Chapter 9: Training
I t had been a couple of weeks since the dragon's first visit to the human world
They had made many shorter trips since then to stop some light crimes and explore a little more
The Dragon Riders were beginning to get noticed a little, most still thought people who reported seeing them were either crazy or they were seeing things. But since the bank was not a isolated incident people were giving more credit to their existence
The trips were kept a lot shorter than their trips to Dragon Land because of the fact they now had to work in real time not Dragon Land's warped time
There had been several close calls and the children were getting more tense with each trip
The children knew they had to find some way to get away unnoticed or else things would only get worse
The dragons had their own problems as well
The fact that they were Dragon Rider Dragons had been kept secret throughout Dragon Land to avoid causing the children a hard time and to keep people from remembering what happened to dragons in the human world
But some of the students at the School in the Sky were noticing that whenever the human children called Ord, Cassie, Zak and Wheezie; Quetzal would let them out of school even if they were in the middle of a lesson. They would leave for a short time, twenty to thirty minutes at most and they would come back looking tiered and they would have minor cuts, scratches, and other wounds on them. They asked Quetzal why he let them leave and what they were doing but he told them it was a secret and they shouldn't ask about it.
Some of the dragons were a bit jealous because of the fact they got to miss school even though most of the classes were fun (It's a preschool). But some were just curious about what in Dragon Land they could be doing to get hurt like that? They asked Ord, Cassie, Zak and Wheezie but they got no answers from them and usually they hardly kept any secrets
At the same time rumors began to fly around Dragon Land of some things called "Dragon Riders". The dragons also began to notice that a strange energy had appeared in several parts of Dragon Land, anyone who went past the strange forest were the hidden cave was felt an odd sensation. This fueled many rumors that odd things were happening in Dragon Land. The adult dragons had no idea what was going on and they were worried, they had suspicions that Quetzal the wise teacher knew what was going on but he was not telling to protect the children. The Dragon Riders weren't too worried about this rumor until they heard someone had said it might be connected to the children that had visited Dragon Land so many times. Thankfully Quetzal had put the rumor down by pointing out that they had visited many times and nothing happened. Still the situation was not good in both worlds, and it was stressing the children and dragons
Thankfully Quetzal said he had finally found the spell to help the children sneak away from their parents… and school if necessary. He told the dragons to call the children so they could work on the spell
Playroom
Max, Emmy, and Enrique were lounging around the playroom trying to decide what to do for fun
"I'm bored" complained Max
"Same here" said Emmy
"How about a trip to Dragon Land?" suggested Enrique
"Sure!" said Max happily
"That's a great idea!" said Emmy
"Yeah we can go there to play and not have to worry about doing Dragon Rider's stuff" said Max
He and the rest of the children were getting kinda tired with all the work that had to do as Dragon Riders
They had stopped several muggings, a carjacking, three street fights, and had saved several people from getting hit by cars on a particularly bad street with a broken crossing sign that the city was too cheap to fix in the last two days alone
And almost every time they went to Dragon Land they had little time to play because of the other dragons asking questions
They needed a break
"I'll get the scale!" said Emmy happily running over to the secret drawer
She opened it to reveal the scale box and their spell books
She grabbed all of them
"What are doing? We don't need our spell books" said Max confused as to why she was getting them out
"I'm bringing them in case we do need them and besides I want to see if there are any spells that we can use for other things than fighting" explained Emmy
"Ok I guess" said Max not wanting to get delayed by talking anymore
"Let's hurry!' urged Enrique
Emmy held out the scale to Max and Enrique
They grabbed on
"I wish I wish with all my heart to fly with dragons in a land apart" chanted the children in unison
The dragons that lined their playroom walls came to life and flew around the children at high speed
In a flash of green light they were gone
Dragon Land
Cassie had the dragon scale in her hand and was about to call the children when suddenly they appeared behind her
Ord quickly reacted in his natural way
"Max, Emmy, Enrique you're here!" he yelled happily as he ran toward them
He quickly grabbed all of them and lifted them off the ground with a huge dragon hug
"Nice to see you too Ord" said Max in a strained voice nearly being crushed
"Can you put us down now?" asked Enrique being crushed as well
"Sorry" he said embarrassed with a blush
Ord put them down and Cassie walked over to them
"Hi guys! I'm glad you're here, Quetzal wants to talk to us" said Cassie
"What for?" asked Emmy
"It had to do with our work as Dragon Riders" explained Zak
The children let out a groan of annoyance
"Aw man! We came here to play not work" complained Max
"What's it about?" asked Enrique
"He says he found a way for you guys to sneak away to do Dragon Riders stuff" said Zak
"He has! Great now we can go for longer times and maybe we'll be able to go to the human world to have fun once in a while!" said Emmy happily
"We better hurry and meet him!" said Zak
With that they mounted up and took off for The School in the Sky
Dragon Land Sky
The dragons were heading to The School in the Sky when Emmy asked about how were things in Dragon Land
"So Cassie what's been going on with those rumors?" asked Emmy concerned
"They've gotten worse lately. The other kids are suspicious of what we are doing when we leave school during class" answered Cassie
"I wish you wouldn't call us in the middle of class" complained Zak
