Here we are again! In this chapter, Jonathan tells his friend about the events of season 1 and his feelings.
Timmy thought that it was the concussion Jonathan got, after getting knocked out and suffering from amnesia for hours. His friend just told him about a spaceship and his father being Superman.
"What?" Jonathan was offended.
"Sorry, man! But that sounds ridiculous!" Timmy said. They just stopped by a red traffic-light and Timmy used the change to open the glove compartment in front of Jonathan to pull out a magazine. An old issue of the Time-magazine with Superman on the cover. "Your father does not even closely look like Superman!"
Jonathan's face turned red. He began to tremble upset and his hands turned into fists. Angrily Jonathan grabbed the magazine and a black pen he spotted in the open glove compartment. Then he used the pen to draw a pair of glasses on Superman's face. Timmy didn't mention this. He was already driving again.
"I mean, as a devoted Superman-fan, I can assure you that I would have mentioned it if Superman lived right next to me all those yea…" Timmy was not able to stop as Jonathan lift the magazine again, to show him 'his father' on the cover. "… aear… holy… shit… That's really your dad…"
"Timmy, the road!" Jonathan said when he mentioned that his shocked friend began to drift off the road and was about to end in a field right next to them.
"Oh, my god how I could never see this!" Timmy wailed.
"Timmy, look on the road!" Jonathan yelled shocked and grabbed the steering wheel by himself to prevent a crash.
That's when Timmy realized that he almost crashed them. In shock he fulfilled a hard break and stopped the car. In the middle of the road.
"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my gooooood…" Timmy yelled. His heart was racing. His face became pale. "How could I never see it… Oh my god… Mr. Kent… Clark Kent is Superman! I lived next to door to Superman for years… How could I miss that fact… You… You are the son of Superman! Oh my gosh… Big Hero 6 The Series was right! The people see what they want to see!"
"Yeah, I guess that's why I never mentioned it!" Jonathan murmured.
"But how… It… Oh… Now I understand why you were so upset! This is you?" Timmy said and opened the Instagram-app again to see the famous picture of Superman and 'his supposed son'.
"Yes!" Jonathan said ashamed. "But before you yell that this is so cool, or awesome or anything… it isn't! I always thought that it will be Jordan who gets spotted by someone. But not me!"
"Your brother? But…" suddenly Timmy realized what everyone meant with Jordan being the more loved and preferred brother. "Oh… I ehm… let me guess…"
"YEAH, IT'S RIGHT!" Jonathan yelled. "Jordan got the powers. And I am the human one!"
"The human one?" Timmy asked. How can Jon be the human one, when his father is Kryptonian. "But… you have the same father… or…"
"Yes, Jordan will be one day like dad. And I am just the drug-taking loser who fucked up a whole town."
"But… aren't you his son, too? How can you have no powers?" Timmy asked.
"Oh, gosh this was a mistake." Jonathan wailed and was just about to open the door to run away when suddenly a truck start to honk behind them.
Timmy saw that they were blocking the road and a big truck was forced to break because of them. With trembling hands, Timmy drove on and they were on their way again. But he still didn't get it out of his head…
"Jon… ehm… Is that the issue?"
"Yes… aww… you know… I know it sounds incredible. The father being Superman and all that stuff but in truth… I… You know what they told us? They thought that I have powers, because of my athletic skills. Suddenly I felt like the biggest cheater!"
"Let me guess… it was right?"
"NO!" Jonathan said offended. "I mean… aww… This is a long story!"
"It's still two hours to my house!" Timmy offered. He was suddenly very interested in the whole story.
"Okay… just please focus on the road! I am not indestructible!" Jonathan said. "I… ehm… okay the full story… from my point of view…"
Timmy turned off the radio and closed his window, too. Guessing that Jonathan would be calmer without German pop-songs being played from the disk and without the risk that someone could hear them.
"I was mad! Mad that they lied to us all those years. Mad that I was cheating. That it would mean I would always have to hold back. Living a lie… You should have seen how devastated Jordan was. He was still in therapy back that day. Our dad missed so many appointments and other stuff. He ran away and locked himself in his room. And me, too! I spend hours with brooding and asking myself what in my life was real and what was a fake! And there was a lot of fake in my and Jordan's life. You know… After a while I mentioned my father standing behind the house. I watched him and my mom talking a bit. And from one second to the other he speeded away like a rocket and was gone."
Jonathan moaned shortly and rubbed his tired eyes. Suddenly he realized that his hands were smelling like seawater.
"I mean… sure Superman is cool. But… I always guessed Superman is not a guy who lives with wife and kids a normal life." Jonathan continued. "After our dad was gone, I wanted to comfort Jordan. But he was gone. The girl you met today… Sarah, she ehm… invited him to a bonfire the day before. And suddenly I thought: Jordan alone on a party, after getting the shock of his life was no good idea. And I should be right! When I arrived, he had kissed Sarah. But her back-then boyfriend saw it and they attacked him. I jumped in to help him. But four vs. one is never a good idea. And I was laying on the ground and got kicked, and around 30 others just stood there and filmed everything amused and… aww… Jordan suddenly used heat-vision to blow up the bonfire!"
