Chapter 2: The Cave of the dragon riders
The group had found Zak's dragon disc next to a cave in a very strange part of the woods in dragon land
The adults had warned children not to go into the woods and by the way things where going for them they wished they had remembered the warnings
"Who's going to go get it?" asked Ord cowering
"I'm not!" said Zak
"I'll get it" said Emmy
Emmy went up to disc slowly
"Careful Emmy" said Cassie cowering with the others a safe distance away from the cave
No one felt good about this
The woods where very dark and for some reason everyone was feeling something odd around them it felt like someone was there watching them just waiting for the right moment to strike
Even Emmy who didn't scare easily had broken into a slightly cold sweat
She crept up to the disc slowly just waiting for something to come out from the shadows of the cave and strike
She crept forward getting even closer to the disc
It was now only inches from her grasp
She bent down slowly and grabbed the disc
"ACHOOO!"
The sneeze startled Emmy bad enough to make her drop the disc
The disc fell from her hand and rolled to a stop just a few inches INSIDE the cave
Everyone then looked at the direction the sneeze had come from….. Ord
"Woops, sorry I tried to hold it" said Ord
Everyone then looked at the disc or at least what they could see of it from a distance
Just leave it Emmy!" said Zak in a pleading voice clearly showing how much he wanted to get out of their now even without his new disc
Everyone agreed with him
They were so scared they had all broken out into a cold sweat and were now shaking with fear
"No I can get it" said Emmy determined to get the disc back
She started moving toward the cave
"Come on Emmy lets leave we can do something else today" said Max pleading with his sister thinking he could end up an only child
"Hold on" said Emmy still making her way to the cave
She wasn't about to give up yet
She never gave usually and she wasn't about to start now
She was now directly in the mouth of the cave the dragon disc at her foot
She could look inside the cave
It was dark but she could she that the floor was like a slide going straight down almost like a kuker hole
Except it was a lot scarier
It was a giant, nearly 90 degree angle, slide that lead into a dark abyss
She was right on the edge
One false move and she, or the disc would fall to where even she would not go
She bent down to pick up the disc again
BANG
Everyone screamed
Cassie, Zak, Wheezie, and Ord dove to the ground
Ord was covering Max and Enrique to protect them
Emmy jumped in fright
She lost her footing and fell into the cave where she started sliding down into the darkness
The last thing she remembered before she blacked out was sliding down on her back deep into the darkness and whatever was waiting there and hearing Cassie and Max call out "EMMY!"
When the dragons finally got up a minute later they all ran to the edge of the cave to see if Emmy was there
They all looked down into the darkness and saw no Emmy
They all looked at each other thinking the same horrible thought
What it was I will not say
Max was the first to speak saying something no one else wanted to hear
"We've got to go down there" he said
Everyone gasped
"No way!" said Zak
"We could be killed!" said Wheezie
"It's too dangerous" said Ord
"But we have to do something!" said Enrique
"How about we go get Quetzal" suggested Cassie
"Yeah he'll know what to do" said Zak
"We can't wait" said Max forcefully with tears starting to build in his eyes
"She could be hurt and we don't know where exactly this cave is it could take us along time to find Quetzal find this place again and find Emmy" Max continued
"He's right we have to go now" said Enrique.
The dragons looked at each other
"Alright I'll do it …. for Emmy" said Ord
"Count me in" said Wheezie
"Fine, but we're going to be doomed too" said Zak (Ever notice how positive he is?)
"Alright let's go" said Cassie turning toward the cave
All of them looked down and into the cave looked at each other gulped then jumped.
In the Cave
All of them side down deeper into the cave on the rock slide
It was not how most cave slides where in dragon land
Normal cave slides where fun and with lots of curves and didn't go straight down
This one was very straight and was at almost a 90 degree angle so they where moving VERY fast
All of them where screaming on the way down Zak being the loudest of them all
They traveled for what seemed to be like minutes when it was only about half a minute
The walls where zooming by and the dark made it impossible to tell exactly how fast they where going
Max was beginning to think 'Could Emmy survive this? Are we going to survive it?'
