Chapter 8: A New World
It had been one or two days since they had heard about the true history of the Dragon Riders and Emmy had lost it and hit Cassie
Emmy and Cassie had returned to the others, Emmy apologized a lot but no one was mad at Emmy since they knew she wasn't thinking straight
Emmy told them about the idea to show the dragons around the human world, Sage said it was alright and a good idea. She told them it would help them to understand earth better
They all agreed to go as soon as the opportunity arose which it did
Playroom
One morning Emmy, Max and Enrique were having fun playing in the playroom
Emmy was playing with dolls, Max was crashing his trucks, and Enrique was fixing his remote controlled car Max had crashed his toy dump truck into while they played
They were all waiting for a chance to show the dragons the human world
They couldn't just do it any time because Quetzal said when they came here time would be the same and if they were gone too long their parents would notice
They had agreed not to tell their parents since adults weren't allowed to know about Dragon Land, so this caused many problems
Quetzal said he would teach them a spell that might be able to help them later but for now they would have to keep time in the human world short
They had put their spell books in the draw with the dragon scale since it was the one place their parents might not find them while cleaning the room
Max was about to use a ramp made out of books to launch his truck into the air when their Mom called to them
"Kids I'm going out for a while, I'll probably be gone a couple of hours. Your Dad will be here but he has a lot of work to do. Will you be alright alone for a few hours?" she called to them
A giant smile spread across a three children's faces
"Yeah Mom we'll be alright" answered Emmy with a huge smile on her face
"Good, now be careful alright?" she asked
"Don't worry we will" said Max already knowing what this meant
"Bye" she called from down the hall
"Bye" all three children called
As soon as they saw their Mom's car leave they discussed what to do
"All right! With Mom gone and Dad busy we can show the dragons the human world!" said Max excitedly
"Let's go get them" said Enrique
"Definitely" said Emmy
Emmy got out the dragon scale and held it out to Max and Enrique who grabbed on
She also handed them the spell books
"I wish I wish with all my heart to fly with dragons in a land apart" they chanted
As usual the dragons on the walls came to life and began to spin around them at high speed until in a flash of light they were gone
Dragon Land
The dragons were lying around waiting for their human friends
They had agreed they needed to be ready just in case they got a chance to go to the human world so they made sure they were all together just in case it happened
"I wish they would show up soon I want to see the human world" said Wheezie impatiently
"Calm down Wheezie saying that won't make them come sooner, besides we have no idea if they will be able to do it today or in the next week" said Zak
"It will be interesting to see the human world" said Ord
"Yeah we always showed them our world but we never got to see theirs" said Cassie
"I just hope it's better then last time with the dirty air, the criminals, and those gun things" said Zak
"I'm sure the entire planet can't be that bad, that was just a really bad day" said Cassie
"Yeah I'm sure they have a lot of fun things too" said Ord
"Oh! Come on hurry up!" said Wheezie even more impatiently
"Like that's going to make them com….." Zak was cut off by the sound and lights of Emmy, Max, and Enrique arriving
"You're here!" said Ord happily as he ran up and hugged them
All three children gave out a slight "Ooof" as Ord dragon hugged them hard
"We're glad you're here, we have been wanting to see the human world" said Cassie as Ord let them go
"Yeah! I want to see what kinds of things you humans do for fun!" said Wheezie excitedly
"Yeah I want to see what kind off food you have" said Ord licking his lips
"I want to see were you guys live since you have seen our caves lots of times" said Cassie
"I just hope this time is safer" said Zak
"We still have to be careful not to be seen, unlike Dragon Land people will freak out if they see a strange creature walking around. You guys are going to have to hide whenever there are other people around" warned Emmy
"Aw! How are we going to have fun if we can't be seen?" asked Wheezie disappointedly
"Sorry but we have to" said Enrique
"We can still have fun" said Max
"Ok time to go" Emmy
"Wait, we still have to transform to open the portal" pointed our Enrique
"Ok let's do it then" said Max impatiently
All of them paired up and got read to transform
"Dragon Heart!" they all shouted at once
Their was a colored glow around each of them like the first time except it was smaller and wasn't as bright
When the light settled down they had all transformed back into the Dragon Riders
"I'm getting used to that now" Max
"That's not so bad for the third time" said Zak
"Ok guys let's open the portal" said Emmy
"I call upon the power of dragon and human to break the barrier that divides the worlds!" they all yelled at once
A portal made of swirling rainbow colored energy appeared a few feet in front of them
"Let's hope it doesn't make us sick again" said Zak
"Sage said it would the first few times" said Emmy to Zak's dismay
"Might as well get it over with" said Enrique on Zak and Wheezie's back
"Let's GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" said Wheezie running into the portal
"Easy Wheezieeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!" yelled Zak being dragged along for the ride as they went through the portal
Cassie and Ord followed soon after with Emmy and Max on their backs
Human World
They burst through the portal over the children's home town
They all felt a little sick after going through the portal again
"Ughhhh I hope that gets better soon" said Zak looking even greener
"That wasn't so bad" said Wheezie hardly affected
"Were are we?" asked Cassie looking around
It was a lot different than the last time they were there
It was a warm sunny morning with fair winds and almost no clouds
They were now over a small town instead of a big city
"Yeah were are all those shy scrapper things?" asked Ord
"Skyscraper Ord" corrected Emmy
"There are none here, this is a small town they don't have tall buildings here" explained Enrique
"At least this place looks a lot better than that city place, it's greener and the air smells better but it still smells like fire though" said Zak
"This place does look a lot better than the city place. The other place was all grey or black, this place actually has some color" said Wheezie
"This is our town" said Max
"Neat, were do you live?" asked Ord
"We'll show you" Emmy looked around confused "If we can find it" said Emmy
Everything looked different from way up high, and they couldn't go lower without being seen