"WOW! Heat-vision!" Timmy tried to imagine it.
"Yeah… heat-vision! He had no clue that he was capable of that. Well, if he hadn't blown up the bonfire, I could had been seriously hurt. The next day, our father told us that we are going to move to the farm permanently."
"Because… Jordan got powers?"
"Of course, because Jordan got powers!" Jon moaned. "Our father said it is to spend more time with us and for the whole family to grow together. But honestly, I think it was just to prevent the farm to get sold to the bank and to train Jordan. In Metropolis, I was already in the football-team, had friends, a perspective… In Smallville I was forced to start from the scratch. I never told someone, but I was furious. Furious because nobody asked me what I think about moving to this Podunk! Or how I feel. Sure, I was fine with being powerless. Because it meant that everything, I reached in my life was legit. But the first time I got really pissed… aww…"
A cold shiver ran down Jonathan's back.
"…the first time I got really pissed was on my first day at the new school. My father took Jordan to his fortress to introduce him to our Kryptonian grandfather and to check his body to keep sure to train him properly. And I got told to go to school, lie to everyone that Jordan is sick and deal with the fallout of his kissing and the scene he made at the bonfire alone."
"Fortress? The Reddit-legend is right?"
"Yeah!" Jon moaned.
"Your grandfather?"
"Yeah… well… his… ehm… some Kryptonian thing. His memories and his personality saved on a crystal. A supercomputer with a holographic image of him. You know the movie 'Transcendence'? I imagined my so called 'grandfather' to be something like that. Dead, but also like someone you can talk with. Well… So Jordan got a lecture about his past and I got a lecture in being an outsider. I tried to get into the team but from the first day, everyone let me feel that I was not welcomed to this town."
"Ehm… Why… isn't he your grandfather, too? Why your father didn't take you to meet him, too?" Timmy avoids a loud moan that it was extremely shabby and that his father should be ashamed because for him it sounds like Mr. Kent left him out.
"I asked myself that question a lot of times? I think it was because I am too human. When they returned that evening Jordan was very mad. According to the 'tests' they made, Jordan would never be like dad and if he gets powers, they would be very very weak compared to our father. I was mad about the team and Jordan was mad about our holo-gramps. I think our dad didn't take me to meet him because Jor-El would see a failure in me. And Jordan… because of the scene he made, he was bullied. But just in case, Jordan got an ELT to call our dad, but he didn't need it because our father uses his super hearing on us to spy us out!"
"He spied you out? ELT?"
"ELT… That's… ehm… My mom has a device that sends out a high-frequency sound only my father can hear with his super hearing to alert him in an emergency He can hear every sound in the world. At the same time! Jordan got one! I didn't!"
"Sounds painful!"
"It was for Jordan! But what I meant… is he… he spied us out! I mean… what is our life? Big Brother? 1984? It was like not being allowed to talk without that he knows. Both, my father, and Jordan… they can hear us!"
"Here? Right now?"
"I don't know how it works! Jordan said he needs to focus on a sound. And I hope they don't focus on us right now! But also… when the bullying continued, Jordan thought it is a good idea to use his new powers and join the football team."
"Isn't that… cheating?"
"Of course, it's cheating! Dad wanted to prohibit it. But the bullying stopped, Jordan made friends… and I said to our father it would be good for Jordan and his self-confidence. Gosh… It was like bringing someone who is permanently on X-K into the team. After that our father became the team's new assistant-coach, I began to believe that he said the truth when he said he wants to be there more for us. Spending more time with us. But instead… I soon had to realize that I was wrong. Jordan of course became the star of team. And I had to run tracks because the coach believed I 'kept his talent a secret' from him."
"Oh, I met your so-called coach, today! That guy is an asshole!" Timmy said. He already showed Jon the video he made of Coach Gaines today. The video in which he confesses that he knew about Timmy Ryan taking X-K the whole time.
"The longer I was here in Smallville the more I felt so totally out of place. Our father rather spent time with training Jordan then with me. I think he only became assistant coach to babysit Jordan. And when my girlfriend dumped me, and I later figured out that she cheated on me with a former friend of me my parents were more concerned about Jordan's powers and how quick they develop."
"Ouwch!"
"Yeah… but my father always said to give Smallville a chance. And that we will talk again about it if I still not feel good here. We never did! I so desperately tried to be part of the team that I didn't mention that everything was just about pretending and playing a role. It was the same with my old team. We had a game against our old school in Metropolis! Mostly guys who used to bully Jordan, never got punished and always act like dicks. Jordan wanted to get revenge. We mostly only won because the other team was focused on bullying Jordan during the game than the game itself. The victory… wasn't a real one. And after the game, when we were out in the city, they showed up again. Of course, they tried to start a fight again by provoking Jordan. Jordan engaged and tried to punch the guy with his enhanced strength."
