Seto Kaiba logged off his laptop and sleepily glanced at the clock. It read 3:00 A.M. in its annoying bright color. He sighed. I can't keep staying up this late.
The CEO made his way to his bedroom. Passing by his younger brother's room, he noticed the light was still on. He probably forgot to shut it off again.
Seto pushed open the door as quietly as he could, jumping a little when he heard his name.
"Big brother," Mokuba began, causing his brother to face him.
"Mokuba, it's a school night. Why are you still awake? You have to get up in a few hours," Seto started in, interrupting his brother.
"Well, you have to be up in two hours, so you should be asleep, too," Mokuba replied innocently.
"I'm also much older than you are," Seto countered.
"It doesn't matter, you still have to sleep, but that's not why I'm still awake," Mokuba paused, knowing he shouldn't keep his brother for too long. They both needed to go to bed as soon as possible.
Seto waited for his brother to finish. I hope this doesn't take too long.
"Do you remember when you used to tell me a story before I went to sleep? Well, I was just wondering if you could tell me one tonight. It's been so long, and I miss the bedtime stories," the young teen said. He felt childish. How many thirteen-year-olds listened to someone tell them a story before bed? Then again, most people his age had experienced a better childhood than himself. He should be allowed to experience the few happy memories he had of being a child every once in awhile.
Seto Kaiba, for once, didn't know what to say. He is thirteen, why is he asking for something most people get tired of by the time they are half his age?
"Aren't you a little old for that?" he finally said, wishing the subject could be dropped allowing him to go to bed.
"Yeah, I guess," Mokuba said dejection evident in his voice.
The CEO instantly felt terrible for making his younger brother upset. They were all each other had. He looked at his watch. In two hours and forty-five minutes he would have to get up. Oh well, I have gone all night without sleeping before. At least this time, I'll get around two hours of sleep.
"Fine, what story do you want to hear?" Seto said once he had made up his mind to stay. Mokuba's face lit up. He was glad his brother understood.
"Tell me a story about mom and dad," he replied, closing his eyes.
The elder Kaiba wasn't surprised by this answer. When Mokuba was younger, he always asked to hear stories about their parents who had passed away while the brothers were still very little.
He racked his mind for a story and remembered a time when all four of them had gone to the beach.
"When I was around six and you were still only one, our parents decided to take us on a small vacation," he started, sitting down next to Mokuba. The story didn't take long to tell, but his brother was asleep by the time he finished. He stood up, and turned off the lights. Before he shut the door, he faced his brother again.
"Goodnight Mokuba, I love you," he whispered. As if the teen had heard, he smiled in his sleep. Both went to bed glad that they still had each other.
How was it? Please review.
