Khan was now at the top of the statue desperately trying to contain the spell, but it broke through. Purple cracks started to form in the sky. The rest of the scaffolding started to collapse; Khan's cape suddenly went around Ray. A cloud formed under him, and Barby. They were brought down to safety. Once lowered it flew away "Thank you, Mister Cape, sir" Ray said. Nearby Eclipse safely lowered Infinite and the previously Gold Scourge down. Khan fired multiple spells at the cracks trying to close them but more just kept coming. Tails was still holding onto the board Scourge was flying on. He tore off a jagged part of the board and stabbed it into Scourge's robotic left leg. They crashed down onto a piece of debris. Tails got up with new wounds on his face. He breathed heavily and watched Scourge limp towards him "It seems you don't have the will to send me home to die" "No. I just wanna kill you myself" Tails growled. Scourge grinned "Good. You're learning". Tails fired multiple shots at Scourge forcing him to go on the defensive. Scourge picked him up with the Force agian but this time Tails revealed another crystal in his hand. He crushed it in his hand releasing a shockwave which blocked the Force and dropped him. Once Tails got close, he dodged Scourge's attacks and punched him directly in the face. Scourge quickly retaliated and managed to graze Tails' arm. He grunts but then kicks Scourge's other leg dropping him to his knees. Tails slammed his head into the metal floor, forced him to kneel back up and then repeatedly punched him in the face. Ray, Barby, Jun and Miles all watched as Tails armed his cannon at full power and aimed it at Scourge's head. He screamed as he pulled the trigger. Suddenly though Jun jumped in front of him and pushed Tails' arm up just before he fired saving Scourge.
Tails tried to move back to kill Scourge, but Jun didn't budge. Tails gritted his teeth trying to move. The two looked into each other's eyes. Miles gave an understanding look. Tails slowly calmed down and lowered his arm disabling the cannon. Suddenly Scourge activated his lightsaber and slashed Jun across the back. He gasped and fell back. Scourge turned back to Tails "She was there because of you. She died because of you. How does that make you feel, Mile Prower?". Miles watched from above and threw Tails the stone. Once he caught it he saw a universe where Scourge let go of his anger on Espio and instead aided him in protecting Silver the Hedgehog leading to him finally getting his revenge on Mephiles avenging his brother and his clan. Tails slapped his hand on Scourge's head both their eyes widened as the information was transferred. Scourge finally fell back. Tails picked up Scourge's lightsaber and threw it into the water. Scourge glared up at him with an unreadable expression. Miles landed and ran over to the injured Jun "Are you okay?" "Yeah, I'm good. I've been through worse" "Oh, good". Tails kneeled down, Miles smirked "Nice catch" "Nice throw". They hear a noise and looked up seeing more cracks opening. Jun narrowed his eyes "Is that happening or am I dying?" "No, that's happening. That's very real" "Are there people in the sky?". Tails saw what he meant, shapes of different Mobians were coming out of the cracks "I gotta go". He took off and joined Khan at the top of the statue "What's happening?". Khan's hands shook from the strain "They're starting to come through and I can't stop them" "There's gotta be something we could do. Can't you just cast the spell again? The original way before it got screwed up". Khan shook his head "We're too late for that. They're here. Here because of you".
Tails' mind raced trying to figure something out "What if… What if everyone forgot who I was?" "What?" "They're coming here because of me, right? Because I'm Miles Prower. So cast a new spell. But this time make everyone forget who Miles Tails Prower is. Make everyone forget". He pulled out a strand of his own fur and held it out to Khan "My parents are gone. My Aunt and Uncle. I'm the origin now, right?". Khan paused processing this "You have to understand what this means. Everyone who knows and loves you, we… We'd have no memory of you. It would be as though you never existed". Tails didn't even hesitate "I know. Do it". Khan hid his tears and took the fur "You better go and say your goodbyes. You don't have long". Tails nodded "Thank you, sir" "Call me Khan". Tails smiled "Thank you, Khan" "Yeah, that still feels weird" "I'll see you around". Tails leaped back down as Khan began the spell. Miles helped Jun to his feet as Tails landed "Hey, uh, I think this is it. I think you're about to go home". Tails hid his grief "Look, I, uh… Thank you. I just wanna—I want you to I wanna tell you that…". Miles smiled "Tails" "You know. It's what we do" Jun said. Tails nodded "Yeah, it's what we do". He turned to leave "Right, I gotta find Ray and Barby. I…". He turned back around and tightly hugged them both which they returned "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you". Tails backed away "I guess I'll see you. Bye" he took off. Jun and Miles watched smiling when the latter noticed how bad the burns on his back were and whispered, "You're in so much pain, huh?" "I am" "Yeah".
