This chapter was a pain in the ass to get out. I knew where I wanted to go with it, but the words would not flow.

LPOV

The moment we received word that we needed to evacuate to the Olympic Peninsula, our coven took off. We left everything behind. We didn't take anything that would slow us down. The three of us had heard the horror stories of Cronos throughout our long years. Learning that he was not only real but seeking to destroy all those who may pose a threat was jarring.

We took off under the cover of night hoping to use the darkness as a camouflage. We managed to run a few hundred miles when were attacked out of nowhere. They came upon us so suddenly. There was no warning. The sounds from that fight still haunt me.

"Maggie, Siobhan, we need to move faster. Come one! Pick your feet up!" I had yelled out to them. Something didn't feel right to me, and I wanted to get out of this open field as soon as possible. The air was thick with a malevolent edge to it.

"We're trying," Maggie cried out somewhere from my left.

Suddenly, my mate's ear-piecing scream echoed through the air. Inhumanly deep growls surrounded us, and I saw that we were surrounded by these hideously grotesque beings. Two of them had my mate pinned beneath them and were actually eating her. I watched in abject fear as they bit off large chunks of her torso. A few more of the creatures pushed their way forward and they began to fight over which one would get to finish their meal. I saw one of those things take a large bite out of my beloved's throat, leaving a gaping hole that was oozing copious amounts of venom.

"Liam," my Siobhan gurgled in pain, "Leave. Get out of here. It's too late for me."

I was jolted out of my staring to find Maggie yanking hard on my arm to get me to move. We both fought off these demons with everything we had. I managed to put my first through the chest of one while crushing the skull of another. Maggie was bitten pretty badly in the arm but she managed to fight off the vicious creature.

We ran leaving my love behind. Her sacrifice bought us a chance to make a break for it. These creatures were not as fast as we were, so we were eventually able to make a complete get-a-way.

We have been on the run now for two days, only stopping long enough to feed on the local wildlife. We both detested animal blood greatly, but we had already faced so much carnage that neither of us felt like we could take a human life. The attack on us and our losing Siobhan has greatly affected us. Her screams will forever torment me.

We finally made it to Canada where we ran into the Canadian coven. The moment they heard us running they came looking for us. Maggie and I stopped and waited for them to catch up.

The coven consisted of two mated pairs. Just seeing the mates brought tears that I will never be able to shed to my eyes. We told them about the attack and each of them was horrified.

"We're so sorry, Liam, you both have been through so much. We must keep moving though. The word is that we will be protected by the Olympic coven," Lisa told us.

"How can a coven protect us? You have no idea what we just went through?" Maggie cried out in despair.

"There's an immortal sorceress there," Andrew, Lisa's mate, whispered. For the first time since finding out about the looming threat, I felt a bit of hope.

"Alright, everyone, let's move. We need to break up into groups of two in case of attack. Everyone head on out to the Cullen home in Forks, Washington," Eric, another Canadian coven member, advised.

We all wished each other good luck and ran off in different directions. Maggie and I stayed together and ran faster than we ever had before. The fear of being attacked again by those demons was in the back of our minds. We literally felt like the hounds of hell were at our heels.

We finally crossed the Canadian border into Washington state. Twenty minutes later and we were jumping over the Calawah River. We heard many voices as we slowed down our approach. We came to an enormous clearing where there were several different supernatural races around.

"Liam, Maggie, it's so good to see you. Where's Siobhan?" Carlisle asked as he walked over to shake my hand.

'Carlisle, we were attacked. Siobhan… it was horrendous," I stuttered trying not to break down in front of everyone here.

Carlisle inhaled sharply, understanding what I was having difficulty saying. He grabbed my arm while Esme, his mate, wrapped her arms around Maggie and led us into the house. They guided us into a large open room where many others were sitting around and talking.

"Bella," Carlisle called out. "I think you need to hear this."

A breathtakingly beautiful woman stepped into the room. She was far more beautiful than any vampire I have ever seen. She was poised and the air around her seemed to crackle from her power.

"Hello, I'm Isabella. Can you tell me what happened?" she asked softly.

"We were attacked by some horrific creatures," Maggie cried while holding on to her injured arm. No matter how much she fed, the injury wouldn't heal.

"My mate, Siobhan, they got her. It was terrifying," I whispered.

"They made these deep, guttural growls and high-pitched screeches that were so loud they hurt our ears," Maggie added quietly. "They ate her."

It suddenly became silent as the eyes of everyone around us were looking at us in shock. Maggie collapsed onto the sofa, crying and hugging herself. Esme sat down beside her and took her in her arms to comfort her.

"I'm sorry for your pain. I know this is difficult. If you would like, I can have Edward read your thoughts about the attack so that you won't have to relive the event," Isabella asked me. I nodded my head.

It only took a moment for Edward to get all the information he needed when I collapsed right next to Maggie. Isabella walked over to her and crouched down to speak to her.

"May I see your injury?" she asked softly.

Maggie nodded and tried to pull her jacket off. Her left arm was useless because of the injury, so I reached over to help her remove it. Once we were able to slowly pull it off, there were many gasps as the wound was revealed.

The wound took up her entire upper arm and was pouring venom. It had a sickly green tinge to it and was giving off a putrid aroma of rotting flesh. There were obvious teeth marks where she had been bitten. Furthermore, the green part appeared to be spreading while the wound was growing.

Bella reached out with her right hand and placed it gently on the wound. A bright white light surrounded the area for a few moments and then subsided. Once she removed her hand, the wound was completely healed with no scarring at all.

