Rain.
Pre Notes: This is leading into a story based in the Teen Titan's world, centering around existance.
This is simply the begining. It is the begining of Rain.
My name is David King Alma. I am 18, an am in my senior year. And. I. Exist.
I know, I know. Odd thing to say. But, I'm not good at anything. Sports, never got to try. Math? It all seems to leek out some how. How I've gotten to my Senior year, I don't have a clue. It seems each year I just slide through without ever being noticed. This year will be different, this year I WILL be noticed.
Heh, who knows! Maybe before the year is out, I'll get myself a girlfriend and become a big star or something!
I groaned as I passed through the hall. Looked up to see my best friend. He's a good guy, a bit over weight, but not bad over all. "Hey!" I call out, as he yells something to me. Can't hear.
Don't care. I've got something I need to do. I'm going to sign up for the Football team. Then I'm going to ask the girl of my dreams out.
I will, by God!
Rain. I hate rain. I don't know why. Wait…what? What…did I sign up? I don't know. I asked! I ASKED HER OUT! She said yes! SHE SAID YES!
Wait. Wait. Have to stay focused. WHEN did I ask her out? After the sign ups…before? I…don't know. I don't know. How did I get home?
How do I always get home. I…don't remember? Why don't I…
The voices. They're coming.
I slink back, behind the couch. Only…something's wrong. This house…it's dusty. Old. Unlived in. What…?
"Who are you."
Oh no. I stayed too long. The voices…
"Who is your father."
I think. I…don't know.
"Who is your mother?"
Doubt clouds my mind.
Who…? Mother?
"Who is your family?"
Family…I…have…had a family?
"No. You never had a family. For 18 years you have avoided us. We are Nothingness. You are Nothing."
Nothing…No. I exist. I LIVE! I AM NOT NOTHING!
"Correction. You are Nothing. You never existed. You must come with us."
The voices…so impassive.
But that's not true! I have a life! I'm apart of the football team, I have friends, I HAVE AN EXISTANCE!
"Name your friend."
Suddenly, I was frozen. Name? …did he have a name? He must have. All things have names. But…did he?
"Name your team."
What? The team's name was…
"NAME YOURSELF."
I am David! I AM DAVID!
"No. You are nothing."
NO! I will PROVE I exist! I WILL PROVE IT!
I burst out the door. Gotta find a way to PROVE I exist.
Have to.
The voices are behind me. I know it. I can feel them. I don't know how. But I can. They're behind me. I won't stop. I will never stop.
The rain is cold. Too cold. Inhumanly so. It slows me down. No. Must keep moving. Must prove I exist. I AM DAVID. I HAVE A NAME. I EXIST!
Time stops. Completely. Then I see it.
A child in front of a speeding car. He's about to be hit, and he doesn't even relise it yet. Gotta save him. That'll prove I exist.
I lunge at the kid, as time lunges forward, pushing him backwards. The car comes too quickly.
There is no escape.
"In brighter news today, a young boy was miraculously thrown backwards by some strange force, as the mother calls it, out of the way of a speeding car. No one was harmed, and the boy is just fine. In other news…..."
