Dragon Riders

Chapter 5: Decisions
Max looked at his picture of Ord and came up with an idea
"That's how we can save her" he said holding up his picture with a determined look in his eyes
"What do you mean?" asked Enrique coming over and looking at the picture as well
"How do we save Emmy? With the dragons? But how? They can't come to the human world" said Enrique confused by what Max could be planning
Max just got up and said with his back turned to Enrique "There is a way they can come here"
Enrique thought for a second then figured it out "Wait you can't mean ….."
"Yes I can" interrupted Max
"It's too dangerous and Quetzal told us we couldn't since no human or dragon has done it for a long time" said Enrique shocked Max would consider breaking Quetzal's rules
Max turned around to face Enrique and said forcefully "But it might be the only way to save her!"
Enrique knew this was true but he did not want to do something this dangerous
"We can't, we should just leave it to the cops" he said defensively
"You heard what the cops said" tears appeared on Max's face "They can't get to her in time, we got to save her and with the power of the dragon riders we can"
Enrique was about to argue with Max some more but then he remembered what the cops had said and thought about how scared Emmy must be right now
'She's in trouble and the cops can't help so I guess that means...' he then took a deep breath and said "So I guess that means we have to help her"
"What?" asked Max wondering why Enrique was talking to himself
"We have to help her" he said quietly looking at the ground
"Even if it's dangerous we have to help her" Enrique said in a more determined tone looking up at Max.
"Ok let's go" said Max going to get the dragon scale
"Just one problem" Enrique said as Max got the scale out
"How do we get the dragons to help us? They probably will be too scared to help us" Enrique said in a worried tone
"Don't worry" said Max confidently
"They'll help us if it means saving Emmy from those bad guys" Max said holding up the glowing green dragon scale
"You sure?" asked Enrique worried
"We'll worry about it when we get to Dragon Land" said Max holding out the dragon scale
Enrique just nodded and took hold of the dragon scale
"I wish I wish with all my heart to fly with dragons in a land apart" they both chanted holding onto the scale
All the dragons on the playroom walls came alive and began to fly around Max and Enrique going faster and faster until both children disappeared in a bright flash of green light
Dragon Land
It was a bright sunny day in Dragon Land
Ord, Cassie, Zak, and Wheezie were playing dragon disk (Yes the same one) in a field near the school in the sky
All three were having a good time playing except Cassie who for some reason felt weird and was afraid for some reason even though there was no reason for her to feel that way
'What's this feeling? I feels like something bad is about to happen and I'm worried about Emmy for some reason, why won't it go away' thought Cassie as she half heartedly caught the dragon disc with a depressed look on her face
Ord noticed this
"Cassie what's wrong?" he asked noticing Cassie looked a little sad for some reason
Cassie looked up at Ord
"I don't know" she said in a depressed tone
"I just feel like something bad is happening and I feel really sad for some reason, I've felt like this almost all day" she said in an even sadder tone ending with a sigh
"You mean you're feeling sad for no reason? That's silly" said Wheezie as she and Zak came over to check on Cassie and Ord who had stopped playing
"I know how you feel" said Zak
"You do?" asked Cassie surprised
"Yes I feel like something bad is going to happen all the time but that's because I'm attached to Wheezie" Zak said pointing at Wheezie's head who now looked annoyed
"I'm sure everything is alright maybe you're sick or something" said Ord trying to comfort her
"I guess" said Cassie unenthusiastically ending with another sigh
"Besides Max, Emmy, and Enrique are coming soon to play with us" said Ord in a comforting tone trying to cheer Cassie up
