Chapter 7: The Truth about the Dragon Riders
Emmy had slept in and had to be woken up by her mother, she had to get up and get ready to go to police headquarters
She went to headquarters and the police kept asking her questions about what had happened in the bank
Emmy simply told them that the Pink Dragon and Rider had come crashing down through the window in the back office knocking the man with the gun out. After that the Pink Dragon rider had told her to stay there and hide while they helped the other riders out so she hid in the back office until the SWAT members who finally came in found her hiding in the back.
Emmy didn't like lying but she knew that it was important that no one find out who they were, at this point they didn't even know if they could tell their own parents
While Emmy was at the police station she talked with some other people who were in the bank as well, including two guys who had gotten in trouble for talking to the press
This had caused the press to report that the Dragon Riders were superheroes
Now all the news could talk about was the Dragon Riders and the fact that they might be real life superheroes, the station was flooded with calls about the Dragon Riders. Also the press was allover the station looking for more people to interview; when they saw Emmy they swarmed around her and her family like vultures around a dead animal in the middle of the desert
Other witnesses said that they couldn't see the faces of the Dragon Riders no matter how hard they looked, this made Emmy feel a little more relaxed
Something she found as odd was that the people said the dragons talked in small roars and growls; Emmy couldn't understand this, she knew dragons talked like humans. She decided she would ask Quetzal about it when they met that day in Dragon Land
The prospect of the meeting made her nervous, what was Quetzal going to talk about? And were they in trouble?
This made Emmy very worried on the trip to and from the police station; her parents noticed but thought it was normal for someone who had nearly been killed, especially a child, to act odd and nervous for a while
Home
When Emmy arrived home her parents tried to comfort her because they thought she might be traumatized from yesterday
Emmy quickly reassured them she was fine and just wanted to relax up in the playroom
Emmy's mother said she could go and play in the playroom with Max and Enrique when he arrived and that she would call them when it was time for lunch
Emmy opened the door of the playroom and saw Max sitting in a chair with his head in his hands looking down at the wooden playroom floor
Emmy could tell he must be worried too so she decided to try and be strong so she could comfort him
"I'm home" said Emmy as she shut the door letting Max know she was there
"Hi" said Max weakly
"What's wrong?" asked Emmy concerned
"I'm worried about the meeting and about what's going to happen to us" said Max slouching a little
"Don't worry Max everything's going to be fine" said Emmy in a comforting tone
"Easy for you to say, you aren't the one who will be to blame if we get in trouble for being Dragon Riders. Anything bad happens to us because of this it will all be my fault that I made us become Dragon Riders" said Max even more depressed
"Max you did what you did to save me; if you and the others hadn't become the Dragon Riders I would be dead. You did what you had to and so did the others" said Emmy
"I guess" said Max weakly
"Don't worry Max no matter what happens now we can get through it if we stay together" said Emmy
"Really?" asked Max hopefully finally looking up form the ground at Emmy
"Definitely" said Emmy cheerily
Just then the playroom door opened and Enrique walked inside
"Hola" he said cheerily shutting the door
"Hola Enrique" said Emmy happily
"Hola" said Max weakly
"What's wrong with him?" Enrique asked Emmy
"He's worried we will all blame him for anything bad that happens to us because of us being Dragon Riders" said Emmy
"What?" asked Enrique in shock at the idea
"It'll be all my fault if we get into trouble for what we did; it's because of me that now we have to figure out what to do as Dragon Riders" said Max
"Don't worry Max no one blames you for this" said Enrique
"Yeah right" said Max sarcastically
"No really! We all made the decision to become dragon riders to save Emmy; we all knew the risks and each of us knew that we would all have to except the consequences for what we did" said Enrique putting his hand on Max's shoulder
"Really?" asked Max looking up again
"Yes! and besides if this is anyone's fault it's mine" said Emmy
"What do you mean?" asked Max
"I was the reason we fell down the cave in the first place and you all transformed to save Me" said Emmy
"It's not like you asked to fall down a huge hole and nearly die or to be kidnapped" said Max
"See Max? It's no one's fault; no one caused this whole thing on purpose" said Enrique which lifted Max's spirits a lot
"Yeah you're right" said Max
Emmy and Enrique just smiled and nodded
"Guys I think we should be heading off to Dragon Land; the dragons will be waiting for us" said Enrique
"Yeah" said Emmy
"Do you think the dragons will be mad at me?" asked Max
"Of course not! They won't blame you ether" said Emmy
"Ok then lets go" said Max
All three children got out the magic dragon scale and used it to warp off to Dragon Land in a flash of light
Dragon Land
All three children appeared in Dragon Land in a meadow near The School in the Sky
They turned around to see their dragon friends all sitting down looking very worried
"Hola" said Emmy to their friends
"Oh hi Emmy" said Cassie half heartedly
"Hi guys" said Wheezie weakly
"Hi" said Ord very unemotionally not even giving them his dragon hug
"What's going on? Why are you all so sad?" asked Enrique
"We're worried about what our parents will say about us being dragon riders" said Cassie
"Yeah when we got home last night after Quetzal told our parents about what we did they all looked really sad and worried" said Ord
"My Mom nearly cried when she heard about what I did and they spent all morning making sure I was not hurt" said Cassie
"Our Mom nearly fainted" said Wheezie
"What about yours?" asked Zak
"We don't know if we should tell them yet; we decided to ask Quetzal about it first" said Emmy
