AN: This is an alternate battle scene that would replace the last scene in the battle in chapter twenty-seven of 'A Different Way Forward'. One of my reviewers insist this would be the best way to way to deal with Voldemort.
Hogwarts Grounds, Forest Perimeter of the East Lawn, 5/2/1998, 00:30
Harry and Colonel Sharp of the British SAS lay prone on the flying carpet hovering thirty-some feet above the ground using the forest for cover on the perimeter of the east lawn.
Colonel sharp had agreed to help Harry with this task after Harry had approached Prime Minister Blair with an unusual request The British government was hesitant to comply at first but after a little assistance from Kingsley Shacklebolt who had worked for the Prime Minister up until the ministry fell last summer, Mr. Blair had finally agreed to help Harry in his task.
Harry had spent two weeks training at a military base on how to use the equipment effectively and tonight he would be putting that training to the test.
Ron Weasley had orders to cause a disturbance on the grounds at exactly twelve thirty-two and then Penelope Clearwater was to do the same at twelve thirty-three which would give Harry appropriately thirty seconds to take advantage of the dark lord exposing himself.
Harry currently had the crosshairs of a 24x56 mm long-range scope on the second-floor window of the founder's suite and was currently doping it out according to coronel Sharpe's instructions, he only had one shot at this.
Checking his watch and seeing it was now one minute until show time Harry lifted the huge ten-round box magazine and loaded it into the mag well of the M82A1 Barrett and pulled the charging handle back before he released it, the bolt slammed forward loading the 50 caliber API round into the chamber and Harry flicked the safety switch to the fire position.
Harry heard a loud explosion off in the distance and coronel Sharpe spoke up, winds three miles an hour from the Northwest approximate distance to target twelve hundred and fifty-two yards. Harry and made the corrections to dial in the 8.5X25 magnification scope, he was now completely dialed in.
BOOOM!
A much closer explosion sounded a couple of hundred yards away on the east lawn, Harry's heart rate went up as he saw movement inside the room and had to forcibly calm himself as he saw Voldemorts face illuminated by the fire in the room as he looked out the window in shock and rage at seeing his army being destroyed.
Time seemed to slow down as Harry held the Crosshairs on Tom's head just above his eyes targeting the fatal-T as his trainer had called it and
squeezed the trigger in the space between his own heartbeats.
Harry heard the deafening report of the rifle and felt the barrel move backward ejecting the spent casing and dispersing some of the recoil energy.
The recoil from the rifle still moved their platform backward ten feet through the air, Harry ignored the carpets movement and continued to watch through the scope for the second or so it took the 700 grain round traveling at 3,000 fps to reach its target.
Harry watched as Voldemort's head exploded into a spray of pink mist, the dark lord never even hearing the rifle fire, his blood splattered all over the window, there was no doubt in Harry's mind Voldemort was dead.
"Direct hit Potter, well done." Colonel Sharp said evenly.
"Thank you sir." Harry said feeling quite lightheaded from the adrenaline rush.
"I'm almost sorry I have to do this." The man said sadly.
"Do wh-
'BOOM!'
Colonel sharp had drawn his sidearm and shot the Potter boy through the back of the head while the boy was asking the question, his superiors had deemed the young wizard to be dangerous and Colonel Sharpe was given the order to kill the boy as soon as Hostile Number one was dealt with.
Flicking a switch on a device he just pulled from his pocket Colonel Sharpe threw it towards the east lawn, he remained on the hovering carpet as he waited for the British Air Force to commence bombing this location.
He didn't have to wait long as a roar like thunder was heard and jet after jet flew low over Hogwarts dropping their payload onto the lawns and castle wiping out every fighter on the battlefield, he watched on as flame engulfed everything in sight most of the fighters were dead before they even knew the bombs had fallen.
The wizards had caused enough problems and the British government thought it best if they were all eliminated, and since all of the big players would be at this isolated location tonight, it was agreed upon that the wizarding world would be eradicated tonight.
Sighing sadly Colonel Sharpe looked at the body of the boy lying dead on the flying carpet beside him and said.
" I'm sorry lad, but you did well."
The End