"How will we find our way around?" asked Enrique
"Maybe the spell books have a way we can find our way around" suggested Cassie
"Good idea!" said Emmy getting hers out as Max and Enrique did the same
"How will know which spell will help us find our way around?" asked Zak
As soon as he said that a spell in all three books began glowing
"I have a feeling the glowing spells might be able to help us" said Wheezie
"They're all the same spell in each book" said Emmy as Max and Enrique held up their books so everyone could see them
In each book the spell that was glowing was the same, The Path Finder spell
"Ok let's cast it" said Max
"Path Finder!!!" all three children yelled
Suddenly the page in their books changed, they now had a map on the page they were looking at
The map showed the area they were flying over, it showed streets, buildings, and other landmarks
The map also showed six dots; two pink ones labeled Emmy and Cassie, two blue ones marked Max and Ord, and two purple and green ones marked Enrique and Zak and Wheezie
"Cool! They must show were we are!" said Max as he and Ord flew around in circles for a second and watched the two blue dots on the map do the same thing
"I recognize the road we're flying over, I know they way to our house from here" said Emmy
"Alright! But remember guys your Dad is still home and we don't want him to know we are their with the dragons" said Enrique
"So we have to be quiet" said Max in a whisper
"Don't worry I'm great at being QUIETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!" yelled Wheezie
"Not like that Wheezie" said Zak closing her mouth with his hand
"Come on guys lets go" said Emmy leading Cassie to her house
Max and Emmy's House
They arrived at Max and Emmy's house a couple of minutes later
They hovered high over the house to be avoid being seen until the decided to go inside
"Wait a second guys! How are we going to get the dragons inside? If we go through the front door Dad will notice and Ord and Zak and Wheezie won't fit through the play room window" said Max
"Uh Oh! I forgot to think about how to get them inside" said Emmy
"How can we get them inside?" asked Enrique
All the dragons and humans thought about it
An idea came to Cassie
"I know, we can use a portal to get through" said Cassie
"How?" asked Enrique confused
"We open a portal into Dragon Land, we fly through there then we open up a portal inside the house" explained Cassie
"That's brilliant! We can open a portal right into the play room!" said Emmy happily
"Yeah and no one will see us enter besides some one in Dragon Land maybe" said Enrique
"LOVVVEEEEEE ITTTTTTTT!!!!!!!" sang Wheezie
The Playroom
The children and dragons went through a portal into Dragon Land and then quickly opened up a portal into the play room
A bright portal made of swirling rainbow energy appeared in Emmy and Max's play room
Cassie carrying Emmy was the first to come through the portal slowly so that they didn't make any loud noises
Ord and Max came in next followed by Enrique and Zak and Wheezie
When they all came through they put their riders down and looked around
They looked at the room with toys, books, and other things scattered around it
The children had forgotten to clean it before they left
They saw the small table the children often drew on and the small window sill they sometimes looked out at
"Neat!" said Ord looking at the dragon wallpaper
"Wow it's as dirty as Wheezie's side of our room" said Zak
Wheezie opened her mouth wide for her usual LOOOOVVVVEEEE ITTTTT!!!!!. But before she could everyone said "SHHHH!!!" to tell her to be quiet
"Loveeee Itttttt!" said Wheezie quietly
"We better turn back to normal incase Dad shows up or we need to leave the room for a second" said Emmy
They all turned back to normal and began to inspect the room more closely
"This place looks odd for a cave" said Zak
"It isn't a cave" said Max slightly laughing
"Wait you mean you don't live in caves?" asked Ord amazed
"Yeah we live above ground, that's what those big buildings were for" explained Enrique
"So what do you think?" asked Emmy
"It's really nice" said Cassie before she reached down and grabbed a book of the ground that Max had been using as a truck ramp and looked at it
"Are these yours?" asked Cassie holding it up
"No they're the library's… wait a second…. Max I told you not to use library books for truck ramps" said Emmy
"Sorry" said Max who was with Ord showing him parts of the room
"What's this?" asked Cassie holding open the book to a world map
"That's a map of our world" said Emmy
"So this is what the human world looks like" said Cassie looking it over
"Yeah we're here" said Emmy pointing to the American west coast
"So your town is this big thing?" asked Cassie pointing to the whole country
Emmy gave a light chuckle "No that's the whole country, we're only a tiny little dot on that map" explained Emmy
"Oh I didn't know" said Cassie embarrassed to be wrong
"Wow your world is that big?" asked Zak looking at it
"Yeah" replied Enrique
"Um one question….. What's a country?" asked Wheezie
"A country is a certain area that is ruled by someone" said Enrique
"Oh! So it's like a kingdom!" said Wheezie
"Sort of" said Emmy
"Who is the king?" asked Cassie
"We don't have a king we have a president" said Emmy
"He rules the country?" asked Zak
"Yeah but he has to get permission to do stuff from other people, so even he can't do everything he wants" said Emmy
"So even your king needs permission to do stuff? Why does he need it?" asked Ord now coming over with Max
"So that if we don't agree with him about something we can stop him from doing it" explained Emmy
"Our Dad says the one right now is doing a bad job" said Max
"So Enrique you said you were from Colombia, where is that?" asked Wheezie
"Here it is" said Enrique pointing to Colombia
"Wow it's small compared to this place" said Ord
"What is the name of this place anyway?" asked Cassie
"America or the U.S." said Emmy
"I think I understand now" said Cassie
"I don't get it at all" said Zak
"Emmy could I borrow this?" asked Cassie
"Sure it should tell you more about our world" said Emmy
"This place is nice" said Ord
"Yeah it's a little small though" said Zak
"Well it was made for children and not dragons" said Enrique
Ord looked down at small Max and could tell the room was a lot more suited for him
"Want to play for a little while?" asked Max
"I thought we had do get going and see the rest of the town" said Zak
"If it's too quiet here our Dad will come and check on us so we should play for a while" said Emmy
"Alright! Ord want to see my trucks?" asked Max excitedly
"Sure" he replied happily
"I think I know what Zak and Wheezie will like" said Enrique
"Oh! What?" asked Wheezie
Enrique showed them the box Emmy and Max kept their instruments in
"Alright!" said Wheezie doing a back flip
"Emmy do you have any more earth books?" asked Cassie
"Yeah I'll show you" said Emmy going off to her room to get them