"Don't worry guys we'll get through it" said Enrique
"Yeah all we have to do is stick together and explain we did it to save a friend" said Max putting his hand on Ord's arm
Ord just looked down at Max and smiled
"You're right little buddy" said Ord happily before giving Max a dragon hug
Quetzal walked up to the group
"Hola ninos, it is time follow me to The School in the Sky your parents are already there" he said gently
They all began to walk to The School in the Sky
"Um… Quetzal?" asked Emmy nervously as they walked
"What is it Emmy?" asked Quetzal
"Well you see….. I was wondering just what happened to the last Dragon Riders" asked Emmy
Quetzal looked sad for a second before he answered her question
"I wanted for you to get older before you found out but it appears as though fate would not allow that to happen. You and the others shall find out after the meeting" he said seriously as they walked
"What is the meeting about?" asked Enrique
"It is so that I can explain a few things about the Dragon Riders to you and Cassie, Ord, Zak, and Wheeize's parents" explained Quetzal
"Things like what?" asked Max
"You shall find out soon" said Quetzal
The School in the Sky
When Quetzal opened the door to The School in the Sky Emmy could see everyone who had shown up
Ord's huge parents who looked as thought they were a little cramped even sitting down were inside along with Zak and Wheezie's and Cassie's parents
The children and dragons sat down at a table near the center of the room while Quetzal stood near the back and got everyone's attention
"Hello I'm sure you all know why we are here today; it is because your children have done something no dragon has done in a very long time. They have made a pact with a human and become a Dragon Rider Dragon" said Quetzal
All the adults gasped
"The Dragon Riders! I thought they were a myth" said Zak's father
"Are our children alright?" asked Cassie's mother with the worry only a mother could have
"They are fine but they will be changed greatly because of the power of the Dragon Riders" said Quetzal
Everyone gasped again
"Changed?" asked Cassie's mother in shock
"What is this power and what will it do to our children!" asked Ord's mother
"The power of the Dragon Riders is a special power that lies dormant in every dragon it takes a special key to unlock this power" explained Quetzal to the frantic parents
"What kind of key?" asked Cassie's father
"A human hey" said Quetzal
Suddenly everyone turned and looked at the children
"Emmy, Max, and Enrique have unlocked this power in Cassie, Ord, and Zak and Wheezie" said Quetzal
"Just what have they become?" asked Ord's father
"A Dragon Rider Dragon is a dragon who has made a pact with a human partner. A Dragon Rider Dragon is far more powerful than any normal dragon can hope to be; they have special powers and abilities that are extremely powerful. They also look quite different from a regular dragon; they have powerful scaly wings that are far different from our feathers and their bodies become more suited for…combat" said Quetzal
There was a dead silence for a second that Max could tell was the calm before the storm
"C...c…c…COMBAT!" yelled Zak's father
"Why would they be fighting!" asked Ord's mother franticly
"In a Dragon Rider team both the human and dragon make a promise to protect the humans of the human world" said Quetzal
"Why would they have to fight to PROTECT people? How can you help someone by hurting someone else?" asked Zak's father
Quetzal sighed before answering
"As much as you might find this hard to believe in the human world things are very different than our world, the human world is far more dangerous than our world. In Dragon Land most of the creatures that live here are very nice and kind; in the human world there are some very bad humans" said Quetzal in a slightly depressed tone
"So? We have some naughty creatures here too like Syris and we don't have to beat him up to stop him" said Cassie's father
"Yes we do have bullies and some thieves in this world but humans have far worse things like criminals" said Quetzal
"What are criminals?" asked Ord's father
It was at this time Emmy finally realized just how safe Dragon Land was; even the adults didn't know about crime or criminals. Before this time Emmy never realized how pure and clean Dragon Land was compared to her world; no crime, no pollution, no one being poor or homeless, and no one fighting with fists ever. Emmy then began to think of how she had taken for granted this paradise she had found and felt a little guilty she had never truly appreciated it before
"Criminals are evil humans who use force or tricks to take whatever they want or just so that they can hurt others. They will not hesitate to severely hurt or even kill others who have done nothing wrong to get what they want. And there are not one or two of them like in our world with Syris; there are millions of them maybe more" said Quetzal seriously
All the adults froze
They thought of the idea of someone killing just to take something they wanted; it was alien to them that someone could be so evil. In Dragon Land no one so much as hit someone else to take something; how could anything actually kill over something they wanted
"Why would they do that?" asked Cassie's mother in horror
"For many reasons like they have no money to buy things or they just don't want to have to pay for something; some evil humans might actually kill just to kill" said Quetzal
All the adults were speechless with horror
"They are why your children will inevitably have to fight to protect the human world" said Quetzal
"They can't it's far too dangerous!" all the adults said
"They have made a promise to do so" said Quetzal
"Then just will have to not be Dragon Rider Dragons" said Zak's father
All the adults seem to agree with this idea
"That is not possible" said Quetzal in a sad tone
"Why not?" asked Cassie's father
"When they became Dragon Rider Dragons their hearts became one with their human partners there is no way to separate their hearts and no way to make them go back to normal. They now share every pain and wound equally, they are now tuned into each other and can sense things about the other" explained Quetzal
