At exactly 9am there was a knock on the door. Lena didn't need x-ray vision to know it was Kara. She dropped her purse and opened the door.
"Lena," Kara greeted with a smile. She held a tray with two coffee's in one hand and the bag of food in the other. Her suitcase was just outside the door. "Are you ready to go?"
Lena looked around the room. Her suitcase was in her room and her purse was on the counter with everything she needed. "Yes. I just need to grab my suitcase from my room." There was a gust of wind and Lena's suitcase was sitting in front of her. "Thanks."
Kara pressed the tray of drinks and bag of food into her hands. "Take this and I will carry the suitcases."
Lena sat the bag on the counter so she could grab her purse. She took her keys out and grabbed the bag. She followed Kara down to the garage. She unlocked the car and climbed into the driver seat while Kara packed the suitcases.
"Do you have everything?" Lena asked when Kara got into the passenger seat.
"I do," Kara confirmed taking the food from Lena. "Let's go!"
Lena started the car and pulled out of the garage. As they sped through National City Kara dug through the bag of food. She got Lena's favorite, jalapeno and cheese bagel with extra cream cheese, and one of each bagel for herself. Kara handed over the bagel to Lena.
"Thanks Kara." She bit the bagel and sighed. It had been a while since she had a bagel from Beez's Bagels in Metropolis. She almost forgot how much she loved them. "So, what do you want to do first, when we get there?"
"There's so much to do," Kara exclaimed. "I don't know where to begin." Kara pulled out her phone to look up the numerous activities. "Ohh trapeze school, we should try that."
Lena glanced at Kara. "You can fly Kara. Why would do you want to go trapezing?"
"It would be fun to see the way humans experience things," Kara said with a shrug. "Plus, I can't get hurt so it makes it less scary." She clicked through the other activities. "There's lots of games and a rollercoaster, Ferris Wheel, dancing and food. We should do the aquarium today and maybe dancing tonight."
Lena snorted. Of course, food would be a priority. "If that's what you want, then that's what we will do." In all honesty Lena didn't care what they did, as long as they were together.
"Yes," Kara exclaimed happily. "That seafood restaurant is right there too. Oh, this is so exciting."
"I'm glad you're excited darling," Lena said. She reached over and squeezed Kara's hand. "You need to relax before you break your phone… again."
Kara blushed. She tucked her phone away and crossed her arms over her chest. "I can't believe Alex told you that," she pouted.
"There's a lot that Alex told me," Lena said. Kara continued to pout for another minute before deciding eating another bagel was more important.
The trip to Santa Monica didn't take long. Although traffic caused the drive to be twice as long as it should have been. Neither one of them minded the extra time. Kara convinced Lena to play car games throughout their drive. She had been horrified to learn that Lena had never played the license plate game, or any other car game before. It was yet another reason Kara disliked the Luthor's.
Kara stared openmouthed as Lena pulled into the parking lot of their hotel. She wasn't sure what she expected. Lena was a billionaire after all. "Wow," Kara breathed. "This is beautiful."
"Come on," Lena said turning the car off. "I don't know about you but I need to stretch my legs."
Kara jumped out of the car a little too quickly for a human. She ran around to the driver's side and opened the door for Lena. "You know the ocean was one of the first things I saw when I came to Earth. My pod landed on a deserted beach. That's where Kal found me."
"I'm glad you're here with me," Lena said honestly.
Kara hugged Lena. "Me too Lena."
Kara reached into the car and grabbed hers and Lena's bag. "Kara you don't have to do that," Lena protested, trying to grab her bag.
Kara moved away from Lena. "What's the point of having super powers if I don't use them?"
Lena rolled her eyes. She grabbed her purse and followed Kara to the hotel. "Reservations for Luthor," Lena told the receptionist.
The receptionist's eyes widened at the sight of Lena Luthor in the hotel. Kara adjusted her glasses. "Y-yes Ms. Luthor." She tapped the keys and pulled up Lena's reservation. "It seems the room you requested wasn't available. We have the same room with a king size bed instead of the two queens. Would that work for you?"
Lena glanced at Kara. "Kara?"
Kara shrugged. "That sounds good to me."
"We'll take it," Lena told the receptionist. It wasn't that bad. They had shared a bed more than once.
The receptionist handed over two room keys. "Enjoy your stay here."
Lena and Kara made their way up to their penthouse suite. Kara gasped when the door was opened. "This is bigger than my apartment," Kara exclaimed. She dropped their bags and ran to the window. "Wow, this view is incredible." She opened the door to the balcony.