She returned a short time later and saw Ord and Max crashing his trucks into each other and Zak and Wheezie looking through the instruments
"Is there one here?" asked Wheezie while sorting through the book
"One what Wheezie?" asked Zak
"Max told me about a REALLY loud instrument called an electric guitar" said Wheezie
"Oh no! We aren't suppose to make too much noise and besides you're loud enough already" said Zak
"They don't have one" said Enrique
"Oh" said Wheezie disappointedly while Zak sighed in relief
Emmy saw Cassie at the window sill looking outside and went over to her
"Hey Cassie I got the books" said Emmy
"Thanks, I always wondered how you guys lived. We never got to see your world until now, it's so odd" said Cassie looking out the window at the human world
"It's fine for us" said Emmy putting the books down and sitting down with Cassie
"It's amazing it all looks so different from Dragon Land, there are no Do Re Mi birds, no Rainbow rivers, no fairies, no giants, no knucker holes, no one lives in a cave, all the trees only have ordinary leaves on them, and I haven't seen a single plant with a face yet" said Cassie
"We don't have things like that here" said Emmy
"It's just that I always imagined the human world was like Dragon Land only with humans, now I see it's very different than Dragon land" said Cassie
"Yeah it is a lot more boring than Dragon Land but it is our home so we don't mind it" said Emmy
"Hey what's this?" asked Zak behind them
They turned to see Zak with a bee on his claw
"That's a bee" said Enrique
Zak and Wheezie were shocked that this was a bee; it looked a lot different than a Dragon Land bee. It had weird eyes and it looked really ugly and it was all furry
"This is a bee! Get it off!" said Zak in a panic
"Calm down Zaky it's only a little grumbley bee" said Wheezie putting her face very close to it
"Um Wheezie don't…." Emmy tried to warn her
"Aw come on he's just a Bee, hi mister bee" said Wheezie happily
The bee flew onto her nose
"Wheezie…" Max tried to warn her
"Aw come on he's friendly" said Wheezie
Just then all Wheezie's talking startled the bee and it stung her
Wheezie was about to scream in pain when Zak covered her mouth
They could still hear her muffled scream as the bee flew off
All the dragons were shocked
"What did it do?" asked Cassie rushing over
"Ow! It hurts! It hurts!" said Wheezie in pain
"It stung her!" said Ord
"Why? They don't sting me in Dragon Land when I do that" asked Wheezie nearly in tears
"Yeah they just get annoyed" said Zak
"Not everything is safe in the human world, you can get hurt a lot easier here than in Dragon Land" said Emmy
"Really?" asked Ord
"Yeah I once got stung a few times too, they sting more often here" said Max
"Yeah and in Colombia there are a lot of dangerous bugs and other animals around" said Enrique
"Great! The human world is more dangerous than we thought" said Zak
"You just have to be careful about what you do with strange things, you can't assume everything and everyone is safe like in Dragon Land" said Enrique
"How can you live here?" asked Zak shocked they could stand it
"We grew up here so we know what to avoid, over time you'll learn too" said Emmy
"How does it look?" said Wheezie finally taking her hand off the spot where she was stung
There was a small bump on her nose with a stinger in it
"What's that?!" asked Zak in a panic at the stinger
"That's the stinger, we need to take it out" said Emmy
"Like a thorn?" asked Cassie
"Yeah, Cassie can you get it?" asked Emmy
"I'll try" said Cassie unsure taking out some tweezers from her pouch
"Be careful" said Wheezie
Cassie quickly removed it while Wheezie had her eyes shut
"Come on! Take it out!" said Wheezie with a tone of dread in her voice
"It's already out" said Cassie
Wheezie opened her eyes and saw the stinger
"Oh! It is" said Wheezie relived
A large red bump was now on Wheezie's nose
Wheezie looked down on it regretfully
"What's the matter I thought you liked looking silly" taunted Zak
Wheezie just gave him an angry growl
"Hey Cassie want to try the healing spell?" asked Emmy
"Ok this is a perfect time to practice it" said Cassie
"Think we can do spells regularly?" asked Emmy
"We can try" said Cassie
"Dragon Heal!" they both shouted at once
A pink energy heart appeared around Zak and Wheezie and it began to release sparkles
The red bump disappeared in seconds and the spell stopped
Emmy and Cassie slumped down from exhaustion
"Wow (Pant) that was (Pant) hard" said Emmy extremely tired
"Yeah" said Cassie breathless
"Using spells when you're normal must drain a lot of energy" said Enrique
"Can we stay here a little longer? I'm too tried to fly" asked Cassie
"Ok we can wait till they're rested" said Max
Enrique and Zak and Wheezie went back to trying the instruments while Max and Ord talked while Emmy and Cassie were resting
"So Max just what are these truck things?" asked Ord
"They're cars used for moving heavy stuff" said Max trying to explain
"Oh…. What's a car?" asked Ord
"It's something humans use to get around since we can't fly, I'll show you one later when we fly around town" said Max
"Are they scary?" asked Ord in a scared tone
"No" said Max reassuringly
"Good" said Ord relived
Suddenly they heard a deep rumbling sound
"What was that?!" asked Zak fearfully
"It sounded like thunder" said Wheezie
"It can't be it's bright outside" said Emmy looking outside
"Can it rain without clouds in the human world?" asked Wheezie
"No it can't" said Emmy
"That was my stomach, it's nearly time for lunch" said Ord embarrassed with a blush
"Lunch! We nearly forgot!" said Emmy standing up barely
"So..?" asked Max confused about his big sister making such a deal about lunch
"Dad will come up here to check on us and remind us about lunch!" said Emmy
"He'll see the dragons!" said Enrique in a panic
"We have to hide!" said Zak franticly
"Where? They're so big it's going to be hard to hide them" said Enrique
"They too big to escape out the window" said Max
"And we don't have enough time to transform" said Emmy
"We could try the closet!" suggested Enrique
"Good idea!" said Emmy
"It's dark in there!" complained Ord
"We don't have a choice" said Max
"Great we have to hide in a dark, cramped, dirty, smelly closet" complained Zak
"Just get in" said Enrique pushing him towards the closet
All the dragons reluctantly got in and Emmy shut the door
Thankfully it was just big enough for all of them although it was still cramped with all the toys and clothes in there
"Hey that's my nose!" said Zak in the closet
"Sorry I'm looking for a light switch, here's one!" said Wheezie
"That's my nose again!" said Zak
"Quiet" said Cassie
"Did you guys feel that?" asked Ord scared
"What?" asked Cassie
"Something touched me" said Ord fearfully
"That's me! You take up too much room" said Zak
"Quiet!" said Emmy hearing her father approach
The children quickly went over to various parts of the room and tried to look normal
Their father then opened the playroom door to find the children innocently playing