"It's not our fault we get out earlier than you" replied Enrique
"They've been asking us about it all week" said Wheezie
"Yeah and I don't like not telling the truth to our friends" said Ord
"And I don't like leaving class" said Cassie
"Hopefully this way to sneak out will let us choose when we can go to the human world. That way we can chose a time that is good for both of us" said Emmy optimistically
"Yeah" agreed Max
"That's not all that has got us worried, the adults are starting to talk about Dragon Riders and about the strange forest" said Cassie in a worried tone
"Yeah those along with the rumors at The School in the Sky have us worried. What if someone realizes they are connected? We'll be exposed!" said Zak in his usual depressing tone
"Zaky you worry too much!" said Wheezie in a carefree tone
"One of us has to" muttered Zak under his breath
"Still what's the worst that could happen if we're found out here?" asked Wheezie not hearing that last comment
"The other kids could treat us like ….Oh I don't know FREAKS!" screamed Zak
Wheezie was unable to reply
"Calm down no one is going to figure it out" said Enrique trying to lighten the mood Zak had just depressed
"Yeah it'll all be ok" said Max
"Really?" asked Cassie
"Definitely!" said Emmy confidently to Cassie
"Even if they did find out I'm sure they would understand" said Max
"Yeah they are your friends" said Enrique
"You're right!" said Ord happily
"What if they're wrong! It'll be a disaster!" screamed Zak "We'll be freaks, monsters, outcas…." Zak was cut off by Wheezie shutting his mouth with her hand
"How about we change the subject?" she said sternly to Zak
"Cassie I brought our spell books with me" said Emmy to change the subject
"Why?" she asked
"So we can see if there are any spells that can be used for other things besides fighting" explained Emmy while she took them out
"What kinds of things?" asked Cassie
"I don't know, we'll have to see what we come up with" said Emmy
"Well I know something we can use the double beat spell for" said Wheezie
Zak could tell what she was planning by the sound of her voice
"Oh no! You're not using that spell! I'll be sick from you running around at super speed" warned Zak
"Come on I just want to see how fast I can move!" begged Wheezie
"Too fast" answered Zak
"I'm sure some of the spells might be fun to use" said Enrique
"How can launching scary lightning be fun?" asked Ord
He was too scared to use any spells since the lightning spell had scared him
"I'm sure the rest of the spells are better Ord, we just have to try them" said Max
They had not tried any new spells since Sage's place so they had no idea just what they did
"Yeah some of the spells must be useful even when we are not fighting" said Emmy
While everyone was distracted Wheezie was getting ready to try and take her and Zak's book out of Emmy's hands so she could cast double beat
"Maybe some of the spells can be used to play with" suggested Max
"There must be something" said Emmy as she was looking through her own spell book paying no attention to the other spell books
Wheezie saw her chance and took it
She quickly grabbed the green and purple spell book out of Emmy's hand
"What the!" asked Emmy shocked as Wheezie snatched it from her
"Oh No! Wheezie!" screamed Zak in horror as Wheezie opened it up
"Double Beat!" shouted Wheezie
A bright rainbow colored aura covered Zak and Wheezie as a fast paced song played
Zak put on a helmet and waited to die
Enrique put on a death grip on Zak and Wheezie
They took off like a rocket through the peaceful Dragon Land sky Zak screaming at the top of his lungs all the way
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" he screamed as they fly over the horizon
They left Cassie and Ord miles behind them
A Crater Near The School in The Sky
Zak opened his eyes groggily
Everything was blurry
All he could see was white soft clouds
He quickly came to a conclusion
"This must be heaven so than means I must be dead" he said quietly and at peace
"Wow dying hurt less than I expected" he said calmly
He began to relax and watch the clouds go by and listen to the peace and quiet
"At least it's nice and quiet and cal…" he was cut off by a scream
"Zaky!" someone yelled breaking his peace and quiet
Suddenly he could see his sister's blurry face looking down at him
"Oh no Wheezie is here! It's the other place!" he screamed
"Zak snap out of it!" said Wheezie
Suddenly Zak came back to full conciseness and his vision cleared
He realized he was lying on his back starring up at the sky in a big hole in the ground
Enrique was in the hole lying on the ground near them
"Oh what a trip, es muy rapido" said Enrique groggily holding his head as he began to get up near Zak and Wheezie in the big hole
"What happened?" asked Zak holding his aching head as he slowly got up
"I think I went over board with the speed spell" said Wheezie embarrassed
"YA THINK!" screamed Zak angrily
"Calm down" said Enrique to Zak as he began to take a look at the situation
He saw that they were in a big hole in a empty Dragon Land field pretty close to were the school's playground was
"Where did this hole come from? I don't remember it" asked Wheezie
"It's not a hole it's a crater!" said Enrique shocked
"Oh!...What's a crater?" asked Wheezie
"It's a big hole made by big stuff hitting the ground hard" explained Enrique
"What made it?" asked Wheezie innocently
Zak just took out a mirror and showed it to Wheezie
"Us?" asked Wheezie getting the message
"Yes!" screamed Zak
"Wow…what a hole" said Wheezie looking at how big the crater was
"We must have hit really hard!" said Enrique
"We could have died Wheezie!" screamed Zak
"How did we survive?" asked Enrique thinking there was no possible way they could have survived that crash
He looked down to see if he was hurt
He was shocked when he saw he was in his Dragon Rider cloak
He quickly turned to Zak and Wheezie
They were also in their Dragon Rider forms
"Guys we transformed!" he said
"What?" they asked
They looked down to see they were in their Dragon Rider forms
"How?" asked Zak "We never said the spell or did anything"
"All we did was hit the ground REALLY hard" said Wheezie
"That might have been what triggered it" said Enrique
"What?" asked Zak "How can us crashing into the ground and nearly dieing have triggered it?"