After I finished healing Maggie, I asked Carlisle to look after her and Liam. I grabbed a tight hold of Edward's hand and flashed us outside for some privacy. We reappeared on the mountain ledge that I know use for my meditations.

"Are you alright?" I asked as I felt his distress.

"I don't know," he said raking his fingers through his hair, a sure sign of nerves.

"Can you tell me what you saw?" I asked him gently.

"It was like a scene from one of Emmett's zombie movies," he began slowly. "They were running and Siobhan was behind Liam and Maggie by just a few feet," he said while collapsing on the ground and putting his head in his hands. "They didn't even know she was attacked until she screamed," he shuddered remembering the sound he had read from Liam's thoughts. "The creatures came out of nowhere and surrounded them. Siobhan was brought down by two of those vile monsters. They started eating her," he sobbed.

I wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly. I was appalled by what I just heard. I was going to have to put the shield up as soon as we were done here. Then I would have to inform Isis of this development.

"A massive shield needs to be erected over the area. It will block Cronos and his army from being able to sense us all. I also need to speak to Isis and let her know."

He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me closer to him. "I know this makes me sound weak, but I am legitimately frightened," he admitted to me refusing to look me in the eyes.

I kissed his cheek and with a sigh, I said, "No, that doesn't make you seem weak. If anything, it will help to motivate you to fight with everything you have. Edward, I love you. We may face a battle that will not be easily won, but I do believe we can win."

We held onto one another for a few minutes longer just enjoying the comfort of each other's presence. I pulled back slowly giving him a gentle kiss on the lips. "I have to go erect the shield. I'm not sure how long it will take. I'll head home as soon as possible."

He nodded his head in understanding. "Be safe, my love," he said before he darted off.

I took a deep breath and stood up. I closed my eyes and pictured within my mind's eye all of the land I needed to shield: Forks, the Cullen property, La Push, and the Olympic forest. I raised my arms above my head and began to chant in the ancient language I have now become familiar with.

I opened my eyes to see a translucent shield rising far above the area. Each side of the shield rose high until each one met at a point well above the ground. I continued to chant as I added multiple protections to the shield that would help to make it impenetrable while allowing only those of the supernatural races that were seeking refuge inside it. The shield would also act as a cloak and hide all

Once I was satisfied that the shield would be able to withstand a direct attack, I closed my eyes again and sank into my mindscape. A brief moment later, I heard Isis call out to me. I opened my eyes to see her standing before me.

"Hello, Bella, what has happened?" she inquired.

"A coven from Ireland was attacked while on the run. The attack was sudden and seemed to come out of nowhere. A vampire by the name of Siobhan, the coven leader, was attacked directly. Isis, those creatures ate her," I said while looking directly at her in order to gauge her reaction.

I watched as the shock of what I just told her flitted across her features. "Oh my," she said quietly. "This is troubling. Demons do not eat vampires or even other beings. It would seem that Cronos must have experimented on them to give them his despicable need to eat his enemies."

"Edward described the scene as being similar to a Zombie movie," I informed her.

"Alright, I will inform the others. Have you erected the shield?" she asked me.

"Yes, I just completed it and added some extra protections," I said feeling emotionally drained.

"Good! I think we need to send word that anyone still on the run needs to stay on the lookout for these demons. When you get back, inform everyone. The threat level has been elevated."

Isis bid me a farewell and exited my mind-scape. A moment later, I followed suit. Once I opened my eyes, I flashed over to the Cullen house. I was greeted with looks of fear and terror. Word had gotten around about what happened, and it set everyone on edge.

"May I have everyone's attention?" I called out. Everyone came over to me and some decided to just stand on the Cullen's back porch and deck. "As I am sure most of you have heard, the Irish coven was fatally attacked by Cronos's demons. We have learned that Siobhan was killed in the attack." Murmuring began as everyone tried to speculate what the attack could mean. "It is important to point out the Cronos has done some experimentation of the demons. Please be advised that the demons feed on other beings." Pandemonium broke out as everyone's fear was amplified by the heinous news. I held my hands up to try to get them to listen to what else I had to say. Suddenly, I felt Jasper's gift spread feelings of calm which helped everyone to quiet down.

"There's another piece of information you need to hear. I have erected a shield over Forks, all of the Cullen property, La Push, and the Olympic forest. You are safe as long as you remain under the shield. If you have any questions, feel free to ask." I dismissed everyone and went in search of my mate and some food.

I found Edward in the kitchen finishing up a salad he had made for me. He turned as I walked over to him. He opened his arms wide and I walked right into them.

"Are you alright?" he asked me while placing a loving kiss on my head.

"I'm about as alright as I can be under the circumstances. Thank you for making me food." I turned and grabbed my bowl of salad and sat down at the kitchen table.

"You're welcome. You haven't been eating enough," he noted.

"It's okay. We don't need to eat as often as humans do," I said as I took a huge bite. The salad had all of my favorite veggies in it.

"What time are the wolves due to arrive?" he asked.

"Any time now, I believe," I said after taking a big gulp of my iced tea.

"Do you anticipate any issues?"

"No, the new alpha can handle his job. Plus, we are all on the same side. There really is no time for petty squabbles between races." I finished my salad and walked over to the sink to wash my bowl and fork. "Speaking of petty, Edward, how far along is Tanya into reassembling herself?"

"She should be all together in two days, give or take."

"Any issues with her sisters?"

"Not at all. They understand."

"Good! Hopefully, she learned her lesson. Let's go talk with Jasper and Alice and see what, if anything, they have discovered." I hoped it was nothing serious. Today has already been difficult, and the wolves haven't even arrived yet.