"Hola! Lunch is ready, come on down to eat. I made you favorites" said Max and Emmy's father
"Can we eat up here today?" asked Emmy
"Ok, just don't make a mess" said their father
"We won't" said Max
"What were you children playing up here before? I thought I heard a scream" asked their father concerned
Everyone froze at this question. Ord nearly gasped but Cassie put her hand over his mouth
Emmy thought about what to say and came up with an answer quickly
"Oh, it was nothing. A bee nearly stung me that's all, it missed though" said Emmy quickly to get rid of any suspicion
"Ok are you alright?" asked her father
"I'm fine" said Emmy
"Alright, now come and get your lunch" said their father before leaving
Everyone gave a relived sigh after he left
"We'll be right back, stay their until we say you can come out" said Emmy to the dragons who were still in the closet
"Yeah we'll eat with you up here before leaving" said Max
The children walked out of the room leaving the dragons in the closet
"Great, if this is the human world I don't like it that much. It's dangerous, scary, and we have to hide from everyone" complained Zak
"It'll get better, we just have to figure out this world like Emmy, Max, and Enrique figured out Dragon Land" reassured Cassie
"But they still don't know everything about Dragon Land, and they still get into trouble" said Zak
"So it'll be like how they first were in Dragon Land, now we'll know how they felt" said Cassie
"We never made them hide in a closet" muttered Zak
The children returned with their lunches a minute later
Emmy gave the signal to the dragons to come out when she made sure the coast was clear
The dragons tumbled out of the cramped closet onto the floor
"Well that was comfortable" said Zak sarcastically
They quickly got up and sat on the floor near the table the children were at with their lunches
Ord began taking out enough food to feed a third world country and began eating it a pace that would shame a sumo wrestler's while Cassie, Zak, and Wheezie ate their packed lunches at a much slower pace
He was done in a few seconds and looked over to see what Max had
Max's father had let him have some soda with his lunch instead of a juice box since they were out
Ord looked at the can and wondered what it could be; he had never seen a drink in a can before
What's that?" asked Ord motioning to the can
"That's soda" said Max
"What's soda?" asked Cassie
Max was confused by the fact Ord didn't know what soda was
"Oh yeah! They don't have any in Dragon Land" realized Max
"Is it a kind of juice?" asked Wheezie
"No it's probably a kind of milk" said Zak
"No it's a really fizzy drink and it tastes really good" said Max
"Fizzy? What do you mean by that?" asked Zak
"I'll show you" said Max with a mischievous smile
"Max…" said Emmy detecting her brother's silly side
She knew why Max wasn't allowed soda often
Max shook up the can and pointed it at Ord who just looked at it in anticipation
Emmy knew this was going to happen
He then opened it and let forth a spray of soda right at Ord's face (Who hasn't done this at one point or another?)
When it was over Ord was dripping with soda from the spray
"Cool! LOVEEEEE ITTTTTT!!!!!!" sang Wheezie at the mess a simple drink could cause here
"Great a drink that can spray you and make a big mess" said Zak annoyed beginning to wipe it up off the ground with a washcloth from his pouch
Ord quickly licked part of his face
"Mmmmm It is good!" said Ord
"I've never seen a drink like that" said Cassie
They had no soda in Dragon Land; they only had natural drinks and foods. But since a lot of snack foods grew on plants there they were considered natural
"How does it taste?" asked Wheezie
"I've never had anything like it" said Ord
Suddenly there was a knock at the door
Everyone's heart stopped on a dime
"Max what was that? Did you spray the soda again?" asked his father accusingly from behind the door
"Yes" said Max weakly
"We're cleaning it up" said Emmy quickly praying her father would not come in
"Ok but Max don't do it again" warned his father
"I won't" said Max
With that they heard Max and Emmy's father leave and walk downstairs
Emmy glared angrily at Max for a second as everyone else breathed a sigh of relief
He just gave an innocent shrug
"We have got to leave soon before I have a heart attack" said Zak
After they were finished with lunch they put the dishes down stairs and checked on their father
He was very busy with some work related paper work; they had seen him like this before. He would be so busy for hours straight a dragon could walk in front of him and he would never take his eyes off his work
They decided now was a good time to explore so they quickly headed back upstairs to the waiting dragons
All of them transformed into their dragon rider forms with the usual chant and flash of lights only now it was beginning to be less tiresome
"Ok now let's fly in the human world" said Cassie
"Be careful of planes" warned Enrique
"What are planes?" asked Zak
"Remember that thing that nearly hit Zak and Wheezie in the air?" asked Enrique
"Oh No!" said Zak remembering nearly being killed
"Well they're much faster than that and a lot bigger too" said Enrique
Zak just let out a scream
"Don't worry Zaky it'll all be A-OK!" said Wheezie optimistically
"Why doesn't that make me feel better?" asked Zak sarcastically
"Come on let's go!" said Emmy mounting Cassie
"!Vamanos!" said Enrique
They opened a portal into Dragon Land they went through there and opened another portal into the human world just outside their house
Outside
They reemerged outside the playroom window hovering a few feet off the ground
"We better get higher up so no one sees us just outside your house" said Enrique to Max and Emmy
They quickly flew up higher so it would be impossible to see them easily
Once they were high up they hovered and decided were to go
"So were do we go now?" asked Enrique
"Well we could show them some of our favorite places" suggested Emmy
"Like the park?" asked Max
"Yeah and maybe I could show Cassie the library" said Emmy
"Which first?" asked Enrique
"Let's try the park first, I heard there might be rain later so we should get there before it starts" said Emmy
"Ok to the park" said Enrique
"How do we get there?" asked Max
"Let's use the spell again" suggested Enrique
They took out their spell books and did the path finder spell
The map had changed and now it had a little house symbol on both Emmy and Max's and Enrique's houses
"Cool it must mark important places for us" said Emmy
"Think it can show us were the park is?' asked Max
As soon as he said it an arrow appeared on the map pointing in the direction the park was
"Alright now we won't get lost" Enrique
"Good! I don't think I would like to be lost in such a strange place" said Zak
"Let's go then" said Max showing Ord the map so he would know where to go
The Park
They arrived at the park a couple of minutes later thanks to their fast flying wings
