A/N: Apologies for the lack of line breaks in the first three chapters, google docs has line breaks of their own but I guess it didn't translate and I didn't look over the documents here within fanfiction, won't be happening again.
'...it's just as I thought. His official quirk...is a conjuration type ability. Then how can he...' Aizawa went digging into his students files at the end of the day, he remembered glancing at Jin-woo's older paperwork the day of the exam, but it wasn't until now that he really acknowledged it. Even his scores at older schools were average at best. Was his power somehow intertwined with his quirk?
The description on file was quite specific, official name: Dark Knight, can bring forth conjured knights created from his own shadow. Nothing about that should grant him strength or speed. Perhaps its not the ability to summon them, but maybe he's drawing them out from within his own body? That might be it, as he rescinded all his summons before somehow catching a punch from the 0 pointer, which should have flattened any non strength based quirk user. A small theory, one to be left on the backburner as he continued to watch. It wouldn't be long now before his abilities will be tested in a manner of different ways.
For The monarch, school was as boring as usual. Although he could feel a select few, especially the ants and Beru, get rather...antsy during lunch time. Their days of eating monsters are pretty much over, and eating basic animals on recon wasn't the same. Especially since they'd be punished for apparently "endangering the ecosystem". What a strange god of 'death' they served.
It wasn't until hero course that he had a bit of actual interest in his demeanor. Waiting with all the other students for the man of the hour.
"I AAAAAM. COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"
"Woah it's really him!"
"He's wearing a classic suit, so cool!"
He never got any less embarrassing for the young Korean. Top hunters in his world were always so, dark, mysterious, and well, yes edgy. Not a totally bad thing in his mind. Although he could see how in a comic book world you needed some Glam.
"Basic hero training! The class that will put you through the ringer and mold you into the next heroes! We have no time for idle chit chat, we're doing battle training! Now get your costumes cause it's time to go, i'll meet you in ground beta!"
A Costume. For anyone else from his world, their raid gear would suffice, unluckily for him, he always did his raids with street clothes. He remembered pacing around his room for hours on end thinking. If he chose nothing, they'd probably give him some lame, skin tight thing. They apparently choose based on your quirk, technically his was still shadow summoning...oh, he totally showed completely different abilities in his test huh? Well, he'd worry about that later.
However, when he thought of his mother, it came to him, the perfect costume. Using his conjuration abilities, he spawned it in. it was the set he wore when battling the demon clans, as well as demon king Baron. A full pitch black set consisting of trousers, a long sleeve shirt, and boots. Along with the very useful and flashy robe of wind. These were what he wore when fighting for his own mothers life. And now, this was going to be his clothes on that same journey in another world. A reminder to himself that he is first and foremost a hero to those he has waiting on him at home.
"Looking the part is every bit as important as playing it ladies and gentleman! Look alive, and enjoy the spotlight, cause from now on, you all are HEROES!"
As everyone stepped into the light, the number one hero took great delight looking over each and every one of them.
'They all look so cool! Huh, all black young man? Guess you took after Aizawa in more than just your personality hahaha!'
Hiding his chuckling from his rather moody successor, he went right along with the plan of the day.
"Well now, you ready to begin you bunch of zygotes!?"
Uraraka noticed Jin-woo instantly, his cape was rather odd, it was a totally different temperature than anything else he wore. When he noticed her touching it, she grinned sheepishly and rubbed the back of her head.
"Ah! Sorry about that, your costume looks so cool! As for me..well maybe I should have been a bit more specific hahaha. It's so curvy and skin tight."
Jin-Woo blushed only slightly and decided not to stare too hard. Unlike those video games his little sister would play, females would wear full, covering armor during raids, or long robes for mages. Here, it seemed some girls actually thrived off of a sexual hint to their persona, like Mt. Lady.
"We're all here then? Good."
"Sensei! This is the same area we did the entrance exam in, will we be fighting robotic enemies again?"
"Nope! You all will be moving ahead, and fighting in actual 2v2 indoor team battles! You see, while outside fights are seen often, the statistics say the majority of villain battles occur indoors! Which is why we're going to split you up into villain and hero teams."
"We aren't getting any combat training first?" Asked that one frog girl. Atsui was her name if Jin-woo remembered.
"Haha, experience itself is the best training you need! The difference here is that you aren't fighting trashable robots!"
The class all burst into random students shooting off question after question.
"How do we win?"
"Are you going to expel someone for losing like Aizawa wanted to?"
"How do we divide ourselves into our groups?"
"Isn't my armor so shiny?"
"Agh! One at a time! Actually, better yet, listen up! Villains are going to be hiding in a building with a nuke. Their job is to protect the weapon for the remainder of the time. The heroes have to go in and capture either the weapon or the villains to win. They lose if time runs out or are defeated by the villains in combat. And your partners, are decided by drawing lots!"
"Huh? Random chance?" Asked one student.
"Alright! Let's get to it!"
Jin-Woo pulled out an A labelled ball from a box his teacher held. That means his partner is,
"Uraraka. Guess we're a team."
"Oh! Yeah I guess we are!"
"Alright! First up is...These two teams! Heroes are team A, villains are team D! Villains go in first, hero pursue after 5 minutes! Rest of us will watch from the control room. As for you 4, this is for practical experience. Don't hold back, but er, don't do anything crazy either, i'll stop it if things go too far!"