"You're right" said Cassie in a fake happy tone with a fake smile on her face, she still couldn't get the feeling that something bad was about to happen out of her
All of a sudden a bright light appeared that only meant one thing
"They're here!" shouted Ord happily
Cassie looked and saw that only Max and Enrique appeared and both looked sad and worried
She could see that Max had been crying
It was then that her fears had come true she knew something bad had happened
She didn't see Emmy with them
Max and Enrique ran over to the dragons at top speed Max actually getting there first for once
"Max, Enrique you're he….." Ord stopped mid sentence noticing the looks on their faces
Zak and Wheezie noticed their looks also
"What's wrong?" asked Zak concerned
"Why do you look so sad?" asked Wheezie also concerned
Both just stood there not knowing where to begin
Cassie came forward up to Max and Enrique
"Where's Emmy?" she asked looking very scared
They both looked like they didn't want to tell her about what had happened but they knew they had to
"Emmy's in trouble, big trouble" said Max
"You mean she got punished by your parents and can't come" asked Ord looking disappointed
"No" said Enrique weakly
"She went with our mom to the bank this morning" explained Max holding back his tears
"When she was there some criminals decided to rob the bank" he said causing all the dragons to gasp
"Criminals! What are they? Are they like a bully?" asked Ord in a fearful tone
"Worse!" exclaimed Enrique
The dragons gasped again
"What could be worse that a bully?" asked Zak
"They steal and hurt people" explained Enrique
"That sound's just like a bully" said Wheezie amazed they were so afraid of some bullies who would just pick on Emmy
"They're like grown up bullies and they don't just hurt people they…..they…..kill people too!" said Enrique causing all the dragons to gasp again and become very afraid
"They….they….they kill?" asked Ord afraid to even say the word kill
"Yes and one of they captured Emmy and will kill her if the cops try and come in the bank to save her" Max said in a desperate and angry tone
"SOME ONE'S GOT TO SAVE HER!" said Cassie franticly
"Yeah shouldn't those police people save her?" asked Wheezie
Max just shook his head
"Can't they just talk it out?" asked Zak
"No they lead criminal who has Emmy won't talk to police and if they try to break into the place the man will kill her before they can get to her" Max said sadly.
Cassie kneeled on the ground and began to cry
"Isn't there someway to save her!" she said through her tears
Enrique looked at Max for a second signaling him to tell the dragons his plan
"I've got an idea" Max said
Cassie looked up at him hoping he knew how to save Emmy
"What is it?" asked Ord surprised
Max hesitated for a moment before saying his plan
"We use the power of the dragon riders" said Max
All three dragons just looked at him for a moment in shock
"WHAT?" asked Zak thinking the idea was insane
"We become dragon riders, they have all shorts of super powers we can use to save the day and rescue Emmy" explained Max
"Are you crazy? Its way too dangerous we can't become dragon riders we could be killed!" yelled Zak
"But it could be the only way to save Emmy!" yelled Enrique
"It does sound dangerous" said Wheezie in an unfamiliar worried tone
"We need your help! We can't do it alone" said Max fiercely
"But Quetzal said we couldn't and It sounds really dangerous and scary" said Ord
"Come on it's the only way to stop Emmy from being killed" yelled Max
Cassie just knelt on the ground not saying a word but arguing with herself about what to do
'We can't do it its way too dangerous' she thought
'Why can't we?' asked a little voice in her head
'Well it could be dangerous' she thought
'That didn't stop Emmy at the cave' the voice replied
'Well she's brave and I'm not brave or strong, so I can't become a dragon rider' she thought
'You might not be strong but you're smart and you are brave' the voice said
'Really?' she thought
Just then she remembered what Emmy had said as they flew to the field near the forest that day with the cave
Flash Back
"What do you think Cassie?" asked Emmy
"Would you like to be a super hero, a real one?"