The dragons looked down to see a patch of bright tree green surrounded by a lot of buildings on the ground
"Land here" said Emmy
The dragons landed in a dense part of the park were few people went since the woods were so thick it let in little open sunlight
Emmy chose the spot because it was so secluded no one would see the dragons
The park was very big with several open fields, a few sports areas, a paved square with a fountain that many people relaxed by, and a half decently sized area of thick woods
It was in the middle of an important commercial district with a lot of small shops around it
"Wow were did this forest come from? It's in the middle of the town" asked Zak
"I've never seen a forest surrounded by buildings before" said Cassie looking around amazed
"I've never seen one that was a perfect square before" said Ord remembering how that park's boarders were a perfect square from the air
"It's a park" said Emmy
"What's a park? Is it another scary thing?! Don't let it hurt me!" asked Zak in a panic putting on a helmet he kept in his pouch for Wheezie's crash landings
Emmy then remembered Dragon Land had no parks since it had many forests and few built up areas
"No it's safe, it's like a forest humans grow in cities" explained Enrique as best he could
"Humans grow forests? Why would they need to do that?" asked Cassie confused while Zak reluctantly took off the helmet
"There are not a lot of forests in human cities or towns since there are so many buildings so humans make parks so that people who live in towns or cities can relax in them and enjoy the trees and fresh air" said Emmy
"So it's like a really big garden?" asked Cassie
"Sort of…." said Emmy
"Good now I can pick some dragon berries. Where are the bushes?" asked Ord
"Um Ord…." began Max cautiously
He knew Ord would hate the news he was about to give him so he tried to break it as nicely as he could
"We kinda….don't um…..have any here in the human world" said Max cautiously
Ord made the greatest face Max had ever seen
"You don't have any dragon berries here?" Ord asked in a very shocked tone
Max just nodded
Ord then began to turn pale, really pale. Before they knew it Ord was invisible again like he was whenever he was scared
They suddenly heard a scream before they heard a loud thud on the ground
Max felt around until he felt Ord passed out on the ground
When Ord came into view again he was laying on the ground unconscious having apparently fainted
"Wow" was all Emmy could say at the scene
"You really don't have any here?" asked Zak
"Yup, Emmy told me earlier there are none here" said Cassie
"I guess we should have expected that" said Enrique
"Now we have to wait for him to wake up" said Zak annoyed
They waited around the spot until Ord came-to a few minutes later
Ord groggily sat up and looked at the others
"Ord are you ok?" asked Cassie with a concerned look
"Yeah I just had a horrible dream, Max told me there are no dragon berries anywhere in the human world. It was horrible!" said Ord
"Um that wasn't a dream Ord, it's the truth. There are none here" said Emmy
Ord let out another scream
"Oh No! This'll never last me all day!" said Ord with dread as he took out about five or ten bushes worth of dragon berries from his pouch and ate a few handfuls in a second
"Can we get going now, I don't want to get caught in the rain" urged Zak
"Ok but we have to avoid being seen" said Emmy
They walked through the woods until they reached some thick bushes near the paved square
The bushes made excellent cover for them to spy out into the open paved area
There were a lot of people hanging around the fountain as usual
Some were eating their lunches late, a few were just talking, some kids were playing near the fountain, a few street performers were doing their acts for the crowded square, some high school teens were skateboarding, and a group of teens were sitting around listening to a stereo they had brought
"Wow there are so many of them" said Cassie shocked at the number of humans
"Look over there some bigger kids are riding on those skateboard things Emmy had" said Ord watching one of the teens grind off the fountain's side before doing a kickflip
Another tried to do it too but he fell and landed hard on the pavement
All the dragons gave made a groaning sound as they saw him smash against the pavement with no helmet or pads
"Well that looks really dangerous" said Zak
"Awesome I want to try a skateboard too" said Wheezie not paying attention to the one who fell
Zak just went pale
"Who are those people?" asked Wheezie pointing to the street performers
"Those are street performers, they put on shows on the street or wherever there are people" said Emmy
"LOVVVEEEEE ITTTTT!!!!! I want to try!" said Wheezie
"We can't be seen remember?" reminded Zak
"Oh! Darn!" said Wheezie angrily
Suddenly the dragons were blasted with a strange loud sound
"Ahhhh! What is that?!" asked Zak
The teens had turned up the stereo and they were now blasting Yellowcard's Lights and sounds out of it at an insane volume just as it got to the first chorus
"THAT! SOUNDS! AWSOME!!!!!!" said Wheezie loudly
"That sounds horrible!!!!" yelled Zak
"That's punk rock, it's a type of human music that uses the electric guitar" explained Emmy
"It uses all the really loud human instruments" said Max
"LOVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE ITTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" sang Wheezie
Thankfully the teens were blasting the music so loud no one heard her
Then someone yelled for them to turn it down which they did…….. as soon as the song ended
They watched for a half-hour or so, the dragons would ask a question the children would explain as best they could
Eventually a lot of people left to go back to work or do something else
Emmy looked up and saw that the clouds were getting darker
"Guys I think we should leave, it looks like rain and I don't want to get caught in a storm high up" said Emmy
"Aw but we didn't get to play" said Ord
"Do you want to play in the rain?" asked Emmy knowing what they would say to that
"I would!" shouted Wheezie
"Well I don't, now let's leave before we get wet" said Zak
"Next we can go to the library, it's inside so we won't get wet" said Enrique
"Alright!" said Cassie happily
She wanted to see some more human books
"Let's go before it rains" said Max getting on Ord
"We better hurry, that sky is dark" warned Enrique
They quickly took off into the darkening sky
The Library
They arrived at the library before it began raining
It was a pretty big library that had a lot of books
It had two floors, a computer lab, a kids section that they had visited often, and a few quiet rooms were people went to read by themselves away from anyone else who might be there
Thankfully the second floor had big windows that opened so they snuck in through one of those right before a downpour started
"That was close" said Zak watching the rain fall out the window
They looked around to see if anyone was around
