another NatsuXUltear fic, this time high school AU
It's Friday afternoon in the city of Fiore, Wendy marvel. A freshman is waiting to be picked up.
The school was just let out for the weekend. Then someone came up right behind her.
She is tall with long raven-colored hair with a figure most guys would love to spend a night with.
"Wendy?" She looked behind to see her close friend Ultear Milkovich, a senior at their high school.
"Yes, Ultear, what is it?"
"Just wondering why you're out here alone and not with Erza and the others?"
"Oh, my cousin is going to pick me up from school today," she said.
"Your cousin?"
"Yes, his name is Natsu, Natsu Dragneel, he's the same year as you. In fact, on Monday, he'll be enrolled here as a student."
"Now, I'm curious. I'd like to see this cousin of yours."
"I'm sure Natsu would love to meet you!" then they heard the sound of a running engine.
They look to the source to see a red 2015 model Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing stripe over the top pull up to the girls.
The passenger side window rolls down, revealing a man with distinctive pink hair.
"Wendy, you ready, and who is the girl next to you?"
"Natsu, this is Ultear mind giving her a ride home," she said nervously.
Natsu had a soft chuckle shaking his head "oh, alright," he unlocks the passenger side door.
Wendy sat in the back with her and Ultear backpack while Ultear sat upfront.
"How far away does she live from us, Wendy?"
"Just down the street," she informed as Natsu left the school grounds.
There was an uncomfortable silence during the car ride home.
Following Wendy's direction, they parked outside of Ultear house she shares with her mother.
Wendy's home is several houses down, parking on the side of the street in front of their home.
Natsu popped the trunk to get his stuff out, bringing it to the front before running back to shut the trunk door.
Of course, he locked it on his way back inside.
As soon as Natsu stepped into the living room, he was met with the sight of his aunt Grandeeney.
She is slightly shorter than him but a slender figure with long blond hair and blue eyes.
She wore a white dress with a black undershirt as she sat at the end of the couch.
"Hello Natsu, it's been a while since I last saw you!"
"Same here, aunt G.d!" He said with a small smile.
"You father filled me in on what happened," she said with a slight frown.
"I shouldn't be surprised. I am and will always be eternally grateful for taking me in once again.
"It's not your fault, just your jackass brother Zeref starting fights again!" She said, sigh.
"Hey, it wasn't his, or my fault dad will say the same thing!"
"I know, your father knows, and your town police chief knows!" She said aloud.
A small smile formed a graced Natsu's face, "again, thank you, I assume the same place as last time?"
"Yep, just cleaned it out today!"
"Again, thanks. I'll put my stuff away. Also, what's for dinner?"
"The same thing on your birthday, silly," all three shared a Smile.
Natsu ran upstairs to the renovated attic when he reached the top of the stairs.
He was greeted with the room till he graduates at the end of this year.
His bed is full-sized, pushed up against the circular window.
On the opposite side of the room, against the wall next to the stairs, is a desk.
Next to it is a dresser to put his clothes on for the time being.
Once all that is done, he places his laptop on the desk hooking up the charger to the wall outlet.
Once all that was done, he walked downstairs. He saw his aunt and cousin sitting on the couch with a grin he recognized all too well.
With all his willpower, he sat down across from them, with a sigh, "fire at will!"
"Sooo Wendy told me you gave her friend a ride home!" Grandeeney Cooed.
Pink dusted Natsu's cheeks as he struggled to think up the words after taking a few moments to think up a response.
"Ultear, she is beautiful. I have no shame in admitting that. I just don't think I'm ready to consider dating." Sorrow in his voice reminded the two.
"I understand, Natsu. I'm sorry for bringing it up."
"Aunt Gd, Wendy, you did nothing wrong" he put great emphasis on his words hoping to lift their spirits.
"Well, no use thinking about the past!" Wendy declares, getting a nod from her mom and cousin.
Earlier With Ultear
Ultear just walked into her house To see her mother sitting on the couch watching T.V.
It was just her and her mother living alone. She dropped her backpack on the side of the couch, taking her spot next to her.