Cassie was wondering what would break their fall
Ord was hoping Max would be alright
Enrique hoped that the slide wasn't going to end in a bottomless pit
Whezzie thought this would be fun if it wasn't so dark
Zak thought 'WE'RE GONA DIEEEEE! WE'RE GONA DIEEEEEEEEEEE!' (Ahhh mister optimism well I suppose it's better then him screaming it)
Cave Floor
At last the slide emptied out into a flat floored cave
But due to the speed they had built up they slide for another 10 or 20 feet before they stopped
All of them where very dizzy from the slide and lay on the ground trying to get the world to stop spinning
Whezzie and Zak got up first…well Whezzie got up
Zak was still very dizzy
"Whoa what a trip" said Whezzie her head still spinning a bit
"I think I lost my lunch" said Ord who then rummaged around in his pouch and pulled out a sandwich
"Nope still there" he said before eating it in one bite
"Unreal" said Max staggering to his feet
"What a ride" said Enrique also getting to his feet
Cassie just groaned
Ord then helped her to her feet and kept her balanced
"Where's Emmy?" asked Enrique
Everyone looked around and didn't see her
"She might have slid further than us when she got off the slide" said Cassie still hanging on to Ord for balance, the room was still spinning to her
They all began to walk down the cave which was very dark and a little cold they walked calling out Emmys name.
With Emmy
After the fall the next thing Emmy knew was waking up on the cold rock floor of the cave
She slowly got to her feet
"Ow" she moaned as she put a hand on her head
"Must have hit my head on a rock on the way down" she said
Her head hurt but not badly she would be fine after a little while
She looked around
"Where am I?"
She was in a dark narrow cave
There where those big rocks that looked like icicles all over the place
The floor was made of rock and it was unusually smooth and even like it was a path
'But to what?' she wondered
She looked in both directions
The way she came was pitch black
The other way had a small light at the end of it
She knew she couldn't get back since it was too steep to climb up that rock slide and Cassie wasn't here to fly her out so after about two minutes of thinking she decide to go toward the light
She was about to start going toward the light when she heard something from behind her
It was faint but growing stronger
She couldn't make it out but as it got stronger she could understand what the sound was
"Emmy where are you?" someone called
It was her friends looking for her
She was amazed they had followed her but she was mostly happy to hear her friends' voices
"I'm down here guys" she called down the dark tunnel
With the Rest of the Group
"Did you hear that" said Cassie
All of them listened for it again
It was faint but they could understand it
"I'm down here!"
"That's Emmy" said Enrique
"I knew she was ok" said Max
"Come on lets hurry!" said Ord
They all started running toward the sound of her voice as fast as they could go
"We're coming Emmy!" Max yelled out into the darkness
They all noticed the tunnel was getting brighter as they moved along which made all of them feel better
"Look!" Zak suddenly yelled
They all could see her now in the dim light
Emmy looked a little dirty and had a few scratches but she was fine,
Cassie ran forward in front of everyone and yelled "EMMY!"
As she ran top speed toward her friend
Unfortunately all the yelling they had been doing was enough to shake lose an icicle like rock from the ceiling
And even more unfortunately the rock was heading straight for Cassie!
Emmy saw the rock but Cassie didn't
She was about to run right into its path
Emmys body seemed to move without her even thinking about it
She dashed forward as fast as she could go at the still running Cassie and jumped and tackled her out of the rock's path.
Emmy and Cassie both got up and looked at the rock then each other
"Y…Yo…You saved me!" said Cassie taking a few seconds to recover from the shock
"My body sort of just moved I didn't get a chance to think every thing happened so fast" said Emmy amazed by what she had just done
'What was that? I don't know what came over me' thought Emmy feeling her had tingle oddly again
Cassie then gave Emmy a hug one that could rival Ord's
"I'm so glad your alright we thought something horrible happened to you" said Cassie with tears in her eyes
"I'm fine Cassie don't worry" said Emmy
The rest of the group had by this time caught up to Cassie and where now talking about how Emmy had saved her
"Nice one Emmy" said Enrique
"Wow you where really brave" said Ord
"Just like Mondo Mouse" said Max
"That was scary" said Zak
"Thanks so much Emmy" said Cassie
"No problem" said Emmy
"You would have done the same for me" Emmy continued
Cassie put on a smile but was really had doubt in her heart whether she would be brave enough to do something like that even for Emmy.
