Note: Woah, three chapters in two days? I'm out here spoiling yall. Jokes aside I just wanted to write since I'm in a good writing mood and I had free time this past couple days so I wanted to use it well. This chapter is quite short but oh well, I felt it was nice to end it on that note.
THIS CHAPTER HAS MANGA ONLY SPOILERS FOR THE LATEST ARC, THERE WILL BE A "SPOILER" TO SIGNIFY WHEN TO STOP READING IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS
The medical autopsy said that in those final moments, a broken rib had punctured his own heart. A result of the massive internal damage dealt to the hero killer over the course of the fight. The fact that he could walk at all in his final moments was a miracle.
Sung opted to stay in Iida's hospital room with him overnight. Brooding over what had happened last night. When the police arrived, they restrained the stiff, dead body and carried him out as if it was an arrest. They probably will try and keep his death tight lipped. It might make him even more of a martyr than he already was turning out to be, given the internets reaction to the news coverage of his 'capture'. However the battle of Hosu was also in the spotlight. Mostly because of the spectacle of it, a battle of monsters out of a movie. Many already made the simple connection to him thanks to his appearance in the sports festival.
The reaction was quite mixed. Many fundamentalist abhorred it, and called him a vigilante. A rebel who had no respect for the laws. Many progressive thinkers called him a true hero. Knowing that he definitely lowered injury and death counts by keeping the nomu contained in one area and dispatching them quickly.
"Hey, Sung. Thank you." Iida suddenly stated, breaking the tired, cloaked lich from his thoughts.
"Hm?"
"I never gave you my gratitude for what you did. Not only saving me, but giving me the strength to stand up again." All the mental exhaustion hit hard when he arrived at the hospital. He couldn't stop his hands from trembling. After learning of the hero killer's fate, he was filled with too much turmoil to tackle alone. Sung comforted him the entire ride, as if the idea of killing someone didn't bother him at all. It was mildly disconcerting, but for now, it was nice to have someone to keep you calm.
The door to their room swung open, Gran Torino walked in with another hero and a dog in a suit. Maybe he was still dreaming…
"Seems like you two are awake finally? Someone is here to speak with you." Gran Torino spoke with a deathly serious tone. Whatever was coming, wasn't good.
"You must be Sung Jin-woo. I've heard many things about you. And you're Tenya Iida. You have my condolences for what happened to your brother. I'm Hosu's chief of police, Mr. Kenji Tsuragamae."
'Yeah, this isn't gonna be good at all'
"At the beginning of this amazing era, police decided not to use quirks in their work, to maintain order and consistency. The job known as hero rose to fill that hole in society. However it was because of these first heroes compliance with the law that led to their support. You two, have done something you could not even begin to understand. You've taken a life. And from what I heard from Manual, you Iida, rushed off of your own volition to seek this out. You not only killed, but you killed out of revenge woof."
The boy in the hot seat looked down and grimaced despite whatever the hell that was at the end of that sentence. It was true. He broke the law of the highest degree.
"Wait! Iida was there, that's true. But he was out of the fight the entire time, paralyzed and defenseless. I was the one to deal his fatal damage." Jin-woo spoke up. It was mostly true, there's no way Iida could have actually done enough to kill Stain.
"Sung!" Iida said in surprise.
"Is that true?"
"Yes. I came to save him, and I didn't control my power well enough. But still, was I supposed to watch him die?!"
"Are you saying that if everything turns out fine then the law doesn't matter?"
"I'm saying that human life is more sacred than rules."
"You say that and yet you took a life yourself woof."
As his annoyance grew, the armies within him clamored to be released, watching their king be treated like a child was infuriating.
"So what. Am I going to be expelled? I did what I did to survive and protect my friend. I have no remorse. And I'd do it again."
"Hmm. What happens to you and your schooling is not up to me. You're young, and have a passion for what you do, and you have the strength to really make a difference. But you're unrefined, you still have a lot to learn. For that reason I thought it would be too harsh to pursue charges against you for his death, but with your involvement in the town square, it's not like you can avoid all punishment."
"...then what about Stain?"
"The only eyewitnesses outside this room are Native, Endeavor, and his son. We hope we can use that to our advantage, and keep his death a secret. Something that would be for the better anyways."
"Yeah, I thought as much."
"However as I said before, you can't escape all punishment. Thankfully, at the very least, it's not legal in nature woof."
"Huh?"
Gran Torino stepped up to answer.
"I got word from All Might, UA staff had to convene over what to do with you, again apparently. One more incident like this, and you'll never be allowed to learn at a hero institution again. But, as long as you watch yourself, hopefully we can move on from this nightmare. It will be you two to carry the burden inside of what happened here."
'As if killing one lunatic is gonna make me lose sleep'
"I'm grateful I've been given another chance." he said rather bored.
"Then don't waste it! You have an amazing gift, you got to start being responsible with it."