Bakugo stayed silent, then turned to stare down Jin-woo. He looked, different. Throughout all of junior high, especially after their 'close fights' Bakugo always looked at him like he was a wall he struggled to get over. Eyes filled with anger, but resolve. But now, they were different. Jin-woo can sense emotions with just his nose, and this was not just anger, but hurt? He refused to say anything, but after a few tense seconds, turned his back to enter the building.
"What was that all about?"
"Bakugo and I, we have some history."
"Did you use to bully him or something?"
"Hm? No nothing like that. We've been friends since we were little. I guess you can say I was the silent one, while he liked to do all the talking and decision making. After we got our quirks, he was really brought up with favor and praise of those around him, it poisoned his mind, because that created a voice in his head saying he has to be the best. Things between us wilted after he challenged me to a fight and lost. It was the first time in his life, ever, that he wasn't able to accomplish something. Ever since then, we've had constant close matchups here and there...but it was all a farce."
"I never heard you talk for so long."
"Mmh. Let's just get to planning."
"Y-yeah, sorry it's just that. I feel like things would be anti climactic if you just went in there and knocked him out cold. I like a bit of drama is all."
'Hm? Man girls are weird'
"HERO VS VILLAIN COMBAT TRAINING, START!"
"Hold onto my hand."
"Uh! Ah, okay!" She said, feeling her cheeks warm up a bit.
Her whole vision went black for an instant, as if fading out and back in to a completely different reality. The quickly shifting and lack of gravity for a quick second almost made her panic as a quasi vertigo set in.
"Ah! We, we're in!"
"While we waited, I secretly setup a means for teleportation."
"You can teleport too! What can't you do!?"
"It's more complicated than-"
Before he could answer, his eyes darted right, lightly pushing uraraka out of the way, he raised his left arm to block an incoming blast directed at his head.
Boom
Bakugo used more explosions to propel him backwards, until they stood across each other in the hallway.
"Uraraka, go and find the weapon. When you do, just stand there and wait."
"Got it!" She wanted to question what 'wait' was supposed to mean. But if he had a means of teleporting, maybe he planned to leave Bakugo behind then join up with her in an instant.
"Alright, Bakugo, come at me."
"...shut up. SHUT UP! NOT ANOTHER LIE!"
"..."
"Even now, even now you're trying to play me for an idiot aren't you! Why me!? I bet it's only me isn't it! Do you just view me as that pathetic? HUH!?"
"Baku-"
"I DON'T WANNA HEAR YOUR CRAP! I spent my entire life trying to catch up with you. Trying to prove something. And now I know, it was all a lie. I never stood a chance. You hid away your power, and pretended I was an equal. You made me think, that if I worked hard enough I could finally beat you!"
Jin-Woo wasn't sure how to respond, but he had to say something.
"You were my friend. I couldn't just crush your dreams like that." Pretty much the truth, in his pursuit of normalcy, he never really did take into account the perspective of others.
"So instead you build them up first, so it's even worse?!"
Suddenly, his grenade gauntlets began to glow red. And the cloaked necromancer grimaced.
"I'll show you what I mean. With this much of my power saved up, I'd probably blow away the entire class in one shot. Now if you wanna prove me wrong! GET BLOWN AWAY!"
"Young Bakugo! Don't!" All Might pleaded.
"DIEEEE!" Unhooking both pins, the gauntlets let loose a ranged, and focused blast of fire and power that essentially wiped the entire floor clean of walls. This, however, was him just making a point, in his mind there was no way his opponent would actually be seriously harmed by that attack. He wanted to prove his point that Jin-Woo has been lying to everyone all along. Though to his surprise, he was nowhere to be found when the dust and debris cleared. Worse still, his voice was clearly audible, meaning he didn't dart out the now massive hole in the wall.
"If that were to hit me, you might have done some intense damage, in fact it might have even injured me. So stop blaming your inability to defeat me on a difference of power, unless of course you've given up already. If you want the truth, its this:"
Coming out of stealth, he perfectly leapt behind Bakugo to line up a clean kick to the head, sending him down the hall and onto the debris filled floor, dazing him in the process.
"You said you could never work hard enough to reach me, and that's because I never stop levelling up."
A certain red haired boy started to get hyped at what he was watching. It was like his shonen dreams come true, manly, and dramatic! To some of the others, it came off as rather hokey. Why the video game terminology?
What All Might watched really hit home for him. He knew what the young korean felt to an extent. He remembered all the times Endeavor and him would meet. It was always...less than desirable results. To have someone dislike you and your existence, just for being the best. It spoke volumes on their tenacity and desire to be on top, but it spoke even louder volumes on their inability to see the greater picture. He could only hope that in time this young Bakugo could learn to accept things as they are.
It looked like the angry boy was going to get back up, but a rough chop to the back of the neck and some capture tape made that an impossibility, and so with a sour look on his face, the class watched as Sung once again teleported to his teammate in an instant. And with the most causal of gestures, slowly walked to the bomb, flung the 'villainous' Iida through a wall with telekinesis, and touched it, ending the match.
The rest of the class stared, amazed at the absolute ease he dominated the event with. A select few pairs of eyes watched him even harder than usual. At some point, the hype wears off, and instead is replaced by a desire to surpass those who amaze you. That's why they're at UA in the first place.