"Then they will have to not fulfill their promise" said Zak's father
Zak and Wheezie were in shock; they couldn't believe their own father had told them not to do something they had promised to do
Quetzal sighed again and looked at the children for a second then he turned back to the parents
"If they do not fulfill this promise they will have to pay a price" said Quetzal sadly
"What price?" asked Ord's father
'They will…." Quetzal stopped a moment to look at the children
Emmy saw he looked as thought he was about to cry
"They will never be able to see Emmy, Max, or Enrique ever again and their Dragon Scale will lose all it's power" said Quetzal sadly
Everything went dead silent
Cassie, Ord, Zak, and Wheezie looked at the children with a look of absolute horror on their faces
Emmy, Max, and Enrique had almost all the color drain out of their faces and just looked at the dragons for a second
"No" said Emmy weakly in shock her face looking like someone's who had just died
Inside Emmy felt like someone had just reached into her body and crushed her heart without any remorse like it was some sort of sick joke
Suddenly tears began to fly down Cassie and Ord's cheeks and both practically jumped from their chairs and began to hug Emmy and Max
Wheezie did the same thing to Enrique but Zak was still too dazed to cry yet
All the adults just looked at them unsure about what to do
"I'll do anything just don't make Emmy go!" said Cassie between her sobs
"But it's dangerous" said Cassie's father
"I don't care! I don't care! I don't care!" yelled Cassie her voice tinted with sadness and frustration while she was still crying
Her tears were streaming down her face as she held onto Emmy as though if she let go Emmy would be gone forever
"I don't want to lose my little buddy!" said Ord hugging Max so hard he nearly crushed him; but at the time Max didn't mind he was too busy crying with Ord to care
"After all we've been though I don't want to lose him no matter how dangerous or scary what I have to do to stay with him is" said Ord still nearly crushing Max
All the adults looked at each other hoping one of them knew what to do
"Cassie…" Emmy said softly remembering how she had did the same thing in the bank
"After what we did to save you we have to chose weather we risk our lives or lose you forever! It's not fair!" said Cassie still crying into Emmy who was trying to be strong and not let her own tears flow
"I don't want to be separated from our friends forever" said Wheezie sadly
There was only the sound of crying for a second until a yell broke out
"I'll do it even if it is dangerous!" yelled Zak finally realizing what was going on
"Yeah!" joined Wheezie
Zak's father stared in shock; he had never heard Zak say he would do anything dangerous and now he was saying he would risk his life
"Hold on ninos it's ok" Quetzal said trying to comfort them
"Cassie will you really do this?" asked Cassie's mom empathetically
Cassie just nodded
Cassie's parents looked at each other and knew forcing her from her best friend would break her heart
Cassie's father sighed before he talked
"Cassie you can do this it you want" said Cassie's father compassionately
Cassie ran up and hugged her parents
The other parents looked at each other and knew that there was no way to stop them from doing this; the chance of death would not break these friends up
"Ord if you need to fight and be a Dragon Rider to stay with Max we will let you" said Ord's father
"Zak, Wheezie if you both are willing to do this even thought it is dangerous we won't stop you, just be careful please" said Wheezie's mother
Wheezie did a back flip she was so happy
The back flip did not make Zak happy
"Don't worry the children will be very safe the power of the Dragon Rider will protect them so long as they work together. Also their powers should be more than a match for anything humans can throw at them" said Quetzal
"What powers?" asked Max
"You shall see after lunch; Sage shall help show you how to use your powers since she is one of the most skilled dragons in Dragon Land with magic" said Quetzal
"We have to go home for lunch or else our mom will worry" said Emmy
"Be back after lunch you have to hear what Sage has to tell you, it is about the history of dragons and Dragon Riders" said Quetzal
"Come back soon ok?" asked Cassie
"We will" said Emmy
"Don't worry, I've never seen Ord finish his huge lunches early" said Zak just as Ord began taking out a sandwich from his pouch
The children hugged the dragons and said their goodbyes before going back home for lunch
Later
After the children had lunch at home they went back to the play room and used the dragon scale to get to Dragon Land
They arrived in a field in Dragon Land and saw their dragon friends and Quetzal standing nearby
They walked up to them and were quickly being crushed by Ord's dragon hug
"Hi Ord" said Max in a strained voice
"Um Ord can you loosen up a little?" asked Emmy also in a strained voice
Ord let out a slight embarrassed chuckle
"Oops sorry" said Ord as he put them down
"Ok ninos you have to go see Sage at her cave I trust you remember where it is" said Quetzal
"We do, it's just down the path near Dragoon Lagoon" said Emmy
"Good she will be expecting you; she shall teach you more about your powers and she will also tell you about the history of dragons and Dragon Riders. I warn you; you might not like what you hear" said Quetzal before he flew off
They all began walking to Sage's cave
"Guys what do you think he meant by we might not like what we hear?" asked Emmy as they walked along the Lagoon
"I don't know" said Wheezie
"Do you think it's a scary story? I really don't like scary stories they're scary!" said Ord in a scared tone
"I'm sure it will be fine Ord" reassured Max
"I'm interested in seeing what kind of powers we have besides what we can do already" said Enrique
"Maybe we can fly" said Wheezie in an excited tone as they entered the pink forest
"We can already do that Wheezie" pointed out Zak
"Oh yeah" said Wheezie embarrassingly
"Well we know we can survive a lot thanks to our scales" said Cassie
"We can attack using those cool dragon breaths" said Wheezie
"And we are a lot stronger" said Ord
"Yeah and we can move a lot faster than normal and use our swords really good" said Max