The library was mostly empty because few were out during the storm and the second floor was completely deserted
"Wow" said Cassie in awe at all the books
She had never seen a library this big before
She was beginning to notice humans always did things on a large scale
"There are so many books!" said Zak amazed at the unbelievable number of books on the many rows
"Let's look around, but don't get seen" said Emmy
The dragons looked around and skimmed through some of the books
Cassie didn't know what to read first, she was so curious and wanted to find out all she could but there was little time
"Hor…Horror" said Ord curiously at the Horror section "What's that?" he asked
"Those are scary stories" said Max
Ord quickly backed away
"I'll show you the sports section" suggested Max
Ord quickly followed
Enrique was showing Zak and Wheezie a book on music history
Wheezie was interested in the section on human Rock
Zak was disgusted mostly
"Wow I don't like this Rock stuff, I mean look at their costumes!" said Zak pointing to a picture of a rocker with long hair and many piercings
"I like them!" said Wheezie
Suddenly Enrique turned to a picture of Kiss
Zak nearly screamed and fell out of his chair at the sight of the rocker with horrible makeup, freaky hair, and a huge tongue whose name he did not know
"That is the coolest human I have ever seen!" said Wheezie
"That's because you haven't seen many!" said Zak
Meanwhile Emmy was with Cassie who had a stack of books as tall as Emmy and was busy looking through them
"Um Cassie…I think you have too many" said Emmy looking over at Cassie
Cassie looked embarrassed
"Sorry I just didn't know were to start, I got these from a bunch of different sections. Some of them I had no idea what they meant" said Cassie
She had no idea what science, Sci-fi, or politics meant but she took some of the books anyway
She was no combing through a book she had got from the history section that was American History
She was busy looking at the section on pilgrims
She thought it was odd how they would be so eager to leave their home for a strange place even though it was dangerous
It almost reminded her of what was going on now
She read the page on how they had problems adapting to the strange place and how they had help from the Indians who lived there before them
Cassie thought that maybe with Emmy and the others help her and the other dragons could learn to live with the human world too
She quickly began looking though the rest of the chapter
Meanwhile Ord was interested in an odd sign he had found on a wall
"Com..Put..Er" read Ord being unfamiliar with the word
"Do you mean a computer?" asked Max
"What's a computer?" asked Zak
"It's kind of hard to explain…" said Enrique unable to find words to describe a computer to someone who was unfamiliar with them
"It can do a lot of stuff like play games, tell you stuff, let you do work, and talk to people far far away" said Max
"One thing can do all that?" asked Cassie becoming interested
"Yeah it can tell you a lot more than any one book can" said Emmy
"Can we see one?" asked Ord
"Sure they have a computer lab for people to get onto computers" said Emmy
"But Emmy we aren't allowed to go on alone" said Max
"Oh yeah, I guess all we can do is show them what one looks like" said Emmy disappointedly
They went to the computer lab without being seen in the mostly empty library
It was a big room with many stations with a computer at each
"What are these boxes? And where are the computers?" asked Zak
"Those are computers" said Emmy
The dragons looked down at the small grey box with a black window in front of it
"These? How can a box do all that stuff?" asked Zak expecting a amazing machine instead of a box
The dragons began to examine the box
"They don't work if they aren't on" said voice behind them
Everyone's heart stopped
They hadn't checked to see if anyone else was there!
All the children dropped their hoods down to cover their faces
They quickly turned around to face whoever was behind them
Everyone turned to see a small kid with his back turned to them facing his own computer screen
"I'm guessing that you are ether from another world or you have been living in a cave to not know what a computer is or how to work it" said the boy his back still turned
"Both" said Zak
"Who are you?" asked Emmy fiercely as she drew her pink sword ready for anything that was about to happen
"It's common curtsey to give your name before asking another's and besides I was just trying to give you some advice since I saw your dragon friends having trouble with the computer, I couldn't understand what they were saying but I could tell they were curious about the computers. Let me guess you're the Dragon Riders half the city nearby is going ballistic over. I heard you did some real damage to those idiots who tried to rob the main bank and that you're some kind of super heroes" said the boy still typing away at the computer with his back turned
"Are you going to tell about us?" asked Max
"Na, I come across all sorts of strange stuff all the time and I know how to respect a secret. Besides it would do nothing for me to tell and I honestly don't care" said the boy
"Really?" asked Emmy
"Yeah" said the boy
"Who are you?" asked Enrique to this mysterious stranger
The boy swiveled on his chair to face them
His appearance was odd to say the least
The boy looked around ten years old based on his height, he was a little taller than Enrique. He had short, very messy, black hair that was extremely dark. He was white but his skin was pretty dark like he had been in the sun a lot
He wore black jeans with a wire sticking out of a pocket leading to his black backpack on the ground. He had on a black t-shirt and black skater gloves with some weird thin plastic boxes on the back of the hand. On his head was a well worn black cowboy hat with odd goggles just above the rim that had wires heading to the gloves. The wires looked like they went thought small slits that ran down his t-shirt, down his sleeves, and into the gloves
"I'm Brass Fang y'all; redneck, computer genius, and causer of mass chaos" he said in a southern accent to the stunned group tipping his cowboy hat to them
The entire group was at a loss for words
"What's a redneck?" asked Zak confused by his introduction
"I don't know" said Cassie
"We're the Dragon Riders" said Emmy trying to be polite
"So half the bank didn't lose the minds, there goes one fake media explanation" said Brass
"What are you doing here?" asked Emmy
"I should be asking that to you. What are you doing here with magical fire-breathing dragons that aren't supposed to exist?" he replied
"We were showing them computers but they don't understand how they work and we can't get on" said Emmy
"What are you doing?" asked Max suspiciously
"You know; chating, hacking, delivering viruses that cause people I don't like's computers to blow up. All the simple stuff" he said in a nonconcerned tone like it was basic stuff