"We let's see, when we were flying with the others we were normal" said Enrique
"Yeah since we don't want to get seen as Dragon Riders in Dragon Land" said Wheezie
"Yeah, so we were flying when Wheezie used that spell and sent us flying so fast we crashed. We would have died if we weren't in our Dragon Rider forms so I guess that we transformed to keep us from dieing" said Enrique
"So whenever we are about to die as our regular selves we transform so we don't die" guessed Zak
"That's awesome!" said Wheezie happily
"Yeah but I still don't like nearly dieing" said Zak coldly
The School In The Sky
The young student dragons were hanging outside the school after class
They were all talking about how Quetzal had called Ord, Cassie, and Zak and Wheezie up to the front of the class and whispered something to them. They looked excited and then left right in the middle of class! This was begging to get common, they would get a call and Quetzal would let them right out of class
This worried a certain red, wheelchair bound, flightless dragon
Lorca was worried about what his friends were doing a lot especially since it appeared as though every time they left they came back covered in scratches and other boo boos
He had asked them about it but they didn't tell him anything
He wasn't too upset about them not telling him but it had him worried since they were his friends and he didn't want to see them hurt
'What could they be doing?' he wondered 'They keep getting hurt when they leave and Quetzal won't stop them from going. Are they doing something for Quetzal? What could they be doing for him that is that dangerous?'
Lorca sat near the entrance to The School in the Sky thinking about what was going on when he heard some of the other dragons around him get excited
He looked and saw they were all talking franticly and pointing and looking at something in the sky
He turned to look in the direction they were looking
He saw a bright purple and green blur come flying past the School in the Sky at high speeds. It crossed the sky and looked like it crashed in a field nearby with a loud BANG
"What was that?" one dragon asked
"Is that a shooting star?" asked another
"Impossible they don't come at during the day" said another
"It was a meteor!" said another dragon
"Someone should tell Quetzal!" said another dragon
Lorca sat there and watched the scene unfold
'That's odd, most meteors don't get that low and they aren't purple OR green. Could this have something to do with what is going on in Dragon Land?' he wondered
Lorca was about to turn to ask his friends, he couldn't see them around
He then realized they were still gone
That concerned him
With all that was going on he was even more worried that something bad was going on
'Something is going on here' he thought suspiciously 'For some reason I think that meteor has something to do with what my friends are hiding. I'm going to find out what is going on and how it concerns my friends'
With that he headed off in the direction of the crash site
Crash Site
"Yeah but I still don't like nearly dieing" said Zak coldly
Suddenly they all heard someone call out
"Who is there?" shouted someone
Enrique and Zak and Wheezie froze on the spot
Someone was coming and they were transformed!
Enrique made a sign to be quiet to Zak and Wheezie before he slowly crawled up the side of crater to see who it was
He peeked out for a second to see Lorca rolling up to the hole
He stopped and looked at the hole for a second as though he was scared to approach
Enrique went back down
"It's Lorca" he whispered
"What's he doing here?" asked Wheezie
"Who cares, if he sees us he'll know what we are!" whispered Zak stressfully
"If we transform he'll see the light" whispered Enrique
"How are we going to get out!" whispered Zak agitatedly
Wheezie thought about how the hole reminded her of a large knuker hole
Then she thought about all the times she and Zak had come flying out of their knuker hole and landed a few feet away
Then an idea came to her
"I got an idea" she whispered excitedly
"What?" asked Zak
"Just hold on and get ready, this is going to be a blast!" said Wheezie
Zak did not like the sound of that
Wheezie motioned for Enrique to get on
He quickly did not wanting to be on the receiving end of a bad idea
Wheezie got out the spell book and pointed out a spell to Zak
Lorca was getting closer and time was running out
Zak looked at the spell with horror but knew they were out of time
They looked directly down and prepared to try the plan
"Do Re Mi Blast!" they said as softly as they could
Lorca who was near the hole was certain he heard something moving in the crater
As he got closer he suddenly heard something odd
He heard a Do note followed by a Re note
"What's that?" he asked wondering what was making that sound
Zak and Wheezie pointed at the ground and fired the spell
It hit the ground and caused a massive explosion, blowing them clear out of the crater
Lorca couldn't see them because of all the smoke and dust kicked up by the blast, well that and taking cover from the blast
Enrique held on as Zak and Wheezie were blown from the crater with great force
Just as how they had done many times before from their knuker hole Zak and Wheezie did a back flip in mid-air and came back down
They landed on the ground behind Lorca and quickly transformed back to their regular selves
The dust and confusion easily covered their transformation
When the smoke and dust cleared Lorca was on the ground from taking cover from the blast
"What was that?" he asked in shock at what had just happened
He had never seen and real explosion before let alone one that close
Enrique quickly ran up to him
"Lorca are you ok?" he asked concerned he was hurt
"I'm fine, help me up" he said
Enrique helped Lorca up into his chair
"Woo that was a doozy of a blast" said Wheezie