"Really well Max" corrected Emmy
"If we can do all that imagine what else we can do" said Enrique optimistically
"It probably has something to do with magic since we are going to see a wizard" said Cassie
"Yeah maybe we can use magic just like Quetzal and Sage" said Emmy
"Cool I always wanted to try doing magic" said Max
"Me too" said Enrique
"I hope it doesn't take too long, I have to baby-sit Kiki and Finn later" said Cassie
"Well then let's hurry" said Wheezie as she began to break into a run down the sunny path
"Hey slow down!" said Zak as Wheezie dragged him along at high speed
"Hey wait up" said Emmy as everyone else also started to run
They all began racing off to Sage's cave laughing all the way
Sage's Cave
They arrived a short time later and were met at the entrance of the cave by Sage
The wise old dragon wizard asked them to come in so they all came inside and sat down
"So Quetzal tells me you are the new Dragon Riders" said Sage calmly
"Yes we made the pact to stop a bank robbery and save me" said Emmy
"Well let's just see what we got here" said Sage as she came over and began to examine the dragons and children
She looked them over carefully until she found what she was looking for
"Here it is" said Sage as she looked at the white heart shaped patch on skin that was on Emmy's hand
"You all have one, right?" asked Sage to the others while holding Emmy's hand up
"Yeah they appeared when we became the dragon riders" said Max looking at his sun shaped one
"What are they?" asked Zak looking at his
"They are the proof that you made a pact with a dragon; they show many things about your hearts" said Sage
"What do they mean?" asked Enrique looking at both of his musical note shaped ones
"Well let's start here" said Sage looking at Emmy's
"Emmy's and Cassie's are heart shaped; this is because they care greatly for their friends and have strong unyielding hearts" said Sage
"Really?" asked Cassie holding hers up for Sage to look at
"Yes you two care deeply for all your friends and have hearts filled with kindness and love; you use this love to help and protect others" said Sage
"What about ours?" asked Ord as he and Max held out their hands
"Your sign is the sun; this means your hearts are filled with happiness that radiates to others making them happy. Your hearts shine brightest in the dark; when all hope is lost you keep moving on and give hope to others" said Sage looking at Max and Ord's
"What about ours?" asked Wheezie excitedly
"Yeah why are they shaped like music notes?" asked Enrique
Sage looked down at all three of the of their signs
"Yours are musical notes; this represtesents the balance and harmony in songs and music" said Sage
"What?" asked Zak
"It means that by you three maintaining balance and harmony by working together with others you will be at your strongest. If this balance is disrupted it will be like a band not in time; the end result will be very bad" said Sage
"Oh! Now I get it" said Wheezie not really understanding all of it
"All of you must remember that no matter what happens you need to stay together, if you are separated you shall be vulnerable and weak" warned Sage
"Don't worry no matter what happens nothing can break us apart" said Emmy
"Yeah!" said Max
"Good now lets get onto what you came here for your training with magic" said Sage
"We get to use magic?" asked Wheezie excitedly
"Yes, it is said that all dragon riders could use a special type of magic unique to Dragon Riders. I shall do my best to show you how to use some of your spells but most you will have to figure out since I am not a Dragon Rider Dragon" said Sage
"How do we use spells?" asked Emmy
"Let's go outside first, I don't want to be casting unknown magic inside" said Sage as she led the children outside
Outside Sage's Cave
When they got outside Sage handed Emmy, Max, and Enrique a gray book
"What are these?" asked Emmy
"Those are spell books; they will record all your spells" said Sage
"Hey! They're empty!" said Max looking in his which was blank
"That is because you haven't put your mark on them yet" said Sage
"How do we do that?" asked Enrique
"Put your Dragon Rider mark on the cover and focus" said Sage
They put their marks to the books and focused on the books
The books glowed different colors for a second before residing
The books had changed
Emmy's now was pink with a heart with two wings coming out of it on the cover and fine patterns allover it
Max's was the same except it was blue with a sun on the clover
Enrique's was purple and green with line of musical notes on it
"Neat!" said Emmy looking at the book
"Pretty!" said Cassie looking at Emmy's beautiful pink book
"LOVVVVVEEEEE IT!" sang Wheezie looking at Enrique's
"Cool!" said Max
"Those books should now record all your spells; both dragon and rider shall be able to cast spells but some require both of you and some only one of you shall be able to cast" explained Sage as the children looked over their books
"Can we do some spells now?" asked Max
"Yes but be careful we have no idea what they will do" warned Sage
"What spells do we have?" asked Max
"Open your books and find out" said Sage
They all open their books and saw their spells written in color ink
There weren't many of them
"Wow there's not a lot of them" said Whezzie seeing that only one page was filled with four or five spells
"You shall learn more spells as you get stronger" said Sage
"Ord, Max you're up first, aim away from everyone at the boulder over there" said Sage
"Ok let's see what we can do" said Max excitedly
He looked down at his book for a second and read the spell they he turned to a open area with a boulder to cast his spell
"STRIKE BLADE!" he yelled out
Next thing Max knew it was like he wasn't in control of his body; he was moving without having to think about it
He twirled his blade around in front of him while a blue energy wind blew around him
After he stopped the wind subsided and he raised his blade in front of him
Before anyone could blink he flew forward at high speed blade drawn straight towards the rock
He swung his mighty sword just as he reached the rock and hit it with enough force to send it flying clear over the horizon
"Whoa!" said Ord seeing that Max had just sent a rock bigger and heavier than him flying into the distance