"As for the 'official' story, Hero killer stain was brought down through the combined effort of Manual, Gran Torino, and you two, working side by side. That way we can avoid having to punish anyone too harshly woof."
"I see."
"In the future, you two better work hard and become great heroes. Don't let this mess hold you back."
In class, he had hoped to put it all behind him, but that wasn't going to exactly happen.
"Man, he outshined us all again!"
"Battling the hero killer, and Nomu!"
"Is there no end to his growth?"
Unbeknownst to him at the time, the final moments with Stain were all recorded, not just his capture and 'arrest' as he once believed. That included close up footage of him rushing head first to combat him alone when the heroes were frozen in fear. He had already made moves in the media for his display at the festival, and here he was once again being lauded by the public as the next great hero.
Bakugo seethed in his perfect hair. While Sung got some real experience fighting villains, he was stuck with best jeanist learning about shit he never cared for.
Even Iida was bombarded with some fanfare, and after what happened to his brother, many felt like it was a nice end to the story. Though seeing the hero killer's own popularity explode online with more alternate communities, people could understand why their class president seemed off.
'It's time we talked, about me, and one for all'
After taking first place in the rescue training events they had for class, All Might took the young Jin-woo aside and said they had to talk. He recalled the talk he had after the attack on USJ. The hero muttered a phrase, All for one, then refused to speak further on the subject. Maybe it was time to finally learn more about what that means.
"Take a seat, young man. I heard about what happened. I'm sorry I wasn't there, I can't imagine what you're going through, and I know you were just trying to save young Iida."
"All Might I'm fine. Something like that doesn't bother me as bad as you think."
'Not sure if that's exactly a good thing' the deflated skeleton thought.
"Well, I said I wanted to talk to you about One for all. It's time you learn more about its history, and the reason for its existence. Maybe the more you learn about its purpose, the closer we can get to unlocking its power for you."
"I'm all ears."
"It starts with All for one. A quirk that allows you to steal other quirks, and give quirks to others."
All Might went into a long story about the advent of quirks, how society reacted, and how a single man rose to prominence through his sheer might alone. How that man dominated Japan his entire life, and his mistake in inadvertently creating One for all.
"You see, one for all was created for the sole purpose of defeating all for one. You know what that means don't you? One day you too will most likely have to fight…that…great evil."
'Is this kid getting excited?'
The young Korean fought hard to keep his smirk off his face, but how could he sit tight after hearing a story like that? There's a man that dangerous, alive!? And he has to have some fatal showdown with such a figure? For a mere moment, the idea of having a quirk stealing demon of a man as a shadow entered his mind. He wasn't partial to the idea of having humans as shadows, but someone that evil was fair game.
"So, when do I get to face this all for one?"
"Heh, well I guess there's worse responses. But you should take this with a bit more caution. The reason why is because if there's even a chance that he could attain your quirk, that could be the end of the world as we know it. If someone like him was truly immortal, and could resurrect the dead, there'd be no day where light shines."
"You want to fight him too, don't you?"
"...It's strange really. I used to think by the time I had this talk with my successor, that I'd be passing on the torch, setting things up for me to no longer be needed. And as it turns out, my successor can't actually use one for all, and I'm up to five hours a day."
"I haven't seen you cough up blood as much as before either." Sung noted with a smile.
'Did he make a joke? He can make jokes?'
(Spoilers)
Deep in the heart of japan, within the top floor of one of the tallest towers, lived a man who's heart was as black as a void. Forever watching, forever plotting, waiting for the day he would wait no more.
"So, according to my intel, the hero killer is dead. I admit, I may have underestimated Shigaraki's new object of obsession. However the end result is the same, those who lurk in the shadows, who hate heroes, they'll come flocking to Tomura by droves."
"But can he do it? Sometimes I fear that this league of villains project is a shot in the dark."
"You never put all your eggs in one basket doctor. The league of villains is but a side project while my long term goal remains the same."
"And what about the Korean, master? By my estimates, he can very well be a threat equal to All Might if we don't deal with it soon."
"If the Aoyama's information is to be believed, he too, seems to possess multiple quirks. Instantaneous teleportation, telekinesis, injury nullification, resistance to paralysis and mind control, increased physical strength and speed, object manifestation, and most importantly, complete control over an entire army of immortal, undead warriors numbering in the thousands."
Even Dr. Ujiko was unnerved by the megalomaniacs thirsty smile as he finished.
"One for all, New Order, and now 'Lich'. With these three quirks, the world could be mine. Until then, we have our queen and our king still on the board. How is he, by the way?"
"Shigaraki?"
"I've never known you to play jokes, doctor. I'm of course referring to Project Messiah."
"Ah yes forgive me. Why I'd say he's even stronger than you now, master."
The man with only a mouth, stretched his smile to inhuman proportions once more.
"Then everything is going exactly as I've foreseen. Shigaraki, and our 'messiah', with those two, this temporary peace All Might has constructed, will soon come to a crashing end."
