Hello my fellow Frozen fans. GLG here and a Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. Now, as some of you may know, the first anniversary of Frozen 2 has passed, and I was going to post this on that day to celebrate, but then it hit me: why not kick this off with a Thanksgiving special? Either way, if you ask me, this is a golden opportunity to start a new Frozen fic that in my true-to-goodness opinion, stands out.
Now...I have seen other fan stories that discuss the possibility of warfare, and that's part of why I like Frozen so much: it's a case of unused potential done correctly. In other words: Frozen's popularity is well-deserved, but there's still quite a bit that can be done with it. But unlike alot of series with unused and especially wasted potential, this case is absolutely no one's fault; Frozen is the way it is for a reason. There's plenty of Disney movies out there that touch on the subject of warfare, my personal favorite being Mulan (the REAL Mulan, from the 1990's) but Frozen was never put into that mold, even though I think it has the potential to fit quite well, for the right reasons too.
With that out of the way, let me tell you some things: I would say "spoiler alert" but...if you haven't seen both Frozen films...frankly it's none of my business why that is, but it's still something to consider for this story. Next, outside of the big five, that being Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, and last but not least, Olaf, as well as a buttload of OCs, I'm not using anyone from the official cast in a major way, at least as far as I've planned. Finally, since this is going to involve war, things will get nasty in later chapters, brutal even, but if you can handle what happens in the Avengers movies, or anything in Star Wars as a series, you can handle this no problem.
So without further ado, Magical Land of Arendelle, we're on our way!
It's been just over a year since Elsa stayed behind to look after the people of the Enchanted Forest as the Fifth Spirit, and Princess Anna became Queen Anna, and Arendelle has been no worse off. Her people were as happy and healthy as they were under Elsa's monarchy, and in some cases, better. Her Majesty had a decent time adjusting to becoming queen; sure her own life had debatably improved, and she was surrounded by subjects who worshiped the air she inhaled and exhaled, but there was also a decent amount of pressure. She had quite a few decisions to make as queen, from where to focus manpower, where to focus resource flow, and she had to meet with foreign dignitaries, knight a few people who were worthy, but ultimately, if Elsa could handle it, so could she.
Words could not express how thankful she was for all the years she observed Elsa when she was queen...even when miles away from home, she was still the big sister Anna needed and loved with all her being. A bridge has two sides afterall, and the two daughters of the late Queen Iduna truly were inseparable, even by distance. Of course, Elsa occasionally crossed that distance thanks to the Nokk, also known as the Water Spirit, in order to visit the family she never truly left.
Every time she arrived, the people were as awestruck as ever; Elsa was a vision before she became the Fifth Spirit, but afterwards...she didn't even look human anymore. Her porcelain skin reflected the sun and even moonlight, and her dress might as well have been made of solid light. Her free-flowing hair was the icing on the cake considering how many people were used to seeing it tied up in braids.
When she wasn't being looked over by the people, she spent every second she could with her sister and new brother-in-law Kristoff, his faithful reindeer companion Sven. Then there was of course her most treasured creation, Olaf the talking snowman who was a living monument to the bond between the two sisters. There was nothing the family didn't do together, from Elsa giving Anna a hand with something she had trouble with, to going on sled rides through the woods with Kristoff and Sven, to simply going around Arendelle interacting with people.
As for Kristoff and Sven themselves, despite the former being Prince Consort of Arendelle, they never abandoned their place in the ice trade, or their ties to the rock trolls. It never distracted him from his place at Anna's side in the court however; granted his non-noble status was a serious question mark for quite a few people, even though he and Anna were dating years prior, but it was nothing they couldn't handle. Their love was a secret to no one, and as queen, Anna could marry whomever she pleased, and her choice wasn't flexible in the least.
The Arendelle troops who returned home from being trapped within the Enchanted Forest adjusted to the difference between how their home is now compared to how it was over thirty years prior with various levels of difficulty. Most troops simply accepted the changes and went with them, but others were legitimately lost. Destin Mattias, who was now a general, was the smoothest case by far. Since he was the personal guard to Anna and Elsa's father back in the day, it was only fitting he do the same for her. He even gave her sword skills some sharpening; Anna has used blades before, but it was never serious until now.
Mattias even married his sweetheart Halima, and both Anna and Elsa were there for it.
Today was Thanksgiving...and some things really do never change. Anna was in bed with her hair puffing out in all directions, and she was still drooling and snoring. That was about to end however as Kristoff approached their bed, perfectly dressed for the day in his royal suit, and his hair straightened out.
"Anna? Oh Anna..." He said softly, but Anna simply stirred.
"Five more minutes..." She breathed out.