"Sooo, I noticed you got a ride home," she said with an evil smile putting her daughter on edge.
"It's not what you think," she said, looking away.
"Oh, then mind explaining?" She didn't let up on her smile.
"It was Wendy's cousin, she said he would be enrolled in school starting Monday, and his name is Natsu," she said that last part looking away.
"Oh, so it's a guy with a car!" She continued her tone.
"Mother, it's not like that!" She snapped before looking away, guilt heavy in her heart.
Knowing what her daughter meant, she brought her into a comforting hub as tears streamed down her daughter's cheeks.
"How many times do I have to tell everyone I didn't do that!" She wailed.
"I don't know, honey, just be glad your friends believe you. That's all that matters!" She whispered into her daughter's ear.
After about a minute of tears, Ultear regained her composure.
"Call me when dinner is ready" she goes upstairs to her room.
The next day Natsu got up early, deciding to do his early morning stretches before going for a run.
It was the early morning hours of February, the sun barely peeking over the horizon.
Unknown to him, someone was watching him go on his way.
It was Ur with an amused expression "what are you looking at?" Her daughter asked.
"Did that boy who gave you a ride home have pink hair, Hmm?" she said, looking at her daughter.
"Yes, why, did you see him outside?"
"I just watched a young stud run by. If you're not interested, think I can-" Ur never finished.
"Mother, He's half your age!"
"So he looks like he'll last-" once again, she was cut off.
"MOTHER!"
"I'm kidding, what I can't have a little fun?" She said smugly, looking in her daughter in the eyes.
Her daughter couldn't respond since her mother was the one paying the bills.
"So, are you interested in him" she didn't even bother hiding her grin.
Pink dusted her cheeks "he's cute for sure, beyond that, I don't know, I just hope he's not like all the other guys" once again, a stray tear went down her cheeks.
"I hope so too, but don't hold your breath. You'll find the right one eventually."
"I hope so."
"You're not alone. The best guy I've ever known is, unfortunately, the father of that pig!" She said with venom.
"I know Silver was amazing, has class, and knows how to treat a lady with the respect she deserves!" she wore the same pissed look her mother has.
Later that day.
After a few hours, Natsu was finished with his morning routine before heading home to shower up.
He lives with two women. So being squeaky clean is a must for him, not that he minds.
Once that's done, both his aunt and Wendy crawled out of bed for breakfast in the morning.
Since Natsu just moved in, not only did they have his favorite dinner, they decided to make his favorite breakfast.
He was happy but did feel a little guilty thinking they were bending over backward for him.
Gandeeney saw the look in his eye. "Natsu, relax. I'm doing this because of how sweet you are when not around your brother!"
"I know, but he has gotten better thanks to Mavis's no shit attitude around him" The two girls giggled at this.
It isn't too surprising since very little can change a woman's mind.
The moment they crossed paths, they have been inseparable, too stubborn to give in to the other.
Once breakfast was made, his aunt had to ask, "what are your plans for this week, Natsu?"
"Well, besides getting a lay of the land, I was gonna go to the gym to enroll in MMA!"
"Your Igneel sons, alright, no point in trying to change your mind on this, just be careful!"
"I will," he trailed off.
"Where have I heard that before!" Wendy added, causing the two girls to giggle at his expense.
Later that day, Naruto put on his dark blue jeans with a red muscle shirt with a slick black leather jacket highlighting his build.
He walked to his car with simple tennis shoes on with a bag over his shoulder, holding his workout clothes.
As he got to his car, he noticed eyes on him. It was Ultear on her house's front porch.
He U-turns his car around, slowly pulling up to her house rolling down his window.
"Take a picture. It lasts longer!" He jokes, scaring the poor girl.
"Sorry, it's just a gorgeous car you have! No offense, but how did you afford this?"
"Thanks, and it was a gift from my grandmother before she passed away.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's fine. I've been asked so many times it doesn't bother me."
"Not to be rude, but where are you going?"
"I'm going to the gym. Before I moved here, I did MMA. I'm hoping the local gym has a program."
"Well, good luck Natsu!"
"Thank you," he rolls up the window before leaving.