"Yeah, hey what are you guys doing here!" Lorca asked suddenly
"We came to see what that blast was" said Zak
"Yeah we were nearby anyway" said Wheezie
Technically they didn't lie they were nearby
"What happened?" asked Enrique to throw off suspicion
"I was going to check out a meteor that landed near here, when I got close I heard noises and panicked. Soon as I got closer though it just blew up!" said Lorca
"Weird!" said Enrique
"Yeah it sounds like something from one of those space monsters movies you told us about Enrique" said Wheezie
"Mo… Mo… Monster!" screamed Zak
"Should we check out the hole?" asked Lorca
"NO!" screamed Zak in fear
"Maybe he's right? I don't think it's a smart idea to get close to it" said Enrique
Lorca had second thoughts too after seeing how they were afraid as well and after the explosion he didn't want to get too close either
"I guess you're right, maybe we should tell Quetzal about it" suggested Lorca
"Good idea! We need to talk to him anyway" said Enrique happy to get away from this mess
Enrique and Zak and Wheezie felt guilt about lying to their friend but they knew they had to keep the Dragon Riders a secret
Unfortunately that didn't make them feel any better
"So where were you guys?" asked Lorca as they began to head to The School in the Sky
"Um nowhere" said Wheezie in an unconvincing tone
'They're hiding something from me again' thought Lorca suspiciously
"We were busy…um…doing something" said Zak hastily
Dragons weren't good liars
"So what are you going to talk to Quetzal about?" asked Lorca knowing they were up to something
"It's kind of a secret" said Enrique hating having to keep Lorca in the dark about what was going on
Dragons being nice by their very nature were deeply hurt by lying and keeping secrets
"Oh…I see" said Lorca disappointed
"I wonder were Emmy, Max, Cassie, and Ord are?" asked Enrique
"They're not with you?" asked Lorca
"No we got…separated" said Enrique
"I'll say" said Zak looking at Wheezie angrily
The School in the Sky
Enrique, Lorca, and Zak and Wheezie arrived at The School in the Sky a little while later
As they approached Enrique could see that the others were already there
"Enrique, Zak and Wheezie! Are you alright?" asked Emmy worriedly as she ran to greet them with the others
"We're fine" said Enrique
"Wow I thought you'd go spat after that" said Ord
"After what?" asked Lorca
The others now noticed Lorca was with them and knew he couldn't know about what had happened
"Um… nothing" said Emmy quickly
'They're doing it again' thought Lorca
"So guys where is Quetzal?" asked Max to change the subject
"He should be inside" said Lorca
Just then Quetzal appeared in the school doorway
"Hola ninos!" he greeted them happily
"Hola Quetzal" they replied
"Quetzal we're here about…you know what" said Max
Quetzal looked at Lorca and knew why he couldn't say it
"Ok come on in" said Quetzal
"What's going on Quetzal?" asked Lorca
"I am helping Emmy, Max, Enrique, Cassie, Ord, and Zak and Wheezie with something" he said to Lorca as the others went inside
"Can I help?" Lorca asked eagerly
"Sorry but it is just for them, will you please stay outside?" asked Quetzal
"I will" said Lorca disappointedly
He wasn't about to disobey a teacher
Quetzal then headed inside the school where the others were waiting to find out about the spell
Inside The School in the Sky
The children and dragons were inside the school sitting at a table as Quetzal walked over to them
"I assume you know why we are here" said Quetzal
"Yeah we're here to learn a spell to sneak out from our house to do stuff as the Dragon Riders in the human word" said Max
"Si, me and Sage have found an old Dragon Rider spell that should be perfect" said Quetzal
"Alright!" said Max happily
"How does it work?" asked Enrique
"I shall show you, I will ask all of you to go to different corners and not look at each other. When I tell you to turn back you shall see what it can do" explained Quetzal
"Ok" said Emmy unsure what was going on
The dragons and children all went to separate corners and looked at the wall to avoid seeing anything
Quetzal went up to Cassie and taped her on the shoulder
"Huh?" asked Cassie confused
Quetzal motioned for her to be quiet
"Cassie say this spell and leave the school" he instructed her
He gave her a piece of paper with a spell on it
Cassie quickly complied
"Forget me not" said Cassie quietly reading the spell out loud
She noticed nothing was different and wasn't sure the spell worked
"Good now leave until I call you back in, you may listen at the door" instructed Quetzal
Cassie left the school as quietly as she could
She opened the door slowly and stepped outside
She saw that Lorca was gone
She the turned and shut the door slowly
As soon as she was outside Quetzal gave the signal to turn around
"Ok you can turn around now" said Quetzal
The children and dragons turned around and walked to the center of the room
"The spell is now working" Quetzal said
The children and dragons began to look around
The all noticed…nothing was different
"What did it do? I don't feel anything" said Max
"Are you sure? Do you notice anything missing?" asked Quetzal playfully
They all looked around to see if anything was missing but they could find nothing was gone
"Aw man the spell didn't work!" said Max disappointedly
"Yes it did" said Quetzal
"Well I don't see anything" said Zak
"Do you notice anybody missing?" asked Quetzal playfully
Emmy quickly looked around and looked at everyone who was in the room
Quetzal, Max, Enrique, Ord, and Zak and Wheezie; no one was missing
"No one is missing Quetzal" said Emmy
Quetzal let at a light chuckle at the charade
"Are you sure?" he asked playfully
"Yeah" said Emmy
"Emmy who do you ride on when you fly?" asked Quetzal
"That's easy it's…it's…" Emmy stopped suddenly
She couldn't remember!
