Moritori was doing another report "The Prowl menace! Governments around the world launch investigations into the murderer known as Prowl, aka Miles Tails Prower, aka the two tailed war criminal who for years, has been terrorising the decent citizens of Station Square. Well, now this city and the world sees him for what he truly is". Footage was shown of Tails standing on the street "Murderer! Forelock forever" someone through green paint at him". Another news report "New details from last week's devastating attack in Knothole have emerged. For more, we go now to Joint Intelligence headquarters". Tails and Bunnie watched worryingly on their TV "Authorities, just a short while ago, confirmed that the deadly drones used in the Knothole attack were designed by Hedgehog Industries". Tails tried to ignore the protests outside their building but then there was banging on the door "Federal agents! Open up!". Bunnie stood up " Federal Agents? You stay here". She opened the door and the lead shrew agent held up a badge "Department of Damage Control. We have a warrant for the arrest of Miles Prower". Bunnie stood her ground "You heard of the fourth amendment" "Get in here, guys. Let's go". They pushed past her and searched the house.
Tails was now in an interrogation room handcuffed to the table. He could easily brake out but that didn't help his stress "I didn't kill Forelock. The drones did, okay?". The agent put a file on the table "The drones that are yours" "No. Abraham Tower was there the entire time. Ask him. He can explain everything" "Abe Tower has been off planet for the last year". Tails narrowed his eyes "What?" "Tails!". He looked out the window and saw Barby, Ray and Bunnie being brought in "What? Uh, they have nothing to do with this, sir" "Don't say anything without a lawyer".
Barby was sitting calmly in the interrogation room "I want a lawyer" "Ms Barbara, why do you want a lawyer if-" "If I have nothing to hide". The agent smirked "Exactly. Unless-" "I'm actually guilty of something? I'm very aware of your tactics and my rights". She casually waved at the window as he continued "Just answer my questions. I've seen your file. You're a smart young woman with a bright future ahead of her. Why would you risk it all by getting involved with a vigilante like Miles Prower?".
Now Ray was waiting when the agent entered "So sorry to keep you waiting. Can we get Ray a snack? He's been waiting. I'm so sorry about that". Ray gulped "I'm not supposed to say anything to you" "Yeah, not a thing. I just have one question. When Barby told you Miles was the Prowl" "Whoa, whoa". The agent pleasantly smirked "What's up?" "I knew way before Barby did. I was the Prowl's guy in the chair" "I know about those. Dude, half my guys are guys in the chair". Ray nodded "Exactly. You would know. I literally helped him find Dark Oak. I helped him hack his briefcase once and kind of helped him get to space". The agent listened intently "So in the Prowl's illegal vigilantism, you were his main accomplice". Ray froze "Uh, I would like to have my words stricken from the record".
It was Bunnie's turn "With all due respect, and I mean that very insincerely, unless you have some real specific charges to throw at us, legally, you can't hold us here" "You should definitely lawyer up" "Excuse me". The agent shook his head disapprovingly "Child endangerment's a nasty rap. A boy was entrusted to you, and as his legal guardian, essentially his mother, you not only allowed him to endanger himself, you encouraged it. Who does that?". This obviously caught Bunnie of guard "I wanna see Miles right now".
Trucks were leaving a large Hedgehog Industries warehouse "Hedgehog Industries was caught in the web of the Prowl/Forelock controversy today, when federal agents opened an investigation into missing Hedgehog technology". Antione watched the screen show a picture of him with a quote "No comment at this time" "At least they used a good picture". Tails sat at a table holding his head "What is happening". A blind echidna wearing a visor and green uniform sat down and hung up his phone "That's great. Well, I have some good news, Tails. Mr Sonic did clear you under the Spagonia Accords so you won't be charged with vigilantism. As for Forelock I don't believe any of the charges against you are gonna stick". Tails was surprised "Seriously?". Bunnie and Antione both sighed in relief "Oh, I knew it" "Nice" "Oh, Gaia, Mr Watcher, thank you. That's amazing". Bunnie smiled "Thank you, Moon" "You're welcome". He then looked to Antione "However, Mr Antione, the feds are investigating that missing technology. I understand your loyalty to Mr Sonic and his legacy, but if you were involved, I advise you get a lawyer". Antione looked around the table "Wait, I am on investigation. I thought he was. You said there's no charge. I could say under advisement of counsel, I refuse to answer the question respectfully because the answer can incriminate me". Bunnie stopped him "Calm down. Let's hear what he has to say. Moon?" "You're gonna need a really good lawyer". Moon looked back to Tails "As for you, Tails, you may have dodged your legal troubles, but things will get much worse. There is still the court of public opinion". Tails suddenly sensed something, and a brick crashed through the window. He reached out his hand to catch it but to his surprise Moon caught it first. Everyone jumped and Tails slowly took the brick "How did you just do that?" "I'm a very good lawyer". Tails checked the brick which had a newspaper with "We believe Forelock" drawn on it. Bunnie sighed "We'll need a safer place to live".
In a high fancy apartment three high tech locks released and the door opened. Bunnie and Tails entered carrying luggage, but an alarm went off "Ah! How do we-?". Bunnie pressed in a code which stopped the alarm. A screen showed surveillance cameras around the apartment. The two of them then looked around the place "It looks nice. And this is safe". They saw Dummy the robot at the table waving at then. Antione came in with more bags "Welcome to the spiritual oasis. You like Donkey Kong Jr?".
At night Tails was cleaning the paint out of his shoes as a news report was going on in the background "Nickey, you're on the line" "Hi, I'm not saying I don't want to honour the Chaotix, but, you know, not doing it this way. Putting Shadow's Chaos Emerald on the Freedom Fighter Statue? Nah, that will look ridiculous. Leave the Freedom Fighter Statue alone. I doubt Shadow would want it up there". Tails takes a sheet from something to clean his hands but then notices the box underneath. Tails checks it and sees Hedgehog Industries logo "Oh, Ant" he recognised it as the fabricator he made his equipment in.
Tails was lying on the couch talking to Barby on his phone "Did you send in your applications yet?" "I literally just finished my MU one. Can you imagine if we both got in? And Ray". Barby shrugged "Yeah, but we'd have to get scholarships, se we could actually go" "You got the scores and the grades" "You think I'm being to pragmatic". He shook his head "No, no, no. Well. Kind of. It's okay. It's one of my favourite things about you" "Really? What are your favourite things?" "Your relentless optimism". Barby sarcastically nodded "I'm a glass half-full kind of gal" "I really like how you're a people person" "I love people. I love them so much… Wait, what's that noise". Tails chuckled "Oh, that's, uh, it's Ant. Look". He moved his phone to show her Antione sleeping on a chair with a snoring machine "Gave his room to Bunnie, so he's sleeping down here". Barby lied on her side and sighed "I have a weird question. Does any part of you feel relieved about this?". Tails considers the question "Ever since I got that emerald, I've only had one week where my life has felt normal. Or kind of normal, I guess. And… that was when you found out. Because then everyone that was in my life that I wanted to know knew. And it was perfect. But now everybody knows, and I am one of the most famous people in the entire world. And I'm still broke". They both laugh "I'm excited to see you tomorrow" "Yeah, me too" "Wrap it up". Tails jumped in fright and saw that Antione was awake "Wrap it up. You both like each other. We get it. Hang up. There's no new ground being broken here. I need my eight hours" "Have you been listening this whole time?". Barby waved "Hi, Antione" "Not by choice. Hello Barby".