Tails clumsily landed in front of Barby and Ray. They both hugged him "Oh, you're okay. So proud of you" "Are you guys, okay?" "Yeah, we're okay". Tails noticed a cut on Barby's forehead "Oh, Gaia, you're bleeding" he cupped her face. She held his hands "I'm fine. I promise. We should go right". Tails backed away and gulped "You're… gonna forget who I am" "What?" "What're you talking about?". Tails smiled reassuringly "It's okay. I'm gonna come find you, and I'll explain everything. I'll make you both remember me. And it'll be like none of this ever happened". Barby started shaking her head "No, what if that doesn't work? What if we can't remember you? I don't wanna do that. I- I don't wanna do that" "I know" "There's not something we can do? We can't come up with a plan? There's always something we can do". Tails lowered his head "There's nothing we can do. But it'll be okay" "You promise?" Ray asked. Tails nodded holding back tears "Yeah, I promise". The two did their handshake and then hugged. Tails heard Ray crying "I'll come find you, okay?" "I know you will". Ray let him go. Barby sobbed "You better. If you don't, I'll just figure it out. I've done it before, I can do it again" "I promise I'll fix this" "I really hate magic". Tails smiled "Me too". Barby cupped his face "I love you" "I love-" "Just wait. Wait and tell me when you see me again". Tails nodded "Sure". The two passionately kissed. All the cracks above them closed. Khan completed the spell, Infinite, Eclipse, Ixis and both Scourges disappeared in a golden light. Jun and Miles turned to each other and shook hands as they disappeared as well. Tails slowly backed away from his two friends. He looked up at Khan who nodded down to him. Tails looked back to Barby who tearily mouthed "I love you". Tails smiled before flying away.
The sun rose on Station Square as Moritori made an announcement "It's been two weeks since the fiasco on the Freedom Fighter Statue and the Prowl's cultists continue to contend that the vile vigilante is a hero. Well, if he were a hero, he'd unmask himself and tell us who he really is? Because only a coward conceals his identity. Only a coward hides his true intentions. Tails was walking down a snowy street wearing a scarf. He was talking to himself "Hi. My name is Miles Prower. Some call me Tails. You don't know me, but I…". He made it to the coffee shop "Okay, come on". He opened the door and saw Barby working at the register. He awkwardly stood at the door when Barby looked in his direction. She waved; Tails heart raced when "Hey". Tails realised, Ray just walked in and past him. Ray went to the back of the shop, "One sec" Barby yelled after him before returning to Tails "Can I help you?". Tails tried to think "Hi, um… My name is Miles Prower. Some call me Tails and I… would like a coffee please". Barby awkwardly smiled "Okay, no problem, Tails". She goes to make a coffee. Tails tries to think of what to say. Barby goes over to where Ray was sitting "Doughnut for my fellow Engineer" "What?" "MU's mascots are Engineers". Ray looked down at his later "Oh, right. I should know that. Look at you with the school spirit" "Tell anybody and I will deny it" "Okay". Tails smiled watching the two of them when Barby returned with his coffee "Here's your coffee" "Right, thank you. Um, are you excited for MU?". Barby realised he must have heard her "Oh, yeah. Yeah, I am excited, which is weird cause I don't really get excited about things. I kind of expect disappointment" "Cause then you'll never actually be disappointed. Right?". Barby was surprised "Yeah. Right. I don't know, I thought... It kind of feels different this time for some reason". Tails took out some rings to pay for the coffee "Right, what I was…". As Barby leaned forward to take the money Tails noticed the cut on her forehead now had a plaster "You okay?" he frowned and gestured to the plaster. She shrugged "It doesn't really hurt anymore" she put the rings in the register "Is there anything else?". Tails smiled and held back tears "No. Thank you" "No problem". Tails glanced at Ray "I'll see you around" he quickly left.
Tails was now standing stone faced at the grave of his Aunt Bunnie. He placed a flower down. As he stood there Antione appeared next to him. Tails glanced at him and quickly looked away. Antione noticed "How did you know her?" "She helped me. More than I ever knew. What about you". Antione smiled "Through the Prowl". The two stood in silence when Antione sighed "I lost a friend a while back. Felt like this. Hurts because zey are gone and zen it hurts all over again because you remember what zey stood for, and you wonder if zat is all gone as well". Tails shook his head "No, it's not gone. Everyone that she helped; they'll keep it going". Antione smiled "You really think so?" "I know it. Take care of yourself, okay?" "Yeah. Nice to meet you". Tails patted his back and walked away.
Tails opened an old door into an apartment "Rent is due on the first of the month. Don't be late" a voice said after him. Tails looked inside, the apartment was mostly empty and a little run down". Tails started taking his boxes in. He opened one revealing study books. He then took out a small dark black and red Chao toy and placed it on the cabinet.
At night Tails looked outside at the snow falling. His phone connected to police precincts and he could hear different reports. On a sowing machine was a newly created black suit and next to it was the coffee cup he bought from Barby. Tails in his new disguise leaped out of the window and flew over the city streets. He landed on a roof and skated across the snow before jumping off and diving downwards. He caught the attention of onlookers as he started flying again. He rose higher and higher patrolling the streets of Station Square.