"I don't know" said Cassie
"I would like to help people as much as I could but it sounds really dangerous and I don't want to get hurt and I'm not that brave"
"I'm not very brave either" said Ord trying to comfort her
"Yeah but you're really strong and I'm not strong at all" said Cassie in a sad tone
"But Cassie you're really smart you've helped us a lot of time with your ideas remember the time with the dragon rhinoceros, you're really brave Cassie you just don't know it" said Emmy to Cassie which made her smile
"Really?" Cassie asked
"Definitely" said Emmy
'I am brave!' thought Cassie confidently
'Yes' the voice said
'And I'm going to help Emmy no matter what!' she thought with great confidence
End Flash back
"I'll help" said Cassie getting to her feet shocking everyone
Everyone just stared at her amazed at her bravery
"What? It's crazy, dangerous, and against the rules" said Zak franticly
"Yeah! We could be killed" said Ord
"I don't care" said Cassie tears in her eyes
"Emmy was always brave and did everything she could to help us even when it was dangerous just like with the cave" she wiped the tears from her eyes and her face became very serious
"Now I'm going to do the same for her" she said in an amazingly confident voice looking at Max and Enrique
Ord looked like he was thinking hard about something for a second then he turned to Max, Enrique, and Cassie
"If Cassie is willing to do it…." he said
"So am I!" he said bravely
Max looked up at Ord and then hugged him
"Thanks" he said while hugging Ord
"No problem little buddy" Ord said happily
"ARE YOU ALL INSANE?" Zak yelled
"If you go there you'll all be doomed!" he continued trying to stop his crazy friends from doing something this stupid and dangerous
"Well if they're all going to do this, so am I!" yelled Wheezie causing Zak's face to turn completely white with a look of absolute horror on his face
"WHAT?" he yelled at the top of his lungs his mind finally processing what Whezzie had said
"Come on Zak we have to!" Wheezie pleaded
"No we can't, we can't, we can't, We can't!" he said wishing this was all a bad nightmare
"Come on Zak Emmy risked her life for your dragon disc at the cave, you have to help her out" said Wheezie
"But, But, But……." Zak stammered
He looked and saw all he friends looking at him and he knew on the inside they were saying 'Please help'
Zak looked down at the ground and sighed, he knew he was outnumbered and was not going to talk his friends or Wheezie out of it, at last he gave in
"Alright I'll help too" he said depressed still staring at the ground
"But we're still doomed" he added with a sigh
Everyone cheered (Wow for some reason that doesn't sound right)
"All right let's DOOOO IT!" yelled Wheezie
"Wait a second, how do we do it again?" asked Wheezie
"Quetzal said we had to put our hands together and say that spell that was on that statue" said Cassie
"Which hand?" asked Ord looking at his hands
"I guess the one that was tingling after we went to the statue" said Cassie looking at her hands too
"Both mine tingled" said Enrique
"I think that's because you have Zak AND Wheezie" guessed Max
"Alright so we put our hands together…." said Ord putting his hand down low enough so that Max could reach his hand
"….. And say the spell" said Max as he put his hand to Ord's huge hand
"How did the spell go again?" asked Enrique
Everyone tried to remember the spell
"Oh! I remember" said Cassie
"It was "I call upon the power of the dragon riders to protect the weak and help the innocent" said Cassie
"Ok now lets put our hands together" said Enrique
Zak and Wheezie put their hands to Enrique's
"Ok here goes nothing" said Wheezie excitedly
"Easy for you to say!" said Zak
"Alright on three" said Max
They all counted down
"1…..2……3!"
Max, Ord, Enrique, Zak, and Wheezie all chanted in one voice
"I CALL UPON THE POWER OF THE DRAGON RIDERS TO HELP THE WEAK AND PROTECT THE INNOCENT"
As soon as they said the spell all of them, well except Cassie, began to glow
Max and Ord glowed Blue
Zak glowed green, Wheezie glowed purple, and Enrique glowed green on one side purple on the other
Cassie just watched in amazement as her friends looked like a rainbow missing most of its colors
The glowing affect then subsided everywhere except their hands that had tingled after the light from the statue hit them
Max and Ord could see the blue light then turn into the shape of a sun on their hands
On Enrique's hands the light took the form of the dragon badges Zak and Wheezie wore
The hand that was on Wheezie's side the purple light took the form of her dragon badge
The hand that was on Zak's side the green light took the form of his dragon badge
All of them looked on in amazement as the light finally stopped shining leaving white patches of skin or scales on their hands that where shaped like the light had been
"I think it's over" said Enrique after the light disappeared
"That wasn't too bad" said Zak amazed he didn't feel like he fell off a cliff
"So what happened?" asked Max noticing he felt normal, he was the same height, he didn't have huge muscles, and didn't feel powerful
He looked down and all he saw was that he had on a cape or something, then he saw it was not a cape it was a blue cloak with a hood on it
Enrique had on the same thing except his was half purple half green
"You look different" said Cassie as she came over looking at her friends who had changed
"What?" asked Max who then looked at the dragons
Ord looked the same at first glance then Max saw it
His scales had turned a deeper blue; his once feathery wings had been replaced by big scaly ones, his claws had gotten longer and sharper, and his belly had shrunk a lot as well
The same thing happened to Zak and Wheezie, their scales had turned deeper colors they now had big scaly wings, their claws got longer and sharper, and their belly had gotten a lot flatter
"Whoa" said Zak looking at himself
"LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEE IIIIITTTTTTTTT!" said Wheezie liking her new color
"Wow I look…." Ord couldn't find the words for it but Max did
"Cool!" he said seeing how awesome Ord looked
"Yeah" said Ord flapping his new wings a little
"Yeah but what about us?" asked Enrique noting their less than heroic look
"Maybe we have some powers or cool gadgets" suggested Max
"How do we use them?" asked Enrique
"Um…. Let me think" said Max thinking about what to do
Just then a word came to mind
'Dragon Sword'
Without thinking Max said it aloud
"Dragon Sword!" he yelled
Suddenly a bright blue light appeared on his back and took the form of a sheathed sword
Max reached behind him and grabbed the handle and took it out
It was HUGE!