"You don't remember!" asked Max shocked
"Yeah that's easy!" said Wheezie shocked she could forget
"Yeah it's…it's…I can't remember!" said Zak shocked
"Nether can I!" said Max
"I can't too!" said Enrique
Emmy thought as hard as she could
'Who is it! Why can't I remember?' she thought frustrated
Suddenly a picture of a small pink dragon popped into her head
She was certain the dragon looked familiar
'Who was that? And why did she seem so familiar?' thought Emmy
Then the picture showed up again this time she was flying on the back of the dragon
'She's the one who is missing! But who is she?' she thought
Another picture showed up, this time she was playing with the dragon
She thought as hard as she could and nearly had the name to go to that dragon
'Ca…Cassidy? Caitlin? Cassy? Cas…? Cassi…? Cassie? Cassie!' she finally remembered
The dam that was holding back her memories burst
It all came back to her
"Cassie is missing!" she yelled finally remembering
This quickly caused the other dragons to remember
"Oh yeah Cassie!" said Ord as it came flooding back to him
"How could we forget!" said Enrique
"It is called the forget me not spell" said Quetzal
"Where is Cassie?" asked Emmy
"Don't worry she is only outside the door" said Quetzal
Quetzal then called for Cassie to come back inside
"Cassie you can come in now" called Quetzal
Cassie who had been at the door listening to all of this came back inside
"Wow you guys really forgot about me" said Cassie amazed at what the spell had done
"Yeah it was weird" said Ord
"How did we forget?" asked Zak
"As I said it is called the forget me not spell. It causes everyone to forget about you for a limited time. They can think all they want they shall never remember or even notice they have forgotten someone until someone points it out like I did" explained Quetzal
"How come Emmy remembered then?" asked Max
"She and Cassie share a heart and soul, people who are linked this way can't forget about each other" explained Quetzal
"Alright!" said Max happily "Now we can just cast this spell and Mom and Dad will never notice we're gone even if they walk into the playroom"
"Yes but be careful this isn't foolproof, it can still come undone if certain things happen" warned Quetzal
"Ok" said Emmy
"Great now we can chose when we want to leave, this means we don't have to call the dragons out of class so no one will suspect anything" said Enrique
"Loveeeeeeeee itttttttttt!" sang Wheezie
"Ugh, can I forget about Wheezie?" asked Zak annoyed
Quetzal just nodded no
"Great we have a new spell and now we can go play" said Max happily
"No quiet ninos" said Quetzal
"What?" asked Max
"I had also set up some targets for you to practice your Dragon Rider moves on" said Quetzal
"Aw Man!" said Max disappointed
"Sorry but it is important that you practice your moves so you can survive" said Quetzal
"Great more work" said Zak sarcastically
"Sorry ninos, now all we have to do is get Lorca to leave so we can practice outside" said Quetzal
"He already left" said Cassie
"Good, now come on ninos let's go outside" said Quetzal
All of them went outside to practice
Outside The School in the Sky
Lorca watched as everyone went into The School in the Sky
'They are doing something and I'm going to find out what' thought Lorca
He had a plan, he would hide outside The School in the sky and wait for the others to come out and see what he could find out
He hid off to the side of the school so he wouldn't be seen and he could easily see the front door by peering around the corner
For a few minutes there was nothing
Then suddenly Cassie came out of the school
She looked confused about something
"I hope this works" said Cassie to herself
'What is she doing?' wondered Lorca
Cassie then put her ear to the door so she could listen to whoever was inside
'Why didn't I think of that?' thought Lorca
Cassie stood there listening for a while
Lorca couldn't hear what was going on inside but Cassie could
"So that's what it does!" said Cassie after she realized what was going on
'What does what?' wondered Lorca
"Come on Emmy remember" said Cassie encouragingly as Emmy tried to remember her name
'Remember what? Is Cassie trying to spy on them too?' wondered Lorca
"Yeah!" said Cassie happily as she heard he name called out by Emmy
'What is going on?' thought Lorca frustrated due to the fact he had no idea what they were doing
Lorca then clearly heard Quetzal calling Cassie's name
Cassie went back inside leaving Lorca with no answers
"This is confusing" said Lorca out loud
Another minute passed until all everyone came out of the school
Quetzal lead them to the field in front of the school
He then cast a spell and the targets they usually used for fire breathing practice appeared
'What are they doing with those?' wondered Lorca
"Ok ninos these targets can be destroyed over and over again so you can practice all you want" said Quetzal
"Alright now I can practice some sword moves without breaking anything" said Max happily
He had tried to do a cool move he had seen in game but had accidentally sliced a car in two
H hadn't told anyone about that
Lorca heard what Quetzal had said about practicing
'What are they going to practice? Fire breathing? And what was Max talking about with sword moves?' he speculated
"Ready guys?" asked Emmy to the others
"Yeah!" said Max
"Let's do it!" said Enrique
"Here we go again" said Zak
"Let's rock!" said Wheezie
"Ok!" said Ord
"I'm ready!" said Cassie
The children and dragons paired up and put their hands together