"You mean you're a bad guy?!" asked Emmy drawing her sword again
"No…Yes…A little of both. I do bad things to bad people so I'm actually doing good things" he said
"Um… What?" asked Emmy confused by Brass's logic
"I cause bad things to happen to bad people like how you beat bad people up, You use fists and super powers and swords I use my insane hacking powers and high experience with all manner of explosives. We both do the same thing I just do it differently" said Brass
"So you're a good guy?" asked Max
"No just a bad guy who likes to stop and cause problems for other bad guys" said Brass
The children and dragons were now totally lost in Brass's logic
"Is he a good guy or a bad guy?" asked Ord
"I don't know" said Emmy
"This is hurting my brain!" complained Zak
"We're on the same side and I'll leave it at that" said Brass trying to put them at ease
"Um Ok" said Emmy unsure about what was going on
"So what's up you? What's with the dragons?" asked Brass calmly
He hardly seemed to find this situation odd at all
"We're superheroes… but we're kinda new to being superheroes and we're showing our dragons around the city to show them how humans live" said Max
"So you're showing them how humans live?" asked Brass
"Yeah we wanted to show them a computer but we can't get on" said Enrique
"I'll show them about computers and tell them a little bit about humans while I'm at it, I've been all over this country and have seen a lot so I know a lot about a lot of stuff" said Brass
He was confusing them again
"They can understand English right?" asked Brass
"Yeah they speak it in Dragon La….." Enrique stopped mid-sentence
He knew no one was suppose to know about Dragon Land
Brass knew he was hiding were the dragons were from but realized it was probably for a good reason
"Let me guess, were you got the dragons from is need to know info and I don't need to know?" asked Brass
The children just nodded
Brass just gave them an "I don't care" look and turned to his computer
"Alright here is one of the main uses for a computer it can send, store, and interpret data" said Brass
"What's that mean?" asked Cassie
"What does that mean?" Emmy translated to Brass
"It can be used to store millions of books worth of information, it can also be used to send info to people who want find out something" explained Brass
"So it's kinda like the big story book?" guessed Cassie
"Yeah a little" said Emmy
"It can also do the same thing with pictures or sound so you can look at pictures or hear music" said Brass
"So I could listen to any song I want and it'll play it?!" asked Wheezie excitedly
"Yes" said Enrique
"AWSOME!" said Wheezie happily
"How does it do that?" asked Zak
"It does it with something called the internet" said Enrique
"How can a net do that?" asked Ord
"Can you explain the internet for them?" asked Emmy to Brass
"Sure, it is a way to connect all computers in the world to each other with wires and cables. This allows the computers to "Talk" to each other and allow the person using the computer to find info on other computers" explained Brass
"I think I get it, if one computer doesn't know something it can talk to another to find it out" said Cassie
"Something like that" said Emmy
"I still don't get it" said Zak
"We can explain it some more in Drago… where we usually meet" said Emmy catching herself at the last moment
"It can also be used to talk to people far away by writing them e-mail" said Brass
"Is it like regular mail?" asked Cassie
"Yeah but they get it instantly instead of having to wait to get it" said Emmy
"Yes but be careful there are some bad and sick people on the internet that will hide who they are to do bad things" warned Brass
"What do you mean?" asked Max
"I'll show you" Brass said
He then put on his goggles, he took out another wire from his pocket, and he inserted the wire into the computer he was at
"What are you doing?" asked Emmy
"It's my own special system, these goggles have tiny computer screens in them and I have a miniature computer processor in my back pack. I use it for hacking since it can't be traced easily and it leaves little evidence" said Brass
"Cool!" said Max
"Yeah and look at this" said Brass
He flipped open the small plastic box on the back of his glove to reveal a small touch sensitive mouse pad like they had on laptops. He then took out a small black box from his pocket with all the wires going through it. He opened it and revealed it to be a fold up keyboard complete with a CD reader on the side
"Ok now let's just check my email for garbage" said Brass beginning to type away at his keyboard at an insane speed
No one could see what he was writing or seeing because the screen in front of his stayed the same
"Ok here's a good point, I just found a guy offering a chance to win a 6000$ computer and all he wants in my credit card number" said Brass thinking that he could probably get one of those pre-approved ones anyway
"What's a credit card?" asked Cassie
"It's like a card that promises someone you'll pay them back later if you don't have any money and you want to buy something" explained Emmy
"Yeah and this guy works for a company that sends all these emails that promise someone the chance to win stuff, but then they never send you anything and then they sell your credit card number to other people who can steal your money from you" said Brass
"So he's just like a thief?" asked Max
"Yes except he uses lies to get people to hand over their stuff so he can't be arrested. I'm going to make sure something even worse happens without even leaving my seat" said Brass
"How can you do that when he is so far away?" asked Cassie
"How can you do that?" forwarded Emmy to Brass
Brass just began typing away at his keyboard talking as he worked
"I'm gonnna send him a special treat" said Brass with an evil grin
"How's that bad?" asked Cassie
"How's that bad?" asked Emmy
"Trust me it is" said Brass
He then took out a CD from his backpack and inserted it into the keyboard
He then downloaded it and sent it to the man
Some office building in an undisclosed location
"Come on folks we need to sell that stuff!" shouted the floor manager at a company that scammed people
One guy working at his seat suddenly noticed he got another reply to the 6000$ computer email he sent out
He didn't find it odd at all that the envelop was blood red for some reason
When he opened the email his computer screen turned pitch black except for a skull and crossbones
Before anyone knew what was going on every computer on the floor displayed the same image before they all burst into flames
Library
Brass gave a light chuckle knowing what was going on
He then began to pack up
"Why do I get the feeling something happened and we aren't in on it" said Zak
"What are you doing?" asked Max seeing Brass packing up
"I don't stay long anywhere I leave a soon as I can to be hard to track" said Brass
"What about telling us about the human world?" asked Wheezie
"What about tell the dragons what you know?" asked Enrique