"It's Thanksgiving you know." Kristoff said.
"I know..." Anna said.
"And Elsa's going to be here soon." Kristoff said, and Anna immediately gasped, sat up and smiled brightly.
"She is?" She asked seriously.
"Yep, now get out of bed and get ready for her!" Kristoff exclaimed as he yanked the covers off his wife before she rushed over to the changing panel, slide across the floor, caught herself before she could hit the wall, then started changing into her dress.
Once she got changed and braided her hair, she was just in time; she looked out the window and saw a figure she'd know anywhere walking down the hall.
"Elsa!" Anna exclaimed as she ran to her older sister, who was extending her arms with the same smile she always graced Anna with before the two embraced.
"Happy Thanksgiving Anna." Elsa said softly.
"Happy Thanksgiving..." Anna said, before the two walked hand-in-hand to the main hall with Kristoff. When they got there, they saw the servants preparing tables and dishes galore. From turkeys, hams, and fish, to every type of fruit and vegetable one could think of, and course...
"Chocolate..." The two sisters breathed out at the same time as they stared at the bowls of chocolate pieces with various patterns on them.
"You two are hopeless." Kristoff said and both sisters giggled as Olaf rushed up the stairs to see the family.
"Hey! There you two are! How are the folks in dreamland?" He asked.
"They're doing fine Olaf." Anna said as she and Elsa knelt to Olaf's level.
"I hope they're giving as many thanks as we are. What are we giving thanks for anyway?" Olaf asked.
"Everything." Elsa said.
"Everything everything?" Olaf asked.
"Our family of course, but also what we have and that we got through what we had to go through to get it." Elsa said.
"And that we became closer and better than before." Kristoff said.
"That's right." Anna said before standing up and leaning into Kristoff's side.
"Well, we can't keep our people waiting can we?" He asked.
"No...no we can't." Anna said as she held both their hands and walked to the doors. When they approached, the guards opened the doors for them before Anna stepped forward. The courtyard was swarming with people setting food on the tables around the area with various decorations made of red, orange, yellow, and brown paper lined up around the walls and pillars.
"Queen Anna of Arendelle!" Kai said, then the people stopped what they were doing, and started clapping and cheering.
"Hello everyone, and a Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I'm glad you all took time out of your schedules, and took the time to prepare meals for each other, and we did the same for you all of course. On behalf of my family, thank you all for everything you did for this kingdom, and for the people of the Enchanted Forest, whom my sister watches over. Now...let the feast begin!" Anna said, and with that, the people clapped and cheered again, then food and drink started to flow.
"Sorry there isn't anything major for you to do with your powers." Kristoff said.
"It's o.k. I'll get a chance later." Elsa said.
"Why not just freeze the floor and give everyone skates? Oh wait, not in that order; that is not safe..." Olaf said.
"Still, skating with food in your stomach is not a good idea." Anna said.
"But I don't have a stomach...or teeth." Olaf said.
"No, but they do, and they're the ones whom you're suggesting the idea for." Anna said.
"Oh...but can't they just spit the food out before skating?" Olaf asked.
"It's not that simple Olaf, although...we should probably go inside so the rest of the food can come out." Elsa said.
"Good idea." Kristoff said and they went back inside as the servants brought out the rest of the food like they talked about, and the family sat down to have their own meals in peace.
"So...where's Mattias? I haven't seen him all morning." Elsa asked.
"He's at home with Halima. It's Thanksgiving so I want him to enjoy himself as much as the rest of us." Anna said.
"That was nice of you." Elsa said.
"You think they were in the crowd?" Kristoff asked.
"Oh wait, I saw two people who looked like them earlier." Olaf said.
"Why didn't you say so?" Anna asked seriously.
"I didn't think I had to." Olaf said.
"Oh well, at least they're enjoying themselves." Kristoff said.
"True." Anna said, and then they finished their meals and sat there resting.
"Oh wait! We forgot about Sven!" Kristoff exclaimed and everyone's eyes widened.
"You're right! We should get him involved in this." Anna said seriously.
"I'll go get him." Kristoff said as he left the dining room.
"So...how's the Enchanted Forest?" Anna asked.
"They're doing as fine as always, just like Arendelle is." Elsa said.
"And Ryder and Honeymaren?" Anna asked.
"They're fine too." Elsa said.
"I miss them sometimes, I miss all of you sometimes." Anna said.
"You know where to find us." Elsa said casually and Anne smiled.
"That I do..." She said softly.
"Come on, let's go see Kristoff and Sven." Elsa said and when the two women left the castle, and went to see Sven, they found the reindeer eating carrots when Kristoff hands them to him out of a basket. When Sven saw the two sisters, his face brightened and he walked over to them. Elsa giggled as she ran her hands over Sven's head with both of her human companions watching.
