, By the look in her eyes, he knew she knew.
Arthur ran around and tried to spot Elena among all the people.
''Hi, have you seen Elena?'' Arthur asked as he spotted Lydia, Lancelot and Mordred. They all turn towards him.
''Hi! Yes, she was just here, I think she went…'' and before Lydia had the chance to say anything else, Arthur was already heading towards the direction she pointed him to. The three of them looked at each other before looking back at Arthur that disappeared among the bodies.
Arthur presses himself forward and dodged everyone that tried to approach him. Then he saw her, walking out of the ballroom.
''Elena!'' he shouted and she turned around a little surprised.
''Oh, hi Arthur'' she said as he ran up to her.
''I'm sorry you had to see that, I tried to…'' he began but she cut him off.
''No that's okay, I think it was good. It gave us some perspective on how foolish we are acting right now and…''
''Foolish? What do you mean? I want to marry you!'' he marked, breathing heavily. She observed him for a while before placing a soft smile on her face.
''Arthur, I really meant what I said before, it hurts me to see you and I just can't take it. We can't get married because you are engaged to Ella. And that's okay, it really is, but we can't do this to each other'' she said softly and he just looked at her. He knew that what she said had truth in it, but he would not lose her again.
He turned and walked into the ballroom again.
''Excuse me. Excuse me!'' he shouted to get everyone's attention. The music stopped and everybody turned to face him. He looked at Ella and she looked back at him.
''Ella, you are an amazing woman, who's caring and beautiful and smart and funny and everything… but you're not the one I'm in love with'' he exhaled and heard how some people started to mumble around him.
''What?! He does not mean that, he…'' Uther tried but Ella lifted her hand towards him and he stopped. She was still looking at Arthur, and he was still looking at her. She closed her eyes and sighed before opening them again, placing a fade smile on her face.
''You know I saw this coming... a girl knows when the man she loves is in love with someone else. And if it wasn't for the sake that it was her, I would fight back. She's really one of a kind. I'm sad for me, but I'm happy for you, Arthur'' she said and Arthur looked stunned at her. Never in a million years would he have thought that that would be her response. He gave away a slow nod to show his gratitude.
''Who?!'' Uther broke the silence and looked as confused as a human being could be. Arthur turned towards him and smiled before turning his head towards the entrance, meeting her stunned eyes.
''Elena'' he said and the whole room turned to look at her, she just stared at him in shock over what he had just done.
Suddenly everyone started to cheer as Arthur walked up to her, picked her up and kissed her. She was his.