"Awesome!" said Max looking at what he had just done
"That is the most basic kind of spell an attack spell; they are powerful attacks that require you to use more energy than normal. Be careful though totally relying on them is not a good idea since they will rapidly drain your energy" said Sage
"My turn!" said Ord excitedly
He turned to the field and aimed at another boulder before he bent down and read the spell
Ord stood up and faced the boulder
"THUNDAGEA!" shouted Ord
A giant blue lightning bolt came down from the sky and hit the boulder causing it to explode
Ord screamed and dove to the ground
"Cool! A lightning spell!" said Max
"It just had to be scary lightning spell didn't it?" said Ord while he was still cowering
"Zak, Wheezie you're next" instructed Sage
They both went forward while Max tried talking to Ord who was still recovering from the thunder spell
"Ok let's see what we got" said Zak as he inspected the spells they could try
"Oh let's do that one!" said Wheezie pointing to a spell that caught her eye
They both turned to the field and aimed at another boulder
"Do Re MI BLAST!" they shouted in unison
Zak's dragon badge glowed green and made a Do sound
Then Wheezie's badge glowed purple and made a Re sound
Finally they both made a Mi sound and green and purple energy beams shot out of them
They combined in midair and struck the boulder destroying most of it
"An attack that sounds cool LOVE IT!" said Wheezie happily
"Not bad, that was actually kind of nice" said Zak
"My turn!" said Enrique going up while Zak and Wheezie went back with the others to a safe area
Enrique quickly looked up a spell and took aim
"DOUBLE BEAT!" he shouted
A rainbow color aura appeared around him that appeared to emit a very fast melody
"What did it do?" asked Zak
"I don't know but I love that beat!" said Wheezie liking the fast music
"Ok now this is what is called a support spell, it is a spell that doesn't attack but affects someone so they can fight better" said Sage
"Ok let me try it" said Enrique
He ran forward at high speeds and began to slice at the boulder so fast no one even saw him attack
When he stopped the boulder fell to pieces in seconds
"Whoa!" he said shocked at his speed
"That spell must make you faster" said Emmy
"Oh I want to try that!" said Wheezie
Zak thought of Wheezie running at high speed and did not like that idea
"Don't even think about it, you're bad enough at normal speed; besides someone else has to get a turn too" warned Zak
"Ok my turn" said Emmy going up
She quickly looked at a spell and then got ready
"DRAGON HEAL!" she called out
A giant pink energy heart surrounded Emmy and began to release sparkles
"Oh no Emmy!" called Cassie out in fear because she thought Emmy had been hit by her own attack
"Don't worry Cassie it actually feels really good" said Emmy
Emmy felt a warm comforting sensation all around her body she also noticed it tickled a little bit too
"That would be another support spell, a healing spell. It cures most problems like scratches, cuts, and bruises but for more serious things more powerful spells will be needed" said Sage as Emmy's spell finally wore off
"I guess it's my turn" said Cassie as she went up
She looked down at the book searching for a spell to use
"Um I guess this is good" said Cassie spotting a spell near the top of the list
"ENERGY RAIN!" she called out
Cassie looked to the sky and raised her hand. A pink ball of energy gathered in her hand before it shot high into the air
The ball separated in the air into a bunch of pink energy arrows that were all pointed to the ground. They hung there a few seconds before they all came crashing down all over the place causing explosions
Everyone headed for cover while the hail of energy arrows continued
When it was over everyone could see a bunch of craters all over the place
"Where's Cassie!" asked Emmy worried about her friend
"Oh no!" said Max pointing to Cassie who was on the ground
Everyone ran over to her to see how she was
"Cassie are you alright! Wake up!" said Emmy franticly
"Did she get hit with the spell?" asked Enrique
"No I don't think so, I believe she just used up too much energy on that last spell. Using too much energy will cause you to pass out so be careful with your spells" warned Sage
"Hey Wheezie want to try some more spells?" asked Zak
"Is she going to be alright?" asked Emmy
"Yes, she will be fine after a nap bring her inside so she can rest. I believe that is enough spell casting for now anyway" said Sage
They went inside where they put Cassie on a bed to rest while the others relaxed to get back their strength
Later
"Ughhhhh What happened?" said Cassie finally getting up from her nap
"Cassie you're finally awake!" said Emmy happily going over to her
"You fell asleep since that last spell drained all your power" said Ord
"You had us worried" said Zak
"Sorry" said Cassie
"No problem we're just glad you're alright" said Enrique
Just then Sage walked in
"Oh! You're awake! Do you feel alright?" asked Sage
"I'm fine" said Cassie
"Good now it's time I told you the history of the Dragon Riders" said Sage sitting down in a armchair while the children sat on the carpet
"Quetzal already told us about the Dragon Riders" said Max
Sage looked sad for a moment at this comment
"Well you see children he didn't tell you all of it, he left out the….darker parts of the story" said Sage sadly
"Darker! Is this going to be scary!" asked Ord in fright
"Yes I'm afraid it is but you have to hear it, we wanted to tell you when you were older but because you made the pact so young we have no choice" said Sage
Everyone could tell she was worried
"Just what happened?" asked Emmy cautiously
Sage sighed before answering
"You all know that dragons were in the human world at one time correct?" asked Sage
"Yeah Quetzal told us" said Zak
"He said it was five hundred years ago" said Wheezie
"Well were did you think they came from?" asked Sage
"Dragon Land of course" said Cassie
"No they don't" said Sage
"What?" asked Cassie in shock
"Dragons actually were originally from the human world" said Sage
"You mean they're from earth?" asked Enrique
"Yes once upon a time dragons lived on earth with humans" said Sage
"That explains why there are myths about dragons all over the world!" realized Emmy