Lena dropped her purse on the couch and made her way to Kara's side. She touched Kara's arm. Kara grinned and hugged Lena. "I'm glad you're enjoying this," Lena said. She reluctantly pulled away from Kara. "Do you want to unpack first or walk around the pier?"
Kara looked back and forth between the bags and the outside. Her stomach growled and that made the decision for her. "Let's eat!"
Lena laughed. "Alright. I'm going to go put my swimsuit on so we can go to the beach after."
Lena grabbed her suitcase and rolled it to their shared bedroom. Lena was looking forward to this trip as much as Kara was. She hadn't been to the beach in quite some time. The thought of lying on the beach, working on her tan was certainly appealing. Even more appealing with Kara there beside her.
She quickly changed and applied sunscreen. She grabbed her sandals from her suitcase and put them on. When she returned to the living room, she found Kara had also changed. She was wearing shorts that made her legs seem even longer and a see-through white top. The blue bikini top was visible through the shirt. Lena's eyes roamed Kara's body. Kara would be the death of her, she had no doubt.
"I have towels and chairs in the car," Lena told Kara. "Do you need anything else?"
"Food," Kara said patting her stomach.
Lena laughed again. "Alright. I get the hint. Time to feed the Kryptonian. You want to go to that seafood place, right? The one based on that movie."
"Yes," Kara exclaimed. She quickly put on her sunglasses. "Let's go!"
Kara grabbed Lena's hand and practically dragged her to the elevator. "Slow down Kara," Lena said. "Not all of us have super speed."
Kara stopped and turned to look at Lena. "I will carry you if you don't hurry up," she said seriously.
Lena was certain Kara was not joking. Lena quickly followed Kara out of the hotel. They walked down the road to the restaurant. Both agreed eating was more important.
The inside of the restaurant was unlike anything Kara had ever seen. The decorations reminded Kara of a fishing boat which made sense considering the movie. This was the kind of place that a girl like Lena would never been seen in. Yet here Lena was.
"Table for two," Lena told the host.
The host seemed to be thinking the same thing as Kara. "Yes of course," he said. He stared at Lena, fully aware of who she was. "Right this way." The host led the two to a table outside that overlooked the beach. Lena watched Kara's face light up. She did love being out in the sun. "If you two are in need of anything simply flip this sign over and someone will come by."
"Thank you," Lena said with a small smile. She was too focused on Kara to notice him staring at her chest.
The host hurried away leaving them alone. The two silently flipped through the menu. "It all looks so good," Kara complained.
"You're on vacation Kara. Order it all if that's what you want," Lena told her.
Kara's eyes lit up at the invitation to order as much as she wanted. She settled on the sampler for an appetizer which featured shrimp, hush puppies, chicken strips and chips and dip. For lunch she chose steak and shrimp along with coconut shrimp and a strawberry mango chiller to go with it all. Lena was a lot simpler. She had a martini with the stuffed shrimp.
The waiters face was comical when Kara ordered so much food. Lena glared at him and he didn't say a word. He simply left in order to get their drinks.
"I like you like this," Kara said once their drinks arrived.
"Like what?" Lena asked confused. This conversation was vaguely familiar to her.
"You're happy," Kara noted. "You're so caught up in the Luthor name that you don't allow yourself to have fun. I noticed it at your penthouse. It feels like you're finally happy."
"Did you ever think maybe it's you that makes me so happy and carefree?" Lena asked. Kara stared at her with her mouth hanging open. She didn't even notice the waiter coming by with their drinks. "You're my best friend Kara," Lena continued. Now wasn't the time for her confession. That would come later when Lena had more time to prepare. This entire trip was about wooing Kara. She wasn't about to screw that up. "Being around you makes me happy."
Kara beamed. "You make me happy too."
Although Kara didn't mean it in the same way it still made Lena feel good inside. The waiter returned with Kara's appetizer. To Lena's surprise, Kara offered her food. "Kara Danvers, sharing food. I have to tell Alex about this," Lena teased.
Kara rolled her eyes. "It's not potstickers. Besides, I do share with you."
It was true. Kara didn't share food often but when she did it was with her and Alex. "Alright, I surrender," Lena said raising her hands in the air.
Kara grinned. "I should have gotten that on tape." Lena grabbed a hush puppy. "Is there anything you don't like?"
"Salmon," Lena replied. "It's the only thing so far."
Kara nodded in understanding. She hated fish. It was too healthy. It was just a bad as kale.
Lena's phone buzzed. "Is it work?" Kara asked sadly.
Lena opened the text message from Sam. Alex asked me on a date.