It was a massive blue sword taller than Max and nearly as wide (For reference for anyone who has seen the buster sword from FF7 just think a blue version of that scaled down to Max's size)
It only had a blade on one side and its hilt had sapphire in it
Even though it was huge Max lifted it with ease somehow
"Whoa how did you do that?" asked Enrique
"Just say Dragon Sword and it'll appear
"Dragon Sword!" Enrique called out
Bright purple and green lights appeared on his back and took the form of two sheathed swords
Enrique took them out and looked at them
One was green and one was purple, both were a lot smaller than Max's sword, they were shorter than Max's and curved. Also both had hilts covered in ether green or purple jewels
"Wow neat!" said Enrique looking them over and swinging both of them a little
"Hey be careful! You could kill someone like that" said Zak
But it was too late Max had begun swinging his sword around carelessly and had accidentally hit Enrique with the huge sword
Enrique was hit with the bladed side of the sword and fell back onto the ground
"OH NO! Are you alright?" asked Max looking down at Enrique
"Are you cut?" asked Zak checking Enrique for any cuts
"No it felt like I got hit by a bat or something but I'm alright" Enrique said getting to his feet
"What?" asked Max looking at his sword
He then put the blade to his hand and ran the blade over his hand it felt like their was a barrier on the sword making it not sharp to his hand
"It feels like there's a barr….barr…barrier on the sword making it not sharp" said Max having problems with the big word
"They must have a spell on them to keep us from cutting anything that's alive so they won't kill but they still hurt" said Enrique picking up a stick throwing it in the air and slicing it to pieces with his two swords very quickly
"When did you learn to do that!" asked Cassie amazed how well they used the swords and wondering how they summoned them
"I don't know it just like I already know how to fight and use my powers" said Max
"I think we learn how to fight and use our powers automatically when we transformed" said Enrique
"So we don't have to learn how to use our powers? We already know how to?" asked Ord
"I guess" said Max
"Good thing to we don't have time to learn how to use our powers we have to save Emmy" said Wheezie
"Yeah now we have to go to the human world and save Emmy" said Ord
"How do we get there?" asked Zak
"Just think you already know how to do it" said Max
All of them thought for a second then suddenly they knew what to do
"Wow you're right! We do already know" said Zak amazed
"Ready guys?" asked Max
All of them nodded
They all lined up and began to say a spell
"I call upon the power of dragon and human to break the barrier that divides the worlds!" they all yelled at once
A huge swirling rainbow colored portal appeared a few feet in front of them
"That's the portal to the human world?" asked Cassie
"Yeah that's it I guess" said Max
"Let's go guys" said Enrique as he and Max mounted Ord, Zak, and Wheezie
"Ok me and Ord will go first" said Max
"I'll go second" said Cassie
"We'll go last" said Zak sounding tense
"Ready Ord?" asked Max looking down at Ord
"Yes" said Ord sounding a little nervous
They took off and flew towards the portal at full speed and went through it
Cassie gulped and let out a deep breath then flew through the portal as well
"Maybe we should stay here" said Zak in a last ditch attempt to avoid doing this but it was too late
Wheezie flew top speed straight through the portal