Lorca just watched in confusion
"Dragon Heart!" they all shouted
Lorca watched in amazement as his friends lit up light a rainbow
He had to cover his eyes the light was so bright
When the light wore down Lorca looked to see an amazing site
His friends had changed into their Dragon Rider forms
He saw their long claws, scaly wings, and deeper color scales
He also saw the children had changed as well
They now were adorned in colored cloaks
'What the…!' he thought in shock
'They transformed! What are they?' he thought
A million questions ran through his mind
"Ok ninos each of you shall take turns practicing your moves while the others get clear" instructed Quetzal
"Me first!" said Max as he ran up
Everyone else went off to the sidelines to avoid any mishaps
"Dragon Blade!" Max shouted
Lorca watched as a giant blue sword appeared on Max's back out of nowhere
Max quickly took it out and got ready
Max ran forward at high speed and jumped high into the air
He came down directly on the center target
The target was sliced in half and a blue shockwave spread out from the point of impact blowing all the other targets away
Lorca's eyes grew wide at the display of destruction
"Wow not bad Max!" said Emmy
"Like it? I call it the Dragon Strike" said Max
(Basically Cloud's braver with a slight modification)
Max went down and Enrique went up
He took out his swords the way Max had
Enrique quickly spun the purple one around and threw it at a target
The blade kept it's momentum and flew forward and sliced the target in two like a buzzsaw
The blade then acted like a boomerang and flew back to Enrique
"Awesome!' said Max
"Cool it's like a boomerang!" said Wheezie
Enrique then tried to do both at once
He spun them around and threw them both at the targets
The hit two targets and sliced them in half
They then began to fly back but something went wrong
Enrique caught one but the other changed course and went past him
It flew towards the others
It stuck into the wall inches above Zak's head
Zak immediately ducked and screamed
"It's called the Strike Raid. Do you like it?" asked Enrique
"It could use some work" said Zak angrily as he got up off the ground
"I guess" said Enrique embarrassed
He then went over to the wall and pulled the blade out
Quetzal quickly fixed the hole with a repair spell
Lorca was in absolute shock at what he was seeing
He didn't know what to think about the fact he was seeing his nice, friendly, gentle friends practicing fighting!
He was so confused
He didn't know weather to leave and go home and act like he hadn't seen anything or stay and watch
He stayed because he didn't want to be caught by them after seeing what they could do
"OUR TURN!" shouted Wheezie as she ran up dragging Zak with her
The targets had been fixed already and were set up again
"What should we do?" asked Wheezie
"I want to practice with my dragon breath, I missed that mugger yesterday by a mile" said Zak
"Ok! And I'll practice mine too!" said Wheezie
'They're just going to practice fire breathing?' thought Lorca expecting something a lot more impressive after what the children had done
He was in for a big surprise
Zak and Wheezie then turned to look at the targets
They were just sitting their at a medium range
"Aw this is going to be too easy" said Zak
"I think I can fix that" said Quetzal
He then cast a spell with some magic dust
The targets began to hover off the ground and began moving wildly around
"Alright this is perfect for me!" said Wheezie
Wheezie took aim at the targets and fired her purple homing dragon breath
The purple energy boomerangs flew forward and homed in on the targets
They hit the targets destroying them in a small explosion
After a few more rounds all the targets were destroyed
'That's not normal dragon breath!' thought Lorca expecting Wheezie's usual scattered fireballs
"Ha! That was too easy" said Wheezie confidently before blowing smoke out of her mouth
"Not bad Wheezie, now it's my turn" said Zak
The targets suddenly set up again, this time they were stationary but were a lot farther away than before
Zak took careful aim at a target and fired
His thin, green, energy breath hit the center of target easily
Zak practiced his sniping until all the targets were destroyed
At the end his mouth was smoking like Wheezie's had been
He quickly blew the smoke out and he and Wheezie walked over to the others
Lorca was shocked
'First the kids are using amazing sword attacks now Zak and Wheezie's fire breath has changed into some kind of energy beam. What has happened to them!' thought Lorca
"Who's next?" asked Max
"I guess I'll go up" said Cassie
She walked up to the starting position
The targets had set back up in the normal position
Cassie thought for a second about what to do
"I do need to practice fighting up close" said Cassie
Although her high speed made fighting up close easy she was afraid of getting close to the bad guys and she was not too eager to start throwing punches or kicks due to her gentle nature
She extended her claws out further and got into a fighting stance
Lorca looked at Cassie's extended claws with fear
They looked really long and really sharp
He was become more and more afraid of his friends as time went on
Cassie ran forward at high speed and began slicing the targets to pieces so fast she looked like a pink blur
She sliced two in half then ran over to another and did the same
She then ran over to another and did a front flip over it
While she was doing the front flip she was hacking away at the target