"No, not work related," Lena answered. "It seemed your sister asked out Sam."
"What?" Kara exclaimed. The food on her fork was momentarily forgotten. She grabbed Lena's offered phone and read the message. "She didn't tell me that." Her own phone buzzed with a text from Alex. "She did ask out Sam. Well she says she blurted it out."
"Sam's freaking out," Lena laughed.
"Alex says Sam said yes," Kara read. She frowned. "I didn't even know Alex liked her."
"I don't think Alex knew she liked her," Lena commented, still laughing at her friends. "I knew Sam had a crush on Alex, though she never admitted it."
Lena was truly happy for Alex and Sam. They were a good match and Alex seemed to care about Ruby. For Sam that was the most important thing. While she was truly happy for her friends it bothered her that they got together before her and Kara.
She sat her phone aside. As much as she loved Sam and Alex, she loved Kara more. Right now, what mattered the most was Kara.
"Lena, are you okay?" Kara questioned.
"I'm fine, why?"
"You've been sitting there with your fork hovering in front of your mouth for three minutes," Kara told her. "Are you sure you're okay? Do you want to go back to the hotel, or home?'
"No," Lena said a little too loudly. A few of the people closer to their table turned to look at them. "No. I'm fine. I was just thinking." She quickly finished the half-eaten hush puppy.
"Care to share?" Kara questioned.
Lena shook her head. "No, it's not important."
Lena could tell Kara wanted to ask more questioned but she kept her mouth shut. The waiter came back with their food. "I love shrimp," Kara moaned. She shoved the shrimp in her mouth and sighed happily. "Did you ever have a pet?" Kara questioned.
"No, Lillian didn't believe in pets," Lena answered. "You?"
"I befriended a stray cat not long after I came to Earth," Kara replied. "I named her Streaky. I taught myself to control my strength so I wouldn't hurt her. The first time I petted her, she purred. It was the first time since I landed that I truly felt human."
Lena reached for Kara's hand. "I'm glad you had Streaky."
"Me too," Kara said squeezing her hand. "Let's eat."
After a long and delicious lunch Lena paid and they were making their way back to the hotel. They grabbed the chairs and towels from the back of Lena's car and made their way to beach. Kara was so excited that she wasn't paying attention to the chairs banging on her legs as she practically ran to the beach.
"Kara darling, please don't break my chairs," Lena called after her. One of the chairs was already starting to get dented.
Kara stopped running. "Sorry," she said with a grin.
It took five tries before Kara was satisfied with their spot. Kara quickly set up the chairs, towels and umbrella for Lena as the younger woman didn't want to burn in the sun.
"This is nice," Kara said, pulling her shirt and shorts off. She settled into the chair, oblivious to the fact that Lena was trying hard not to stare at her.
Lena quickly stripped off her own shorts and shirt. She grabbed the sunscreen from her bag. She quickly lathered up her body but was unable to reach her body. She sighed and silently cursed all deities, both human and alien.
"Kara, can you help me?" Lena asked.
Kara jumped up and grabbed the lotion from Lena. Lena moved her hair out of the way so Kara could rub the lotion on her body. Kara pushed the straps of Lena's bikini aside so she could get Lena's back. Lena silently begged the Earth to swallow her up. When Kara finished, she readjusted the top and handed the lotion back.
The two settled into their chairs and enjoyed the sound of the waves. After twenty minutes or so Kara was starting to get antsy.
"Come in the water with me," Kara begged.
"Kara," Lena protested as Kara half-heartedly tried to pull Lena from her chair.
"You cannot come to the beach and never go into the water. Don't make me carry you out there," Kara threatened. "Please. I'll protect you."
Lena allowed Kara to drag her to the water. Lena loved the beach but wasn't a huge fan of the water. It was cold and she always had a fear of drowning. With Kara, Lena wasn't as afraid. Kara would never let her drown. Even if they somehow got caught in the tide Kara could, and would, easily get them out.
Lena stood at the edge of the water. Close enough to get her feet wet but far enough to keep the rest of her dry. "Come on Lena," Kara called. More than half of her body was submerged in water. It was nice because it meant Lena didn't have to see her abs and toned thighs.
"It's cold Kara," Lena told her.
Kara moved to her side far too quickly. "I'll keep you warm," Kara promised. It was meant to be an innocent comment. Lena knew that. But all she could picture was the different ways Kara could keep her warm. She shook away thoughts and took Kara's offered hand.
Kryptonians were naturally warmer than humans. Lena had even done a test and found they ran just under 100 degrees. Kara kept an arm around Lena the entire time they were in the water. Not only did it keep Lena warm, but it also kept her above water.