"Ok we found Emmy now what?" said Zak pointing out their current situation
"There's a light up there" Emmy said while pointing at the light
"Maybe it leads to the surface" she guessed
"I don't care where it leads as long as we get out of the dark" said Ord
"I'm with him at least it can't be too bad if it's bright" said Enrique
They all started heading down the path toward the light
It got brighter as they went and had a green tint to it
Hall of the Dragon Riders
They finally reached the end of the tunnel and found where the light was coming from
What they saw made all of them gasp
It was a huge chamber of some kind
It had tons of pictures on the walls of dragons and humans together except the dragons looked different
They looked like the ones that where seen in pictures in the human world not like the ones in dragon land
In the pictures the humans where riding around on the back of the dragons and all the humans seemed to have swords even the children
In the center of the room was a sign and a HUGE statue of a dragon like the one in the pictures
He had a man with a sword and cloak riding on his neck just behind the head
The statue was on pedestal with something written on it
The pictures on the walls seemed to be emitting a green glow and everyone could tell there was something magical about them
"What is this place?" asked Enrique staring in awe at the massive dragon statue
"I don't know" said Cassie
They all walked forward toward the sign it said
"HERE IS THE CAVE OF THE DRAGON RIDERS"
"Dragon Riders? What are dragon riders?" asked Enrique
Emmy and Max didn't know
The dragons didn't either
They all went up to the statue which towered above them
"Wow its huge!" said Max
"What's wrong with the dragon?" asked Cassie
The dragons had never seen a human world style dragon and found it very scary
"That's what dragons look like in the human world, we don't know what you look like so all the pictures are wrong in my world" said Emmy
Cassie looked at it in shock
It scared all of the dragons with it fierce teeth, it's long claws, it's scaly wings, and the fact that looked very dangerous
"No wonder they were all afraid of us when they first met us" said Ord remembering how Max and Emmy were afraid when they first met and how Enrique had actually run away screaming
"Yeah if I looked like that I'd be scared too" said Zak
"The first time I met you I thought that you were going to set me on fire or eat me" said Enrique
"No wonder you ran away screaming" said Zak
"What's it doing here?" asked Enrique
They had no idea how a human version of a dragon ended up in dragon land, let alone in the bottom of a huge cave deep in some strange woods
"Hey look" said Max pointing at the dragon's pedestal,
It had words on it but they where written funny like the ones on the sign
"I think I can read it" said Cassie squinting to make out the odd words
"I call upon the power of the dragon rider to protect the weak and help the innocent." she recited
Just as Cassie finished saying the words a strange thing happed
The statue started to glow a bright rainbow color
They had to put their hands in front of their face the block out the blinding light
The light then shot at all of them
It hit the dragons in their dragon badges which then started to glow rainbow colors
It hit the humans right in their heart
All any of them could do was stare
They couldn't move their bodies
Then all of a sudden the color changed for each person
Emmy and Cassie's beam turned pink
Max and Ord's turned blue
And Zak, Whezzie, and Enrique's turned green and purple
Then as suddenly as it started the beam went away and all the humans and dragons collapsed to the cave floor
Unknown
Emmy had a strange dream
She dreamt that she was in a strange place
She was on a tower of some kind
The floor was a beautiful glass picture of a pink dragon in front of a heart with wings on the side
Emmy couldn't see anything else since it was all pitch black
Suddenly she heard a voice
'Hello dragon rider' it said
"Who's there?" asked Emmy
"Where am I?" she asked looking into the endless darkness
'The time has come for the dragon riders to return, you and your friends are key to help them return'
"What? What's that mean? What's going on? Who are the dragon riders!" she asked demandingly
'So many questions so little time, you shall learn all you need to know when the time comes'
"What? Please make sense" asked Emmy getting tired of talking into darkness
'You shall learn the truth about what humans have done, the question is will you be able to handle knowing the truth about your own kind?'
"What? What about humans?" asked Emmy puzzled
'Long ago humans did something foolish that caused Dragon Land to be needed'
"What did they do?" asked Emmy sounding worried
'You shall learn when it is time and you have discovered the power of a dragon's heart'
"A dragon's heart?" asked Emmy puzzled
'Yes but be careful the enemies of dragons are not all gone in the human world'
"Who would want to hurt the dragons?" asked Emmy
'You still have much to learn'
"I would be easier if you tell me" said Emmy
Suddenly all Emmy could see was a bright blinding light
She could hear the voice talking
'Your time has come, you and your friends shall face impossible odds and hopeless fights, but do not be scared so long as you and your friends stick together you shall survive since you wield the ultimate weapon, The Dragon Heart'
That's all Emmy could remember