It fell to pieces as she landed
She then dashed along a line of them and sliced five to pieces with her claws in a blink of a eye
As a finisher she began slicing away at the last standing on rapidly and relentlessly
It turned to dust when she was finished
When Cassie finally finished she looked over the damage she had done
She was shocked by what she had done
"Whoa I did that!" she said as she looked at the ruined targets
"Wow she es muy raipdo" said Enrique at the display
"I didn't know you could do that" said Emmy as Cassie came over
"I didn't either" said Cassie
Lorca was now genuinely scared now
He had seen the cute gentle Cassie who was one of the nicest dragons in Dragon Land unleash a brutal attack with her claws at impossible speeds
'They're not dragons they are monsters!' he thought thinking only a monster could do something like that
He just wanted to get away now without being seen by them
He was scared about what would happen if they caught him sneaking around
The image of Cassie attacking was the first thing that came to his mind
He was not sure his friends would not hurt him if they caught him but after seeing what they could do he wasn't about to stick around to find out
Unfortunately he couldn't get away without being seen by the others so he was stuck
"Who next?" asked Enrique
"I'll go! I want to see if there are any fun spells" said Emmy as she ran up to the starting point with her spell book
Emmy sat down and looked through the spell book for a spell to try
"I think I'll try this one" said Emmy
She then got up and set the book on the ground
She faced the targets and said the spell
"Dragon Fire!" she shouted
Her heart mark began glowing bright pink on her hand
She held up her hand at face level with her palm facing outwards to look at the mark on the back of her hand
Without warning a HUGE pink energy beam came flying out of her palm
It hit the targets and caused a huge line explosions around the target area
Unfortunately the beam fired with enough force to send her flying backwards
"I don't think that is fun" said Zak as he saw Emmy flying backwards
Meanwhile Locra had been so startled by this he had screamed and fell out of his chair
Emmy went flying right past Lorca's hiding spot and landed on the ground
Emmy quickly got up, startled but ok
She got to her feet and clearly saw Lorca on the ground
"Huh?" asked Emmy surprised to see the friendly red dragon cowering on the ground
The others came rushing over to Emmy to see if she was ok, they couldn't see Lorca from the direction they were running in
"Emmy are you alright!" asked Cassie
"That looked like it hurt" said Ord
"Are you alright Emmy?" asked Quetzal
"Yeah I'm fine but look…" said Emmy as she pointed to Lorca
"Lorca?" said Cassie surprised
Lorca looked up to see that he had been found out
Fear rushed through him
He didn't want to even think about what they could do to him after all he had seen
Enrique then began to walk over to Lorca with his swords still drawn
"Ahhhh Stay away!" said Lorca fearfully as Enrique got closer
Enrique kept getting closer
Lorca put his hands over his eyes and waited for a sword to hit him
He waited a second and felt nothing
He carefully opened his eyes to see not a sword but a hand
"Need some help up?" offered Enrique politely
He had sheathed his swords and offered a hand to Lorca to help him up
"Huh? You mean you're not going to hurt me?" Lorca asked confused
Everyone was taken aback by this question
"Hurt you? Why would we ever do that?" asked Enrique
"We would never hurt a friend" said Cassie
"But I saw you do all that stuff with the claws and the explosions and the huge energy beam!" said Lorca franticly
"Oh…You saw everything?" asked Emmy regretfully
"Yes! What are you?" asked Lorca
"Well it's a long story" said Emmy
"Yes, we can talk about it inside so we won't be heard" said Quetzal
Lorca them tried to get off the ground with some difficulty
"Here let me help you" said Enrique as he offered his hand again
Lorca looked at it for a second with some suspicion, but in the end he gladly took it
They then all went into The School in the Sky
Inside The School in the Sky
They sat down with Lorca and told him about what had happened, what the Dragon Riders were, and some of the history of the Dragon Riders. They had left out what humans had done since they thought he shouldn't know
By the end of it Lorca just sat there with his mouth wide open in shock
"Hello Lorca, are you awake? Hello" said Emmy waving her hand in front of Lorca to get him to respond
Lorca finally snapped to attention
"So you mean you have become these Dragon Rider heroes like a lot of other dragon heroes including Prince Gryffion?" asked Lorca in shock
"Yes, but you have to promise not to tell anyone" said Cassie putting emphases on anyone
"I promise" said Lorca
"Good" said Quetzal
"Sorry for lying about what we were doing for so long" said Enrique
"Yeah sorry" said Wheezie
"It's no problem; you had to keep your secret so that people wouldn't treat you oddly. And besides I shouldn't have been so curious and spied on you" said Lorca
"It is ok Lorca, you spied because you were worried that your friends were doing something dangerous and would get hurt. You spied for good reasons" said Quetzal relieving Lorca
"Yeah I guess but I'm still sorry I screamed when you saw me, I thought you were going to hurt me" said Lorca
"Why did you think that?" asked Cassie