"He tried to kill him?" Timmy was shocked.
"He would be dead if I hadn't jumped in and stopped my brother. Well, I got a broken wrist, and the football-season was over. For both of us. Because Jordan got his super hearing the next day and because one of the guys who beat us up at the bonfire got superpowers when Jordan blew up the X-K that was directly under the bonfire."
"Oh… Your brother is able to give other people superpowers?"
"No, that was an accident! But don't ask me how it happened! There was a lot of X-K under us. Jordan light it up and it turned him into a metahuman. The only real friend I made in this town. Well, before he turned into a meta-human, got locked up in the DoD by my grandfather, escaped, beaten up Jordan, kidnapped Sarah and got locked up again to become a member of the Supermen of America!"
"The Supermen of America? I heard about them in the press!"
"Yeah… me, too! Our father often visited the boy Jordan turned into a Metahuman to 'look after him'. But he never thought about telling us how he is, or if he is okay. I mean… he became our friend shortly before he turned mad. We have a right to know if he is fine. I wouldn't be surprised if my father took him to our grandfather, because he has powers now. Since that party where he got his powers, I never saw him again. He returned later to get revenge on Jordan. But we don't know what ever happened to him. I had to hear in TV… from the TV-news that the guy Jordan gave powers, is part of a vigilante-superhero-soldier-team wears my father's family crest."
"Crest?"
"Yeah! You know… The symbol my father wears… It's not an S! It's a family-crest!"
"I always thought it is a stylistic S!"
"But worse than my broken wrist, was when I figured out that Jordan used his newfound super hearing to spy me out!"
"NO!"
"Yeah!"
"NO! Jordan?" Timmy couldn't imagine Jordan as someone who spies out others.
"Yeah… I was in school, once again lying to his girlfriend about why he is not in school, and he thought I was flirting with her and trying to steal her to get revenge for the broken wrist and for being the powerless one. I came home, he confronted me with it, and I tell you… never ever in my life I was so mad on him. And I was already mad on him for my broken wrist. I was mad on him because I officially lost everything and gave up everything so we can move into this town so he can train his powers. And I was mad because my ex-girlfriend cheated on me. I hit the wall next to him to let it hurt in his ears and called him a terrible person."
"But I am sure he didn't did it on purpose."
"Yeah, it was not on purpose. And I couldn't be mad on him for long. His super hearing saved our father's life that evening. Because our father's now best friend, was his enemy back then who came from another Earth, where my father turned evil and helped Morgan Edge to conquer the world."
"Morgan Edge?"
"Yeah, or Uncle Tal!"
"Uncle?"
"Yeah… Morgan Edge's real name is Tal-Rho. He is the half-brother of my father and therefor my uncle!"
"Fuck!" Timmy looked on him with big eyes.
"Yeah! And I am not happy about this. Otherwise… I think he doesn't sees me as his nephew eighter: His subjects tried to kill me several times and his father called me a failure for the legacy of the Kryptonian-kind. I saw a video-data of my father's evil doppelganger killing my mom with his heat-vision and my mom yelled the hell out of me when I tried to be useful, two minutes later. And to make everything more difficult my grandfather told me to be afraid of my father and my brother because of their powers."
"Are you?"
"I told him I am not!" Jonathan shrugged. "But I also think I lied. I mean… What can I do? What can I do to defend myself against a powered Kryptonian? If it is about my parents, it's always cry for help and hide behind my brother or my father!"
"Seriously! That is… ehm…" Timmy didn't dare to say that it was awful. Jon didn't want pity!
"I did everything to support my brother! I helped him to gain more self-confidence! I helped him to lose the fear of his powers. Every time Jordan got a new power, our father didn't gratulate him. He apologized!"
"Apologized?" Timmy was confused.
"Yes! He apologized! That's why they always tell me how lucky I am that I got spared!"
"Spared? You mean left out?" Timmy said. Jonathan just moaned.
"I don't know! I honestly don't know! When Morgan Edge kidnapped Jordan and tried to conquer the world, everything became more difficult. But what should I say. Everything was so complicated. Jordan and the world were more important. And I have fullest understanding for it. Really. I never told anyone… but… when Morgan Edge put his own father's soul into Jordan's body, he said to me… that I am weak! That I am… a shame for the Kryptonian race. So weak… so useless…"
"And you never told your father?"
"No, for what? I am the human one! I never had anything to do with Krypton and I don't know anything about it! Why should I be bothered by the words of an alien tyrant who raised his son to conquer another planet? There were other things to feel weak and useless. We had to deal with the arrival of my interdimensional half-sister, first!"
"Your what?" Timmy realized that Jon's life was even weirder…