"Yes dragons and humans shared the world along with a lot of other creatures" said Sage
"You mean like Unicorns, giants, and other magical creatures?" asked Max
"Yes, it was because of all the magic we give off that all those creatures were born on earth" said Sage
"What do you mean "Give off"?" asked Emmy
"Dragons give off powerful magical energy all the time, it causes other magical creatures to appear where we are" Sage turned to Emmy "Emmy did anything odd happen when you transformed in the human world?" she asked
"Um… Oh yeah! When we transformed all the electronic stuff around the bank turned off or broke" said Emmy remembering how everyone who was outside the bank said all the lights turned off and a few miles away a local news station had everything go haywire
"As I suspected, when you transformed it gave off a powerful magical energy wave. One thing you should know right now; magic and electronics don't mix. When you give off a magical wave all the electronics around you will stop working, this will protect you from being caught on camera as well" said Sage
"What about all the electronics we brought to dragon land?" asked Max remembering how Emmy made a movie in Dragon Land
"There are exceptions, the magic will not affect a electrical device if you don't want it to" explained Sage
"Getting back to the story, dragons lived on earth with humans and all other kinds of creatures. We mostly avoided humans because of them fighting all the time, when dragons did intervene with humans we did a lot of good especially dragons in the east. We tried our best to help humans with our powers and great strength and abilities, but sometimes it was hard with us looking as scary as we did" said Sage
"Dragons don't look scary" said Max
"We used to" said Sage
"Used to?" asked Ord
"Yes, dragons back then did not look like dragons now we looked more like how humans think we look, we were strong with scaly wings, we crawled on all fours, we looked fierce, and we were a lot bigger and more suited to fight" said Sage
"That sounds scary" said Ord in a fearful voice
"How did we change?" asked Cassie
"That I'll explain later but for now let's get on with the story. As I was saying we scared the humans a lot but we always helped them when they had a problem, we did that with the Dragon Riders" said Sage
"So the Dragon Riders were made to help people" said Emmy
"Yes, one day a dragon and a human who were best friends fought alongside each other when his home was attacked by a much stronger kingdom. The boy was hurt in the battle, the dragon came rushing to his side only to see that he was mortally wounded. The dragon summoned up all his power to save to boy by putting a little of his heart in the boy's. The reaction between human heart and dragon heart caused both of them to be a lot stronger than they were before. They were the first Dragon Rider team, from then on whenever humans and dragons liked each other enough and they needed the power of the Dragon Rider to save people they would become a Dragon Rider team" said Sage
"Cool!" said Max at the end of the story
"So humans and dragons became riders to help people" said Emmy
"Yes" answered Sage
"Um Sage I have another question. Some people who were at the bank said the dragons talked in roars and growls but I know they talk normal" said Emmy
"That's another power you have, ordinary people won't be able to understand dragon talk unless you use a special spell on them which I will teach you later" said Sage
"Why do we need to not have humans understand us?" asked Wheezie
"It's so that dragon and rider can communicate secretly" said Sage
"It's like a secret language LOVVVVEEEE ITTTT!" yelled Wheezie
"Were you alive when the Dragon Riders were around?" asked Enrique
"No I wasn't, not even Quetzal is that old but since we both are high educated dragons we sought out to learn about the riders from very old dragons when we were younger. I found out about the riders from an ancient book that told about them, I passed on what I had learned from the book to the big story book and Quetzal learned from that. Their was however one Dragon Rider dragon that used to live in Dragon Land long ago" said Sage
"Who?" asked Max
"The legendary Dragon Land hero Prince Griffin" answered Sage
"He was a Dragon Rider dragon? No one ever said anything about his rider" said Ord remembering that Lorca never mentioned a human with Prince Griffin and he knew all about him
"His rider died sadly before he came to Dragon Land" said Sage sadly
"Oh… What happened?" asked Ord
"Well… here comes the part we hesitated to tell you about, I really wish we didn't have to tell you about it but if you are to be Dragon Riders you must know what happened" said Sage hesitantly
"How bad can it be? You said everything was fine with the Dragon Riders" said Zak
"Yeah, how bad can it be with super powered dragons going all over the place fighting bad guys?" asked Wheezie
"Yes it is true things were going well with the Dragon Riders working on relations between humans and dragons, but then… things went horribly wrong" said Sage sadly
"What happened?" asked Cassie cautiously thinking the answer was definitely not going to be good
"One day, for a reason no one knows about humans began to… they began to…" Sage began to hesitate, the thought was the same through out the room, the answer was not good
Finally Max asked the question all were thinking "What did humans do?" he asked weakly
"They… began to kill dragons" said Sage weakly
No one made a sound, they were all busy trying to get over the shock of what they just heard
"No…" was all that Emmy could say very weakly, all the color had drained out of her face and she just stared blankly
"Wh…Why?" stuttered Ord
"No one knows what started it, almost overnight all dragons were thought to be evil and people feared us even more. They thought we were the cause of all their problems and they sought to kill every dragon they could, knights began to kill dragons for glory or money, that is were your knights and dragons game came from" said Sage
All the dragon children remembered playing that game in their free time, could a simple game have such dark origins? Were they actually imitating the slaughter of their own kind?