"You destroyed those targets so easily and you looked very dangerous, I was scared because you could hurt me so easily" said Lorca
"It is true Lorca that they could hurt anyone in Dragon Land easily thanks to their new powers, but those powers do not change who they are. They might seem a lot different when they are fighting but deep down they are still the same as they day you met them. Only the outside has changed, inside they are still the same" said Quetzal
"Yeah, Ord is still scared of bugs, Emmy still says definitely, I still hate messes, and Wheezie still talks too much. We haven't changed one bit" said Zak
"Yeah, we are still the same people only we can do a lot of really cool…and scary stuff" said Ord
"Lorca would the friends you know ever try and hurt you?" asked Quetzal
"No they wouldn't" said Lorca
He realized that no matter how much they changed physically they were still the same friends he knew and cared for
Quetzal suddenly looked at the clock on the wall
"Excuse me ninos, I have a important appointment soon" said Quetzal
"What kind of appointment?" asked Emmy
"I have to talk with a student's parents, so I'm afraid you will have to leave" said Quetzal
"No problem, let's go" said Enrique
They then left the school
Outside The School in the Sky
"Sorry guys I guess I didn't realize that you would never hurt me no matter how easily you could" said Lorca when they were outside
"No problemo, I'm just glad we don't have to hide from everyone anymore" said Enrique relived to be openly talking about Dragon Riders stuff with a friend
"I guess it must be hard, I never thought about how hard even heroes must have to work to do their jobs" said Lorca
"Yeah if we mess up we die!" said Zak in a panic
"Plus we don't get any time for play" complained Max
"Can't you use your powers to do something fun?" asked Lorca
"We haven't found anything yet" said Enrique
Emmy was a couple of feet away on the ground looking through her spell book with Cassie looking down on her
"I'm sure their must be something here" said Emmy running through the spells she had
"Be careful Emmy" warned Cassie remembering the last try at a spell
"Still haven't found anything?" asked Enrique who was with the rest of the group near the school entrance
"I think I'll try this one" said Emmy getting to her feet and looking at a spell in a spell book
"Emmy…" warned Cassie in a concerned tone
Emmy raised her hand and prepared to say the spell
The others say this and panicked
"AHHHHHHHH GET DOWN!" shouted Zak waiting for some unbelievable destructive spell to come from Emmy
The others got down in a second and took cover as best they could
"DRAGON BARRIER!" Emmy shouted
Their was a flash of pink light and suddenly Emmy and Cassie were inside a giant pink energy bubble
"Whoa! What is this?" asked Cassie
Emmy reached out and touched the side of the bubble
It felt soft and rubbery like a balloon
"It's a bubble!" said Emmy
"How do we get out?" asked Cassie
"How about we pop it?" suggested Emmy
"Worth a try" said Cassie
Cassie extended her claws and poked at the side
It didn't pop
She tried harder
It stayed intact
"Wow it's tough!" said Cassie surprised
"Go as hard as you can" suggested Emmy
"Ok" said Cassie
She jabbed at the bubble's side with her claws with great force
It stayed intact
Unfortunately the ground they were on had a slight curve so suddenly the bubble began to roll downhill
They rest of the group had finally gotten up from cowering to see Emmy and Cassie rolling away in the bubble
"Oh no!" shouted Ord
"We have to catch them!" said Enrique
They quickly mounted up and took off after it
Lorca being unable to fly followed slowly with his chair
The bubble rolled at a steady pace for a while until it came to the top of a big hill
It went off the side and began to roll rapidly down the hill
Emmy and Cassie were stuck tumbling around inside it all the way down
Thankfully the sides were soft so it didn't hurt at all
They felt scared at first but then they actually began to enjoy the ride
Zak and Wheezie landed in the bubble's path and tried to stop it
But since it was bigger than them it just bowled right over them
"Well that was a smart idea" said Zak sarcastically as he and Wheezie got up
Ord tried the same thing further down the hill with more success
His super strength allowed him to stop it
As soon as he did it bust freeing Emmy and Cassie
Max got off Ord and went to see if Emmy was ok
"Emmy are you alright!" asked Max in a panic as all the others arrived on the scene
Emmy and Cassie both looked really dizzy and were laying on the ground
"That was…That was…" said Emmy unable to finish the sentence due to her dizziness
"It was what?" asked Enrique
"It was AWSOME!" said Emmy happily
"Yeah it was really fun!" said Cassie getting up
"That felt like the best roller coaster ever" said Emmy
"Yeah! It made me so dizzy" said Cassie with a light giggle
"That looked like a wild ride" said Wheezie
"Did it hurt?" asked Zak
"No, I think the spell is some kind of shield. It doesn't hurt at all" said Emmy
"I think you have found a fun use for a spell" said Enrique
Suddenly Cassie and Emmy began to run back up the hill
"Where are you going?" asked Enrique
"To do it again" said Emmy as she ran back up the hill with Cassie

The gang meets up with Brass to ask him for some help. During a political rant of Brass's he brings up an important question. Who should be the leader of the group? They have to decide who shall be their leader. But will whoever gets picked be up to the job or will they pull a George W. Bush?
