Rain pattered down steadily, creating a simple melody as the droplets burst into a million silvers when it hit the grass. It brought to the world a sense of contentment, a sense of life with each passing second.
A lone figure stood, eyes staring into the open, hands clutching a stalk of rose.
"Rain, you've always hated it."
"No. I'm not going out in this kind of weather."
"It is just water."
"Doesn't make a difference to me."
"You're coming."
"Wha—No! Don't you dare drag me out there!"
"Come on!"
"NO!"
"Yet, you loved it too."
"Great! It's raining!"
"Is that good or bad, my hydrophobic lover?"
"It's good if I'm in the house."
"Oh? Why?"
"You don't want to know."
"Humour me."
"Cos I get to spend time with you and the pattering of raindrops will lull us both to sleep."
"I'm honoured."
Pale hands rose to push back a lock of hair, eyes closing in pain.
"You've always hated my fringe."
"Cut it."
"No."
"Why?"
"I like it this way."
"I don't."
"Why?"
"Your eyes are blocked."
"What's so nice about my eyes?"
"Everything. The way it seems to smother me when you look at me. The way it shines when you wake in the morning. The way it darkens when you battle. The way – "
"Alright. I get the drift."
"So, you'll cut it?"
"No."
"But you liked it as well."
"Still want me to cut my fringe?"
"I dunno. I like playing with it. Especially when it's slightly damp."
"Make up your mind."
"Well… I guess it's tolerable."
The hands clenched convulsively around the rose. Pain blossomed as a thorn buried itself into the flesh, drawing out a trickle of blood harshly, giving form to the pain in his heart.
Blood red eyes softened as he reached out to trace the words carved on the tombstone fondly.