When the sun started to go down, Elsa hugged both Anna and Kristoff, then summoned the Nokk before riding it across the sea back to the forest. The people had all gone home hours ago, especially since the ice skating has worn some of them out. The rest of Anna's duties as queen needed to be given closure, but since most of it involved the Thanksgiving festival's ending, she wasn't daunted.
Now, Kristoff and Anna were getting ready for bed, with the former laying down on the bed, and Anna brushing her unbraided hair.
"That was a good Thanksgiving honey." Anna said.
"You're telling me, shame Elsa never got a chance to show off her magic that much...I mean minus the whole skating thing." Kristoff said.
"Like she said, she still got a chance." Anna said.
"You remember that?" Kristoff asked.
"I think you mean, you heard that." Anna said casually while copying his tone of voice.
"Very funny..." Kristoff deadpanned and Anna giggled before snuggling into Kristoff's bulk.
"Good night honey." Anna said.
"Good night hon-" Kristoff stopped talking once they heard the unmistakable sound of Elsa using magic outside, then Anna sat up quickly, and rushed for the door...then saw Elsa outside her window panting.
"Elsa? I thought you were going to the Enchanted Forest?" Anna asked.
"I was, but something stopped me...something bad." Elsa said seriously...then they heard thunder in the distance. She then went to look out the window with Elsa, and Anna's eyes widened. A hurricane, countless miles wide, was spotted in the distance, and lightning surged through it occasionally.
"Where did that come from?" Anna asked seriously as Kristoff went to see it for himself.
"Good question, the sky was perfectly clear all night." He said.
"That storm came out of nowhere." Elsa said seriously.
"How?" Anna asked.
"And why...?" Kristoff asked, and Elsa took a moment to think, then looked at Kristoff who nodded.
The trio took Olaf and Sven to the rock trolls' den, and as usual, they were all in their boulder forms, sleeping.
"Hey everyone! Sorry to wake you but-" Olaf stopped talking when the trolls all opened their eyes, looked at the group, and started blinking.
"Kristoff's back!" A troll exclaimed, and several trolls rolled to the ground Kristoff stood on, and hugged his legs.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Take it easy!" He exclaimed.
"Where were you?" A troll asked.
"How is your wife treating you?" Another troll asked.
"How are you treating her?" A third troll asked.
"How are the spirits Elsa?" A fourth troll asked.
"When are you having kids?" A child troll asked.
"I passed another kidney stone..." An older troll said as he hold up a rock.
"Guys! Please! This isn't a social visit! We have a serious problem!" Kristoff exclaimed.
"He's right, where's grandpabbie?" Elsa asked, then grandpabbie rolled through the dispersing crowd of trolls.
"I am here, Fifth Spirit." He said while bowing.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but...I was on my way back to the Enchanted Forest, and a storm came out of nowhere, and it seemed...magical." Elsa said.
"Ah yes...I have been monitoring these storms for some time now." He said.
"You mean...that wasn't the only one?" Elsa asked.
"No, not by any means." Grandpabbie said before conjuring magic in his hands, then a map of Scandinavia appeared overhead, and the images of storms appeared over land and sea alike in several places.
"What does this mean?" Elsa asked.
"I am not certain, but...I can sense a great malevolence behind them, as well as magic eerily similar to your own in nature. However...there is something different about this kind of magic. It is a mix of both natural and unnatural forces." Grandpabbie said.
"What do you mean?" Elsa asked.
"Again, I am not certain, but I do know this was not an accident. Someone, or something is doing this, with purpose." Grandpabbie said.
"Who?" Kristoff asked.
"And why?" Anna asked.
"I do not know the mastermind behind it, but I do know that a great many people are being effected by it...some of whom also possess magic of different natures." Grandpabbie said.
"There are other people with magic, besides me...?" Elsa trailed off.
"Countless people have possessed magic before even my birth Elsa. Your magic is unique, but you are not alone by any means." Grandpabbie said.
"Well, who are they?" Anna asked.
"I know of at least three, all of whom are further north, far beyond the Enchanted Forest." Grandpabbie said.
"Are they peaceful?" Anna asked, then Grandpabbie conjured more magic in his hands and changed the image overhead to one of the silhouette of man in armor, a cloak, and with shoulder-length hair.
"One of them is, I do not know much about him aside from his power being that he is capable of shaping the very ground he stands on." Grandpabbie said.
"So...he uses earth magic?" Elsa asked, and Grandpabbie changed the image yet again to one of a man and a woman.