'No it can't be…' thought Emmy weakly tears waiting to break out
"A special group of humans known as the Dragon Slayers began to hunt dragons all around the globe; they hunted the ice dragons of the Artic, the Wyrns of Africa, the wise imperial dragons of China and Japan, and even the tiny kangaroo dragons of Australia. They even went after all Dragon Riders teams they could" said Sage grimly
"Couldn't the Dragon Riders stop them?" asked Cassie in shock at all this
"They had the help of a dark magic that allowed them to kill even the strongest Dragon Rider, it allowed them to cut a Dragon Rider dragon's scales with ease so they could easily stop them. In addition to that they had a powerful poison that could kill the biggest and strongest dragon easily, Dragonsbane" said Sage grimly
'No it can't be true, it can't!' thought Emmy
The others also seemed shocked a horrified by this but not as much as Emmy who was having a breakdown
"Humans had almost killed every single dragon on the planet when we decided we had to do something, the remaining Dragon Riders and a lot of other powerful dragons joined forces and used all their power to do what most was thought impossible. They made a new world and they decided to call it Dragon Land, they made Dragon Land so that we could escape the humans that wanted to kill us and live in peace. A lot of other magical species decided to join us since they had grown tired of the human's behavior as well. With all the dragons gone all the hate disappeared and eventually everyone thought dragons were just a myth, the Dragon Slayers disbanded and we all lived in peace here. Over time we all changed, we lost our fighting powers, we put on some weight, and our wings let us fly just by using magic. This happened over five hundred years ago earth time but it was a lot longer for us because of our much slower time" said Sage
"Humans did all that?" asked Enrique in shock
"Yes" said Sage
"They why did you let us come back?" asked Max
"Well over time a certain dragon began to miss humans and playing with them like she used to, so she made special scales that would bring them to our world to play. She made it so that only young children could use the scales" explained Sage
"Why children?" asked Zak
"Because children are pure, they lack the hate and fear that drove us from the human world" answered Sage
"Oh you did it because they're nice" said Wheezie
'Yeah until we grow up' thought Emmy bitterly sitting still staring at the floor with blank eyes. No one noticed she was having a breakdown because of the story
"Yes but over time the children would grow up and eventually the scale would stop working for them" said Sage
"What about Captain Scalawag? He's an adult human" asked Cassie
"Well children could chose to live here permanently and he chose to live here so he could stay even when he was an adult" explained Sage
"Will the same thing happen to our friends!" asked Ord worried
"Yes eventually Emmy, Max, and Enrique would have had to stay or leave Dragon Land permanently" said Sage
"Oh no!" said Ord grabbing Max
"Wait, what do you mean by would?" asked Enrique
"With the power of the Dragon Riders you can open portals into Dragon Land by yourself so you can come and go as you please no matter how old you get" said Sage
Everyone looked happy at the news, well… all except Emmy who was showing no emotion still
She busy thinking about the story and how much pain humans had caused as Max, Enrique, and their dragon friends talked happily about how they could stay together forever. Emmy couldn't understand how they could be happy after what they had heard
'How could they! They hurt someone that was trying to help them for no reason!' thought Emmy angrily. She felt disgusted to be human 'First those bank robbers and now this! Are all humans good at is causing pain? Dragons made this world to get away from our kind and now we have come back and we're messing it up with making them fight as Dragon Riders! We shouldn't be in this world, we don't deserve to be here after all the pain and suffering humans have caused dragons' she thought with a look of hate on her normally happy face
"We should just leave for good" said Emmy coldly finally speaking up
"How can you say that Emmy!" asked Max getting to his feet along with the others shocked his sister would ever suggest leaving Dragon Land permanently
"We don't deserve to be here after all that our kind has done, we'll just end up hurting them again" said Emmy bitterly
"How can you say that?" asked Enrique knowing Emmy was not thinking straight
"All humans are good at is causing pain! Humans nearly killed all of the dragons for no reason at all! And we don't deserve to be here after what our kind did! Eventually we'll grow up and we'll end up hurting them again!" yelled Emmy angrily with a few tears beginning to run down her face
"You don't know that!" yelled Max angrily at his sister
"Calm down!" said Enrique as he put his hand on Max's shoulder trying to break up the fight
"Max! Emmy! Stop arguing please!" begged Cassie
Max backed down but Emmy was still very angry
The dragons knew she had a hard time calming down when she was mad like when she had lost the dance game
All the dragons looked on worriedly at the scene, they knew Emmy was not herself and they were very scared to see Max and Emmy arguing this fiercely
"Be quiet!" yelled Emmy angrily as she turned to Cassie
Cassie could see that Emmy had hate in her eyes but she could tell that the hate was not directed at her but at herself for being human
"Emmy I don't hate you or any other human for what they did" said Cassie trying to calm Emmy down
"Yeah it was the people in the past that did it not you" said Ord
"You're lying!" yelled Emmy
"Emmy calm down please!" begged Cassie as she moved towards Emmy
"Get away!" yelled Emmy as she swung her fist at Cassie's face
The fist missed but Cassie fell back in shock
Everyone gasped as Cassie hit the floor hard
Emmy just looked at the scene for a second; she thought she had actually hit Cassie
Emmy quickly looked down at her clenched fist 'It's already happened, I just hurt my best friend for no reason' Emmy thought sadly tears beginning to flow again
Before anyone could say anything or Cassie could get up she ran out the entrance of Sage's cave tears streaming down her face as she ran away from her best friend she had just hurt
"Cassie! Are you alright!" asked Wheezie as she and the others ran over to her as she got up
"I'm fine, where's Emmy?" she asked urgently as she looked around
"She ran outside after she hit you" said Zak
"Are you sure you're ok?" asked Ord
"Yeah she missed" said Cassie getting up with some help from Ord
"Why would she do that?" asked Zak
"Remember when I hit Ord and Emmy because I was mad?" asked Max
"Yeah" said Ord
"Being mad makes you do things you wouldn't normally do and it can make you hurt your friends" said Max
"I still don't get why she was so mad" said Wheezie
"I was worried about this" said Sage as she got up from her chair "Me and Quetzal worried one of you would act this way when you found out the truth about humans, that is why we hesitated to tell you until you were older"
"What do we do now?" asked Zak
"We have to go find Emmy" said Cassie
"Good idea let's all split up and look for her, me and Enrique will check to see if she went home while you guys check around Dragon Land" said Max
"Ok…Oh! But I have to baby-sit Kiki and Finn" said Cassie
"I guess you'll have to bring them along" said Ord
"Ok let's go" said Enrique as they all went to look for Emmy
With Emmy
Emmy ran and ran through Dragon Land thinking about what she had just done and how Cassie would probably hate her from now on 'At least…' she thought 'Cassie won't have to risk her life as a Dragon Rider'
Emmy wandered around Dragon Land for several hours, she came upon a grassy cliff around sundown
She sat sown near the edge letting her legs hang off the side
She looked up at the beautiful Dragon Land sunset thinking this would be the last time she would be able to come back to Dragon Land to see one
"I shouldn't be watching this; a human doesn't deserve to be able to enjoy a Dragon Land sunset after what we did to them. They wanted to help us and for no reason we killed them, we actually thought they were the bad one's when we killed them for no reason!' she thought angrily
That's all that she could think about 'We killed them for no reason' was all that went through her head for an unknown amount of time to her, it seemed like hours but it could have been minutes
She began to think about almost every story she had heard about dragons, it was always the same thing over and over. Evil dragon shows up, Knight shows up and slays the dragon, happily ever after. Emmy didn't mind them when she knew they were just fairy tales and she knew the truth that dragons were nice. But now she knew the truth, those stories talked about the killing of innocent dragons. The knight was not the hero; he was just the executioner for an innocent dragon. Emmy couldn't get the image of a young dragon girl looking just like Cassie being slain by a knight out of her head
She then thought back to the dream she had just after she had been shot by the Dragon Rider statue
Flash Back
'You shall learn the truth about what humans have done, the question is will you be able to handle knowing the truth about your own kind?'