To his luck, a gym about 30 minutes away and has an MMA program and Octagon to match.
A quick phone call to his old place allowed him to get past the red tape an average person would go through.
For the remainder of the day, he got acquainted with everyone there.
As long as he pays his dues and doesn't cause any problems, he can participate, and if the need arises, teach.
He got home late that night because of all the people he had to meet and talk to.
The following day he did his morning routine and worked out before staying home for the remainder of the day as he went over his school schedule.
Monday morning
Ultear sat at her homeroom desk. She's lost in thought as she wondered which homeroom Natsu would have.
She was brought out of her, though, when the teacher introduced everyone to Natsu Dragneel.
He gave everyone a hello before finding his spot two desks to her right.
He looked her way and sent her a small smile for her to send a short wave back.
Thankfully no one noticed her waving. The last thing she needs is old rumors floating around.
It was challenging to deal with them the first time and minor resurgent every so often.
But she will have to deal with them another time, internally she is glad to see he has the same homeroom as her.
When lunch came around, Ultear met up with Erza, Mira, Lisanna, and Wendy inside.
With it being winter, they can't go outside as they would typically do.
"Oh, did any of you hear about the new guy? Apparently, he has pink hair!" Mira beamed at her friends.
"Yes, I heard about him. Apparently, he drives that red Camaro!"
"I wondered who's Camaro that is," Lisanna, a sophomore, added as the second youngest girl in their group.
While the three girls were talking about Natsu, Ultear and Wendy have reluctant looks in their eyes.
"So, what have you heard about the new guy?" The eldest Strauss sibling asked.
"He's my cousin, and he's living with me and my mom!" Wendy informed.
The three girls were shocked into silence. They initially didn't believe her.
But after taking some time to process it, they realize Wendy wouldn't joke about this.
They look to Ultear, wanting her opinion on the matter, knowing Ultear lives down the street from the youngest member.
"He gave me a ride home when he picked up Wendy Friday." She added.
The three girls were shocked into silence at this before Mira hatched an idea.
"So what do you think of him, Ultear!" She said with a usual look telling her she won't let this go.
"He seems like a nice guy...but I'm not sure if I'm ready for something like that," she said, looking away.
They all shared a frown knowing what she meant and the pain it caused her.
"Natsu's not like that!" After that, Wendy started getting all eyes to land on her, especially Ultear.
"He was also hurt by someone he thought he loved," she said, looking away.
They could tell she won't spill it, which they commend her for.
A small smile graced Ultear's face as a bit of hope bloomed in her heart.
This didn't go unnoticed by Wendy, who shared her smile.
"Why is he living with you, Wendy?"
She was very reluctant to say this because she knew she had to say something.
"Natsu and his brother got into another fight. If you want to know more, ask him. Assuming he trusts you enough to learn the truth." guilt weighed heavy on her for saying this, but they needed something.
She just hopes Natsu will forgive her when he learns she spilled some of the beans on him.
Fortunately, after the nightmare, Ultear went through, they silently agreed not to pry further.
If they did, it would be the pot calling the kettle black.
With Natsu
Natsu was eating his lunch at a picnic table under a tree in front of the school.
Most students eat inside because of the cold. He didn't mind. He actually likes it to some degree.
He was eating alone. He didn't mind it at all. In fact, he liked the solitary. It allowed him to ponder and digest everything that happened to him.
For example, why he moved two hours away to Fiore city going to fairy tail high.
His mind goes back to his freshman year, A young boy full of energy, constantly picking fights with his brother.
This led to his father, Igneel enrolling him in MMA. It was excellent for him, being able to use all that energy.
This eventually got the girls of his gym and high school attention.
Despite becoming a fighter thanks to MMA, he was always a gentle soul.
When everyone came back from winter break of his junior year, a girl piqued his interest.
Little did he know she was a manipulative little harpy.
Her name is Lucy Heartfilia, a girl in the same class as him.
She was friendly and actually seemed interested in him.
The girl he thought he loved wanted to get more serious about their relationship at the end of the year.
The realization was when she brought up the topic of sex, with prom right around the corner and dating half a school year.
