I am so incredibly sorry that this has taken me so long to update. Shit has hit the fan in my life recently but I am back! Please let me know what you think of this chapter!
I woke with a start.
"What…" I began to look around the room, it was still dark and Tundra was curled up by my feet "Adam?" I called out. The door opened almost immediately.
"Everything ok?" He asked, concerned etched across his face.
"What time is it?"
"It's 2pm" He informed sitting on the end of the bed "You seem to have made a friend" he chuckled scratching Tundra's chin "I thought we were friends dude" he laughed pressing his nose to the dogs.
"Katrina is going to lose her mind" I sighed pulling myself up.
"It's too late to take you back now" Adam pointed out "I'll take you back after breakfast if you like?" He suggested "I know it's late but you should message them and let them know your safe…I don't want kat thinking I've killed and buried you in the woods" he joked still scratching Tundra's chin.
"I don't have a phone…I left it in London" I admitted tucking my knees under my chin "I left in such a hurry I didn't pick it up" I sighed "I haven't got around to buying another"
"Well I'm sure she won't really think I've killed you" He laughed pulling a face that said he wasn't fully convinced.
"I'll just go back now" I said getting out of the bed "I'll sneak in and tell her in the morning that I just lost track of time" I suggested.
"What if you get caught?" He questioned.
"Well she already treats me like I child. She'll probably ground me or something" I rolled my eyes.
"Ok" He chuckled as we made our way to the car "I've snuck out of a house before, but I've never helped anyone sneak in" He laughed as we took the short drive to my aunt and uncles house.
"Stop at the end of the dirt track…the dogs will lose their minds if they hear a car coming up the road" I told him.
"Can I at least walk you to the door?" He asked "I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with you walking up there by yourself in the dark"
"Ok, but you best be quiet Adam because I'm toast if we get caught" I told him as we both exited the truck and began walking towards the house.
"I've enjoyed today" Adam said.
"Me to" I replied as I slowly put my key in the door and silently creaked it open.
"Do you want to come in so I can give these clothes back to you?" I whispered "If Katrina sees these, she will hit the roof" I continued. Adam nodded and followed me into the house closing the door silently behind us as we began to tiptoe through the entryway and towards the stairs.
"Jay Jay?" I heard my uncles voice come from the top of the stairs. I quickly pushed Adam into the coat closet and turned to face the direction of Johns voice.
"Hi…Sorry I fell asleep at Adam's house he's just dropped me off" I apologised.
"Katrina only wants to look after you you know…she wants to help"
"Uncle John I think I'm just going to go to bed…I'm tired" I fake yawned stretching my arms out.
"Ok" He nodded "You should probably get Adam out of the coat closet though…don't want your aunt having a fit when she finds him" He chuckled. The closet door slowly opend and Adam peered out.
"Hi John. I apologise for this…I just wanted to make sure she got home safe" He began to explain.
"This is none of my business Adam…thank you for getting her home safe" With that he turned and went back to bed. I gestured for Adam to continue following me in silence.
"I'll quickly get changed" I told him "Then you can go" I grabbed some pyjamas from the drawer and got changed in the en-suite. I returned quickly and found Adam sat on the bed.
"I think I heard someone" He whispered to me.
"Wait here" I told him as I went out into the hallway to investigate "Hi John can't sleep?" I asked coming face to face with my uncle.
"Unfortunately not" He groaned rubbing his face "I think I will go and read a book in the living room" He suggested "Night Jay Jay"
"Goodnight" I said as I turned back into my bedroom "Shit" I whispered "He can't sleep and is going downstairs to read a book" I groaned sitting next Adam on the bed "You'll have to sneak out" I told him.
"Jayme, I don't think that's a good idea" Adam argued.
"We will have to wait here then" I suggested "Christ, I feel like I'm bloody 15 years old" I added with a nervous laugh. I yawned bringing my legs up underneath my chin.
"Go to sleep if you like…I'll leave when I hear him go" Adam said as he shifted back so he was sitting with his back against the wall.
"Tonight. At yours…was the first time I slept in a long time" I admitted as I did the same.
"You were crying you know" He told me closing his eyes "You kept calling out for Gavin" I bowed my head looking at my hands "You were so upset, so I sat outside the door in case you woke up and needed anything" I sat staring at Adam in the darkness my mouth open in shock.
"Oh my god Adam" I gasped tears pricking at my eyes "You didn't have to do that" I told him taking his hand in mine "You've been so brilliant to me" I placed my other hand on his forearm and squeezed in thanks. Adam turned to face me taking my hands in his as he did so making sure to make eye contact.
"Jayme, I feel so protective of you and I don't know why…I barely know you" He admitted. I nodded not knowing what to say to his declaration I wrapped my arms tightly around him, my head in the crook of his neck. He placed his arms around me in return and began gently stroking the bottom of my back under my shirt. I took in a deep breath taking in his scent feeling completely contented in that moment. "Lay down and try to sleep" He said into my hair. I did as I was told and Adam position himself behind me laying an arm around me. I slowly drifted to sleep.
"Morning" Adam smiled a draw droppingly gorgeous smile. I sat bolt upright.
"Fuck!" I snapped.
"Yeah we fell asleep waiting for John to go to back to bed" Adam said rubbing his stubble. I looked over to the window "Oh hell no I'm not climbing out of the window" he snapped shaking his head.
"Give me another suggestion?" I snapped at him panicking more and more by the second. I had to find a way to get him out without either Katrina or John seeing him. The door suddenly swung open and we both jumped, Adam jumped out of the bed as quickly as possible.
"Jayme, Katrina is about to come and wake you. He needs to be out of here very soon" John said matter-of-factly as he pointed over to Adam who was now stood next to the bed
"John this isn't…" Adam began but John raise a hand to silence him
"None of my business" He shook his head dismissing anything Adam had to say "I'll distract her in the kitchen if you get him out the front door"
"Wait John how did you know?" I asked in complete shock.
"I'm not stupid Jay Jay…I never heard him leave and his truck is at the end of the road"
"Thank you" I smiled awkwardly as I jumped out of bed. We stood at the top of the stairs waiting to hear my uncle begin talking to my aunt in the kitchen. We heard the low mumble of conversation from the kitchen and made a mad dash for the front door. "I'll see you soon" I smiled putting one arm around him holding him tight for a second.
"Yeah I'll see ya" He replied wrapping one arm around my waist before turning and jogging down the dirt track to his car. I clicked the door shut and walked into the kitchen rubbing my eyes.
"Good morning" John smiled as I entered "Sleep well?" He asked with a smirk, I threw him a glare across the room.
"Just fine" I said grabbing a glass of orange juice and pouring myself a bowl of cereal.
"You didn't cry last night" Katrina pointed out.
"No?" I asked absent mindedly taking a mouthful of my breakfast.
"It means you're getting better" She pointed out "Did you have nice time at Adams? What time did you get home?" She asked. I shot at a look at John in the hopes that he would help me out of the situation.
"She got home not long after you went to bed dear" He smiled kissing her cheek.
"Oh…it's just that I was waiting up for you" She told me "I wanted to apologise for the things I said"
"I don't want to talk about it" I told her finishing my breakfast "It's done now" I assured her "I just want to concentrate on moving on from everything that has happened over the past few weeks" This was the first day of my life after Gavin I was feeling positive for the very first time.