Lena leaned against Kara. Her body was so warm. "Are you still cold?" Kara asked concerned.
"No, I'm comfortable," Lena said enjoying Kara's warmth.
"What do you say we go a little further out and see if we can see a dolphin or something?" Kara suggested.
Normally Lena would protest and call her companion stupid, or perhaps suicidal. But with Kara she was perfectly safe and the thought of seeing a dolphin was appealing. "Okay," Lena agreed. "But if I get bit by a shark…"
Kara rolled her eyes and shifted their position so Kara was carrying her bridal style. "Like I would let a shark get that close to you."
Kara looked around to see if anyone was paying attention to them but the many people were more focused on their own families. Kara tightened her grip on Lena and used her superspeed to push them further out to sea.
Once they were out far enough Kara used her x-ray vision to try and find something interesting. "Find anything?" Lena asked, shivering slightly.
"No," Kara pouted. "There's a shark a few miles that way." Kara pointed further out to sea. "But nothing else." She used her speed to move them closer to shore.
"We can always try again," Lena offered. Thanks to Kara she now wanted to see a dolphin, or something.
They made their way back to their spot. Lena was shivering. Kara scooted her chair closer to Lena and put her hand in Lena's lap. Kara used her free hand to drape her towel across Lena's laps. "Sorry, I didn't think that through."
"It's fine Kara. It was fun," Lena assured her. She scooted so she could lean against Kara. Kara wrapped her arm around Lena.
"Do you want to go dancing tonight?" Lena asked.
"Um, I'm not the best person to go dancing with," Kara said. "I tend to break feet."
Lena laughed. "It's all about the lead Kara. Besides I'm okay with you breaking my foot."
Kara rolled her eyes. "You are terrible. But if you really want to go then let's do it. But if anything breaks…"
"I will pay for it," Lena promised. "What time is it?"
"Just after two," Kara responded checking her phone. She ran her finger down Lena's thigh that was starting to turn pink from the sun. "You should put some more sunscreen on or you will burn." Lena grabbed the sunscreen. Kara took it from her hands. "Turn."
Lena turned to the side and moved her hair. Kara quickly applied the sunscreen. Lena shivered at the touch. "Are you still cold?" Kara asked.
"No, I'm fine," Lena told her. She hoped Kara would let it go.
"All done," Kara announced. She wiped the excess sunscreen on her own leg. "Should we head back or do you want to stay a little longer?"
"We can stay a little longer. I know I'll need to shower before we go out tonight," Lena said.
"We could give it another hour," Kara suggested. "That should give us plenty of time to shower and eat before we go dancing."
Another hour sitting with Kara's hand in her lap was almost torture for Lena. She spent half the time debating on whether or not her plan was worth it. Yes, she did want Kara and planned on winning her over. But right now, she didn't care about the perfect moment. Right now, she wanted Kara and it was taking all her self-control to not tell her.
Once again Kara carried most of their things back to Lena's car. She got a few strange looks but otherwise people ignored them. By the time they got back to the room they were both tired and Kara was hungry.
Lena showered first while Kara ordered room service to hold her over until dinner. Lena took her time in the shower. It was less about ridding her body of the excessive amount of sand and more about taking a couple, or thirty, minutes to herself.
She washed her hair twice, frustrated that there was still sand coming out. She cleaned her body and stood under the stream of hot water.
"Lena," Kara called softly. She cracked the bathroom door open. "You've been in here a while. Are you okay?"
Lena poked her head of the curtain. "I'm fine Kara. Just lots of sand to clean up." Kara didn't look sure. "Promise Kara. I'll be out in a minute."
As Lena shut the water off, she could hear Kara closing the door. Lena wiped the condensation from the mirror. She quickly towel dried her hair before wrapped the towel around her body.
Lena stared at her reflection. She was happier now than she had been in her entire life. It was still a strange feeling to her. Growing up with Lillian, she wasn't used to the love and affection she was shown by her friends.
She stared for another minute before drying herself off and getting dressed. She brushed out her hair and quickly brushed her teeth. She put her stuff away so Kara could shower.
"Bathroom is open," Lena told her.
Kara studied Lena, as if she was trying to find something wrong. She didn't find anything. "I'll be quick," Kara promised.
"Take your time," Lena said. "I still have hair and make up to do."
While Kara showered, Lena blow dried her hair. She just started her make up when the water shut off. She didn't put much on. She wanted more of a natural look tonight. She finished the final touches on her make up as Kara walked out of the bathroom.
Lena's jaw dropped. She looked stunning.