His male desire was in high gear, along with his naïve mind.
But when the day finally came, he learned the truth. She had no intention of it. In fact, their entire relationship was a sham on her part.
It was a ploy to get back at her than an ex-boyfriend.
To make this worse, he was his opponent in an MMA competition.
It messed up so bad he lost that fight in the first round.
Lucy and her boyfriend got together again after he lost the fight. Unfortunately, he hasn't been the same since then.
Then his mind went over the fights that sent him to his aunt and cousin for the remainder of his senior year.
Two weeks ago
His older brother was back in town with his girlfriend, Mavis,
Everyone was happy she was still with him. He was a bit of a rebel before he ran into her.
Everyone thought she wouldn't last, but boy was they wrong.
Finding out she is as stubborn, if not more than him, was actually a good thing.
He's not entirely tamed, but he is not as hot-headed as before.
It was just him and his brother leaving the local gym since their MMA classes are done.
Mavis was with them wanting to make sure Zeref behaves himself.
They took Mavis's car since Zerefs was still in the shop after that jump he took.
And Natsu's needed new tires and brake pads.
Her car is a small five-seater, not too expressive, not too cheap.
What happened next was far from pretty. A few guys from a rival gym stepped up to them.
The Dragneel brother tried to avoid a fight, then one of them made the mistake of shoving Mavis out of the way.
This pushed his brother over the edge dragging his younger brother in.
The fight was so loud passerby called the cop to keep it from going out of hand.
All four were sent to the police departments with Mavis tailing behind them.
When all was said and done, Natsu got off the hook, still being in school.
But Zeref wasn't so lucky. He didn't go to jail but does have to do community service, thanks to Mavis.
As for the guys who started it, they were sentenced to jail time.
But it didn't end there, nothing wrong happened to them, but Natsu could feel an extra set of eyes on him for one whole week.
A long but personal talk followed this up with his dad, brother, and Mavis.
It was decided he'd live with his aunt Grandeeney for the rest of his schooling.
Natsu spent two days saying his goodbyes to his friends and teachers and getting his stuff packed up.
Now he just hopes no one from his home town Alvarez comes poking around Fiore.
Natsu has few classes to do before he has to take himself and Wendy home and possibly Ultear.
He wasn't worried about that. It was his P.E. class coming up.
He has been mentally preparing himself for this. First, however, he has to be careful since he doesn't want anyone to see the tattoo on his back.
He didn't have time to dwell on it since lunch was over.
Luck was on his side since his gym teacher also goes to the same gym he'll be doing MMA.
So Keeping his tattoo a secret won't be a problem for him.
Once school was let out, Natsu met up with Wendy "does Ultear need a ride home?"
"No, she hanging out with Erza and the others today."
"You aren't going with them?"
"No, I want to stay with you, so the move isn't so stressful for you," she said with a smile.
"Well, thank you, Wendy!"
"You're welcome, Natsu," she said before stopping in his opinion too quickly.
"Wendy!" he said sternly.
"I'll tell you when we get home," she said, looking away.
Knowing it was pointless, he complied, driving them home.
Once the door dropped their stuff off, Natsu gazed at her with a neutral expression.
"They wonder why you moved here, all I said is you and Zeref got in a fight. That's all I said, I swear!" Wendy said with conviction.
Natsu didn't say a word as his expression stayed the same for a solid minute.
He took a deep inhale, then exhaled. "It's fine, Wendy. You told them the minimum they needed to know," he finished with a smile easing the poor girl.
Natsu went up to his room to work on his homework. But, to his frustration, it was more complicated than he thought.
"Yeah, looks like it will be straight C's for me," he said with a sigh.
After finishing his homework and dinner, he stayed in his room for the rest of the night.
Much to his confusion, his mind was on Ultear. She is beautiful. He will openly admit it.
The question is, is she being friendly, or is there something more?
He hopes there is something more, but he doesn't know if his heart is ready for that again.
Then he heard a car go by. He looked through his window to see a car pulled up in front of Ultear's home.
He assumed she was getting home after hanging out with her friends.
He laid back down, pondering what this Semester has in store for him.