"Precisely, however...these two figures possess power over fire, and neither of them are benevolent in nature. However, the man you see is simply misled, rather than truly evil." Grandpabbie said.
"Misled?" Elsa asked.
"Yes...the woman is far from benevolent, but the man possesses a geniune heart, despite using his powers for evil purposes. I do not know the details of his corruption however." Grandpabbie said seriously.
"So there's a battle between one magic user, with control over earth, and two magic users who can set things on fire...and that's causing the storms?" Kristoff asked.
"No, there is far more to this than I can sense myself." Grandpabbie said.
"Then we'll have to look into it ourselves." Anna said.
"You must be careful Your Majesty. Whatever the purpose this phenomenon may have, whomever is responsible for it may not take kindly to you meddling in their affairs." Grandpabbie said seriously.
"I'm not afraid." Anna said.
"Anna..." Elsa trailed off.
"You're not talking me out of this. I went after you after you revealed your powers to the whole kingdom, I was with you when we freed the Enchanted Forest, and I was with you every moment between then and now. This will not be different." Anna said seriously.
"Actually, I wasn't going to try and talk you out of it. I was going to say you're going to need something to help you." Elsa said.
"Oh...such as?" Anna asked.
"I can help you Your Majesty." Grandpabbie said.
"How exactly?" Anna asked.
"You and Kristoff, come here." He said and the pair walked toward Grandpabbie and knelt. When they did, Grandpabbie conjured magic in his hands, for far longer as well, and then poked both Anna and Kristoff in the collarbones as they were surrounded by sparks of energy that quickly enveloped them, and vanished into their bodies as they watched.
"What did you do?" Anna asked.
"I have recently mastered a charm that will make you resistant to magic. Should those two try to end you with their fire magic, it will merely strike you rather than burn." Grandpabbie said.
"O.k...that should come in handy." Kristoff said.
"For what it's worth, I sincerely wish I had mastered this charm decades ago. If I had...maybe your histories would be more pleasant." Grandpabbie said, and Elsa sighed.
"Well...what's done is done..." She breathed out.
"Now go, time is running out and that man who wields power over the earth is the only one who is likely to know the truth about this." Grandpabbie said.
"We'll do what we can, thank you for your help." Anna said as the group turned to leave.
And that's a wrap, and quite a way to kick things off from where I'm standing. I know it was a pretty peaceful chapter, but that's only one side of this coin. Don't get me wrong I have no intention of making things go too far in one direction, only to go in the opposite direction without transition, although...Frozen is a pretty dark story if you think about it, so whatever.
Anyway, I'll bet you didn't expect Anna and Kristoff to get a blessing like that did you? Well, there's plenty more on it's way, and please, if any of you have something else you'd like me to do with this story, or have an idea for how I can improve it, shoot it to me in the review section, or just let me know what you think. I'll listen to feedback any day of the year, and I actively encourage you to give it to me. Although if you just get spiteful, I'm not going to listen to you because...why would I? Also, please let me know you approve of my work with a favorite, follow me so you can keep up, maybe share the glory with others, you name it. I do care about the impact my work leaves, not just for the glory, but also because I believe in the principle of a good story.
Also...there's something personal I want to clarify: for those of you who don't know me, my favorite fictional concept without contest is the Lantern Corps from DC comics; each color represents a different emotion (Red is Wrath, Orange is Greed, Yellow is Fear, Green is Willpower, Blue is Hope, Indigo is Compassion, and Violet is Love, Black is Death, and White is Life/all seven main Lantern Corps colors in one package) and I saw one story were Elsa and Anna join the Green Lanterns, now...I'm not going to say neither of them are qualified, especially not Anna, but I think Anna should be Blue, and Elsa should be Violet.
I mean "For the First Time in Forever" has "I'm a hopeful person" written all over it, plus Anna inspires hope in quite a few people to say the least, so she meets both requirements perfectly. Elsa...come on, she implied with her own mouth that love lets her control her powers, plus she stayed away from Anna because she didn't want to risk hurting her. 9999% stupid as that whole situation was, you don't act like that unless you care. Some people said Elsa should be a Yellow Lantern because of her fears, and...that baffles me. Yellow Lanterns draw power from other people's fears, and Elsa wants nothing to do with her own fears, let alone the idea of inspiring fear in others...so that's an open and shut case.
Alright, lecture's over, and I do apologize for it, but that's been irking me for ages. Thanks for reading, and I hope you're ready for more, so let me know you like the story with a favorite, follow it to stay informed, and maybe comment so I know your thoughts/get new input to use in the future, which I officially encourage. All that said, I'll be with you with the rest in due time, stay tuned.