"What? What about humans?" asked Emmy puzzled
'Long ago humans did something foolish that caused Dragon Land to be needed'
"What did they do?" asked Emmy sounding worried
'You shall learn when it is time and you have discovered the power of a dragon's heart'
"A dragon's heart?" asked Emmy puzzled
'Yes but be careful the enemies of dragons are not all gone in the human world'
"Who would want to hurt the dragons?" asked Emmy
End Flashback
Now Emmy knew who would want to… the humans
Emmy sat their for a while lost in thought until she felt something on her lap
She looked down to see a pale green baby dragon sitting on her lap; it was Finn, Cassie's baby brother
He looked up at her and said in his barely understandable baby voice "Emmwe"
Emmy looked down at him in shock
"Were did you come from?" she asked him gently forgetting what had happened for a second
He didn't answer since he couldn't talk but he just smiled at her and made a cooing sound
"It's nice to see you to Finn" said Emmy happily picking him up and cradling him
For some reason Finn had made her forget her pain and sadness, she remembered helping Cassie take care of him many times when she had to baby-sit
She began to tickle his tummy playfully and watched as he giggled
After she stopped she held him up "Aren't you suppose to be with Cassie?" she asked him
Suddenly she heard footsteps behind her; she could hear that they were moving towards her. They stopped and she could hear someone sitting down next to her, she turned to see Cassie sitting next to her cradling Kiki
Emmy felt a sense of dread enter her, she knew Cassie was going to yell at her and be mad at her for hitting her. She knew Cassie might even try and hit her back but she was alright with that, she deserved it. She could see that Cassie had turned to her and was about to talk, she got ready for yelling, screaming, and maybe even a fist from her pink dragon friend
"Hi Emmy" said Cassie gently
This threw Emmy off; wasn't she mad? didn't she hate her for hitting her?
Emmy sat there speechless
"Cassie!" yelled out Finn happily to see his sister
He couldn't tell what was going on because he was only a baby but he could tell something was wrong
"Hi Finn for a second I was worried, don't run off like that again" said Cassie
"Thanks for finding him Emmy" said Cassie as she put Kiki down on her lap so she could play with Finn
This was that last thing Emmy expected, she didn't expect Cassie would come near her again let alone talk to her
"Are you alright?" asked Emmy
"Yeah you missed" said Cassie
"Are you going to yell at me?" asked Emmy
"Of course not!" said Cassie
"Aren't you mad?" asked Emmy confused while Kiki and Finn began making funny faces at each other
"You're my best friend I could never get mad at you, besides you were only like that because you were mad" said Cassie
"I'm really sorry" said Emmy
"It's ok, but just why did you get so mad before?" asked Cassie
"It was the story; I just can't believe humans can be so evil, dragons wanted to help humans and in return they were killed. I wanted to leave Dragon Land since we don't deserve to be here after what we have done" said Emmy sadly glad to talk to someone about how she felt
"That's not true!" said Cassie
"Yeah now, but what about when we grow up; me, Enrique, and Max could turn evil too" said Emmy
"I know deep down you're one of the nicest people I know and you won't turn evil" said Cassie
"How can you tell that?" asked Emmy skeptically
"Look down" said Cassie
Emmy looked down to see Finn on her lap trying to get Emmy to play with him
Emmy smiled and picked him up and began tickling him again while Cassie looked on and smiled while holding Kiki
When she stopped Finn leaned up against her stomach to rest while Emmy turned to Cassie
"See deep down you are nice and I know you won't turn evil" said Cassie
"Yeah you're right" said Emmy
They both turned to watch the sunset as it began its final decent
"So what do we do now?" asked Cassie
"Well I have to get home soon, but how about as soon as we can I show you our world?" suggested Emmy
"That sounds fun" said Cassie happily

Chapter 8: A New World
Emmy, Max, and Enrique take the dragons to the human world to show them around, the dragons have a fun time seeing their human friend's world for a change. They see the play room, their house, their town, and many other things. They have a lot to learn about the human world if they are to fight in it but with a quick crash course from their friends they should learn fast