Brass then came up to the dragons
"Ok here are some very important this to know about this country so listen well!" said Brass
The dragons snapped to attention
"Ok 1# All the U.S. army is good for is putting big holes in small countries which I agree with totally 2# Never ever! Believe what is posted in newspapers and the most important is 3# Don't mess with Texas" said Brass
The dragons understood none of it
He then began to leave the room before they could ask a question
"Wait a second!" called out Emmy
Brass stopped as she went forward to him
"I was wondering, since we're both good guys and you already know about us how about you help us?" asked Emmy
"What?" asked Max confused by Emmy's request
"We could us someone who knows about computers, he could be really helpful" explained Emmy
Brass looked like he was deciding
"What the heck I've done weirder things" said Brass after he decided
He then handed a card to Emmy
"What's this?" asked Emmy looking at it
"That's a dummy site I set up; the only way to get to it is by that address. Just post a message on it and I'll see it and come running. Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go have some fun with a bull, some beer, and a thumbtack Yee-Ha!!! Adios!!!" said Brass
He then ran out the room leaving the group completely confused
"Now he was weird" said Emmy as soon as he left
"He's crazy!" said Zak
"At least if we do need his help we can get it" said Emmy looking at the card with address on it
"Hey the rain has cleared up!" said Ord pointing out the window
"Let's go and explore some more" suggested Max
"Ok, I still want to see a car" said Ord
"Let's show them the city" suggested Emmy
"Ok but we need to be careful, there are more people there" said Enrique
"Let's go" said Max
Airspace Over The City
They had left the library and were now flying high over the city
"The air smells again" complained Zak as they flew through the dirty city air
"That's air pollution" said Emmy
"Yeah Max told us, but what is it?" asked Cassie
"It comes from cars" said Emmy
"Cars cause to air to get dirty?" asked Zak
"Yeah they need gas to run and that makes smoke which makes the air dirty" said Emmy
"But we have smoke in Dragon Land too" said Ord
"Yeah but we have a lot more" said Emmy
"Really?" asked Cassie
"Look down, see all those moving dots on the ground?" asked Emmy
"Yeah so…? I've been seeing them all day" asked Ord
"Those are all cars and all of them make smoke" said Enrique
"Whoa! No wonder the air is so bad! We might as well put our heads over a fire and breath deeply!" said Zak looking at the huge amounts of moving dots
"What do cars do?" asked Wheezie
"Land and we'll show you" said Emmy
Alleyway
The dragons landed in a secluded alleyway that faced the street
The alleyway was very dark and no one would notice them unless they looked down it carefully
But that wasn't a big problem since the sidewalk near the alley was mostly empty
"Great another dark and dirty place for us to hide" complained Zak
"Look out there" said Emmy pointing to the street
The dragons saw a lot of big metal objects come roaring past them, they were all shapes and sizes and they road on wheels like bikes
"Those are some weird go-carts" said Wheezie
"Those are cars, they are like go-carts except they don't need to be pedaled or rolled down hills like regular carts. They use engines that run on gas so they can go very fast without a lot of work" said Emmy
"So those are cars" said Ord gazing at them as the went past at high speeds
"They're dirty and loud!" complained Zak
"Yeah but they're the only way we can get around since humans can't fly, so we don't have a choice but to use them and make the air dirty" said Emmy
"Can't you use those planes to fly?" asked Zak
"They're too big and expensive and they also produce more pollution than cars" explained Emmy
"Yeah and our Dad says he hates flying on plane" said Max
"Why?" asked Ord
"Something to do with lost luggage or something" guessed Max only barely remembering what he said
"Guys look!" said Enrique franticly pointing to the sidewalk on the other side of the street
They saw a man on the opposite side of the road pointing a gun at an old lady demanding her money
"We gotta help her!" said Ord
"It's superhero time" said Max getting on Ord
"This should be easy it's only one person with one little gun" said Wheezie
"What about being seen?" asked Zak
"We have disguises remember? And no one is going to recognize you since we're the only ones who know you exist and can find you" said Enrique
"Let's go before he hurts her!" said Cassie urgently
They took off into the air and headed at the robber
"Give me all your money NOW!!!" screamed the mugger to the terrified old lady
"I don't have any I just put it in the bank" begged the old lady
"Stop making excuses!!!" he screamed
Suddenly Ord came crashing down behind the mugger so hard he broke the pavement beneath him
The mugger turned to see the imposing figure of the giant blue dragon staring right at him with an angry look
"Stealing is not nice" said Ord bravely
All it sounded like to the mugger was roaring and growling which terrified him
He fired two shots from his nine into Ord's stomach but Ord's scales blocked the bullets and the clattered to the floor a second later
"Now that wasn't nice" said Max coming into the mugger's view riding on Ord's neck
Max jumped off Ord's neck and drew his sword
He slammed his massive blue blade downward striking the robber on the head and knocking him to the ground
The mugger was out cold on the pavement in front of the old lady who stared at Ord for a second fearfully
Suddenly the rest of the group landed behind Ord
"Who are you?" asked the old lady
"We're the Dragon Riders, we're the good guys" said Emmy to calm the woman down
"Thank you so much for saving me" said the old woman gratefully
"No problem" said Enrique
"We're happy to help" said Max
"Definitely" said Emmy giving her a thumbs up
"We have to go now bye!" said Enrique as they flew off
"Well that's not so bad, if all we have to do is that then this being Dragon Riders thing might not be so bad" said Zak as they were flying
"Yeah and now we can visit Emmy, Max, and Enrique like they can visit us" said Wheezie happily
"With their help and with help from other nice people in this world like Brass it'll be like the pilgrims. We will learn to live in this new world" said Cassie
"We better head home now we've been gone for a while" said Emmy
"Yeah mom will be home soon" said Max
"Yeah but let's agree to meet up as soon as we can" said Enrique
All of them agreed and began to head back home

Chapter 9: Training
The Dragon Riders go to Dragon Land to practice their fighting skills but how will their friends react when they see what they have become and what they can do. Will they adapt to it or will they become jealous or even fear them? Also the children learn some very useful spells including on that will let them sneak away with being noticed by their parents.
